Great resource. Similar to a Boy Scout or survival preparedness book. It also has information on digital safety and other tidbits that could potentially be very useful. Very user friendly, easy to use, understand and would be an excellent book to have on the shelf. I would recommend an actual book instead of a digital file.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

Dr. Disaster's Guide to Surviving Everything is a very important book and one I absolutely plan on buying a physical copy. It has very practical information in bite size chunks that are easy to understand. I highly recommend the book and the information in it.

While this book is funny, the information contained within is very much not. There are lots of ridiculous scenarios that contain actual first aid information and survival tips and guidelines. I'm hoping I will remember what's needed during any emergency that comes up. It will also make a good gift for the person who has everything! One day it may save their life.

This is a very informational book. The man clearly knows what he's talking about and I think it would be beneficial for everybody in the world to read something like this if not this. Everyone could use this information because you never know when something can happen to you instead of somebody next to you. Most of us have not all of us will need some of this information before we die. And it could save many lives.

Thank you #netgalley for providing the copy for me to read and enjoy.

This book is a must-have for every situation. It talks about almost every possible scenario and leaves you prepared to deal with it. It is very complete without being boring or having a lot of technical language. I do wish I had a hard copy with me to be able to look at it in an actual emergnecy.

Thank you Netgalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for access to this arc.

A lot of what is presented is common sense information but it’s well arranged and for the most part, fairly succinct. Torres includes some real life examples of situations he’s lived through or had to help deal with as a ER medical doctor.

There are things you can do, buy, prep, and arrange ahead of time which he takes us through. He suggests lists to make that are pertinent to your situation or needs and offers both basic and involved versions of items, decisions, and details to think about to include whether for home, travel or bug out bags.

For situations in which you could find yourself in sudden, life threatening conditions – wildfire, mud slides, floods, tornadoes – he gives advice about ways to improve your odds of survival, things to beware of, and what to do when the danger is past but now you’re dealing with the medical aftermath and injuries.

Torres includes some basic first aid information given from the point of view of a doctor about what is more important and how to prioritize the order of response. There is a great deal of information about natural disasters. And then he hits the man-made incidents which, given the events of the past few years, are now unfortunately things that could happen anywhere.

We’re living in crazy times when all kinds of disasters could strike. After reading through this book, I have reinforced information I already knew, learned current thinking about some responses that have changed, and learned a few new things. I hope I’ll never need to wrack my brains to remember this stuff but if the worst happens, perhaps the nuggets I need to live through something will surface after I first take a deep breath, calm down, and then act. I received a free copy of Dr Disaster's Guide to Surviving Everything courtesy of #Netgalley, John Torres adn the publishers in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a must have for every household. Want to survive an earthquake, a lightning storm, find you way back to basecamp or just treat a run of the mill scrape or scold, this book has it all. It's a handy little survival guide to keep you going whilst your waiting for the highly trained specialists to show up.

The book is well presented with bold summaries to get to the crux of the information d=should you be in a real emergency. The text is well organised with a wealth of valuable insight.

This is the book every parent should be packing their teen off with when they leave home for college. A font of all knowledge for many a natural disaster. 5/5

A wonderfully compiled book for hard times. As natural and man made disasters continue to escalate with time, it becomes increasingly important to learn about most precarious situations we may find ourselves.
It is written by past navy soldier with experience in journalism.
It covers all important disasters and risky situations that are common.
Beauty of the book is that it is updated to latest knowledge in all the fields.
I learnt a lot of great things from it.
A highly recommend read to learn about practical life that we face and may face.
It gets you ready with must do things.

A very handy survival guide, although not that different from other ones I have read before. Would have a hard copy on hand so I could make sure I have the information I need at my fingertips.

Serious medical first aid book addresses how to handle a zombie attack
Posted on February 10, 2021 by michellelovatosbookreviews, world's first book color commentator, book reviews with a twist

When I first saw Dr. Disaster’s Guide to Surviving Everything: Essential Advice for Any Situation Life Throws Your Way, I genuinely thought it was a joke.

I’ve seen them before – disaster parody books that take something very serious and make it lighthearted fun. Those books are very amusing and usually destine for 20-something tabletops and baskets of books lining the back of the bathroom toilet bowl tank.

This one, however, actually belongs on your bookshelf under a label that reads “First Aid.”

Authored by emergency room doctor, John Torres, this text first aid book offers practical advice about common, and uncommon, disasters.

