Jenny Hale has become a must read author for me this year.
.
Faith will never forget the summer she fell in love. She also won’t forget that her sister stole the man of her dreams.
.
Their grandmother is looking to put an end to the feud once and for all. She requests a family reunion which they begrudgingly agree too. What Faith doesn’t expect is to fall in love with the handsome owner of the beach house or to repair her relationship with her sister.
.
Hale has a way of repairing bonds, getting to the emotion in relationships and displaying the importance of family.
.
Thank you @readforeverpub for an advanced copy.

Being that I went on a trip to Corolla,North Carolina last year for a vacation for the first time and that this book takes place in Corolla and other places on the Outer Banks I just knew this was the book for me. You can easily imagine yourself walking along the beach, feeling the breeze, watch out for the sand so it doesn't blow into your eyes, you can smell the ocean and feel the hot sand beneath your bare feet.
This is a heartwarming and emotion filled book. Sisters Faith and Casey, at the urging of their grandmother agree to a family reunion to try to patch up a family feud caused by a bitter betrayal.
Family grudges are not worth holding onto as life flies by so fast and you have nothing left in the end but bitterness. I loved the grandma in this story,so warm and friendly. There is a possibility of a second chance romance as well. Recommended book!

This was such a cozy beach romance, and I loved it! Jenny Hale writes amazing romance novels. This book would’ve been the perfect Hallmark movie. You can read this book in 24 hours, you won’t be able to put it down. If you’re looking for a summer romance book, I recommend checking it out!

Summer by the Sea is a great summer read! This is a lovely story of a family coming back together while on vacation in the Outer Banks. It is a story of forgiveness, memories, and love. I was a little annoyed by the one character, Faith, who seemed a little childish when dealing with her love interest, Jake- she just kept pushing his buttons. But otherwise, this is a good, clean, light hearted read. Great for the beach or a vacation to the Outer Banks (which I love), of course!
Also, I see this is a republished book, the original cover is much more suitable with a lighthouse that actually resembles Bodie Island Lighthouse.

I discovered Jenny Hale last winter and have been enjoying her seasonally inspired novels recently!

Summer by the Sea is no exception, and if I had a summer house by the sea, this would certainly be on the bookshelf for our visitors to enjoy!

This is the perfect little feel-good romance you’d want to read while lounging on the beach, or by a pool, or in your hammock, or anywhere- just read the dang book!

Faith returns to the summer cottage (being rebuilt) at her grandmother’s birthday request. She has the opportunity to see her sister again (the one she feels “won” at life) and of course she keeps conveniently running into Jake Buchanan, the “handyman” making all of the final fixes to the cottage she loved.

What ensues from here is such an endearing story of redemption and mended relationships, as well as learning what’s truly important.

If you like happy endings, beach settings, sisterly reunions and great grandmas, then do yourself a favor and snag this one before the end of summer!

Jenny Hale is one of my favorite authors to pick up for a Christmas romance. And so, I thought that would translate over into her summer stories. So, I had picked up Summer By The Sea hoping for a decent beach read out of the deal. As it turns out, Summer By The Sea wasn’t my favorite of all time. It was, however, a decent read. I am still willing to try more summer themed books from Hale. Although, they just aren’t at the level of enjoyment that I have for the Christmas books. Alas.

Summer By The Sea is set in the Outer Banks. Faith is heading to the Outer Banks for a two week vacation with her mother, grandmother and estranged sister, Casey. You see, it is her Nan’s ninetieth birthday and she wants her family altogether again. This hearkens back to Faith’s childhood where they would vacation to the Outer Banks every summer to the beach house her grandmother owned — until it got destroyed in a hurricane. Now there’s a new beach house built in the spot and it turns out they are renting it. Oh, and also there’s a handyman putting finishing touches on the cottage named Jake who Faith is very attracted to. At the same time, Faith has to come to grips with the betrayal that happened between her and Casey so long ago. She needs to put the past behind her in order to move forward.

I had hoped I would like Summer By The Sea more than I actually did. Overall though, I just felt like the book was kind of repetitive. Over and over we read about Faith feeling comfortable with Jake who is thoughtful and anticipates her feelings. She also does act kind of childish toward her sister Casey instead of opening her mouth and using her words to communicate like an adult. I did, however, enjoy the parts where she interacts with her Nan. Those bits were so sweet. On the whole, I thought Hale’s Summer By The Sea was a low key beach kind of read and one that was pleasant but ultimately forgettable for me. If you’re looking for a low stress, low stakes kind of book to read though, chances are you’ll enjoy this one.

Thank you to the publisher for a copy of the book. I love Hale’s books and the premise of the book of a family with some issues that needs to be resolved. This one fell flat for me. I really struggled with Faith and her feelings towards her sister, Casey. The feelings were warranted but internal dialogue got so repetitive. I was frustrated with how Faith jumped to conclusions about her sister’s interactions with Jake as well. The romance did feel a little awkward between Jake and Faith. I did love Grandma and the beach house and all the special memories it held for the family.

Story Notes

Jenny Hale brings readers another wonderful story about finding forgiveness and family again as well as a real chance at love that will last.

