There are lions in this book.
I confess I was guilty of not reading the description and expected this book to be a book like Shhhhh or a suspense book. It is actually one of the Bible stories packed with the most suspense, told in a way that adds more suspense and encourages children to read, enjoy, absorb and remember this famous story.
The story is told in a clever format that engages the listener by asking direct questions and directly speaking to them, this works especially well in reading stories out loud so this book would be excellent to read out loud to Bible study groups, Sunday schools or at initiatives such as Messy Church.
There’s also the clever addition of a cheeky mouse egging you on, by telling you not, to turn the page. This reverse psychology works well with children and adds a humour aspect to the book.
The illustrations help children with the understanding of the story, they are clear and detailed. The story is told in a really easy to digest format too.
This book was not what I was expecting at all but it’s does what it aims to really well and is very enjoyable. Clever and well executed, it makes Bible stories fun and accessible to children, which in my eyes is vital in a world where children are immersed in video games and high speed animations and need novel approaches to engaging and sustaining their attention.
Thank you to Netgalley and B&H kids for the wonderful opportunity to read this book.

There Are Lions in This Book!
by Dandi Mackall
Back of the Book: “Children love to feel empowered—even while reading books! So, when a narrator of a book comes along to warn the child not to turn another page, what will they do? This is the kind of adventure that Dandi Daley Mackall invites her readers into in There's a Lion in This Book!
In this clever take on the Daniel in the lions’ den story, a narrator mouse continually warns the reader not to turn the page, lest they find what Daniel eventually found—terrifying, hungry lions! As this exciting and engaging story unfolds, children ages 4 to 8 will learn what actually happened to Daniel in the Bible while being thoroughly entertained in the process.
Impressions: I loved this book. The story and illustrations were so fun. It was so entertaining to read the very real story of Daniel with the side of humor of the mouse. The little mouse added to the suspense of the story even though my boys know this story. For reference, my boys are 5 and 9 years old.
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review shared here.

This children's book is a cute telling of Daniel in The Lion's Den with an added feature of a little mouse warning you of the lions you will encounter in the story. It reminded me of Theres a Monster at the End of This Book. The illustrations were colorful and engaging. I would recommend this book for any child, especially those who love Bible stories!

As soon as I began to read this Bible story I could not help but laugh at how the mouse tried to stop us from reading what comes next. It is the comic relief that helps children laugh, and remember the story of what happened to Daniel. So please, read ‘There are Lions in this book’, it will make you laugh, your children think, and most importantly make you want to read it agin.

If you want a kid to do something, tell him not to. In this rendition of Daniel in the Lion's Den, your children will learn how faithful Daniel was however, in each page a friendly mouse is urging you not to turn the page because "There are lions in this book". It can be scary book for children but with faith it takes true courage just like Daniel to face your fears.
A special thank you to B&H Kids and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Such an entertaining book! This is the story of Biblical Daniel who was thrown in the lions' den. Of course it is scary for the little mouse who kept us from turning the pages, because there are lions in this book. But, we all know that our God is way more powerful than lions!!
This is also a reminder to me, an adult, that we might face dangers. We might have to walk to "lions' den" and we realized that there's no way out, we are doomed. But we forgot that we serve a wonderful God who shut the lions' mouth and leave Daniel be. Well, we will have to face those lions, nevertheless we are saved in the arms of Jesus.

A cute retelling of the biblical story of Daniel in the lion's den. It did feel a bit derivative from "The Monster at the End of This Book", but that familiarity is part of what will appeal to preschool kids. The mouse commentator is fresh and funny. The illustrations are colorful, appealing, and well-done. I especially like that the skin color of the various characters is not all the same, representing real diversity among people in the Middle East. This could easily become a read aloud favorite.

This book was cute and a unique way to explain the story of Daniel and the Lions Den from the Bible. I will say though I did get kinda distracted at times by the warnings of lions being in the book even though I know that it was a purposeful part of the book it did take me out of the story.

With a hilarious little mouse warning that there are lions in this book, you will read the story of Daniel in the Lions' Den in a way you haven't before.

This is the story of Daniel in the Lions' Den with a cute mouse narrator. It has a different feel from other more typical tellings because the mouse warns the reader about the lions, and then reacts to the story when it is different from what was expected. A fun variation!

There Are Lions in This Book! by Dandi Mackall is a fun retelling of the story of Daniel, meant for children ages 4 to 8. This book comes with good illustrations and, what was the best to me, a retelling of the story of Daniel in a great way that I think is very understandable for young children. There is a mouse narrator, who warns the children about lions that are coming. This can be fun for young children, though the mouse narrator was more a little annoying to me. Still, this is the best, most understandable retelling of the story of Daniel I have read.

The story in this book is very good, unfortunately I find that i can't get it to read correctly on my android device with the pages being cut differently. This makes it very hard for children. I hope that the final book have this sorted out.

“There Are Lions in This Book” tells the biblical story of Daniel. This tale is one that many children have have heard in church however, they may not know the true meaning. Dandi Mackall is able to put the story into a format that children will be able to understand. However, the mouse character at the beginning of her story was confusing. I had hoped that the character would tell readers what to watch out for. It became apparent after a few pages but the reader would have had better clarity if the fear of lion was stated early on.
I recommend this story book to any child starting out and learning about faith. The message of Daniel is a powerful one and may make an impact on young reader’s lives.

I don't think there can be too many children's books on Bible stories....at least good ones. And this was a good one. It's entertaining and simple for kids to understand. And the little mouse narrator is too cute. I love how he is warning them away from reading the scary parts with lions...but then is shocked when the story "takes a surprising turn." And the illustrations are BEAUTIFUL.

There Are Lions in This Book! is a cute and fun retelling of the Bible Story, Daniel and the Lions Den. The book has wonderful illustrations. The story was told from a mouse's perspective and the Mouse would always warn the reader that lions were coming and to be careful. This book would be perfect to read in a Christian classroom setting or as part of a family devotional. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. (This review is also on GoodReads.)

I really enjoyed this book and the illustrations are just wonderful.
The book was a clever and different way to tell the story of Daniel and the Lion's Den to children.
The book was well written and easy to follow and I loved the mouse with his warnings as you turned the pages - but things were not quite as the seemed in the end - a great re-telling for a new generation.
It is 5 stars from me for this one - very highly recommended!

A clever way to tell the story of Daniel and the Lion's Den to children. The main text of the book is a great retelling of that story, but on the side there is a little mouse who is warning you about the scary lion content and then reacting when it maybe didn't turn out like he thought.

Classic Daniel in the Lion’s Den with great illustrations! The kids will really enjoy looking at the pictures. There is a funny mouse who tries to get you not to read further. Parents can play it up with the mouse character and get the kids to beg them to read more… which will had to the fun. Perfect way to introduce Bible stories to the littles!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley on behalf of the Publisher and was under no obligation to post a favorable review.
