Disclaimer: I received an ARC, my thoughts are my own

This was such a cute comic, it wasn't clenching your belly hilarious, however it was cute and quirky. Overall I found myself reading it in 2 sittings as it was easy to put it down and pick it back up. A quick read that is sure to make you smile.
I recommend for fans of other small web comics where the story is told in a fast paced manner and is perfect between heavy reads. I loved reading these during my work breaks.

Thanks to NetGalley for giving me this advanced copy of this book, and my legitimate thanks to the author for giving me the opportunity to read his book.

Hilariously eccentric and self-aware, Alina Tysoe, the pink-haired illustrator behind the wildly popular What's Up, Beanie?, captures relatable topics like family, the awkward pains of social anxiety, sweet moments of love and a growing relationship, amusing childhood stories, and her intense love of dogs. Adorably drawn, these endearing snapshots of Alina's life are surprisingly familiar, as if they've been taken from your own life: finding solace with a lone puppy at a crowded party, the frustration of deciding what to eat for dinner, making the mistake of hitting the snooze button, accidentally stepping on a dog's foot and feeling like a MONSTER, and tons more!

Incredible book, the whole time it made me laugh, I even didn't expect that when Beanie was an adult, I thought I wasn't going to like it. Even if the two of them didn't end up together it would kill me. Figuratively, of course. But then I said, "If I don't have a relationship like that, I don't want anything."

A Heartfelt Thanks to Netgalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for making this e-ARC available to me for an honest review.

What's up Beanie is a collection of 160 coming-of-age comics with cute illustrations and an adorable main character Beanie who is just so lovable. One can say the book is in three parts as we follow Beanie from being a baby, teen, and then an Adult. Each version of Beanie is very relatable and hard not to love. I relate with Beanie in that I also love dogs and love snacks. Highly recommend!

Thanks to Netgalley and Hodder and Stoughton for sending me an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.

When I have been thinking of this book, the nickname Beanie makes me think of *this* Beanie – as in Beanie Feldstein, the actress. How great was Booksmart?

Anyway. This Beanie is artist Alina Tysoe, creator of a wholesome web comic of the same name.

I found this book very relateable and heartfelt – I could relate to Beanie a lot – from her dog obsession (same) to loving art, doubting herself in high school etc. There’s a constant theme of family that runs throughout – Baby Beanie’s flashbacks involve her sisters and parents often and it’s really sweet to see that bond consistently.

The art style is very cute – Beanie has bright pink hair and big expressive eyes (as do all of her animal friends). She captures the microexpressions of joy and disgust SO well.

I’ve screenshot so many pages of this to send to my friends – definitely a fun cute read for fans of slice of life comics, or the original itself. Or just anyone who is in their twenties, likes dogs, and finds adulting to be a lot at times 👀

I will say that the formatting of the eArc didn’t fare very well on Kindle – the panels were split up in a weird way – making things hard to follow. BUT using the Shelf App fixed this and away we went.

Really enjoyed it, do recommend for a cute fun read or a nice gift for someone that share’s Beanie’s excitement for the everyday.

incredibly cute, adorable and super relatable.
Turns out we all had similar experiences growing up, even if we thought we were the only ones (or at least the weirdos among us know feel this way).
Also, I have always and will always wanna hug all dogs.

In this hit webcomic, artist Alina Tysoe writes about life as a kid, teen, and adult, living and growing up in different parts of the world. Beanie (her cartoon alter-ego), at all stages of her life, is always ready for fun and adventure, whether that means playing with her older sisters, making up stories, eating snacks, or appreciating dogs. All the dogs, and all the great things about them (which is everything).

Fans new and old will enjoy these fun slice-of-life comics, and Beanie’s relatable struggles like moving, learning a new language, and trying to make friends at a new school. Tysoe also brings to life smaller struggles, like deciding what to have for dinner with your partner, and making phone calls (it helps to have a telephone persona!) If you love reading this series on Instagram, check out the book and enjoy never-before-seen comics!

What's Up, Beanie? by Alina Tysoe was a delightful and hilarious comic memoir about moment's in the author's childhood and how her child-self would react to her adult life. It was fantastic and relatable and lovely and I'm glad I got introduced to a new artist by this book; I absolutely loved it!!!

I’ve enjoyed the What’s Up Beanie comic strip online for a while now, a cute look at little pink-haired Beanie – sometimes as a child, sometimes older – and some ‘acutely relatable’ (as the tagline states) life situations. In this book the author takes a few of those plus a whole pile of new ones and forms them into a narrative brilliantly.

The underlying premise is 4-year-old Beanie (who is Tysoe) meeting her grown-up self and demanding to know why she’s not doing all the cool stuff she once dreamed of, like digging up dinosaurs, or – most importantly! – owning a dog or ten!

When then head back through Beanie’s life over the years, and some … well, the whole point is that they aren’t really ‘key life events’, they are such utterly normal, totally relatable events, and so many that just had me going “Yes! That!”.

As well as just being a lot of fun, the story arc was surprising well handled, and the ending was just spot on. No, no spoilers! But overall this was just the perfect tone, a real warm and fuzzy hug of a book. Goodness knows it was *exactly* what I need this week/month/year, and I cannot recommend it highly enough!

What's up, Beanie? Is a wonderful, humorous collection of comics created by the talented Alina Tysoe.

The comics, usually lasting 4 panels, tell tales from Beanie' childhood throughout to her adult life. They cover topics such as moving, social anxiety, dating, adventurous children and of course the wonders of dogs.

