Ok Lucinda Berry is my literal favorite author and this book didn’t disappoint! I love the way she writes, I love the way she makes the characters come alive, I love the way she makes your jaw drop with her plot twists. The ending of this one wasn’t my favorite but I still devoured this book in 12 hours. Can’t wait for her next one!

Thank you NetGalley for a copy of The Secrets of Us. Unfortunately, this was not my favorite book by Lucinda Berry. I enjoyed the Perfect Child and The Best of Friends. But this one was just a little too ridiculous for my taste. I’m not a fan of the unreliable narrator and using it to turn the plot upside down.

I have been looking forward to reading The Secrets of Us by Lucinda Berry for months, and it did not disappoint!

Nichole and Krystal are foster sisters. Both had tough beginnings in life, but they both constructed what appear to be successful, happy lives. Nichole is married to an architect who loves her, and Krystal is a successful lawyer. They have stayed close well into adulthood, but when Nichole sets fire to her house in an attempt to kill her husband who she believes is an imposter of her real husband, she is committed to a psychiatric hospital. Krystal immediately begins an investigation to figure out what happened to her sister, revealing something horrible that happened in the sisters' pasts. The story unfolds brilliantly and is an addicting read!

This book had me hooked on page 1!! I love that! Gripping plot line until the end. The ending made me sad.

Krystal and Nichole are as close as sisters could be. Raised in foster care, they learned to rely on each other throughout their difficult childhood. Now Krystal is a respected lawyer and Nichole is happily married...at least Krystal thought so. But now her sister is locked in a psychiatric ward, hearing voices, and accused of trying to kill her husband. Krystal needs to find out the truth to save Nichole from succumbing to her demons forever. but it means dealing with their past...and what they did there.

As excited as I was by the premise, this novel fell a little flat for me. It's well written, but the last third, with all the twists and revelations, stretched my credulity a bit too much. It felt like a book of two halves - the first a detailed explanation of the sister's lives and their unbreakable bond, and then the second half becomes breathless and a bit ludicrous. And the ending just...ends. I enjoyed the first half very much, but the second left me wanting more.

Thank you to NetGalley and to the publishers, who granted me a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review,

Such an intriguing story of these two woman from teenagers until the present.
Tragedy unfolds around them 'then" and it has shaped the way they live "now".

This is full of twist and turns that will keep you guessing until the end.

Fast paced thrill ride &Totally unputdownable. I love thrillers with sisters, and this one was nicely twisted. I loved it and I really need to discuss that ENDING!! I will definitely be watching for more from this author.

A pretty good book. I liked the flashbacks and Nichole being a bit of an unreliable narrator, and her relationship with Krystal was interesting. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the writing style and therefore it was kind of hard for me to connect to the characters. I didn't really care for any of them, or what happened to them. I also found the actual plot pretty confusing and the ending a bit weak, it wasn't the most original and then ended pretty sudden, I would've liked some more explanation there.

Whew. The only words that come to mind are A LOT.

This one was so much and the unpacking didn’t stop until the last word.

It is definitely one of those books that you need to sit with for some time before you even know your true feelings. However, I stand by my strict rule of writing my review based on my immediate feelings, so that is what is happening here.

The Secrets of Us is a perfect page-turner and if you’re wanting something to keep you on the edge of your seat with no clue what the hell is happening, THIS IS YOUR BOOK.

I’m notoriously good at guessing twists and figuring out an ending, but it is my greatest joy when I’m left wondering what’s next!

Whatever you do, add this one to your summer list. I promise you won’t be sorry!

3.5/5 ✨

Wow. The amazing Lucinda Berry does it again! She knocked this one out of the park. This book explores our darkest secrets and disturbing thoughts. What a brilliant psychological thriller. I read this in 2 sittings. Highly recommend this book.

Excellent psychological thriller! Lucinda Berry is one of the few authors that I will buy anything she writes without a second thought. Her books are impossible to put down thrillers and this one was no exception. The tension builds from the first page when Nichole sets her house on fire with her beloved husband inside. Krystal (Nichole’s foster sister) drops everything to come to Nichole’s aide because they have always been there for each other since they first met as young children. As the case unfolds and the girls past comes to light the heartbreaking tale of the girls childhood comes to light. Run, don’t walk to get this book.

