I have say this book I am a little on the fence because I am not sure it is a thriller, as I am used to reading. I liked that there was some mystery in this book but I was not grabbed like I wanted to be. I think the title is unique in the fact that it represented a few different ways the word homewrecker can be used or thought about. I think for me the book fell a little off with the mystery part. I did like some of the characters but for me the book in some parts were just not believable. *This book was given to me for free at my request from NetGalley and I provided this voluntary review.*

So good!!

Description
They say it is quietest in the eye of a storm...they lied.

Bronwyn’s mother is late. Again. Sitting on the edge of the sidewalk, waiting, Bronwyn figures she’s flaked out again. She’s always flaking out. Stomping home ready for a fight, Bronwyn is met by a cataclysmic tornado heading directly toward their run-down trailer. Bronwyn barely escapes with her life. Her mother isn’t as lucky.

Enter Senator Soliday, a.k.a. Bronwyn’s estranged father, who shows up at the hospital and takes her home with him, to a family she’s never been a part of, to people who have proved again and again they don’t want her. Confused, resentful, absolutely raging, Bronwyn enters a world she’s never been privy to, while reeling from the news that her mother wasn’t killed by the tornado but murdered.

Torn between two identities: the daughter of a single drug addict and the middle child of a well-respected senator, Bronwyn is forced to navigate through this new, unfamiliar life alone and with a gut feeling she can’t shake.

Her mother’s killer isn’t unfamiliar.

I put off reviewing this for a looonnnggg time because honestly I wasn't sure how to put whiplash into words. Was this supposed to be a thriller or mystery? More like an immature YA.... The characters felt flat and most of the dialogue was kinda cringe-worthy. There were some very serious topics introduced but then in the midst of exploring them, total flippancy. I would classify this book as slightly schizphrenic, as with each turn of the page I never really knew which "personality" I was going to encounter.

Homewrecker  is a family drama with a thrilling twist, totally something I love to read,  it also has a touch of romance and deals with class and identity, doesn't that just sound like a novel to devour? Even though the book tackles real, tough issues it’s also an engaging and suspenseful read.

I could reread this book any day.
I truly love Deanna Cameron's writing. Her way to make me 100% hooked since page one is amazing.

Y’all, I have been in a HUGE reading slump! I have picked up and put down book after book after book since late April. But this book, y’all this book saved me. I was hooked on this book from the moment they said Tornado!

Homewrecker is about Bronwyn. She is a 16 year old girl, living in a trailer park with her flake of a mom, when a Tornado hits not just her home, but her whole life and flips it upside down.

When she can’t find her mother after the tornado, here comes her estranged father, her Senator father who has never acknowledged her or wanted her. She’s sent to live with them until words about her mother hits.

Y’all, read this book. It’s so good and was an amazing palette cleanser for me. I loved it and highly recommend.

i'm not sure if it is just me, but i felt like the whole mystery part of this book was so rushed. like, they should have drawn it out, in a good day, not like it makes it a brick of a book. since, if you pull out the mystery more, i feel like it would just be better. and i mean, nothing made sense, and the plot was just everywhere.

and also, bronwyn really jumped to conclusions, which was annoying as hell. like, your trying to investigate a murder, i don't think you should be jumping to conclusions about everything and anything you see or for one of your clues. and then, in the end, it just like worked out for her. which, was very unbelievable.

there was also just so much going on. like, we had the whole mystery plot line, and they always talked about this mystery. and then there was some family drama sprinkled in there, and on top of all of that, there was some stupid love story. and it was just so all over the place, and not in a good way.

and, from reading the description, you can kind of figure out some of the tougher topics, drug addiction, poverty, dad left you, affairs, addiction, loss of a parent and home, murder. but, they literally aren't good. like, it could have been powerful and like an actual good story about her overcoming it an just talking about her struggles, but it literally wasn't like that at all.

