This 31 day devotional on Proverbs walks you through a Proverb a day, letting you sit and soak in the wisdom explored there. i loved everything about this book. The pages were beautiful, well laid out and insightful. It was a pleasure to take a month and be immersed it Proverbs, i didn't rush through it and it was so good! And the illustrations are so delightfully simple and calm.

This is a beautiful, well-written book of devotions based on the book of Proverbs. I have an ebook for this review, but I would love to have the print copy as it is a beautiful full color book. I loved the illustrations and the application of scripture from Proverbs, as well as scripture from other books in the Bible. There are questions for further thought that make this an excellent devotional study.I want this in a print edition, because I would love to journal my way through the book. I think this would make an excellent and thoughtful gift.

The Proverbs Devotional Journey is a refreshing and delightful read. This devotional is filled with beautiful artwork and reflection questions as it walks you through the book of Proverbs.
This would be a great introduction to the Bible for someone who is seeking God and may feel intimidated by picking up a whole Bible. It’s great daily read for a busy mom. This book would be a perfect Mother’s Day or graduation gift.

This is a great devotional for a beginner in Proverbs. I love that the devotional takes exactly a month, too!
There is the main message, which explains the Bible chapter and points out important words, phrases, and themes throughout the chapter. Then asks either how to apply the lesson to your life, or how it affects you. I loved the "guest writer" part. There is a story in each chapter from someone who has seen the lesson play out in real life. This is a good high-level explanation of Proverbs without getting too bogged down in the details and maintains the important lessons and ideas. Beautiful pages and writing!

This devotional is a hopeful, encouraging, and practically useful daily walk through Proverbs. It includes a beautifully illustrated chapter of Proverbs, an illustration of life application to the passage, a bit of chapter context and explanation for better comprehension, and a beautifully-worded applicable prayer. This book would be a wonderful gift for someone, or even a personal treat to help a person read through the book of Proverbs, even if they had no prior experience with it. Also there are a couple simple questions that could be used for further pondering or discussion if read with a friend or accountability partner. This devotional is a simple way to learn and grow from a great wisdom book of the Bible.

The proverbs are full of wisdom and holiness, a d this book blends that together perfectly. I enjoyed using it.

This Devotional Journey Through Proverbs is filled with amazing biblical content and beautiful illustrations. I appreciate that the full Proverbs text is included first and then readers are given an almost mini narrative (with scripture throughout), thoughtful questions to ponder, and amazing biblical context (defining of words, intended audience, etc.). Personally, I also think the length of these devotionals is great! It balances being approachable, with continuing to provide deep and biblically grounded content. Reading through made me wish I owned a hard copy version! A Devotional Journey Through Proverbs is a beautiful devotional that I would definitely gift to friends and family. I recommend!

Another excellent devotional by Our Daily Bread. The proverbs may have been written such a very long time ago but they still apply today but they apply to our loves today.

This beautifully designed devotional takes the reader through the 31 chapters of Proverbs. Each reading starts a chapter of Proverbs, followed by a reflection written by different authors on a specific verse from that chapter, and then a few reflection questions. Rotating through the daily devotions are prayers, definitions of Hebrew words, and context and scope of Proverbs (information on Solomon, themes, etc). Sometimes there is space to write your responses to the reflection questions.

Overall, this was a good devotional. Some of the author reflections were stronger than others; some lacked a sufficient link to the verse they were focusing on. Each devotional was a good length—not too long, not too short. I loved the inclusion of the Hebrew words and their context. I found that enriching to my reading experience. I would have liked to see a prayer included with each chapter. I find that praying after a devotional reading helps to solidify what I just read and allows me to focus on what I learned from the Bible reading for that day and ask for anything that I am lacking in. I would have liked to see a more in depth analysis of Proverbs. The reader is reading the entire book of Proverbs, yet only 31 verses are highlighted in detail. (I will say that all of the author reflections are immersed in Biblical references, which was fantastic seeing connections between the OT and the NT, for example). I personally would have preferred a verse-by-verse commentary. But, that is not what this devotional is, and as I said, it is a lovely devotional. This devotional would be a sufficient introduction to Proverbs for a new Christian (with support), or a more in depth study (the Hebrew words especially) for a seasoned follower.

My final critique concerns the author’s explanation of Solomon’s personification of wisdom in the Proverbs 1 devotional. The author notes that Solomon is identifying wisdom as a woman and states that this is a metaphor. However, in paragraph two of the “Befriending Wisdom” section, the author writes as if wisdom is a real person. By capitalizing “Woman Wisdom”, a reader could be confused by the author’s intention and might think that this is a real person, as real as Solomon himself, and thus, the reader will miss that the author is weakly explaining the personification of wisdom. Additionally, the author states: “She [wisdom] asks for only one thing in return: that you accept her as she is, in all her breathtaking glory (8:32-36). Will you choose Wisdom?” (p. 11). This bit is theologically bewildering. I found myself wondering if the author actually meant God, or did the author mean that God is a woman, or does the author believe there really is Woman Wisdom? There is only one person you should be choosing when you read the Bible, and that is Jesus. Solomon makes it very clear in Proverbs 1 that wisdom is personified as a woman. Personifying ideas such as wisdom, justice, or liberty as a woman is a common throughout different cultures and times. To avoid confusion and theological issues, this section needs to be reworked by utilizing lower-case “w” for wisdom, and taking out the title “Woman Wisdom” the author uses throughout these two paragraphs.

