This is an excellent book for anyone interested in Fae Magick. Sanchez not only shows us how the Fae have adapted to urban living over the ages, but also includes some excellent information on the Fae in general. Beginners will find this easy to understand. As someone who's both a witch and a writer considering writing something related to the fae, I really enjoyed this book. I haven't been practicing the Craft for long, so it was a very useful read to introduce me to the fae, especially because it's kind of hard to find sources that aren't about "you should be terrified to work with the fae in special", for me, at least. I don't think I'll work with them as of right now, but many pieces of information on this book will be floating around my head for a good while.

Urban Faery Magick: Connecting to the Fae in the Modern World by Tara Sanchez is an intriguing read for believers and non believers alike. Meet dozens of faeries that have adapted to the modern world and can be found in the most unexpected places. Urban Faery Magick introduces you to these mystical beings, providing tips and techniques for interacting with them as you travel your own spiritual path. Author Tara Sanchez explores dozens of case studies and shares her own personal stories of fae encounters, uniquely associating each faery with one of the elements from Eastern or Western traditions. You will learn about the Zaragoza goblin, Jon the Rust Spirit, Jenny Green-teeth, the Santiago Park Pixie, and many more. This book also includes dozens of hands-on exercises, including traditional Celtic practices, chants, invocations, breath work, dowsing, scrying, and interpreting signs as you discover the important lessons the fae can teach us.

Urban Faery Magick shows readers how to look at the world with the hope of seeing fae, and what to do if it happens. I think this book will appeal to three types of readers. Those who absolutely believe in the fae, that that really want to, and those that are just simply fascinated with the lore and experiences of others even if they do not really believe. I thought everything was well presented and was presented in a way that was accessible to all readers. The idea of connecting with and working with the fae might be a bit much for some, but the idea of being more aware of the world around you and listening to your instincts about the larger world- and being safe in your choices- is good for all of us to remember. I liked that caution, awareness of our own health as well as others, and how people have impacted everything were highlighted in the book. I thought the case studies and personal experiences of the author were well done, and the inclusion of lore from around the world was nice. While the table of contents was very helpful when I wanted to go back and find a segment I wanted to reread, and the suggested reading list at the end of the book was a nice addition. I would have loved a detailed index and a short glossary or listing of mentioned fae with basic information at the end of the book, rather than just as part of the chapters.

Urban Faery Magick is the perfect book for those that want to connect to the fae, and other spirits of the world in a meaningful way. For those curious about the practice and lore of doing so it is an engaging read.

Connecting to the Fae When Not in Nature

As one who lives in a suburban place very near to beautiful natural settings, the topic of this book intrigued me when I saw it at one of my favorite book review sites. While I enjoy being out in nature when I can, it isn't always possible or feasible. I love how this author discusses how we can still appreciate the fae even in an urban setting (or suburban in my case!). This book is chock-full of exercises and meditations to help you connect with the fae in an urban setting; this is the strongest point of the book. You can tell the author has experience with the topic, and she has an easy-to-read writing style. If you've worked with the fae before, some topics she discusses will already be well known to you, but the author explains everything so well that this book would even work well for someone who is relatively new to faery magick. If your form of spirituality resonates with or involves the fae world, you will most likely appreciate this well-written book.

Urban Faery Magick provides a different take on working with the Fae. The author tells of how you can still connect with them even in city environments. It also suggests ways of aligning with the land before you try to work with any Fae inhabiting the area. I would recommend this for anyone first starting to work with, or generally curious about Faery Magick. Or those who want a different take than the average book on the topic.

A good book with different ways to connect with the fae and types of fae. A number of different exercises to help connect and expand their connection.

