I loved the concept of this book. A screenwriter meets an actor in a coffee shop on February 4, 2003 and they agree to meet again in 10 years. They don't exchange names or contact information. Each "chapter" is the same date in the following year and only the day. There is some background included, but mostly, it's the crazy things that happen on that day.

This is such a wild ride of happenstance and circumstances that lead up to the final day. As the title suggests, so many plot twists are thrown into this book. It's a great story that makes you think "what if" about your own life. It's very...ironic...

The book is full of cultural references and nostalgia, famous movies and music. Near misses and happy endings. Friendships and romances. There are so many things to connect to that make you feel invested in this story! My chief complaint, if anything, was the main character feeling like she was a supporting character to her own life because everyone needs to feel like the lead character, but that was all part of the charm, as well. Great summer read!

I am so happy that I requested this book and actually got a copy! I have read one other book by this author and I hated it. This one though was AMAZING! I could not put it down and read it in less than two days! I will admit that Olivia did get very irritating at times. I almost screamed out loud at some parts because she was just being so illogical. She's been best friends with Fiona all her life, they are together ALL the time and love each other dearly which is why it made no sense to me that she didn't communicate with her well. Other than that I absolutely loved it. The lack of communication wasn't even severe enough for me to take off a star. I loved Olivia and Fiona's relationship and Liam was the best lead male I have read in quite awhile. This book is so perfectly titled. The whole time I was reading it I kept wondering where is this going? How is this going to play out?? I had numerous guesses as to how it would end and I still didn't figure out the twist. Part of what happened was a thought I had at some point while reading but it definitely was not in my top 3 of possible outcomes. I feel this NEVER happens in a romcom novel. It is rare gem and I have so happy to have read it!

Plot Twist is a engaging, quick read that was enjoyable. However, this book takes place over a ten year period. and is sectioned by the passage of a year. It is set in reality but I felt that some of the events in this book were not that realistic, or were too convenient for the plot. Also, because we only get to hear from the main character one day every year in the ten year span, I feel like I couldn't relate or feel connected to her. Overall, an average read.

Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for letting me read an e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

This story follows Olivia in a 10 year lifespan in which each Feb 4th is filled with ironies and coincidences while she navigates life and all its challenges. I found the premise intriguing from the beginning and had a good time reading along. 🙂

I enjoyed seeing the different relationships portrayed in Liv’s life, from family to love interests and her best friend, they were kind of messy and not at all perfect but it made it feel more realistic and relatable, it shed some light in how we can all make mistakes along the way and how you can overcome them to build a stronger relationship with your closest friends. I felt this one focused more on the friendship side of the story and was a bit light on the romance, which was ok, just don’t go in expecting swoony scenes and fuzzy feelings. 💞

I don’t think I have to tell you this, but there’s a plot twist near the end😂 which tbh, I wasn’t the biggest fan of, but I’m keeping this review spoiler free.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read even though I would’ve liked the ending to be a little bit different. 🙈

"I had long ago accepted the fact that I was a supporting character, and supporting characters don't fall in love with leading men."

This book sucked me in right away. I absolutely had to find out what was going to happen each February 4th and how in the world we were going to get a happily ever after. I loved Fiona and Olivia's friendship. Some of the more emotional moments just about destroyed me. I felt like my heart was breaking right alongside Olivia's. It did kill me a little bit that this book encompasses an entire decade, even if it's told in 1 day snapshots. I'm not usually so patient in waiting for my happy ending.
This is such a unique story and I definitely did not see the twists coming! It made it so much better in the end! If you're looking for an atypical romantic story, give this one a try!

Olivia Ross is thirty years old, trying to write a screenplay, and tired of being hit on in the coffee shop. After avoiding one guy by faking a connection to another, the mystery guy suggests that they meet up in 10 years, with the promise of him acting in the screenplay that Olivia has yet to write. Every year on February 4th, Olivia is pulled back into this weird day, not recognizing that there's a romantic comedy playing out right in front of her...

I truly did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did, but it was so much fun. Revisiting the same day every year can be done poorly (I was not a fan of "One Day"), but sometimes, it is incredible, as it was here. If you enjoyed "November 9" by Colleen Hoover, I strongly recommend that you pick this up as well!

