From the very beginning this book pulls you in fast. A murder of a couple to cover up one crime leads you through years of the unthinkable.
A witness who is in the run, a killer on her trail, detective Kylie Millard trying to track them both down while trying to identify who this witness really is.
This was so fast and action packed I didn’t want to put it down.
I highly recommended this second book of the Badlands Thriller series..

I enjoyed reading this book. It is book 2 in the series, but is fine to read as a standalone. I found the characters to be believable and relatable. The plot twists were well thought out and complex enough to remain interesting throughout the book.

This was such a fast paced read! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! It was action packed! I adored Hannah and Lily and have really enjoyed this series!

Just wait til that ending!😲

Thank you! @netgalley for an ARC for my honest review!

Far Gone by Danielle Girard Well paced action, solid characters, suspenseful and a surprising outcome.. More of Lily's background trauma explored in this book. Happy to note that Kylie has stopped cracking her knuckles, an annoying habit when you can hear it and equally when you read about it. Looking forward to the next case that Kylie and her coworkers are called upon to solve.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

As with her first book in this series, this one was a gripping page turner, that kept me up well into the night reading. This fast paced thriller, has short chapters that flip back-and-forth between characters. The plot is well written, and flows very well. A definite recommend, and hope to see another book in the series. To understand this book it would do you well to read White Out as it is the first book in the series.

From the USA Today bestselling author of White Out comes a story of two heroines with shattered pasts and a town with blood on its hands.

This story is filled with people and their secrets and kept me on the edge of my seat. I'm so glad Girard didn't disappoint with her sequel to White Out. (And for those wondering, it isn't completely necessary to read that one first, although like any other series, it will provide you with more backstory context and character development)

Far Gone drew me in right from the start with its compelling opening. Fourteen-year-old Hannah is invited to babysit a small infant. Before the parents even have a chance to leave, she witnesses a murder, setting off the chain of events for this story. I flew through this book, loving both the writing and the story. Check this book out if you love a good mystery!

I really enjoyed this book. It had so many good things going for it.

It was a mystery with lots of suspense.
It was told from multiple points of view, which is my favorite. In addition, you didn't always know how each of these POV were going to tie together which made it fun.
I loved so many of the characters.
It was a true page turner and I might have stayed up way too late to finish it.

The only issue I had is that it is the 2nd book in a series. I wish I had read the prior book first. You dont need to in order to understand this book at all - but it might have given me more insight into some of the characters.. So I am off to go buy the first one.

I do want to thank the author, the publisher and #netgalley for the ARC which did not impact my review. #FarGone

This book has a very good and intricate plot, and the story is well written and with excellent characters. Like the previous one in the series, there's changing POV from chapter to chapter, but it's easy to follow, and the repetitions are down to a minimum. Very entertaining.

When I started reading this I was definitely hooked - the story drew me in right from the beginning. It started and hardly slowed down. With every page I seemed to have more questions and could only sort of guess at the answers. In terms of the actually story it was a slow build as the story started to unravel and every detail called out started to make sense.
Between the 3 points of view: Hannah, Lily and Kylie, I stayed engaged the entire time. I don't think I favored one over the rest. Although, at the beginning I didn't see how Lily fit in and at times Hannah certainly frustrated me with her decisions.
By the last 100 pages or so I was hooked - could not put it down. Everything started coming together and there was no was I was going to wait to see how it all unfolded. I didn't expect for so much to happen and so many extra details to come together towards the end, but it all wrapped up perfectly!
I definitely recommend, and while it wasn't necessary to read "White Out" (the first in the series) before this one, I wish I had for more context and background on the characters.

Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and Net Galley for the eARC of Far Gone by Danielle Girard. This was my first read by this author and I was impressed!

A suspenseful and page turning thriller and police procedural read that I thoroughly enjoyed. A couple has been murdered in their home. Their babysitter, Hannah, hears the horrible crime take place. When the intruder leaves, Hannah flees with the couple's baby. Hannah recognizes the killer's voice but can't associate a name or face that matches it. DNA is found at the home. But it's doesn't belong to whom you thing it does. Detective Kylie is quick on the scene and investigates this horrible crime. Soon the DNA is linked to Lily who works at the hospital. Just what is going on? Lily is an acquaintance of Detective Kylie. As the detective searches for answers to catch the murderer, the story will take a turn that the reader didn't see coming. Told from 3 different POV's, Far Gone is a gripping and addictive read! I will definitely read more from this author.

This one releases on June 15, 2021!

I really enjoyed "White Out" by Danielle Girard so I was very excited to read the sequel "Far Gone" and it did not disappoint! It is one of those wrong place at the wrong time books and I loved how it unfolded. It had me hooked from the start when 14 year old Hannah witnesses a murder of the couple she is babysitting for.

The story is also told from multiple storylines, which I love and helps to develop all the characters fully. I also like how creatively they all tied together and made sense. Something else I loved about this book were all the strong female characters! "Far Gone" was action packed and had me on the edge of my seat until the very end! I had a hard time putting it down because I needed to know how the story played out.

Thank you NetGalley and Danielle Girard for the advanced copy!