Sibling rivalry is as old as time itself but sometimes what starts as a simple competition becomes a hurtful contest of wills that will leave someone devastated by the results. Faith and Casey were once as close as two sisters could be but Casey finagled her way into Faith's boyfriend's good graces and eventually got him to fall in love. Faith was deeply hurt and angry given how much of her heart she had poured out to her sister about him. Thus she hasn't spoken to her sister in years and has, unfortunately, missed out on some of her niece's life because of their rift. But that's all about to change when their grandmother insists on them spending a last summer together at the beach house she used to own. Faith dreads the time she will have to spend with Casey and, while she wishes she could move past the hurt and anger, Casey has never apologized or seemed shamed by what she did. Can Faith open her heart to Casey again, or will fear keep her from her sister once more?
Jake is the local handy-man and owner of the beach house they stay in but it seems there is more to him that immediately meets the eye. Yes, he is handsome and kind, but as they get to know him better, it seems there may be a bit of history there that he is unwilling to share with just anyone. Faith befriends him quickly, drawn to his kind treatment of her and a bit shocked at his quiet flirting. She is not usually the sister men are attracted to first but Casey is not the one that has drawn Jake's eye. Their friendship has potential to turn to something more if they are both willing to let down their walls and be honest with the other. But will history repeat itself in Casey trying to turn attention to herself or will the two sisters finally be able to forgive and forget the past?
I really enjoyed this story. It was a sweet read with some good grit to keep it interesting. Family drama makes for the best book fodder and I loved how Jenny used it here. She didn't shy away from showing the hurt and pain that family members can wreck on each other, intentionally or otherwise. Jenny gave us a good, long look at what selfishness can do and how forgiveness can mend wounds that have only been bandaged rather than lanced. The contrast of the two sisters was well done and I loved the way that their grandmother was constantly pushing them - though gently - together to help them work things out. Jake was a good match for Faith, showing her that she is beautiful just as she is, inside and out. Their love story was not fluff either and that gave the story some nice depth too. I will certainly be recommending this one to others in the hope they will enjoy it as well. It would be the perfect book for vacation or a beach day - given the subject.

I didn't realize that this was a re-publishing of a Jenny Hale book from 2015 but it is a great summer read for fans of the beachy books even if we are not able to be at the beach. It was a cute, clean, easy to read romance and family story that would be an awesome Hallmark movie. The characters are likeable, the story-line believable, and the scenery was perfect!
This was the first Jenny Hale book I have read and am happy that I have been introduced to this author. I already have two of her newest books on my "want to read" list.

Thanks to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this fabulous book!

So, I had a tougher time with this Jenny Hale than any of her other books. Though the plot was nice, and I loved the concept of coming back together as a family and getting over old hurts, it was hard to believe between these 2 sisters.
Both sisters felt like they never matured emotionally past high school, and that made this book a tough sell for me. I felt bad for the guys in their life. They had a lot they needed to do and teach these two women.
The grandma was my favorite character. We love a sassy granny!

I've loved Jenny Hale's book ever since "Coming Home for Christmas" (2013). Just another good one on her list.

Summer By the Sea is a summer romance. It shows us the powerful bond between sisters, first love and that we can't always get what we want but we might get exactly what we need. As a young girl, Faith though she had found the love of her life only to have her younger sister to steal him away. The sisters have been estranged from each other ever since that summer. Their 90 year old grandmother requests that both girls spend the summer holidays at their childhood beach house. This will be the first time that they are both together since the rift.

Faith realizes that she has spent too long holding on to the resentment of her sister. and is finally ready to move on and rekindle the relationship. She knows she needs to open her heart and find that close bond that they once shared. One unexpected event is that Casey is surprised to have a strong chemistry with the present day owner of the beach house. I highly recommend this book..

I am a huge Jenny Hale fan and I have enjoyed all of her books. This book is set in the Outer Banks which is a place I gave vacationed many times, which made reading this story extra special. I loved meeting Faith’s family as they get together after many years and vacation at the beach together. Faith meets Jake, the owner of the house and after agreeing to go out with him, she finds out who he really is. They both had different ideas about what people wanted when visiting the beach. I loved the dynamic relationship they had and seeing them really get to know each other was fun and interesting. This was a very enjoyable read!

I love Jenny Hale's books. Each one is better than the one before and this one does not disappoint. This book has it all - a vacation at the beach has one family experiencing new love, heartbreak and heartfelt memories. I needed tissues for this one. Sophia, the matriarch of the family, AKA Nan, passed along her wisdom and excellent advice to her granddaughters to help them heal a family rift. The book speaks of taking chances and putting yourself out there for love. Taking a risk instead of settling. Faith is forced to step outside her comfort zone or risk losing the love of her life. With her grandmother's sound advice she takes that step. Beautifully written as always by this wonderful author.

Book Review
Summer by the Sea by Jenny Hale

Another feel good read from Jenny! She is quickly becoming an auto buy author for me. Her books aren’t heavy emotional roller coasters full of triggers and angst. Instead, they are full of characters I can readily make an emotional connection with and storylines that are easily to follow and draw me in. I find solace in her guaranteed #happilyeverafter . #summerbythesea is no exception. Between home renos, sandcastles, and sisters, love is found in an opposites attract/enemies to lovers trope that will satisfy all romance lovers.
Her books offer a lighter side of romance that are full of hope and possibility.
A perfect summer vacay read for your Shelves.

Set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, our protagonist Faith is off on summer break to meet up with her mom, Nan, and sister Casey. Having been estranged from her sister for many years, the girls are only reuniting at the request of Nan, their 90-year-old grandmother. The family is returning to the place they called home many summers ago, and everyone is hoping this summer will be as magical as the ones before.

Faith and her sister Casey haven't seen each other in so long- since Casey ran off with Faith's love- but she is determined to get along with her while on the trip, just for Nan. What she doesn't bank on is meeting Jake Buchanan, and the unmistakable chemistry the two have at first sight.

Will the girls find peace? Will Faith finally get her own happy ending? Jenny Hale has once again pulled me in... and left me sad to leave her characters. Here's to the next one!

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I'm a huge fan of author Jenny Hale but this was not my favorite book of hers as I found it too predictable.
