Unclear what the premise of this book is. It’s a tad choppy and it bounces around each year, but throughout it the main character is on again and off again with the same boy and not really doing anything. Just wasn’t my book.

I enjoyed this pop-culture-infused romance! The story centers around greeting card (and aspiring screenplay) writer Olivia makes plans to meet the actor she just met, in 10 years -to make a film together.
It's unusual to follow characters over 10 years and though it was a lot of fun. Each February 4th you learn what the universe has in store for Olivia, her dreams of writing that screenplay and her love life.
This is a great book for rom-com lovers, with so many great movie references and "cameos" by well-known actors throughout. I enjoyed the cute greeting card interludes between years and seeing the friendship between Olivia and her best friend Fiona evolve. Olivia can be a frustrating character at times, but I enjoyed the decade we spent together!
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for an advanced copy of this and the opportunity to share my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I LOVED the ending of Plot Twist. ❤️
It was unexpected (yes, I know it's right there in the title 😅, but I didn't see it coming) and perfectly fitting.
Overall, however, the concept of the book didn't work for me. The annual check-in with the main characters was abrupt, and that made the characters feel one-dimensional.
I do think this would be a great pick for fans of This Time Next Year or One Day in December!

Olivia Ross is a greeting card writer to pay the bills. However, she dreams of one day writing a screenplay of her own. While trying to make her dream a reality, she meets a man at a coffee shop who dreams of becoming a famous actor. Spontaneously they create a pact. Meet up in 10 years, same time, same place- and make their dream project together, no matter what.
The two part ways, but they never share particulars. Yet each year to the date something happens that ties loosely connected moments to this mysterious man. In the meantime, Olivia feels like her life has stalled in work and in love. Year after year she’s both haunted and infatuated by the idea of finding this man again, especially when she sees he’s made it big after all.
But like the old adage says, life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans. Is Olivia meant to make it big? Is she destined to meet the mystery man again? Or has she been so busy wondering what life will bring that she had forgotten to acknowledge all she already has?
I really didn’t know what was going to happen to Olivia, so I guess the title is pretty fitting. However, I couldn’t help but feel there was a bit of bait and switch going on. The beginning makes you think this story is going in one direction, when it takes another one entirely. Olivia was also a bit annoying at times, making her a hard character to root for. Side note, this marked my second book in a row that refers to Sleepless in Seattle as the gold standard of romcoms. I have to say even all these years later, that I agree.
Thanks to @netgalley and @thomasnelson for an ARC of this novel that releases next month!

I received a copy of this story from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
3.5 stars but I felt I had to round down.
I liked this book. I found it enjoyable. But it felt like it was missing something. The cast of characters is interesting and unique but I found Olivia annoying at times. She never could get out of her own way and had a huge blind spot about it. She always seemed so unsure about what she wanted and since she's the narrator, I felt unsure for most of the book, too. I suppose that means she was an incredibly effective narrator but I didn't like that part. It made me feel directionless. Who WANTS to be the supporting character in their own life?!
Points for an ending I didn't see coming! It made sense and I found myself really liking it. It had the right blend of growth, poignancy, and humor. I also appreciated that this is a story of friendship as much as it is a more realistic rom-com. The only emotions this story elicited were ones of love for the friendship Olivia and Fiona have. Sure, they went through some shit but they always had each other's backs and I thrilled at seeing that.
On the whole, I enjoyed this book but I'm not quite sure I'd recommend it. It'd probably depend on the person asking for suggestions.

Lovers of Serendipity, this is for you!
This was such a fun book to witness, each chapter was an entire year that passed and the reader would only get a glimpse of one day per year on that on specific day. We don't know the details, we don't know what changed and we don't know what would happen in one year's time. But we did catch enough talks between friends and important coincidences that would happen on the fourth of February that the reader isn't lost in the story. It just ends up being yearly window that we get to see into the character's lives, and that has it's own kind of fun!
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the earc in return for an hones review.

Plot Twist is novel about two best friends living in California, pursuing their careers and leaving a trail of broken hearts along the way. The author is very talented and made the story engaging and entertaining but honestly I thought the main characters were swallow and frustratingly immature. The only character I liked was Liam and I wished he had just walked away sooner and found love with someone who valued him, Most of the tortured love story could have been avoided if Olivia was so caught up in her own self. I wished there was a lesson learned but despite her happy ending it left me wondering.