I enjoyed reading this book. It’s about a girl named Bronwyn who lives with her mom until one day a tornado kills her and has to move in with her dad’s family. Until she realizes her mom didn’t die from the tornado but was murdered. I enjoyed this new story which I felt was unique to add in a natural disaster to the story of a murder. The setting was well done and very imaginable with flowy writing. The pacing was great and I enjoyed seeing the different viewpoints of the main character having a wealthy family now vs her old past life with her barely having money for necessities. It was nice to see that viewpoint of current life situations in this book. A problem I had with this book was that the mystery was a little weak as I already guessed who possible killed Bronwyn’s mom.

The main character Bronwyn, goes through a lot in this book. She kind of annoyed me a little at some points but also it was understandable why she was acting the way she was. It was nice to see her develop through out the story by letting her new family into her live. The side characters were also greatly written and I enjoyed knowing about Bronwyn’s new family who were very accepting of her. It was nice to see Bronwyn making friends that help her grow throughout the story. The murderer was greatly written but a little easy to predict in my opinion. There is romance in this book and I thought it was very cute between the couple.

The ending was well done and you can see the huge development from the beginning till the end. I’m a sucker for great developments in a book and it was just nice to see Bronwyn being accepted and cared for. I had little problems with this book though I have to say it was greatly written and a book that I binge read fast because of the writing. I recommend reading this book as I think you, the readers, will enjoy it very much.

I liked this one okay enough, but the actual mystery part felt really rushed. Bronwyn really jumped to conclusions a lot and somehow it just ended up working out for her. Overall it was a decent quick read. Thanks to Netgalley for the digital copy.

⭐⭐⭐

The thrilling new mystery by Wattpad's Deanna Cameron, for fans of One of Us is Lying and A Good Girl's Guide to Murder.

Bronwyn Larson's life has literally been torn apart. An EF4 tornado ripped through their trailer park and her mom is found dead, miles away after the storm.

Suddenly, her estranged senator father is a part of her life, who's been absent since Bronwyn was born as a product of her parents' secretive affair. After living alone with her mother in a trailer for seventeen years, Bronwyn now has a stepmother and four new siblings, including an older brother and sister who seem skeptical, if not actually disproving, of Bronwyn living with them.

While staying with them in their vacation lake house, Bronwyn is hit with the bombshell that her mother's death is being treated as suspicious, with injuries inconsistent of being killed during the tornado. Bronwyn doesn't know who trust or who to believe about her mother's death.

Torn between her life as the daughter of an addict and of a well-respected senator, Bronwyn is forced to navigate through this new unfamiliar life alone, with this gut feeling she has.

Could her mother's killer be more familiar than she'd ever imagine?

I received this Arc from Netgalley for review.
I was dying to read this book, because it sounded so interesting. Who wouldn't want to read a story about a Tornado, a murder and a scandal? This book works hard to keep you engaged and invested. The relationships Bronwyn forms are so sweet and heartwarming. If you're a Sarah Dessen fan you'll love this book. I was disappointed in the ending though, i just didnt find it believable. I can't say anything else without spoilers.

I enjoyed this book greatly. The emotions that Bronwyn felt were described so well throughout the book. I also enjoyed the different conflicts Bronwyn had to face and eventually the twists that came with the truth.

This book is about complicated people and complicated situations. Bronwyn’s life as she knows it is destroyed when a tornado takes her trailer, the only home she's even known, and her mother, the only parent she's ever known. She goes to live with her absent, but very wealthy, father and his family. Throughout the transition, Bronwyn is not terribly likable and members of her family are frustrating for both Bronwyn and the reader. Still, this unlikableness makes them feel much more real and gives the story a sense of authenticity. It makes their little wins bigger triumphs and their losses greater. Altogether, this was a well-written book with enough twists to keep readers engaged.

This book has more drama than suspense. Bronwyn is a brat. Her father, who hasn't been in her life, tries to help her and take care of her after Bronwyn's mom dies. Bronwyn won't let him do that.

