Although not Heathen myself, there is much I learned and much I can utilize in my own magical practice. This book was well researched and written in an easy-to-understand manner. I will definitely be referencing it in the future. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

As a reader that has very limited knowledge of Heathenry but a love Icelandic folklore and nature worship, I found this book to be very comprehensive without being overwhelming. Cat Heath has a poetic style of writing that is both lovely and engaging. I found the detailed descriptions regarding the reconstruction of period rituals to be credible and thoughtful. It is evident that Heath has poured love, tremendous effort, and conscientious research into this work. I enjoyed reading this book and learning more about the art of seiðr.

I have only a beginner’s knowledge of Heathenry, so I was in way over my head within a few sections. This is not a book for beginners, which the author even states in the introduction. I think this would be a very valuable addition to the library of someone who has solid intermediate knowledge of Heathenry. There is some fascinating information here if you are a practitioner of Nordic spirituality. I think the exercises are definitely geared towards the intermediate to advanced practitioner because the author alludes a couple of times to the fact that this type of work can be dangerous.

I would recommend this to anyone who has an interest in intermediate-level Nordic spirituality or anyone trying to get a feel for what studying that practice in more depth would be like. It’s a little out of the reach of someone who is only a beginner or just wants an overview.

I wish I would have had this book many years ago. For many reasons Elves, Witches and Gods represents a turning point in my opinion. Finally a book that tells what to do, how to do it, and what to expect. The authors are not armchair heathens . They go out and really do the work of connecting with the Divine that others think cant be done. The experiences given are well written and I couldnt put the book down. I have wondered about how the practices once thought lost would look like if tried again. I found out that sitting out on the mound is still being done. Not only being done but getting noticed by the Divine. My favorite part of this book is the explanation of the Goddess as experienced by the author. I finally understood what could be behind the Goddess of many peoples and how she is relevant to todays people. I cannot stress how important this title is IMO to people wanting to deepen their experiences with the Old Gods in a safe and doable way. What to expect as well as spiritual hygiene is discussed. Being in a good state of mind and approaching this with respect are talked about and why its important to do so.The authors have done what has been talked about for years and now is finally available. The lessons given are practical and in a sequence that makes sense in a profound way. This is a classic that is finally here. Excellent.