Proverbs is one of those books of the Bible, along with Psalms, that people always seems to be quoting from or getting wisdom from but I never really came across something of a devotional about Proverbs. Well here is one book that has done it. It is a good little book of devotionals.

Daily Bread always provides good books for studying the word and especially during this time in our country. This Proverbs study has been a comfort for me. Easy to read and digest and understand and easy to switch back and forth from studying your bible and using this devotional. Daily Bread Ministries always can be depended upon to help you with study of the word.

Have you ever read the daily devotions in the little Our Daily Bread magazines? They are beautiful, little everyday blessings. But I sometimes want to go deeper in a topic. That is precisely what this devotional does. It takes you into the book of Proverbs, reading just one chapter each day, and exploring some of the nuances and treasures each chapter has to offer.

Every day, you begin your journey into Proverbs with the full NIV text of the chapter of the book you’ll be diving into, followed by a devotion reflecting that chapter of Proverbs from the wonderful writers of the Our Daily Bread devotionals. Then it goes even further, with information about everything from the structure of the writings to the identity of the author to the history around the writing of Proverbs and more. Also included in most chapters are insights into specific ideas or verses from that chapter, along with thoughtful prompts for journaling (or even just meditating on), and prayers to help guide your quiet time with the Lord.

But my favorite part (since I am a total word-nerd) is the short word studies included in many of the chapters. Hebrew is such a rich language, with words stacked in layers of meaning; it is fascinating to see how the context shapes the meaning of a word and how much more beautiful a simple word becomes when we know all it can and does mean in the Bible.

And every page is gorgeously illustrated in watercolors (just like what you see on the cover)! The words are inspiring; the illustrations are calming and peaceful. I highly recommend this devotional for anyone seeking to deepen their knowledge of Proverbs and their relationship with the Lord. 5 out of 5 stars!

A Devotional Journey through Proverbs is a beautiful and thought provoking reexamination of these wonderful scriptures. Each chapter of Proverbs is presented as a whole to be read, then a word or thought from that proverb is touched upon for further reflection & study within this context.. I would highly recommend this beautifully illustrated book for your own study or as a gift for someone else. There is so much to learn in the book of Proverbs and every time I read through it with a devotional, I learn something new. This Journey Through Proverbs was a beautiful and inspiration guide to my learning and growth. So grateful for this book!

I loved this devotional. Each section of the book looks at a a different chapter of proverbs going through the entire book of Proverbs. Each section is short and doesn’t take too long to read but full of information.

This was a beautiful devotional full of biblical wisdom. Proverbs is such a wonderful book and I've read several devotions based on it, but this one has quickly become a favorite. It also came to me during a rather difficult time in my life where I needed every ounce of godly wisdom I could get.
I have a massive amount of respect and gratitude for the author of this book and it will become one I read over and over again.

"A Devotional Journey through Proverbs" is a great 31-day devotional book from Our Daily Bread Ministries. This book really goes through this book of the Bible, chapter by chapter. I really also enjoyed not only the spiritual reflection, but the additional information about certain keywords, some historical references, and more information about the era in which it was written and other nuances. This book is simply stunning inside and out with just as many calming and gorgeous leaves inside the covers as out. As beautiful as it it is, I also found it to be a very thought provoking look at the book of Proverbs and I do feel like I learned a lot from reading this. I do a daily Bible study every morning but this Lent season I was looking for a little bit more and this book provided that for me. Our Daily Journey has the daily Proverb to read plus additional commentary that relates the message to our lives a little more clearly. It also provides some historical context including the actual origin of some of the words that are used in the Bible that I found fascinating. Some of the historical elements did feel a little repetitive by the time we reached the end of the book and I wish they had gone for more of a variety of historical facts since I'm sure they are a plethora of things they could have chosen. Some of the days also included prayers that I found extremely helpful since my prayers are more conversations with God and I enjoyed having something structured. Overall, this is a book that I would love to include in my library and it could even be displayed since it is so beautiful and would be something nice to flip through occasionally now that I have read it.

What an excellent devotional! The book of Proverbs has always been one of my favorites for all it's pearls of wisdom and this book definitely does it justice. Each day has a chapter of Proverbs followed by a short devotional, word descriptions including the Hebrew definition, questions to further your bible study to a deeper level, prayers and some historical explanations of the book of Proverbs. I look forward to rereading this book many times and enjoyed it so much that I already purchased a hard copy of it. Thank you to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
