I couldn't find this book interesting. The cover is pretty and it definitely is a fast and easy read

Her turn by Allison Jones is a contemporary romance novel, it was an easy and fast read in my opinion. the main character addie has a lot of things going on when she meets her love interest. her brother had down syndrome, which was honestly most of the book. The characters were a little basic and flat. I think the writer didn't take much time putting this together. overall, yes the book plot could so good but in my honest opinion, it didn't make the cut for me. it just wasn't a book for me.

I wanted to like this one so bad, but I DNF'd at 20% ish. I was so excited to read about an author romance with her publisher, but there were a few reasons why this book didn't work for me.

1. The main reason, I couldn't stand the main character. The over use of "bitch" in reference to, well, everything just put me off completely. Her way of talking and interacting with people made me completely dislike her.

2. Lack of love for any characters. The hero was probably my favorite character but even he wasn't memorable. No character really stood out for me.

I think I just wasn't the right person for thus book sadly. Cute concept just it didn't really connect with me.

I was excited to see a feminine hero featured in this book that was in her 40s. The plot was interesting initially, and I appreciated some of the quirks from the main character. However, I did not end up finishing this book as it became a struggle for me to connect with the characters and fully appreciate the dialogue between characters. I also felt that some of the characters portrayed some stereotypes that could be perceived as offensive or harmful.

Her Turn is the story of 40 something Addie from New York who after 10 years of writing is publishing her first novel. Up to this point Addie's life has not been picturesque. Her father left when she was 10 after the birth of her brother who has Down's Syndrome. Her mother was incapable of caring for either of them so Addie raised her brother. Then when her mother passed Addie was left with an inheritance that her cousin and his wife thought they should have some of. So multiple times a year one of them would call or stop by and ask for hand out. Well now Addie's book is getting rave reviews and her family thinks they deserve more.
But Addie does have some good people on her side. She has her good friend Nina who is acting as her agent and her new publicist, Jameson. Now Addie is not like anyone the Jameson has ever worked with nor is he truly ready for her. Jameson is used to the women who are more concerned about their look and image than being a good person. While they might not want it or expect it, Addie & Jameson just might be what the other needs.
This is one of those novels that I would call a beach read or a palate cleanser. It reads really quick (like in a day or two) and is nothing really heavy. This is good if you want to ready but not think or you need something light between your book reads. While idealistic it was enjoyable enough to read. Don't think this is anything more than what I have just said.

It’s been a really stressful month and a sweet romantic comedy set in the book world seemed to be exactly what I needed. Unfortunately, this didn’t really hit the spot.

There are a ton of potentially good aspects to the book - the main character, Addie, is described as curvy, her brother has Down Syndrome - both of which are representations that we don’t see often, however, the characters, plot and romance fell flat for me. To start with, Addie is described as a size 12, and her “bigger” size is frequently brought up. When I read a line about her size 12 making her a “chubby chick”, I wanted to throw the book across the room. Size 12 is pretty average. I also spent a lot of time questioning why Addie had so much baggage that she never actually addresses and was a bit disturbed by how she easily falls in and out of friendships as they serve her. The male lead also just reeks of toxic masculinity. There was nothing romantic about him, he just came across as a jerk. And the dialogue came across juvenile at best. It was painful.

All that to say, I got sucked in by the book blurb, had some very high hopes, and was unfortunately disappointed within the first few pages. I pushed through because I suck at DNF-ing books since I always hope they will improve, but sadly, this one never did.

I was hoping to like this based off the description but this just felt flat. I didn’t connect to the characters and Addie was just really immature, obnoxious and really needed talk to a therapist. I loved Owen though. The way he looks at life is how we should all view it and he doesn’t see his “disability” as an actual disability. He can do what anyone else can and he proves that.

Jameson wasn’t my favorite but he wasn’t all that awful. He definitely had issues of his own but I don’t think he was anywhere near as bad as Addie. I of course hated Dorothy and I think her perspective wasn’t necessary because it was pretty much the same the whole time.

