Far Gone by Danielle Gerard is the second book in the Badland series. I managed to get a copy of the first book, before I started reading this book, so that I won't feel lost when I read about repeating characters. I had enjoyed the first book and the principal characters Detective Kylie Milliard and Lily Baker are interesting, compelling, complicated characters. I started the 2nd book thinking I am in for another good read.

But the 2nd book Far Gone is far more intriguing, compelling and very interesting than the first one. The author has humanized the Detective and also, made the reader involved greatly with Lily Baker and her life. In this book, she comes to terms with her experiences in her captivity and remembers far more things than she did earlier.

You come across some twists and turns atleast every few chapters and this book was far more intriguing than the first one. I particularly liked the thrill of the chase which happens throughout the book- I felt as if I am watching a thriller on my screen; author Danielle Gerard has managed to immerse me that much into her writing.

It's an absolutely brilliant thriller which stands out among the many thrillers I read these days. This book is deserving of 5 stars from my point of view and I am giving this honest review in exchange for an ARC from Netgalley and the publisher.

Well, Danielle Girard was done it again. Just when you think it couldn’t get any better than the first book in this series (White Out) Danielle outdoes herself with the follow up FAR GONE publishing 6/15 by Thomas & Mercer @amazonpublishing.

Let’s start with saying this is the second book in the Badlands Thriller series, and although it can be read as a stand alone, it reads so much better if you start with the first book. Now don’t feel pressured to HAVE to read the first one, because this book is downright phenomenal on its own.

This one immediately starts out with a wollop, and you’ll be absolutely engrossed from the start. Kylie Milliard is back and she’s a brilliant detective with some of the best critical thinking skills I’ve read in a thriller. The story is so fast paced and the characters are extremely well developed. Told from three different perspectives, the writing is easy to follow and I guarantee you will read this thriller in one sitting. Let’s not forget the chapters are short, and we all know how much as readers short chapters are always the best. With tons of twists and turns that you don’t even see coming and then a huge mindboggling mystery at the end, this is one I guarantee you won’t want to miss. Even those of you who aren’t thriller lovers will enjoy this read.

@DanielleGirardbooks is going to be a force to be reckoned with and if she keeps writing like this, I anticipate her soon becoming a household name.

Hannah witnesses a brutal crime as she is babysitting. From there, she escapes and the story takes so many fantastic twists and turns. With memorable characters and a well -paced storyline, a thriller not to be missed!

Very good thriller!! When I read the first book in the series, White Out, I thought it was patchy and hard to keep track of the story. But this one!! Wow! So much better!! I really enjoyed it! Great story with a lot going on, but it was very well thought out and excuted well. Definitely recommended!

*Thank you @netgalley and Danielle Girard for the egalley in exchange for an honest review.*

How is it that for some people there will never be enough money in the bank? In the end is was a good thing that Dr. Reade couldn’t get enough of it. I’m so happy for Lily, she deserved something good coming her way, even if it was a painful road.

This one was difficult for me to get into because I felt like the way the story is set from the detective POV made it feel like I was watching from 10 feet outside the story.

This was a good, fast-paced thriller that I really enjoyed! The story was full of twists and turns that kept me guessing. I’d never read anything by this author so was really pleasantly surprised at how much I loved the characters so I’m excited to read others and I’ll definitely go back and read White Out now! Thanks for the opportunity to introduce me to a new author.

A disturbing story about a traumatic past, about a young girl, a story which will prove to you how much the human psyche knows how to be upside down and dark. And although it contains a background story that is somehow related to the previous story in the series, I had no problem following this story even though I have not read the previous one.
‘ Far Gone’ by Danielle Girard is intelligent, dazzlingly dark, and powerful. The novel opens the story of young Hannah, a young girl who witnesses a brutal murder, which marks the beginning of a traumatic experience that envelops her whole adult life. A crime in the present that bears traces of the past ... the perfect incentive for detective Kylie… Which truths are hidden behind the evidence?
The book is full of enigma and puzzles, twists and turns in abundance, well-presented multi-dimensional characters, and a perfect mix of mystery and emotion. Author Danielle Girard manages to do something quite difficult - she mixes the past with the present and it turns out fresh, insightful, and scary. She is able to penetrate the reader's mind with her words so well that this book will leave you with a sense of uncertainty and make you wonder how well you know the people around you?
With amazing twists and perfect writing style, this book is definitely a perfect choice for any brave reader.

Far Gone by Danielle Girard is second in the Badlands series. I have not read the first book but found the author has done well in updating the reader with pertinent details of the previous one. The mystery starts shockingly with the brutal murders of a couple in their home in the town of Hagen in North Dakota. Each chapter is written from the point of view of three individuals. Kylie, a detective, finds herself tasked with investigating the double murders. Lily, a nurse, who’s violent past has marred her adult life, becomes embroiled in the murder investigation, through no fault of her own. Hannah, a fourteen-year-old girl is involved in the mystery as well, but in what way? The characters are multi-dimensional and well-drawn, and reading their story makes this mystery enticing and utterly difficult to put down. There are several mysteries within mysteries here and the plot is fast-moving and suspenseful. I look forward to reading other mysteries by Danielle Girard. Highly recommended. Thank you to Thomas & Mercer, NetGalley and the author for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a very solid second novel for this series! I was completely engrossed in the story-line. Such a fasinating and well written police procedural.

I really enjoyed the characters Kylie & Lily. They are both very different in how they process information but it really lended to being a fantastic combination they worked the case really well together. Kylie is a detective & Lily is a nurse so it was fasinating to have that twist of seeing the medical and police procedures blended in their friendship.