As someone who has been practicing Fae Magick for a few years, this book just became one of my top recommendations for people new to the practice.
It is a very interesting modern twist and approach for those who lead their lives in urban areas but still love this nature centered practice. Most of what is taught in the chapters are things that many urban practitioners do intuitively, which the author admits - and even recommends. It's always refreshing whenever witchcraft books admit there isn't a set way to do magick and that it is mostly following our gut.
The best thing in this book are the exercises. Many spiritual books focus too much on theory when witchcraft is practical in its essence. Urban Faery Magick not only teaches about urban Fae, how to deal with them and how they have been portrayed in stories, like many other faecraft books, but provides numerous exercises throughout the chapters, from the most basic meditation to entering faery portals. These come both from previous practices, myths and the author's own experience.
It offers also many ways to categorize Fae, and doesn't simplify them, but rather explains all their complexities.
The most fascinating part was the author's interpretation of urban Grafitti as possible faery portals - which is a wonderful modern twist on the portals we already knew and makes sense, being Grafitti the art forever tied to the city, much like urban Fae are. I've identified a few Grafitti faery portals around my own country, Portugal, thanks to this book.
Sanchez covers both the basic and advanced Fae Magick , with modern interpretations and well written exercises and explanations that even those not knowledgeable in witchcraft will understand.
In conclusion, Urban Faery Magick by Tara Sanchez is now one of my favorite Fae Magick books (and possibly even one of my favorite Witchcraft books). I cannot wait to add a physical copy to my shelf.

Although I was really looking forward to this book, I was a little disappointed. Although there is a lot of information, much of it seems to be fairly common knowledge. That said, I did enjoy that it was all gathered in one place. There were a number of interesting ideas that I hadn't considered. I can see this book being helpful for people who are new to the idea of the fae existing around us, or as a reference for fantasy novelists.

I was instantly drawn to the concept of Fae adapting to urban settings and how that might change interactions between them and people. As a writer of fiction, just the description sent my creative mind spinning. This book starts with the presumption that the reader believes in Fae and is looking for ways to start an interaction in a modern, urban, less natural setting. There is an abundance of Fae tradition/facts, tips, warnings, etc that are all useful and a lot of new ideas for urban dealings in particular. A great addition to your magic library.

I'll be honest, I had some what of a difficult time getting into this despite having been anticipating this particular book. It's an interesting concept to be sure but I have a hard time in agreeing with the thought of the Fae adaptation to an urban setting.

With that said, the author makes great points and their thoughts are interesting. It is also well written and I can appreciate this work for what it is. I look forward to purchasing a copy at some point in the near future.

There are alot of interesting ideas & points in this book as well as a wealth of information meticulously put together here. A good reference book here for thoughts on Fae & many things about Fae & quality content about items related to Fae [love my stones]. I feel there are many nonFae entities that can be confused with Fae or the term is much more blanket than I see it. Nature entities abound everywhere & feel that spirits can also be brought to areas when a large segment of the people have settled from areas that they originally existed. Urban squalor has also overtaken areas they used to exist en masse also. There is an area here in the US that is filled with Fae magic I used to live along with a ton of other spirits & it was incredible. Here now in this area different than that one many other spirits reign but Fae can be called in that is more people specific.

I keep an open mind when I read books about 'fairies' or 'the other people'. This one intrigued me in the introduction as it mentioned two magicians with whom I'm very familiar that the author knows and I couldn't help but wonder if I might have run across her at a picnic or other event sometime without knowing her.

Unlike some books on this subject, the book doesn't try to convince the reader that fae, spirits, or whatever you choose to call them exist. Belief is pre-supposed. I like that. It defines the target audience clearly. The primary focus is on the adaptations these spirits have made to assimilate a changing landscape as the urban world increasingly infringes on nature's landscape. This is something I first read about in Jaq D. Hawkins' Elemental Spirits series, though Sanchez's book is specifically about those urban fairies rather than all nature spirits.

There were some things I didn't quite agree with, like she classifies all of these entities as Seelie or Unseelie which is specifically a concept from Scottish folklore that wouldn't apply elsewhere. However, the spirit of how she perceives the fae is close enough and there are loads of exercises for attempting to raise your own awareness of them or to attract them.

Like most books on the subject, it does push belief at times but overall it doesn't go as far off the rails as many new age fairy books.

Yet again any books involving fae I have to pick up. I love how this book brings the fae to the modern world. I highly recommend this if you have any interest in the fae.