I received an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.

Brownyn Larson's life is completely flipped upside down when a freak tornado destroys her home. With her mother missing, Brownyn is sent to live with her estranged father and the family she's never been apart of. When her mother's body is discovered days later, the police rule it not as accidental, but as murder. Brownyn has to learn to navigate living with siblings, her father, and her stepmom while trying to uncover what really happened to her mom.

I enjoyed this book and it was a page-turner. The reader empathizes with Brownyn, even though at times she isn't the most likable character. However, it's clear to understand why she is the way she is, and the reader understands that.

When Bronwyn’s mother is late to pick her up from school, she assumes she flaked again. At the same time, a tornado hits down, and Bronwyn eventually finds that her mother is dead. But did she die in the tornado, or from something else? Enter Senator Soliday, Bronwyn’s estranged father, who shows up at the hospital and takes her home with him, to a family she doesn't know. Bronwyn doesn't know what to think and who to trust. She has a lot of anger towards her father for never caring about her, and towards her mother for the lifestyle she was subjected to.

There's a lot of depth around serious topics in this book, and I think the writing was very engaging. I found the story flowing nicely and the actions of the teens especially was very believable. I did guess the mystery early on, but for a YA book it was still well done.

The only negative was that I found it hard to believe that the Solidays would be so accepting of Bronwyn right off the bat. I know Andi had some issues with her, but everyone else was ready with open arms. I just didn't strike me as realistic but maybe there really are families like that. I enjoyed this book every much.

I really enjoyed this book. Not going to lie I thought it was going to much darker but all in all it was a very good novel. I loved the story and the mystery of it. But it also had some super sweet moments of summer and love. This would make for a great movie! A must read for YA readers.

This book has a lot of twists and turns. Bronwyn is poor. She has spent all of her life scrounging for food and living in a rundown trailer with her mom. She does have her best friend Indie to help her along the way. Her life changes when a tornado comes and blows her old life away.

Bronwyn doesn’t make very good decisions throughout the book, but she is 16 and used to taking care of herself. As usual in these types of books, nothing is what it seems. She is a little reckless. She dates a man who is 20 and does crazy things to find her mother’s killer. Her relationship with her siblings does grow which I enjoy. She does make new friends like,Ethan, who is a precious, nerdy boy.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs a quick read. It is full of twists and turns. I feel like this could be definitely read by a mature YA due to one scene.

I didn't like this book. If I was not on the hook to review it, I would have ditched it about 1/3 of the way through.

Was it a mystery? Was it a family drama? Was it a summer love story? There were many things going on and none of them were done well.

Mostly, I didn't like the characters or the writing. I felt like I was reading a book written by one of my high school students. The characters were not well defined or believable. The dialog was cringe worthy at times. It read like a middle school book that had older characters.

In the same paragraph that the characters are driving 45 minutes to confront a murder suspect's drug dealer, they are also quipping, "Jinx. You owe me a coke?" Really? While there were some really tough topics introduced - drug addiction, poverty, wealth inequality, abandonment, murder, loss of a parent, loss of a home, trying to fit in with a new family, finding a place in an entirely new setting.... None of them were addressed seriously. I felt like I had whiplash while reading this. Serious topic, some trite quip or gloss over.

Is Bronwyn going to find solace in the natural world? Is she going to morn her mother? Connect with Jude? No. She is going to dance with her summer (maybe) fling and make his dreams of writing screenplays hers? Where did that come from? I thought maybe Bronwyn would feel compelled to help her former town with the devastation from the tornado? Petition her newfound father to donate to help drug effected areas?

I can't believe that Officer Porterfield would put herself on the line with a Senator's daughter whether she planned to leave the police force or not. None of these characters really ever had any consequences for their actions whether past or present in the book.

I just found this book to be empty. I wanted it to be a fast paced mystery full of suspense and intrigue. It was not that.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC copy in exchange for an honest review!