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book captured me from the right, and it was a great combination of both the present and the past flashbacks equally as intriguing.

I was hooked, finishing this book in 48 hours trying to figure out why did Nicole burn down her house, what secret was Krystal hiding for Nicole, and who to believe.

One of my favourite passage was Nicole's flashback regarding the piglets, so well written, so emotionally- charged.

I wish there is an epilogue to tell us what really happened.

Wow! This was the first Lucinda Berry book I've read, and I can't wait to read more of her books! I love the "psychology" in psychological thrillers, and Lucinda Berry is a clinical psychologist-turned-writer, which makes her stories so much more interesting and authentic! (It's always good when an author knows the subject they're writing about really well!)

I loved the dual-mystery aspect, finding out what happened when the main characters were kids, and then also what's happening "now". But my favourite part of the story has to be Krystal trying to figure out Nichole's mental condition, and also trying to figure out what happened the night with her husband!

I was so captured by this book I didn't even have time to guess or try to predict how it might end - and I likely wouldn't have been able to anyway! So good!!!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for gifting me a digital copy of the latest book by a favorite author, Lucinda Berry. 4.5 stars rounded up!

Krystal and Nichole are closer than sisters, bonded together by sharing a foster home and a traumatic event when they were teenagers. Now adults, Krystal is a family law attorney and Nichole is married to Aiden and a popular teacher. But when Nichole is taken to a psychiatric facility accused of setting her house and fire and trying to kill Aiden, Krystal drops everything to try and save Nichole. She hires a lawyer and works with the doctors and detectives to try to find answers - but those answers lead back to their shared past and a terrible secret.

Lucinda Berry is a former clinical psychologist and a research in childhood trauma, so of course she nails it! Everything the sisters go through as a result of their trauma feels so real. The book is told from the POV of both Krystal and Nichole in the present time as well as before. There were lots of twists and turns in this thriller - highly recommended!

If you like physiological thrillers it doesn't get any better than this! Lucinda Berry is a master of her craft. The characters Kristal and Nichole grew up together in foster care. The bond they created was what got them through their abusive existence. Krystal became a lawyer while Nichole became a teacher and was married to an architect. There was lots of twists and turns throughout and this was told in a then and now way so you get the back story as well as the present one. The only negative for me was the ending. I would have liked an epilogue to know more about what happened to everyone.. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys this genre.

Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to read this incredible ARC for my honest opinion.

Secrets. Trauma. Lies.

Krystal and Nicole are foster sisters who formed their own family unit soon after they met. From a young age, they have always been there for each other. That does not change when Nicole is committed to a psychiatric hospital after trying to kill her husband, Aiden. Krystal cannot believe it. Nicole and Aiden were the perfect couple. She even went on weekend trips with them. Wouldn't she know if they were having problems? Her sister told her everything, didn't she? Desperate to help her sister she is determined to get answers.

As Krystal searches for the truth of what happened that pivotal night, she learns that her sister and her husband had secrets. Who doesn’t? But her sister, who appeared so happy is now experiencing what appears to be a psychotic break.

The book is told through alternating past and present chapters. As their past life in foster care is laid bare, we see how their bond was formed, the life they led, and a childhood tragedy affected Nicole deeply.

Lucinda Berry is a former clinical psychologist who also was a leading researcher in childhood trauma and utilizes her knowledge in writing her books. She can delve into her character's psyche and accurately describe symptoms, treatment, use diagnostic terms and diagnosis in her books.

I found the book to be well written and plotted. I really enjoyed how the past and present chapters provided insight. We see how tragedy, trauma and secrets can affect someone.

Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Loved it!! There were so many twists and turns. I had no idea who to believe and wasn't expecting that ending. Nichole and Krystal have been through so much with each other. Good, bad and horrible. Their childhood was extremely traumatic. Nichole never really got over what happened. Why didn't she ever seek out help?? She desperately needed it. Wouldn't forensics and great police work reveal what really happened to Alice? The police had to know the truth wasn't being told. I was surprised when everything was finally revealed. I enjoyed the story, characters (even though most of them were all sorts of crazy/liars) and writing style.

Definitely recommend the book. It's a great psychological thriller and will keep you guessing until the very end. Look forward to reading more books by the author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas & Mercer through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