3.5⭐
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This is one of those books you read and you're really not sure whether you really liked it, or really didn't.
We follow Olivia an aspiring screenwriter who meets an aspiring actor in a coffee shop, they make a pact to meet again in the same shop, ten years later - Every chapter is another year on the same day, personally I found I was unable to create any real connections with the characters because of the gaps in the timeline, I found the main character annoying and petty at times - we follow her from age 30 to 40 and i really think it would have been better to start at 20. I also wasn't a fan of the constant Hollywood references, that's just personal preference.
I think I was a little disappointed as I was expecting a romance and if that's what you are looking for then this isnt for you. It definitely has romance in it, but very little. More of a contemporary with a hint of romance.
However, I found myself picking it up and reading a considerable chunk without being bored. The humour in here is good and I was intruiged to know what was going to happen at the end of this ten years! The ending surprised me, made me laugh and I definitely did not expect it - it's definitely a plot twist and I liked it.

So this book may have the best opening scene ever. Having just turned 30, Olivia is surprised by how many guys are hitting on her at the coffee shop. But a stranger helps her repel another guy with a tall tale about how they have loved each other for years. As they leave, Olivia and the stranger agree to meet again at the coffee shop exactly ten years later. Their plan is that he will become a famous actor, and she will write a screenplay for him. Thereafter, the book includes scenes from that day, February 4, each year as a glimpse into Olivia's life.
Each new year begins with a message from a greeting card, as Olivia writes greeting cards. They are hilarious as they set the tone for what comes. I also particularly enjoyed that Olivia, the protagonist of this rom-com not only doesn't believe in rom-coms, she doesn't like the genre.
Parts were tough to read, as there were times I didn't like Olivia's choices. Yet I still related to them. So much of this book is about her growing up and about whether our loves are about our choices or fate. Other parts are hilarious and kept me laughing out loud. Ultimately, I loved the plot twists and the ending. I recommend this book, but go in with an open mind expecting something quite different from the usual rom-com.
Thank you for the advanced copy. These opinions are my own.

A lesson in how NOT to live your life!
Have you ever been so infuriated with a book but you couldn't stop reading because the writing was so good?! I know this statement is an oxymoron, but Plot Twist is in a world of its own. Usually, when you dislike a book, you stop reading, but, for some reason, I couldn't put it down! No matter how angry I became, my eyes remained glued to my Kindle, absorbing every page until the spell broke, and I was set free!
Olivia Ross is a thirty-year-old aspiring screenwriter who believes that she is destined to be the supporting character in everyone's story, including her own. However, on February 4th, 2003, she meets an actor at a coffee shop, and they spontaneously make a pact to meet in ten years — Olivia with a completed screenplay and the stranger with an armful of awards, ready to be her lead star. The exchange happens so quickly that it seems like a dream; but, as February 4th rolls in each year, Olivia will experience a series of ironic encounters that will shape who she becomes. What will happen in ten years? Will the strangers meet, or will they have moved on with their lives, holding onto the fairytale of their first meeting?
Plot Twist had every chance of being a home run! From its incredible first chapter that had me hooked to the humor that carried the story, it was impossible to not obsess over Olivia's life leading up to February 4th, 2013. However, as one year turned to five, my faith in Olivia began to waver. It felt as though she was wasting so many years holding back that she almost willingly missed her destiny. Who gets that many opportunities to do something with their life or profess their love, only to turn around and claim themselves unworthy?! By 2010, I was done. Olivia had blown every possible opportunity, and every time the door opened for her to do something profound, she chose the hardest, loneliest, and darkest route possible!
There is no way for me to justify these elements of the novel. Had Olivia been 20 going on 30, I might've been able to understand the author's direction. But, reading about a grown woman purposefully holding herself back while those around her seized the day was exhausting! While the writing was excellent — engaging, addictive, and fresh — the story itself was empty — no spirituality, depth, positive elements, maturity, or inspiration to be found. It was also cheesy beyond belief, and all the name dropping felt super tacky after a while.
I know that many people will disagree with this opinion, and that's okay. Everyone reads a book differently, and I am pleased people are enjoying this novel; however, Plot Twist fell short for me. So, why have I rated this book so highly if I disliked it so much? The writing! Bethany Turner's ability to keep me locked in place until the end is something to admire; she is the queen of anticipation and unexpected outcomes. The way she welded the story to keep readers wanting more was incredible! I have never had such a love/hate relationship with a book that made it impossible to stop reading! From morning until night, I was glued to the screen, and that alone deserves my praise!

*Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a pre-release copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are entirely my own!*

Oh my goodness, I could not put this book down! Why, oh, why do we have to sleep anyways?
Bethany Turner's latest, Plot Twist, is a super entertaining rom-com full of pop references, heartache and laughter. Perfect plot-twist ending and totally needs to be made into a movie, George Clooney and all!
Enjoy this for pure entertainment value and escape between the pages of, PLOT TWIST.
I recieved an advanced readers copy through NETGALLEY. My opinion is my own.

