A local couple has been murdered in their home and their baby is missing. A spot of blood at the crime scene is found related to another case. It is a match to past victim. Kylie is now determined to discover the truth about both cases.

This story had me enthralled from the start! Talk about intense. I fell for the characters, especially Hannah.

Hannah is a young teenager in trouble. She is doing drugs and she just witnessed a double murder. And now the killer is after her. Kylie is the local cop investigating these double murders. The blood droplet at the crime scene leads to Lily, a local nurse. What all three of these ladies have in common…you will have to read the story to find out. And trust me…you will be glad you did!

I am definitely going to pick up the first book in this series. Heck, I am adding all of this author’s book to my tbr list.

Need a fast paced thriller that just won’t quit…THIS IS IT!

I received this novel from the author for a honest review.

This one was a DNF for me. Not sure if it’s just me and my mood at the moment or the story. I will update my review if I pick this up in the future.

One of the strengths of Danielle Girard's writing is her ability to create an atmosphere of palpable tension and suspense. The sleepy town of Hagen is brought to life, becoming a character in itself, with its dark undercurrents and hidden secrets. The author deftly weaves together multiple narrative threads, skillfully building suspense with each revelation. The pacing is excellent, propelling the reader forward and keeping them engrossed from start to finish.

The characters in "Far Gone" are complex and well-developed, each with their own demons and motivations. Kylie Milliard is a tenacious and relatable protagonist, driven by her own haunted past. Lily Baker, too, is a compelling character, haunted by her previous trauma and thrust back into a nightmarish situation. Their shared determination to uncover the truth forms a strong emotional core for the story.

Girard excels at creating an intricate plot filled with twists and turns. Just when you think you have things figured out, the narrative takes a surprising detour, leaving you second-guessing your assumptions. The author's attention to detail is commendable, as she seamlessly connects past and present events, revealing connections that will leave readers gasping in astonishment.

"Far Gone" is a heart-pounding and emotionally charged thriller that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. Danielle Girard's writing is sharp and evocative, painting a vivid picture of a community grappling with dark secrets and the lengths people will go to protect them. The exploration of trauma and its far-reaching effects adds depth to the narrative, making it more than just a gripping crime thriller.

Overall, "Far Gone" is an engrossing and captivating read that will satisfy fans of the mystery and thriller genres. Girard's masterful storytelling and well-crafted characters make this book an unforgettable journey into the depths of darkness and the resilience of the human spirit. Prepare to be enthralled from the first page to the last.

Multiple storylines come together at the end in this action packed thriller. It is a series, and I've enjoyed both books. Ms Girard is a good writer.

This continues to be a fun series led by two intriguing female protagonists, though in terms of plot and action it’s a slight step down from White Out.

Though this is sort of a continuation of the story, it’s more of an intermingled but separate mystery, which kind of worked, but felt a little contrived in its connection to the greater plot.

The action sequences in White Out were excellent, and thus that’s what I’ve come to expect from Girard. Certainly this book was satisfactorily done in that regard, but again, a bit of a decline from the series’ first offering. I still don’t love the setting of the series, and it leaves the reader too dependent on plot, not my favorite way to read a mystery.

That said, the plot itself is a good one despite its flaws, and while Kylie continues to get the better storyline of the two leading women, but she and Lily remain interesting and likable, and the series is of good enough quality that I’ll be hoping it continues.

I loved White Out (Badlands Thriller #1) last year so was very excited when Far Gone ((Badlands Thriller #2) was announced. The book certainly lives up to the hype.

Hannah, a 14 year old baby sitter, is a witness to the cold blood murder of Ben and Nadine Garza. Hannah was high when she witnessed the crime. Afraid to face the police and her family, she drives off. The sleepy town of Hagen is again sprung into action. Detective Kylie Milliard is the detective on the case. Blood samples found at the scene show a familial match to Lily Baker. Lily Baker was one of Derek Hudson's captive over a decade ago. Since her release 4 years back she is gradually settling in her life. Now Kylie must tell Lily about something buried deep in Lily's memories. How much more can Lily take? What happened all those years ago and who is responsible?

There is never a dull moment in the book. I flew thru the book. Just when you think you know who did it, there is another twists. Although we have multiple storylines, the author did an awesome job bringing it all together. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I actually now have a print copy and will be leaving a review when I have read it. I am certain it will be just as good as everything else Ms. Girard has written. I really enjoyed White Out, so I am sure Far Gone will be just as good.