I thought the writing was extremely repetitive and the same weird phrases being duplicated numerous times just got annoying. I almost didn’t finish after the first 20% or so but I pushed on. I think the story had good bones but the writing needed some necessary edits to make it a hit

This was funny and adorable. Though i really really wanted to punch Dorothy, Richard and Matthew so bad. ugh. They made me so angry and frustrated - just ugh!

I loved this book. There were a few typos and thats the only reason it didn't get 5 stars. The character's were brilliant - Owen is the real star of the book let's be honest. Addie and Jameson were lovely. I loved that they both had baggage that rendered them incapable of opening up. When they overcome it thats the best kind of romance for me! I'm super excited with the extra chapter after the epilogue leading me to hope that there is going to be a sequel focusing more on some of the other characters we have grown to fall in love with.

My Feelings -

-I seriously found Dorothy and Matthew's POV totally unnecessary. It would be much better if the author gave Owen and Harrison's POV.
-First 13.5% of this book was so boring that I almost lost interest and thinking about putting it down for good. But then he enters finally.
-I liked Jameson and Addie's relationship and their banter. Lmfao! Especially the 'hello kitty' incident!
-Jameson's jealousy was swoon-worthy.
-All these sexual tension between Jameson and Addie's giving me blue vagina. They need to get laid already! "That would be Jameson's job. You all need to talk. This tango you're doing is ridiculous. He wants you. You want him. Just do the deed for the love of God." She sounds annoyed.
My point exactly, Nina. By the way, I liked her as Addie's friend.
-I feel bad for Addie as her mother messed up her mind with lots of insecurities and issues. No one should go through that.
-I feel like this is some kind of Hindi Serial because of too much dramas. One after another. It's annoying at some point. I think it made this book sort of unbelievable. The author is not smooth at her writing I think. Or maybe it's just me. But there's something about this book that's stopping me from enjoying this book completely. I can't put my finger on correctly. Could be writing or something.
-To be honest, I wanted to love Addie and Owen's relationship. But their interaction seemed forced. It seemed to me that Addie had to take care of Owen so that there'll be someone who'll love her as no one in her life stick around. Again maybe it's just me. Believe me, I feel bad for them about what both of them went through but I just can't buy their unconditional bond that was mentioned in this book about each other. Their interaction in this whole book isn't enough to convince me about that. And I'm not gonna apologize for that either.
-Sometimes a few topics mentioned over and over in this book. Irritating the hell outta me.
-I think Owen's character could be so much better. But author tried to make him something he's not.

[Thanks Netgalley for the ebook. This review is my honest opinion but just another opinion, you should read this book and judge it by yourself]
Not for me. I couldn't connect with anyone, I didn't like the heroine, the whole book felt emotionless...
The blurb seemed interesting but I didn't like the reading.

//REVIEW IN SPANISH//

Forty year old Addie has spent her life taking care of her little brother Owen, born with Downs Syndrome and her cold and uncaring mother after their father abandoned them shortly after Owen's birth. Now her mother passed away, leaving her a fortune and allowing her to live her dream of writing a novel. But when her book is published, Addie's boring life is turned upside down. All of a sudden she's forced on a book tour where her comfy yoga pants and t-shirts are abandoned for more uncomfortable but fashionable attire. And worst of all is the grumpy and brooding publicist, Jameson, who follows her around everywhere. One minute they're drawn by attraction, the next he's pushing her away. When her crazy relatives start popping up everywhere expecting a handout, it's all Addie and Jameson can do to control the chaos.
I thought this book was cute and funny. I loved Addie's brother and his sunny outlook and childish humor and the way the other characters in the book relate to him. And you can just feel the frustration and resignation Addie has toward her horrible cousin and his wife. I thought the ending was a little bit rushed but overall the book was good.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The views and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This novel by contemporary romance novel. Our main character Addie is a writer who has recently been laid off from her job. Addis is a undeveloped character through out this whole book and wasn't an interesting protagonist to follow around.

