A great read from start to finish, a real page turner. As it was the second book in a series the characters were already familiar so immediately the reader is drawn into their lives once more. Not easy to put down so I finished it the same day. Already planning my next Danielle book

I loved this follow-up to White Out! Detective Kylie Milliard is back, investigating the case of a husband and wife who are shot and killed at home, leaving behind a witness who escapes with their infant daughter. That witness worries that she will be next but has no idea what to do other than get away! We follow the story through Kylie's point of view, the witness's point of view, and Lily Baker's - the ER nurse we met in the previous book. She becomes involved when one of the victims is brought in to the hospital but unfortunately passes away. Lily has no idea how connected she really is to the case, and it's up to her and Kylie to untangle everything before anyone else gets hurt.

You don't need to have read the first book in the series, but it may help to better understand the references to previous events and the motivations of the characters. Lily's past experience of being abducted is a huge factor in this story and she regains some of the memories that she had lost of that traumatic time. And you will not believe how twisted this tale becomes - so many hidden secrets are revealed that will leave your head spinning! I also loved all of the technical medical details included, mostly towards the end, you'll know what I'm referencing once you read it.! The author paints such a vivid picture of life and death situations and the courage faced by medical professionals in the most unfortunate of circumstances. This story is not just an action packed thriller but an emotional study of human resilience and unconditional love.

A fast paced race to the end! I couldn’t put this one down. It starts off with a bang and held my attention for the entire book. I was invested in the characters and the plot moves at a fantastic clip. The case was interesting and the detective work believable. I loved this installment! It wasn’t as atmospheric as the first in the series but I think I enjoyed this one more! My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

This is the second book in the Badlands series written by Danielle Girard. I had no idea it was the 2nd in the series but the summary peaked my interest.

Even though I never read the first book I was able to understand what was going on. I loved the characters. I felt a connection to them. The writing was great and the story was filled with many twists and turns.

I enjoyed.a good mystery and i recommend.

This book starts with a grisly murder and keeps the tension up throughout the rest of the story. When Hannah agrees to babysit for a couple in her neighborhood she never imagines the night will end with both parents dead and her on the run with their baby. Detective Kylie Milliard is the lead investigator on the case. As she digs deeper into what happened she discovers a shocking connection between Hannah and a local woman named Lily Baker. The case keeps twisting along the way. Meanwhile, as the killer tracks Hannah she realizes her dad knows the killer from work. Far Gone is an eventful story that keeps the reader engaged. I would recommend this book to other readers.

Far Gone – Danielle Girard

Hannah Visser is a young teenager who has just arrived to babysit an infant when she is witness to the parents being shot by a lone gunman. Out of sight at the time of the killer’s entrance, she takes refuge in a closet, where she sees the killer approach the baby’s bassinet, before saying something and leaving. Terrified, and high on pills she’s just obtained from a dealer, she thinks she recognizes the voice of the shooter – she’s heard it before, but here? Fearful for the infant’s life and her own, she grabs the baby, the homeowner’s purse and keys, and heads to safety, wherever she can find it.

Kylie Milliard is the lone Detective on the Hagen, NC police force, and chances to answer the 911 call that comes in from a breathless female reporting the murder. As she and fellow officers’ race to the address, dreading the scene that lies ahead, Kylie realizes she never got the name of the caller, nor her role in the discovery of the bodies. Upon reaching the scene, they find the female victim clinging to life, and they also quickly realize the couple’s infant daughter is missing. When Kylie notices a smear of blood on the bassinet, she’s hopeful for a suspect, but the DNA result just creates more questions.

Lily Baker is the nurse working in the small ER clinic that night, along with Dr. Visser, Hannah’s father. It’s a busy evening, made even more so by the arrival of the shooting victim, who dies shortly after arrival despite their best efforts. Lily is still recovering emotionally from a years old ordeal of being held captive for several months, with only scattered memories of the event. As she steps outside to take a 10-minute break, she notices a car in the lot with a woman inside – the woman then lays a bundle on the asphalt and asks Lily to care for it – it’s a baby.