Far Gone provides a rollercoaster of emotions. The characters are well put together and relatable, the way Danielle Girard describes places and situations in such a remarkable way that you can see them in your head. Although there are a lot of details they do not delay the story or make the reader feel bored, they just make the story more powerful. There are a lot of twists and turns and unexpected happenings that just make you go on reading so you can grasp the whole and understand it! Really entertaining!
I downloaded a free copy of this book through NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Far Gone was a compelling crime thriller that explores the homicide of a young couple in their own hometown in their formerly safe suburban neighborhood, and the witness that could help the detectives to find the murdered.

I was a bit hesitant to read this book because it's the second in the Badlands Thriller series, and I was afraid I would have gaps of missing information about the main characters. However, Danielle Girard does a great job telling a story and reintroducing characters, so not reading the first book in the series does not affect starting with this one.

Fourteen-year-old Hannah has just arrived at her babysitting job. While she is saying hi to a sleeping baby, the home gets invaded by a violent intruder. The man, who Hannah cannot see while hiding behind the nursery's closet door, kills the baby's parents and leaves the home in a state of disarray before fleeing the scene of the crime. Hannah does not know what to do. Not only she has witnessed a traumatic crime, but the drugs she has taken before arriving at the home are taking effect. She is scared and believes the intruder will kill her too, so she decides to flee her small town after dropping off the baby at the closest hospital.

Kylie Millar is called at the scene of the crime, and while she's not a homicide detective, the evidence found in the home makes her want to take part in the investigation. When some of the blood found at the scene is linked to a former crime involving Lily Baker, a local nurse, things get more complicated. Kylie and Lily have to work together to find out who committed the crime and why now.

This story was engaging from the beginning, and I enjoyed following along as the detective in the case found the evidence to solve the crime. I should say that this book is filled with action from the first chapter, in which the crime takes place. The story is told from multiple POVs: Kylie, Lily, and Hannah, and the story takes place in a matter of days, so the story is fast-paced and the plot moves fast. I enjoy crime thrillers that are fast-paced, and this one was particularly engaging because every chapter reveals a new twist that keeps the story moving.

The three main characters are multidimensional, and I liked them all. Hannah, at her young age, is dealing with a serious drug dependency problem, which explains why she behaves so recklessly and paranoid. Lily is dealing with the consequences of her former trauma, and she's slowly working through it as she helps Kylie to solve the crime. The three stories intersect before the murders even happened, but this connection doesn't become clear until they find the murderer. And as they become closer to finding the truth, more people keeping secrets from them are revealed.

As the story comes to an end, the story gets even more interesting, and I found it easy to read but believable. It is clear that Girard understands law enforcement procedures. The way the detective solves the crime is truly a work of art.

Highly enjoyed the story.

Sometimes I fall into thriller slumps because it feels like the same type of story is rehashed over and over — this is not the case with Danielle Girard’s Badlands series! A police procedural thriller, Far Gone is the perfect blend of action and drama with plenty of twists to keep you turning the pages. This was an up-until-4-am read for me, I had to know how it ended! No spoilers, but it was 💯 worth it.

Far Gone is the second book in the series and could probably be read as a stand-alone, but I wanted to read White Out (book one) first. I’m glad I did because I felt there was a lot of character development from book one to two and I loved experiencing that progression.

A big thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.

The plot was quite far-fetched and drug out, no pun intended. The entire storyline seemed very unlikely and hard to believe, especially as a follow up to the first installment. That is not to say that I did not enjoy it and am very grateful for the chance to read and review it. Although, I do believe the series should end at this novel and not continue.

An action filled twisty read where a murder rocked the town
And the protagonist had to act fast.
The story was captivating enough for me to turn the pages fast.
Overall a good murder mystery wrapped as a police procedural.

So. Much. Action.

This books started with a scene that sent my heart straight into my throat, and it stayed lodged there the entire time. So much action, so much drama, so many twists--it was fantastic. And how many thrillers have you in tears at the end? Not only was my pulse racing the whole time, but the end of the book had me feeling feelings too.

Far Gone is the second book in the Badlands series. Detective Kylie Milliard and nurse Lily Baker have returned for another heart-stopping adventure. Although events in the first book are referred to often, this could still probably be read as a standalone, though I guarantee you will want to read the first book after this. And of course I really want to read the next book, but I don't want anything else bad to happen to Lily...

If you are a fan of action, thrillers, family drama or detective stories you are going to like this one. So well-written, so intense, it will keep you on the edge of your seat.