Awful Murder + Missing Witness = Great Story

This novel opens four years after the first novel in this series, with 14 year old Hannah arriving at the Garzas to babysit. She hopes that they leave quickly and not notice how high she is. She moves over to the baby, Tiffany. Someone comes in through the front door. Tells the Garzas to raise their hands. Hannah hides in a nearby closet and sees the husband fall to the floor without hearing a shot. Then she hears a shot, and the wife falls to the floor. Hannah can see thought the crack where hinges hold the door. Then the he kills the husband. After the killer leaves, Hannah is in a quandary. Call the police, but her drug use will be exposed. The killer’s voice and his tattoo are familiar to her. Does the killer know her? Will she be safe if she comes forward? She takes the wife’s car keys and decides to run, but she does call the police anonymously. The novel takes off from here.

The main storyline is presented in three voices. First is Hannah the witness whose critical thinking is serious handicapped by her continued drug use. The other two are Detective Kylie Milliard from the first novel and Lily Baker whose story was the main storyline of that first novel. The author uses these three points of view to weave a very captivating story that seized my interest quickly. Along the way, the story became quite interestingly complex, but not difficult to follow. There were several twists that also helped keep my interest all the way to the end. I really liked an aspect of this main storyline that relied on the events that lead up to the events in the first novel. This second novel improved my understanding of that first novel. I have not seen this happen very often before if at all.

This deep background that is critical to the main storyline also is pure gold for the understanding of the Kylie and Lily characters. This is more like a standalone novel vice the second novel in the series. As for Hannah, she spends almost the entire novel alone. The reader insight to this character comes through the much introspection as she tries to determine what actions she needs to take. Her introspection is affected greatly by her drug use.

As for the aspects of a novel that can change the best novel into an unenjoyable read, they were mostly absent here. There was the drug use by Hannah, but the drugs did not make Hannah a better person, it only led her to bad decisions. There were not any intimate scenes, and swearing is almost nonexistent. I needed one more finger than I have on my hands to count them all. There is violence is described as it occurs, but the author emphases not on the violence but on what effect it has on Hannah and her decision making. Most readers should not have much issues with reading this book.

As mentioned before, the tie-in with the previous novel is the best I have read. Essentially, it includes a mini prequel to the first novel. Reading this novel first should not be a problem, but I suggest that you start with the first novel in the series. The other criteria that I have for a high star rating were met quite well. I could not stop reading late into the night. Lastly, there were not any loose ends at the end. I particular enjoyed the ending. It was not a “they lived happily ever after” but with humans dealing with the hurt of the past with a hope for the future. The worst aspect of this novel is that it is the last novel of this series. Based upon all of the above, I rate this novel with five stars.

I received a free e-book version of this novel through NetGalley from Thomas and Mercer with an expectation for an honest, unbiased review. I wish to thank Thomas and Mercer for the opportunity to read and review this novel early.

Danielle Girard is an incredible writer. Her books keep me so engaged and totally hooked to the point that I want to ignore everything I need to do (like sleep) and keep reading! Far Gone is her newest book and one that suspense lovers will not want to miss!

Look:

When a North Dakota couple is shot down in their home in cold blood, the sleepy town of Hagen wakes with a jolt. After all, it’s usually such a peaceful place. But Detective Kylie Milliard knows better.

Despite not handling a homicide investigation in years, Kylie is on the case. A drop of blood found at the scene at first blush promises to be her best evidence. But it ultimately only proves that someone else witnessed the murder—and the results are shocking: the DNA reveals a familial match to a crime involving local nurse Lily Baker from over a decade ago. This unveiling stirs new nightmares for Lily as she’s forced to reckon with the most traumatic time in her life.

Haunted by their pasts and hunting the killer, Kylie and Lily uncover hellish secrets and impossible truths, finding answers that put both their lives in jeopardy.

White Out was the first book that I read by Danielle and I can’t recommend it enough. Read that one first then get Far Gone when its published on June 15th!

Thanks to Thomas and Mercer for letting me read an advanced copy. This is the 2nd book in this series. This book is better than the 1st book. The characters are well developed. Love .lily & Ivers relationship and would like more focus on that. Kylie needs a solid partner. Enjoyed this book and looking forward to the next.

The book opens up with two murders and a teen age girl who witnesses them. There is an innocent baby at the murder site that the young girl saves. This is a can’t put down mystery with all sorts of twists, some I didn’t see coming. It is the 2nd book in a series but can be read as a stand alone. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

I am starting off my saying I hadn't realized this was a sequel to White Out, so I had no background info about any character(s) or events. I enjoyed the story, it was really well written, there are plenty of twists and the multiple POV chapters between Hannah, Kylie and Lily. This was a pretty good book.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC. All opinions are my own.

OMG! Could not put this down!
A couple are shot dead in what could be seen as a murder-suicide, apart from the 911 call and the baby that survived unscathed.
Detective Kylie Milliard takes the case - few clues are found at the scene, apart from a drop of blood that ties the scene to a crime over 10 years before, and also proving that someone witnessed the murder.
A nurse at the local hospital, Lily is having a busy night in ED when the shot woman is brought in, and she is then given a tiny baby by a girl in the car lot. Who was the girl?
The DNA results of the blood found at the scene stirs nightmares for Lily as she starts to remember what her mind has been blocking out for years. What really happened when she was kidnapped?
The young girl, Hannah, escapes from the house and tries to find somewhere to call her dad - but someone is after her, and will they get to her before Kylie and the police?
Tense, haunting, secrets and answers. What do they all add up to?