Thank you so much for Netgalley and the publisher for giving me this E-Arc.
So at first I was not able to get into the book and I decided to DNF it and even decided to drop it but then again I picked it up somehow and when I read more and more I started to like it! As in the title this one have plot twist in it and it's a fun and quick read! If you're looking for some fun and fast reads for a weekend then this one is the one for you!

I’m wondering if maybe I misread or misremembered the description of this book before I started it, because it honestly wasn’t anything like what I was expecting. I’ve read just a couple of Bethany Turner’s books so far and I absolutely loved them! They were hilarious and sweet and so down-to-Earth. This one . . . it’s funny, in places. I loved Olivia’s relationship with her best friend, Fiona. But it just wasn’t quite my cup of tea, I suppose.
Have you ever tried that tea (or insert treat here) that your friend just goes on about how great it is and you try a sip and keep the smile on your face, while wondering if you’re tasting the same thing? That’s kind of how I felt about this book after around maybe chapter 5. The beginning was hilarious! I called my husband while I was still reading chapter 1 and had to read part of it to him, I was laughing so hard. And the next couple chapters were funny or intriguing. But honestly, the further I read, the more I just felt bad for Olivia. She has such a poor self-image and spends half of the book wallowing in it, and using it for the reason she isn’t happy. She spends the other half trying and failing to not obsess over the happenings of one day in 365. I do admire her loyalty to Fiona and her desire to see her friend have the best. But even in that, Olivia is frequently sabotaging herself, as though her happiness is never worth as much as her friend’s. I don’t want to spoil anything, but I also want to add that it taking 10 years for her to figure out her love-life seemed a bit much.
I don’t want to be so down on this book. I know the author spent a great deal of time on this story and I appreciate that, truly.
I did finish it and I’m glad at how it closed, but I also probably could’ve just skipped to the end and been okay with that. I know several fellow readers who have greatly enjoyed this story, so if you’re reading this, please don’t let it be your only perspective on this one. Make sure you get another opinion on this tea, okay?
*My thanks to the publisher for my copy of this book! I was not required to write a review, positive or otherwise, and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.

Plot Twist by Bethany Turner
I adored this book! It was the perfect romantic comedy. Clever writing, hilarious moments, jaw dropping moments (it is titled Plot Twist 😉) and sweet moments that brought tears to my eyes.
Starting on February 4th, 2003, Olivia meets a handsome stranger at a coffee shop and they promise to meet back at the same coffee shop in ten years. The rest of the book takes place on all the February 4ths until 2013 and follows Olivia through the ups and downs of her 30s.
I loved Olivia, she was relatable and charming. Her relationship with best friend Fiona was so wonderful to read about: a normal, complicated but lifelong friendship. The whole story was surprising and fun.
I’m excited to check out what else @seebethanywrite has written as I loved her style.
This is out on June 15th! Thank you to @netgalley and @thomasnelson for my copy.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the eARC for review!
Plot Twist is an appropriate title, because after the first chapter, I was certain I would hate this book. And guess what? I freaking loved it.
on February 4, 2003, when Olivia Ross meets a handsome actor in a coffee shop, they struck a deal - they will meet back at the coffee shop in 10 years, he will be a big star and she'll have written a movie, and they'll make it together. And on every February 4 since, serendipitous things happen to Olivia - new loves, old loves, celebrity run-ins, grand charity balls. There's no escaping the magic of the day, so she may as well go along for the ride.
This book wasn't like I expected. my initial reaction was fury, because the first chapter got me riled up. Olivia meets this handsome stranger in a coffee shop who jumps in to help her when some cowboy who's hitting on her won't take no for an answer. And despite his good intentions, this handsome stranger keeps trying to be her white knight, even after she tells him several times that she doesn't need his help. When she finally decides to play along and they manage to convince the sleazy cowboy hitting on her that the two are together, this stranger - out of own amusement - keeps her playing along despite her attempts to extricate herself from the situation and leave. Yes, really!! She says they must be going, and her "white knight" keeps drawing out the uncomfortable encounter. You have no idea how relieved I was that this guy wasn't actually the leading man of this book.
Suffice to stay, me and Plot Twist did not get off on the right foot. But after this chapter, it was virtually smooth sailing. I loved the story. I loved Fiona and Olivia's friendship. I loved the romance. I loved the cheese. The only thing I didn't really love was Olivia herself, and it's only because we only ever see her on this one day a year that is all about her, so she comes across a bit self-absorbed. I found myself disagreeing whenever Fiona and Liam would talk about how wonderful Liv was, because I just didn't see it.
She got better, of course. As she gets closer to 40, she obviously becomes a bit more mature. As we see her interact with more and more characters on February 4, we do get to fill in the context of her character. And for all her lack of self-awareness, she was pretty selfless when it came to her friends. Most importantly, I was rooting for her in the end (and what a satisfying plot twist we got!)
My heart swelled with this book. I wanted to crawl inside its pages and live in a world where this sort of thing can happen.
I'm docking one star for that first chapter alone. But a really cute read.