As Hannah struggles to find safety, Kylie investigates an ever confusing and heartbreaking case, with an unexpected and painful connection to Lily. Told from the perspectives of these three women, this book is guaranteed to hook you from the first page and will keep you up well into the night. It wasn’t until I completed this book that I learned it’s actually the 2nd in a series which goes into much greater detail regarding Lily & Kylies respective pasts, so you can bet I’ll be reading that novel next! I’m a big fan of Ms. Girard’s ‘Dr. Schwartzman’ series, and I’ll be adding this series to my must read list as well! Great read!!

This is the second book in the "Badlands" series and while I think it can easily be read as a stand-alone, reading the 1st book (White Out) first will fill in background on most of the main characters. The story is told from the perspective of three different characters: Kylie Milliard, the only detective in the small town of Hagen, ND's police department; Lily Baker, an ER nurse at the local hospital (we learned her history in book 1); and Hannah Visser, a 14 year old girl who goes to babysit and ends up witnessing the double homicide of the parents of the baby she was set to care for. Hannah recognizes the voice of the killer but can't place him (could he be a cop?), and the fact that she is high on opioids sends her into hiding instead of running to the police. The race is on to find the killer, and to find Hannah before the killer finds her to silence the witness to his crime. A fast-paced thriller with strong, likeable female characters.

**Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a free e-book copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**

4/5

This is the second book in the Badlands series written by Danielle Girard. I saw this book on NetGalley and requested it without realising it was the second book of a series, so had a look at the first book and realised I had bought it last year but hadn't read it yet - so safe to say I was drawn to the storyline!

I really enjoyed this book and thought it followed on nicely from the first. The storyline was very easy to follow; however, I think it would have been a lot harder to do so if you hadn't read the first book - or at least you wouldn't get the whole impact of the book. I personally really liked this but I can see how this would be a negative if you hadn't read the previous book at all, or if it had been a while and you couldn't remember what had happened previously.

What I also enjoyed about this book was the fact that everything was well wrapped up and felt resolved. The story was tense and thrilling, the characters likeable (despite making some terrible decisions throughout - Hannah I'm looking at you), and the multiple points of view really added to the enjoyment of the book without being confusing in the slightest. The twists and turns were perfectly executed and the writing style of the book was very enjoyable.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to fans of thrillers and police procedurals, but I do recommend you read the first book of the series (White Out) first - which I also personally loved!

A couple was murdered in their own home. But Hannah—the babysitter- was at the house when
the killing happened so she heard the crime happened along with the baby. Being just a 14-year
old girl and being at the scene of a crime gives her a heavy impact. Then there is this DNA
involves a nurse from decades ago, Lily. Now Detective Kylie has a job to solve this case. As
they haunt the killer and came across the secrets and the almost unbearing truths of their past. I
won`t say I am morbid for my likes about a book that involves crime. It is not about the killings
but it is about the crime-solving dilemma, the mind-twisting clues, and mysteries to solve. A
good story has all of those and this book is one of them. It has a fast phase story that will bring
up the plot that every reader deserves. A kind of story that will make you regret it if you stop
reading it. A book that will drive you to its ends.

I am not sure if my words would suffice how good this book was. I will just say that this won`t
disappoint you and will make you crave for more. What`s more interesting is this is a
perspective of three women facing their problems. Three powerful minds in those three powerful
characters, Hannah, Lily, and Kylie.

This book and author never fail to deliver a great book. I love the characters and the depth of building those characters so you feel like you are "in" the book with them going through what they are.

This book is 2nd book with some of the same characters from her previous book, Whiteout. It was a bit complicated trying to remember the characters roles in previous book even with explanations. That is reason I give this 4 out of 5 stars. I have read the previous book and still found it difficult to piece together. I enjoyed storyline and characters

Oooh, this one was so good! Girard created very relatable characters in the three women who tell this story: Fourteen-year-old Hannah, a sad girl who struggles with herself in spite of her privileged background, Lily survivor of an abduction and now a nurse and Kylie, a deputy sheriff driven to solve the murder of a young couple and the disappearance of their infant daughter. The story unfolds at a breakneck pace, but without sacrificing character development. The murders and the reasons behind them are nothing the reader can guess early on and although the final reveal is shocking, it was completely believable. This was the first book I have read by Girard, but I will certainly go back and buy the book that preceded this one and any more she writes in this series. I was enthralled.

Far Gone
Arc Review:
4.25*

Fast paced psychological thriller/crime fiction /mystery… my kind of novel.