I enjoyed Her Turn as it was a fun and interesting story to read. The main character is a strong and hard working women who spends most of her time taking care of others in her life. Following her journey with her up and coming career with her new book, and watching her navigate her complicated family circle was what made the story so interesting and dynamic. All the while taking on all these aspects of her life, she also was dealing with reigniting her love life with her new publicist. The romance side of this story was really fun and had me rooting for the two characters to fall in love and make the relationship work.

I'm sorry but, for me, this book didn't quite live up to the interest that the blurb generated.

I didn't find it a particularly engaging read although the idea seemed sound. There was just 'something missing'.

Allison Jones is a new to me author and I'd certainly try another of her titles, in time.

Just not for me!

Her Turn

This book is a series of short chapters based on different people’s point of view. Addie has just finished authoring her first book and is about to embark on her first book tour. Her friend Nina, who works at a publishing house, hired a publicist to work specifically with Addie. What Nina failed to mention was that the publicist, Jameson was extremely good looking. What follows is a series of events with Addie’s life - her money hungry cousin and his shoplifter wife; her deadbeat father; secrets from her deceased mother; her flamboyant new stylist, George and her special needs brother, Owen. In the process, she begins to have feelings for Jameson. And it’s clear that he has feelings for her. But they are both too scared to move forward. Can they resolve her personal problems and learn to trust each other?
3.5 stars

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would based on the reviews I read. I do admit that the book is written with an attitude that was a bit of a turnoff for me. But after reading the author’s foreword I wasn’t surprised - she gives everyone a giant middle finger, but then thanked folks for buying her book. That attitude just seemed to rub me the wrong way as well.

I was provided this book in exchange for an honest review. The opinions above are mine without biases.

Her Turn by Allison Jones is a romance read with a nice splash of drama, emotions and loads of tears.
The book is a story about Addie who is trying to achieve her goal of writing a novel while trying to be there for her autistic brother and fend of greedy relatives.

The story seems a bit predictable with a few fresh turns here and there. There was a lot of potential in a lot of scenarios but they never reached their peak and just fizzled out.
The romance part of the book was disjointed. There was no effortless merging from one scene to another.

I feel each scenario should have been given a little more time .

I don't know how I feel about about this book. I liked the idea and the plot, and the "mistery" about Addie's past and Dorothy's involvement in it. That's what kept me reading until the end. But there is something about the characters and the story that doesn't resonate with me. They seem too far fetched and fake. There are some expressions that are used too many times and that I found irritating in the end (bitches, my lady parts, my lady bits etc..)
All in all it's a nice book, but could have been better with less repetitions and more rounded characters.

Her Turn by Allison Jones is a contemporary romance novel where we see our main character, Addie Snyder, who is a writter and has recently been laid off from her job.

She is now a freelance writer and her first novel is about to be released. Her mother recently died and has left her a good amount of money. Her nephew Matthew and his wife are both looking for the same money from Addie.

I picked up this book because of the creative and innovative blurb and the plot. The plot seems to be promising but the narrative is just very new born and not written properly. I felt like Addie was a very underdeveloped character.

Some of the words and sentences used in this book are quite offensive. She stays with Owen, who has down syndrome, and nowhere in the book this has been acknowledged properly. There were so many childish errors which makes the book off.

This is a new to me author, and when I saw the cover and read the synopsis I thought I would be right up my alley and I wasn't wrong.

The book follows Addie Snyder's and authors who first book has made her an over night sensation. She is the sole caregiver to her brother Owen who has Down syndrome. The pair are adorable and their love and devotion to each other shines throughout the book. Jamerson Ford a retired very hot Navy Seal is employed by as her publicist and the chemistry for both is off the charts. He however needs to stay professional and gives mixed signals through the book. But with fame and fortune comes gold diggers and Addie has to protect herself and Owen from those that crawl out of the woodwork. But Jamerson is never far from her side.

The characters in the book are great, I especially look forward to possible a second instalment following Nina and Harrisons story, something is definitely going on there. All in all I really enjoyed this book and will be looking out for the author in future. Who doesn't love a happy ever after?