Fasinating small town domestic thriller. I was shocked that what would seem like such a small town but it still could have such complicated plot twists. I never saw them coming which is always a complete win for me. Very fast paced and I highly recommend it!

AWESOME police procedural thriller, which draws you in & never lets go. Well written with great characterization, filled with suspense & leaving you anticipating the ending with bated breath. First time reading this author but will back track to read #1 in this series. Enjoyed & RECOMMEND fully. Thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for this ARC in return for my honest review.

Thank you so much to @netgalley & @daniellegirardbooks for sending me an e-ARC of Far Gone. This is the second book in the Badlands Thriller series. The first was White Out & i loved it so much i bought every single book danielle has written (i have yet to read them, but i bought them all bc i have no self control). So i was super excited when i saw this available on netgalley.

I loved Kylie & Lily. they were both so different but i thought they worked really well together. Kylie is a detective & Lily is an ER nurse. They have a sordid past but they still worked really well together. The book started with a double homicide but was SO much more than that. There was a lot of ‘small town’ problem vibes I was getting. With small towns you obviously get inner-family problems. who doesn’t love a good domestic thriller??? There were so many plot twists that i didn’t see coming which i always love. I found this really high pace which i always need in an ebook!!

i totally recommend you grabbing a copy!!!!

When I started my ARC from NetGalley of Far Gone, I wasn't aware it was the second in a series. Considering I was enjoying the characters, the setting, and the plot, I set it aside to go back and read the first book in the Badlands Series, White Out. I am a total mood reader and after reading quite a few psychological thrillers lately, I was all-in following the detective to see what happened. While I don't think you'd need to read the first book, I'm glad I did. Far Gone involves a teenager secretly witnessing a double murder, followed by the police investigation and the girl's avoidance of the perpetrator. Thanks to Amazon Publishing (Thomas & Mercer) and NetGalley for the ARC. I recommend the series to crime fiction fans - both White Out and Far Gone are available now!

A chilling thriller, this book pulls you in and is hard to put down! After witnessing a gruesome crime, a young girl must navigate through the aftermath in order to survive. Told from multiple viewpoints, this story contains many twists but weaves together nicely.

This book kept me up past my bedtime several nights in a row. @daniellegirardbooks has a knack for the chapter-ending cliffhanger, keeping the story clipping along. The plot was well thought out, and it unfolded nicely and kept me hooked. As the second book in The Badlands series, it was nice to see the growth the characters had between the two novels. I love the strength of the two women that are central to this series. Both of these women are taking names and kicking ass. It’s also refreshing to see their relationships with men as supportive and not needy. I am very much looking forward to seeing what is in store for them in the future.

This book is #2 in a series but never read the first. (But I will go back to check it out. I need to read Lily's story. ) the author did a great job at filling in any holes that were created bc it was part of a series. She told us just as much as we needed to know to understand the character for this particular story.

That said, I do think that it might be the 2nd and last of the series. Maybe. Bc it did solve some issues that seemed to be unresolved from the 1st book.

Basically, a 14 yr old babysitter watches (while hidden) as the parent of the baby she is about to watch, get murdured. She takes the baby and runs.

For a little bit you think, why run? But if you are an adult reading the book, think back to how you may have felt as a young teen. Scared as hell. A very good possibility that you would run.

This book is told from 3 different sides. But not told in first person. It was told in third person. And not an omniscient narrative either. That is why I took off a whole point from the rating. I feel the author should have either made the narrator all knowing or why even bother with the separation in the chapters?

There is no one quite like Danielle Girard! She is a master at mystery / thrillers and Far Gone starts with a bang (literally) and doesn't relent til the very end. While this is book 2 in the series, you can definitely read as a standalone.

Highly recommend this book!

Far Gone is the second installment in the Badlands thriller & this book & series is very different to every book I've read - in a good way! The book opens with a super creepy chapter that reeled me right in. I could feel my heart race with every page turn with this book. The book just kept getting more thrilling up until 75%. The book kind of gives away strong clues about the killer so it wasn't difficult for me to figure out who did it. But that took me some time. Time I enjoyed a lot. But figuring out the why & how was important to me so the pages kept turning! The fact that the book is based in a small sleepy town somehow creeps me more. The characters were amazing & plot was exciting, highly twisted & compelling. I'm happy I picked this series! Cant wait for the next one!

Thank you NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer & Danielle Girard for an arc!

Do any of you all get butterflies in your stomach when you read? Like you can’t settle them with every page you turn? This is what happens every single time I read ANYTHING by Danielle Girard, and a reason why she will ALWAYS be one of my favorite authors. This is only the 6th book I’ve read by her (don’t worry I’m still working on the backlist of earlier work) and as always Far Gone had me on the edge of my seat like I was on a roller coaster bout to go down the very first dip at high speed. I kept finding myself wanting more with each page turn, wanting to know how it was going to end. Questioning how people connect with one another. And by the end, everything came together wrapped up in a pretty bow. Did I cry at a certain point? Yes because I’m an emotional man and lose it on happy/sad moments. Easily one of my favorite books of the year and I’m already anticipating the next book in this series. I truly hope there is a next book in this series. Congrats on book #15 🤗

This story grabbed my attention from the beginning and didn’t let go! The plot is entertaining and well developed. It kept me guessing who the killer was til the very end. The characters are intriguing. There are three different storylines in the book, which makes it complex, but not hard to understand. I really enjoyed this book. *this honest review is based on a complimentary copy from the author*
