This was just an ok read.
It was ok to while away a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon.
It was ok if the reader is looking for an easy read.
It was ok if you like fade to black rather than steamy scenes.
It was just ok!

Man, I REALLY loved this book. It's a quick read but it's not fluffy in the least, and it's definitely not a silly rom-com (though it is funny and romantic). If you can make it through this one without sobbing, I'm impressed. I can't wait for more from Laura Jane Williams - she's quickly becoming one of my favorites!

I really enjoyed this one - it was a great story and good characters with complexity, but also a cute love story and just what I needed for an escape. Overall a great book, highly recommend.

This book was such a joy to read!! My first by Williams but it was good enough to convince me that I should be reading one of her other books soon.

The honeymoon section of this book was really good- the fade to black nearly zero steam was disappointing but some people like their romances very vanilla so that’s ok. I tried to get into this one a few times and I think it’s because it takes too long to get to the good stuff. And then after the honeymoon when the problems started “arising” (I use quotes because there were no new problems - only old ones that the characters decided to start addressing finally?), Patrick did a total 180 and the author left it like he was being reasonable but I sure wouldn’t have put up with non-honeymoon Patrick. Basically I liked the middle of this book a lot but even it could have done with even a bare minimum of steam. The beginning and end just weren’t very satisfying.

This was definitely one of the best books I have read this year... I did managed to finish this book within a few hours. It was captivating and difficult to put down.

Complementary copy given for my honest review and opinion.
Slow start to this book but it picked up some. It’s a cute read with minimal depth. A nice back porch read.

The blurb made me super excited to read this book, but unfortunately it fell flat for me. I just was not intrigued by this book at all and I had to DNF at 20%. I didn’t have the patience to keep pushing through.

This book is about a lucky escape.

Annie is jilted at the altar by Alexander her University sweetheart. She ends up meeting Patrick at the gym who she used to know as a teenager. Her future in laws ask her to go on the honeymoon they had paid for their son and her. Annie & Patrick go out for a drink together to catch up and on the spur of the moment ask him to go with her.

The characters are very engaging and it is the usual rom com Will Annie & Patrick end up together only time will tell.

This was an overall enjoyable read. It started quite slow and I was concerned initially that I wouldn’t be able to ge to to it, but it picked up pace and I found it a lovely lighthearted romance.

Unfortunately this book just wasn't for me. For the first maybe 60%, I was considering DNFing.

It just felt so long and I really wasn't a fan of the nicknames like Freddie Frou and Froogle.

However, the last 40% really saved this book, it became more interesting and I got more invested in the characters.

I'm sure there's lots of people that will enjoy this book, but unfortunately, I'm not one of them.

Thank you Laura Jane Williams, NetGalley & Avon Books for an eArc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have read two of Laura Jane Williams' books before, Our Stop and The Love Square, and I really enjoyed them both. The Lucky Escape was great but, for me, not really on the same level.

Firstly, the story was a little bit predictable. Annie is due to get married to Alexander and he leaves her at the altar. His parents tell her to still take her honeymoon that they paid for and she debates it.

After being on a bit of a downer, understandably after the break up of a serious relationship, she joins a bootcamp class to try and shake herself out of it. There she reconnects with Patrick, a friend who she knew from a drama group as a teenager. The two become friendly and she invites him along on the honeymoon to Australia.

The diversity feels a little bit too forced and I would have loved more fleshing out of the characters. I really liked the development of Annie's relationship with her mother and the exploration of how she felt following Alexander leaving her.

Also, the main character's name is Annie Wiig and I couldn't help but constantly imagine Kristen Wiig's character of Annie in Bridesmaids!

Although predictable, it is a nice, easy to read romance!

This story has a lot of things going on with Annie being jilted on her wedding day and an unexpected reunion with someone from her childhood. But I gotta say, the characteristics of Annie and Patrick were realistic especially at the last part of the novel.

Never thought that a lucky escape has so much heartbreaking story within them. Patrick's past had me stunned and admired him for moving forward even if its hard. Annie's development and process of moving on was admiring too. I enjoyed reading this book and its a quick read if this book is your cup of tea.

A bit too wet for me, I prefer reading something gritty and this fell flat and trivial. Nice story. Thanks for NetGalley for allowing me an early access.

I really enjoyed this light hearted novel. I found it a really easy read.

Many thanks to netgalley and Laura Jane Williams for the advanced copy of this book. I agreed to give my unbiased opinion voluntarily.

This was a fun, simple and easy read. If you’re after an in-depth storyline, this isn’t for you, there aren’t any twists and turns! It had the emotion though and plenty of humour to help the story flow.

This book is the romance of the year for me! Loved it! I felt all the emotions as the story unfolded. I rooted for Patrick and Anna, hated Alexander (and was glad he was only given a small part of the story).. You could just feel the pull between Patrick and Anna, and couldn't wait to see when they would both realize and act upon their attraction.

I'm a sucker for jilted at the alter stories (love me some angst) - so I was pretty excited to pick this book up. Unfortunately, I just couldn't get into Annie and Patrick - I think part of that has to do with some dialogue being a bit clunky, and otherwise I just couldn't feel chemistry between them. I found the pacing/plot to be uneven and I found Annie's internal monologue to be monotonous.

This was surprisingly cute. I wanted to try another book by this author since I wasn't a big fan of her previous one.
I'm so happy that I did! The MC is relatable and that's always a plus!