I love all the pop culture references in this book. As a millennial, I appreciate this. This is a quick and fun read, perfect for a relaxing weekend. I love the unique spin on this book, and I definitely recommend. And yes, there is a great plot twist.

Before I get to the review, I want to say a quick thank you to NetGalley and the publishers over at Thomas Nelson for giving me a copy of this one in exchange for an honest review. Plot Twist is about a chance encounter between an up and coming actor and a screenwriter at a coffee shop. They agree to meet back at the coffee shop ten years later after they had both honed their craft to make a movie together. But a decade is a long time and there’s a lot of life that can happen. It’s an adult contemporary romance that is coming out on June 15th and is available for pre-order now.
I have been reading more romance over the past few years, but romance isn’t a genre I tend to gravitate toward, but when I saw the premise I had to request it. The premise reminded me a lot of One Day in December by Josie Silver. And I think fans of One Day in December will really enjoy this book. We follow the screenwriter through the chance encounter and the 10 years following. And I think the thing I enjoyed the most about those years was the realistic way Olivia’s life flowed. I see so many romance books where everyone has their crap together constantly and it gives me anxiety about my own life. But Olivia and her roommate Fiona are just figuring it out as they go along. The author spends a decent amount of time also exploring the friendship between Olivia and her roommate Fiona which I loved seeing because a lot of the time the friends are pushed to the side in a romance story. I also really enjoyed Olivia’s growth during the book. I think she’s got a lot of hang ups about her life and her self-esteem is pretty much garbage, but by the end of the book she has come to terms with these aspects of herself. I also really enjoyed Liam as a character. I agree that he’s not the Perfect Love Interest. He’s just a guy doing his best. We also really had a slow burn romance throughout the novel and a lot of will they/won’t they which I loved.
I think the thing I didn’t particularly love about this one was how quick the end went. I think the build up through the decade was good and there are so many scenes I want to live rent free in my head. But that ending came out of no where and was gone so fast. I felt like I needed a little more resolution or a little more sweetness given everything that everyone has to go through.
This is a cute and quick romance novel that will put you right in your feels. I think it feels perfectly at home with a summer release since it’s set in L.A. And it’s just a lot of fun.

With the way the world has been lately, it was such a relief to find a rom-com that truly took me away on a journey that spans the course of a decade. Oliva Ross has a pretty mundane life writing greeting cards for the Heartlite company that provides a certain type of stability, which she appreciates. Her best friend Fiona's life is far more glamour filled and Olivia likes it that way. Her boyfriend Liam is swoon worthy, but their relationship is more complicated than it might first appear. Life in LA is unpredictable and often inexplicable for Olivia and her circle.
A series of crazy events are set in motion that will spur Olivia on to fulfill the dream she's had for some time--writing her own screenplay. The beginning of the book sets up the dominos for the years to follow, so while it might seem overwhelming at first with details, STICK with it! Trust me, it gets even better as time progresses. I hate to give too much away, because once you think you've got it all figured out...there's yet another PLOT TWIST! There's lots of laughter, struggles, real life issues and relational drama around every corner.
Fans of Turner's work will appreciate the subtle nods to pop culture, relationships with depth and dimension, and the twist of the unexpected. If you've read any of her earlier works, you have an idea of what to expect...but "Plot Twist" reveals a bit more maturity. There is not a clear faith journey for these characters, but it is a clean fiction read. (For those that care to know, there are a few mentions of alcohol and a character drinks, but it is only during one portion of the book.)
This book is a great summer escape read. You will lose track of time and possibly lose sleep if you try and finish this one before bed.
I was an early reader, thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own

The premise of this book sounded so good. I loved the idea of this book taking place on the same day every year. But unlike other books with the same premise, this one left me wanting more. I wanted to know the in-between or what happened with Olivia over the past year. There seemed to be a lot missing year to year that I wish the author would have expanded more on.
The first encounter didn’t seem to justify this intense connection and or pinning that Olivia had manifested in her head. It was a nice meet-cute, but to dwell on it for a full year seemed a bit much. There was something missing with the story to where it couldn’t hold my attention. I couldn’t connect with Olivia or the story because I found Olivia a hard character to relate too. The writing style felt a bit dry and lacking emotion that would have connected the reader to the story.
Overall I wanted something more than what was delivered. I think this book had all the potential to be an adorable RomCom, but something was missing from the final product. Thank you to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for this ARC

Plot Twist had a fun premise and I flew through it. I found it to be a nice easy read, getting through big chunks of it quite quickly. This would be a perfect light read, one to pack for a holiday for sure. I can’t say I loved it, as it was a bit too cliched at times but overall it was fine!