Earthquakes, blizzards, surviving hypothermia …

Dr. Disaster’s Guide to Surviving Everything is actually a whole lot more interesting as a serious book than it would be as a joke.

Dr. Torres knows his stuff and carries a great deal of weight in the medical and military worlds. He is NBC’s senior medical correspondent and a retired USAF colonel.

Next time you need to know how to evacuate somewhere – which, by the way, occurs a lot more than one might think – Dr. Disaster is the guy to consult.

If you are experiencing a cardiac arrest or suffering from choking …

Wait a minute. Both those things might need to be addressed before they occur.

But still, if consulted in the proper order, Dr. Disaster’s advice can help.

And, if zombies attack … (I am absolutely not kidding.) Dr. Disaster can help you save the day.

Torres writes that the CDC actually presented a serious post on its blog site in 2011 addressing this unusual subject.

“There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for,” Torres writes as he quotes the 2011 CDC blog, “Take a zombie apocalypse, for example. That’s right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e-a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens, you’ll be glad you read this.”

(I won’t spoil the literary tension of this statement created by continuing with this quote. You will have to buy Dr. Disaster’s book to find out what our safe and sane government officials advise about this subject.

After consulting this book, I am convinced that our medical hero can lead you away from your chances of perishing in airplane disasters, dirty bombs, terrorist activity, and chemical attacks.

Wow. Talk about a book title showcasing a sign of the times!

Dr. Disaster’s Guide to Surviving Everything: Essential Advice for Any Situation Life Throws Your Way is an excellent resource book for emergency preparation.

Every prepper on the planet should have this book bronzed and placed on the mantle for use in case of a government strike against their freedom. It would make a great weapon.

After reading through this book, I realize I am glad there are people out there more trained in these horrific life-events than myself.

But of all the horrific potential circumstances outlined in this book, I truly hope I never face a zombie attack. Especially if it arrives in the form of my mother-in-law.

True to its name, the book pretty much covers all situations and things you can do to get out if those situations. It was very intersting to read about how you can improvise in a situation and potentially save yourself from dying.

This is a must-read for teens and adults...it's basically the Boy Scouts' E-Prep Badge (emergency preparedness) in book format, but it also adds elements of digital safety and a few other things that aren't in your typical e-prep. The author does a fantastic job of taking his vast knowledge and breaking it down into layman's terms...inserting wit and interesting tidbits here and there to keep the reader engaged...while imparting life-saving wisdom.

There were a few issues with my e-book, but I'm hoping they're just ARC related and won't be the same in all e-copies. Most notably, the graphics, tables, and lists did not show up correctly. They were oddly formatted or just omitted altogether. We will probably end up getting a hardcover copy for the students to use with various studies.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Dr. Disaster's Guide to Surviving Everything.

This was a fantastic book! Dr. Torres has an easygoing writing style which translates well. He writes as he speaks.

His extensive knowledge and experience as a medical doctor and military veteran shines and I am in awe of his intelligence and service to our country.

He dispels many myths regarding certain survival tactics including how to make tourniquets (let's just say television/movies don't get it right) and how to get out of a trapped car in a flood.

I won't lie and say I didn't skip to the section about zombies (I did) and appreciated Dr. Torres referencing zombies as a way to make teaching survival techniques to younger people more interesting.

Some readers may not want to read a book about survival techniques during a global health crisis but, personally, I enjoy these types of books because knowledge is power and in our modern age, it never hurts to be prepared.

I highly recommend Dr. Disaster's Guide to Surviving Everything.

It says a lot about the state of our world when a book called Dr. Disaster's Guide to surviving everything is ACTUALLY the most practical non-fiction that I read. It's useful and very practical. It gave me lots of ideas about simple things like carbon monoxide prevention to fire to other natural disasters. Should be required reading at this point for all adults!

I ordered some smoke detectors and CO detectors combined, and some flashlights on the strength of this book, because although they seemed to be working I needed a back up. All in all a scary book but a necessary one. Written by an expert.

Dr. Disaster’s Guide to Surviving Everything
I got this from NetGalley.
5 Stars!
I really liked it. The things he talked about really could save your life or the lives of your family. The “always watch your six”(your back) is an important lesson to follow in dangerous areas. He covered a lot of important things. He even covered what do you do if you are dealing with a “dirty”(radioactive material containing) bomb! Some page numbers weren’t added in this ARC and had Page 000 instead. Living in a tsunami zone where blackouts are a few times a year phenomena, this could really help.