DNF

The premise of this one seemed really interesting but unfortunately, it just didn’t keep my attention while reading it. I couldn’t connect to any of the characters or the settings so I decided to put this one down.

If you’re interested in this book, a story spanning a decade between a film writer and actor, check this one out!

Plot Twist was a unique take on rom-coms. One fateful February 4, Olivia Ross meets a handsome stranger in a coffee shop and they promise to meet up again in 10 years on the same date. Each chapter takes place on February 4, and it seems like something ironic is always happening. Overall, I enjoyed this one. It did take me a while to get into, though. Olivia is 30 when when story starts, and I kind of wish she would have been younger (maybe 25-ish), mainly because she just seemed younger to me. I just felt like she did not seem to grow a lot over the course of 10 years. Also, because every chapter takes place a year apart, I felt like we missed some parts of the story because it was more like being told about it than seeing what happens at the time. I did enjoy the irony of some of the situations and I really liked the friendship between Olivia and Fiona. If you are looking for a unique twist on a rom-com this one will fit the bill. I received this eARC courtesy of netgalley but all opinions are my own, thank you NetGalley!

I had so much fun reading this novel and could barely put it down to eat! It was a rollercoaster for sure but it was a really fun time!

The writing I absolutely loved. It made me laugh out loud, especially when Olivia comments to the reader about her geographical errors. I also enjoyed the formatting with it being centered around one day in particular throughout the years. It kept it fresh. Some of the events I found were a little overdramatized but overall, I had a fun time.

I did however find myself a little disappointed that it wasn't entirely a romance, as that was what I'd thought I was getting into.

In conclusion I cannot wait to read more from this author, and will recommend this novel to everyone. Oh and the ending was perfect.

Alright, I was not expecting the book to go *that* way!

Cute rom-com that has lots of celebrity references and cameos. Olivia meets someone (an actor) in a coffee shop. They promise they’ll meet back there in a decade-him with Academy Awards and her with a completed screenplay.

We follow Olivia through the next 10 years and on February 4th (the day she met the guy in the coffee shop) every year something ironic and crazy happens.

I thought this was a cute read. I liked Olivia, and the fact that she was in her 30s and not married / with children / still trying to figure her life out. Fiona is an amazing best friend and Liam just makes my smile.

The ending was unexpected (to me, at least!) but still slightly predictable! Overall I liked reading this.

Content warning-mild cheating on romantic partners (very mild).

Nobody does it like Bethany Turner in a rom-com. This one is filled with wonderful humor, romance and leaves a really "feel good" feeling when you are done.

Witty characters, interesting and humor filled plot that leaves one warm and happy inside.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really tried to like this book, but I'm sorry I couldn't. I'm not a fan of, love triangles, cheating, and stories that span over 10 years because the characters can't express their feelings. Travelling alone to a different country for six months and not growing up or accomplishing anything? It didn't feel like it needed to be included in the story.
There were nice moments between Fiona and Olivia, but it didn't make up for the whole book. I know others liked this, so it was probably just me.
I won't be posting this review online.

This was one of the strangest books I've ever read -- somewhere early on it crossed over from quirky characters to just deeply odd characters. That said, I enjoyed this although it took my nearly 4 days to read it because it was easy to put down. However, when I got to the end/last 15%, I was shocked, dismayed and just upset. The "twist" was a total betrayal! The ultimate resolution was fine and I liked it but the twist was very off putting and really, really not necessary.

Plot Twist comes out next week on June 15, 2021 and you can purchase HERE. I feel like this author was trying to be Taylor Jenkins Reid but didn't really succeed in that vein.

I found myself hoping I could actually become friends with this guy. He was gorgeous, I realized more and more with each passing moment, but that wasn't it. I liked him. I didn't necessarily even want to date him. He was too handsome. Too rugged. Too charming. Too perfect perhaps? He wasn't my type at all. I had long ago accepted the fact that I was a supporting character, and supporting characters don't fall in love with leading men. But it's perfectly acceptable for them to be friend. In fact, that's the whole reason supporting characters are there.

I loved this book! I read it in one day and was captivated the entire time!

The main character stumbles across the perfect guy at the coffee shop. There time is cut short but they agree to meet back in that same spot in 10 years. On that date, every year, something happens that brings the characters together. The story is full of humor, irony, romance, and frustration at times!