I like a book that takes me on a fast pace journey. This one is pretty unbelievable, but not in a bad way. I don’t mind a good crime thriller where I think, this couldn’t really happen, as long as I want to keep reading. I read this in one sitting. I like that my mind would jump to a quick conclusion, and maybe I was close, but wrong too; like an episode of CSI etc.

Short summary…
A couple is shot down in their home, only the babysitter, Kylie, and the couples baby were at home at the time. The babysitter is in shock at what she hears while hidden.
A drop of blood found at the scene reveals a connection in the case, a familial match to a past crime involving local nurse, Lily, over a decade ago.

A big part of this novel is a DNA mystery. If you like crime thrillers, you will like this book.

Haunted by their pasts and hunting the killer, Kylie and Lily uncover hellish secrets and impossible truths, finding answers that put both their lives in jeopardy.

I really like that the book held my attention the whole time. Thrillers should be fast paced, and this one is.

This book is action packed, but not scary.
I was not triggered at all while reading this novel, just the right amount of details of the crime.

I did not read book 1, I am guessing it is not necessary. I was never confused while reading book 2.

I will follow this author.

Far Gone is the first book I read by Danielle Girard and it was a nice discovery.
I both liked the storyline and the main characters (all females) even if Hannah sometimes made me want to shake her quite a bit.

There were very few clues about the who and why along the way so the reader have to wait for the heroines to put together all the pieces. Trust me, it's worth it!

Far Gone the second book in the Badlands Thriller Series but I feel it can be read as first since I did not have problems following the story. Although it made me very curious about Lily's past and I'm sure planning to read White Out to find out more ;)

At last, I'd like to thank the author for the chance to read her story through NetGalley and I hope she appreciates my honest review

This is the second book in this series. The author does a great job of showcasing how PTSD has long term effects on survivors. I loved the small town setting and how the characters are so I tuned with each other

A good follow up police procedural with the characters of the first book continuing alongside the main plot. The characters are natural and the investigative process realistic. The one flaw I felt was the girl wanting to go all the way to the cabin to call her father which she could have done from anywhere. 3.5 stars

Danielle Girard rocks! Far Gone kept me in suspense from the beginning! The characters, Hannah, Kylie, Lily were very well defined. When a couple is murdered, Hannah (the babysitter) is witness to it! She managed to hide from the assailant and from that point on, she kept running and hiding so that she wouldn't get caught. She was the character that caught my attention the most. As you read the book, you find out that Hannah is addicted to opiods and you can almost feel her withdrawals and her highs! You wanted the best for her and yet, she would always turn to the wrong side! My heart broke with every step she took.

Kylie uncovers some truths that will make her investigation even more confusing! I could not put this book down. It grabbed me from the beginning.

Intense, roller coaster ride! Left me breathless!

So very glad I was able to read the upcoming Far Gone by Danielle Girard. Like a Girard book I read last year, White Out, this was another piece of spine tingling suspense, with relatable, real-life characters. I hate the term, "suspend belief If you have to suspend belief to enjoy a piece of fiction, I think you've lost the meaning. This wasn't such a book. Although it was a series of awful traumatic events that you could find in the morning news, it was a well put together piece of work.

I was happy to see Det. Kylie Milliard back for an encore appearance blending "old-fashioned" gumshoe policing with new tech to solve a current and a very cold, fourteen year old case. All the characters had an essence of grit, guts, empathy and emotions you couldn't ignore or brush off. Especially, Hannah, a teenager with several bags to carry; a cold mother, separated father, drug addiction and witness to a crime. Hannah perseveres and comes away remarkably intact. Ahh, the resilience of youth!

Another great offering by DG. Thank you #NetGalley and Thomas Mercer.

Hagen, North Dakota a double homicide, a witness Hannah a baby sitter, Fourteen had just taken some drugs, and now felt calm and could speak with confidence, and knew she was on a high. An intruder busted in as the couple were leaving, Hannah looking at the crib with the baby, ducked into the closet near by. Terrorizing minutes, how to think, taking the baby, she was to high to drive. What unfolds is with Hannah, a nurse Lily and the detective Kylie A past that was connected to this nightmare.
Given Arc from .Net Galley and Thomas Mercer for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
