Though tormented by the death of his first wife, Viscount Sterling needs an heir. He invites six eligible young ladies to a house party, planning to choose a bride from among them.

Lady Angelica isn't romantic. She has no desire to marry. But since the death of her father, she and her mother are falling into straitened circumstances. A good match will save Angelica's family home.

From the time she arrives at the house party at Colchester Hall, Angelica feels a strange presence around her. Despite the attraction between her and Sterling, can she be happy living in this eerie place? And was there more to the death of the late viscountess than Sterling has revealed?

This light Gothic romance novella has well-developed characters and an intriguing plot. The brisk pacing keeps the story moving. Despite the short timeline, the romance develops gradually, driven by mutual understanding more than sensuality.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received.