This is a second chance romance - I normally don't love these tropes but it was such a good story and the characters were so likeable that it totally worked for me!

I really enjoyed the way the story was laid out - over 10 years. Each chapter was a year later. At first I was a little worried that it would feel too rushed but the pacing felt good!

This is perfect for you if you are looking for a super fun, sweet, and different second chance romance with a great group of characters who's lives are seemingly forever intertwined with SUCH a good plot twist at the end!

Thank you to the author, Thomas Nelson and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I tried so hard to like this book, I really did - but I hated it. It was an interesting concept that was poorly executed. The writing was clunky, the characters were off in terms of their age and maturity, and I found them extremely annoying. What was this book supposed to be? It could have been a romcom, a "slice of life" story, a story about love between two best friends, about following your dreams, or.... The book tried to be all of these, and none of them worked or were fully developed. Sorry, cannot recommend.

I finished Plot Twist in one evening and WHAT A TWIST! Everyone needs friends like Fi and Liam, especially Olivia. Grinding away in your twenties is expected, in your thirties it's exhausting, at least Olivia has a goal - her screenplay. A chance encounter with a mysterious Irish(?) man leads to a ten-year plan. She's going to finish her script, he's going to win tons of awards as a famous actor, and they're going to meet again .... at the coffee shop... in 10 years. And therein begins Ironic Day, February 4. I loved this modern retelling of Sleepless in Seattle, and even more, than the book points that out within the text. I loved that this isn't about a 20-something, that we end on characters in their 40s, that we see people grow, struggle, and deal with real-life events and relationships. It's such a wonderful and unexpected rom-com.

5/5 Stars

I really loved the synopsis of this book (I am a sucker for romcoms that implement writing in the character's lives after all) but the execution left a bit to be desired. I had a hard time getting into Plot Twist and though the story did pick up once I was used to the writing style, I wasn't super invested in the romance and actually cared more about Olivia herself than the relationship.
Still, it was a quick and overall enjoyable read and I'd be open to read more from the author in the future.

Plot Twist is cute, clever, and frequently laugh-out-loud funny - what more can you ask for in a romcom? At least a little more, it turns out.

Honestly, my problems with this book mostly sound kind of petty and trivial when I write them out. Olivia, the protagonist, is an aspiring screenwriter (emphasis on "aspiring" - it takes her most of a decade to finish one screenplay, which she is then too precious over to allow it to be edited and actually made into a film when she gets a great opportunity). Yet she's bizarrely and excessively snobby about movies in a way that didn't...really...make sense?? I get that the anti-romance thing was, like, a Thing, but the book acts like she's a total hipster (the second a movie she adores gets Oscar buzz and everyone else sees it, she jokes that she's now lost respect for it), but her actual taste in cinema is anything but obscure, and some of the movies she's a snob about are action movies, fantasy adventures, all kinds of different genres. Plus she seems able to flawlessly reference a few decades' worth of romcoms at the drop of a hat when it suits her (yet is unfamiliar with the entire premise of Sleepless in Seattle later?), so...who knows. Is this too petty a complaint? Maybe, but it was jarring and continuous through the entire book.

Possibly more significantly, a major plot point near the end of the book relies on her being kind of a jerk to her best friend - you can't be that mad that someone doesn't know the truth about something you've spent so many years lying to them about! I don't find miscommunication-based plot lines nearly as obnoxious as many readers do, but really, everyone involved in this little love triangle would have been SO much happier years earlier if they'd all just tried talking normally about things just a little more, once in a while. It just kind of feels like...a waste of so many years. And for all the talk from love interest Liam and bestie Fiona about how special and extraordinary our protagonist is, she doesn't seem all that amazing. Especially to the two of them. (Plus, you want everyone to dramatically celebrate you finishing one screenplay draft in TEN YEARS? Good luck with that.)

But you know what? It's a romcom. And even if the rom is a teensy bit of a letdown because the decade of missed connection feels unnecessarily prolonged, the com part makes up for a lot of that. It's legitimately quite funny, and I found myself laughing out loud many times. An easy, fun, goofy read, albeit one that was maybe a bit more ambitious than it was able to achieve.

I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. I finished it in one sitting cause I just wanted to know what was happening and when it would finally break her way. I was surprised yet excited with how it ended. I especially appreciated how despite issues throughout the years to two friends stuck with each other.