The comics themselves are brightly coloured but not eye-strainingly so, sure to draw the attention of children.

The stories and writing are relatable and readable to all ages.

This is a collection I'm sure the whole family would enjoy on their bookshelf.

I loved this!

I’ve actually been following Alina on Instagram for a while now and have seen some of the comics in here before, but they still made me smile. I even found myself laughing out loud to myself a couple times.
I love how relatable some of the situations were as well. I was reading and just thought “I do that!”
And the art! So cute! I really can’t wait to see if we’ll get another book like this!

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing the E-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I'm convinced Alina and me are the same person. Seriously. I've been following her on Instagram for a long time and when I saw that her book was on NetGalley, I got probably unreasonably excited. I'm so thankful for the ARC. It's a series of snapshots of Tysoe's life that are overly relatable, adorable and usually funny with a few heart-crunching ones.

Beanie tells her story to us and a time traveling toddler version of herself who wants to know where the dogs are.

I’ve been a fan of Tysoe’s art & storytelling for a couple years now, & this collection serving as a memoir is no different. Her art style is bright, distinctive, & charming, & the stories she shares of growing up are relatable. I squealed out loud at the page where she is playing King’s Quest VII with her 2 older sisters. That is something I did and enjoyed with my own two younger sisters, and seeing that, and other experiences that I could relate to just as strongly was comforting.

There were a couple instances where it seems like some panels were switched around from where they should be, but it was easy to follow the story even if I had to skip around the page a little bit.

[netgalley disclaimer]

I've been a fan of Tysoe for a while and it was nice to see this collection of Beanie comics in print. In the vein of slice of life comics, this book discusses contemporary life for the author through a particular lens --in this case herself as a much smaller child. It's a fun way to approach both nostalgia and the reflective nature of our human existence.

We learn snippets about her real life from this comic, but there is a neutral presence about location and time specifics --the author is so mysterious. One snippet that changed my perspective on how Beanie sees herself is that we learn later in this collection that English is her second language. This small revelation informs some of the cultural and experiential differences that she experiences and tosses the mysterious Tysoe into and even deeper world of mystery. To say that she leaves the reader wanting more is an understatement.

Her explorations of both youth culture from her childhood and contemporary millennial culture from today are both amusingly detailed in her charming toon vignettes.

It's definitely a must read for fans of Sarah Scribbles, Fishball, and Sarah Graley & Steff Purenins.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.

I have been reading Beanie’s comics on Tapas for over a year now. When I saw this comic book, I just had to read it. The book is collection of her comics with some new material.

I always enjoy slice of life comics. It’s relatable and familiar and Alina Tysoe’s comic is exactly that. I laughed out loud, it’s that funny. I will be looking forward to her future works!

Eccentric and self-aware, Alina Tysoe, the pink-haired illustrator, captures relatable topics like family, the awkward pains of social anxiety, sweet moments of love and a growing relationship, amusing childhood stories, and her intense love of dogs. What's Up, Beanie? is a cute and relatable series of comic. I liked the art style, I found it to be fun and enjoyable to look at. I thought the situations and mood were something most readers can relate to on some level, especially the love of animals. Getting to go through some of Beanie's childhood and adult years was fun. I liked getting to see what growing up with two older sisters, and in her family dynamic, was like and how that differed from my own- even if the key moments of embarrassment and anxiety were consistent with my own. This was a really fun and engaging collection and I really enjoyed every minute of it.

What's Up, Beanie? is a fun and relatable read for any age. Millennial Age adults will find themselves laughing at familiar scenarios from their childhood, relatable thoughts from their current daily lives, and wholesome adventures of Young Beanie versus Older Beanie.
This is truly a wholesome modern comic that depict slice of life scenarios and is an easy read for all ages. Highly recommended for high school classrooms that need more lighthearted reads to get students situated into the idea of picking up a book.
Alina Tysoe's art style is fun and her characters are engaging throughout the mini-scenarios and it continues to be a page turner in a similar way of The Peanuts, Pearls Before Swine, and Calvin and Hobbs.
Highly recommended for a quick and fun read. Definitely a good source material for classrooms related to Social Skills, American Culture, and Comics/Popular Culture.

When my days refused to end and nights refused to begin, immense solace was found in the worlds represented by animations and comics.
When my mornings saw deep calm and evenings danced with charm, my joy was enhanced by the antics of stick figures  and 2D characters.
Whatsupbeanie is one such page that has never failed to fill my heart with 'awws' that burst through and wrap me up in their warm, fuzzy cloaks.
Baby Beanie, Teen Beanie and Adult Beanie, all seem like snapshots of myself  and people I know and I can't help but marvel at the feeling of  relatibility these few strokes on paper can generate.
I've lost track of the number of times that I've shared one of Beanie's antics with a friend or family member with a message  asking ''Does this ring a bell?''
Naturally, when I saw that Alina Tysoe is releasing a book with her most popular strips along with new exclusive ones, I was itching to get my hands on it.
The book is as adorable as the instagram page, if not more.  Baby,Teen and Adult Beanie are all part of it and her antics with her parents and sisters, her immense love for dogs, her anxieties as a teen, her observations as a twenty-something  have all been structured and presented extremely well.
I'm glad that  Beanie will reach a lot more people through this format and spread more cheer around the world.

I would definitely love to have this  book on my bookshelf to give a few smiles to whoever visits it.
Thank you, Netgalley and the publishers for an e-Arc of this.
