Summer by the Sea is a relaxed, slow based beach read.
Two sisters had a falling out many years ago come together with the help of their grandmother.
This would have been a 4 star rating except for the droning on and on from the main character, Faith. She kept coming back to how her sister did her wrong years ago. I got it the first time….the second time….the third time. I started to get a bit irritated after the third time.
Romance, family and forgiveness are the theme for Summer by the Sea.
Overall, if you are looking for a easy beach read, this just may be what you need. Not a favorite read for me.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Outer Banks is one of my favorite places to be. I go often with family and friends. It is very special to me. So a book set at the Outer Banks and about developing it, is right up my alley. That part of the book was amazing.

The rest of the book gave me whip lash. The sister relationship was close, mad at each other, close - back and forth. Jake's and Faith's relationship was the same as her sisters - back and forth. Most of the book was on repeat.

Even though the end was what I usually like and expect from romance, by the time I got there I wasn't sure I was believing it.

Sisters, Faith and Casey, their mother, and grandmother are on a holiday in the Outer Banks of Carolina to celebrate their grandmothers 90th birthday. It should be a joyous celebration except that Faith and Casey are still bitter about a feud that happened years ago. Can the two sisters put aside their differences and enjoy the beach like they did when they were children? What will happen when a handsome handyman enters the picture? Will history repeat itself or can both sisters find their happily ever after's?

This was a beautiful story by Jenny Hale about family and how even though they love each other, they can still harbor long ago hurts. The wisdom of the generations was so lovely, and I really enjoyed the character of Nan the grandmother. Each character had their own struggles to overcome, and they all had lessons to learn. The relationship of the two sisters was written so well that I could feel the tension between them and loved that they had to work through real life issues together. My thanks to Forever Publishing, Jenny Hale and Netgalley for an advanced copy to read and review. Opinions expressed are my own.

When Faith was a teenager, her older sister Casey, fell in love with the boy she had fallen for, Scott. Now, many years later, her ninety year old Nan, has requested the family return to the Outer Banks at the beach where they spent many summers. Faith hasn't seen her sister in many years and is now spending two weeks under the same roof as her, hoping to move on from the past, and enjoy the vacation. What she didn't expect was to meet Jake Buchanan, the current owner of the beloved beach house, and have nearly immediate chemistry with him. Faith needs to explore her feelings of the past and feelings for Jake to see how she can move on from the pain years ago.

This romance by Jenny Hale is a slow burn, and intense. The family members and dynamics were interesting to read about. From main character, Faith, to little Isabella, they were all well thought out and developed. I loved how Nan encouraged the whole family to heal and remember good days of the past through the use of her photos and memories.

While the family is in the Outer Banks, they go on many day trips. Hale does and excellent job of describe these places, and I was able to escape and imagine what it would be like. I also really felt the relationship between Faith and Jake and really felt invested in the outcome.

This is a great summer read, either while you are on vacation or sitting in your backyard. I received a copy of this from NetGalley and the publisher for an open and honest review. All opinions are 100% mine.

This was an enjoyable summer read that just missed the mark for me a bit. The chemistry between Jake and Faith was palpable, but Jake ran hot and cold and I found it a bit difficult to champion him as the hero. The Outer Banks are stunning, and Jenny Hale captured them well. Overall, I liked the novel and would definitely read more by the author.

Faith and Casey were the closest of sisters growing up. Each summer they headed to the Outer Banks to stay at their family cottage. They had a falling out when Casey married Faiths best friend Scott, just as Faith thought they might be more than friends. A hurricane leveled the cottage so the summer forays ended.

Nan's 90th birthday is approaching and her request is the family spend 2 weeks at a cottage in the Outer Banks built on their old land. They meet the builder Jake upon artival. Sparks fly between Faith and Jake. Casey admits she and Scott are separated.

The story unfolds as Casey and Faith resolve their issues, Faith faces her growing feelings towards Jake, Casey realizes that she loves and misses her husband. How they approach their lives and enfold the familiarity of the beach and memories, will keep you engaged and enthralled.

It's a delightful story of life, family, love, and the memories that shape us.

I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.

Nan was going to be turning 90, and her family was coming back to celebrate. Jake now owns the beach house they stayed at when they were young, and he is fixing it up. Nan has made some suggestions to him and as it turns out he does them and is amazed at how good they turned out.
Faith and her sister haven't spoken for a lot of years because Faith thought Casey betrayed her by stealing her boyfriend. When they finally meet again, they have a lot of things to think about, work through, and Faith has to learn to trust Casey again.
This is their summer journey, of the things they have to work through, the things they have to do to move forward in life, and they have to take a look at themselves, and find out how making some changes can give them what they haven't wanted and hadn't been able to totally get. It is a wonderful story of the family, coming together, and once they open up, see things differently, and take steps necessary to make their lives a work of progress, like the beach house Jake is fixing up.
I received an ARC from Forever through NetGalley.

Jenny Hale has done it again! Another heartwarming and just plain lovely story about love and family. With every story of hers, I become more and more of a fan. This one being based in The Outer Banks, NC, makes me love it even more because it’s my fav place on earth!
Faith and her family are getting together at the family home for their grandmothers 90th birthday. The house has had to be rebuilt due to hurricane damage but it’s better than ever, and a beautiful symbol of their relationships. They need to rebuild and start fresh as old wounds are still tender. While there, Faith falls for the local handyman, who is really a wealthy entrepreneur who does handyman work on the side just for the enjoyment of it. He’s been scarred by a previous relationship so he has things to deal with as well before they can go any further.
I loved reading about all the familiar places in the Outer Banks, and seeing their family grow and reconnect was enough to make my heart smile. I can’t wait for her next book.
Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for this Arc in exchange for my review.

This is the perfect read for summer. It takes you away to the beach where you can just relax and forget about everything else going on. It moves along at a great pace which makes for an easy and enjoyable read. You will love these characters and by the end you feel as though you know them personally and you want to be there with them. The story will keep you interested and reading from beginning to end. This book has to be read.

Faith and her grandmother, mother, sister Casey and niece come back to the Outer Banks for a summer get together to celebrate the grandmother's 80th birthday in a place where they used to gather every summer for some fun at the beach. Jake Buchanan is a local business owner who owns the beach house they are renting. Faith finds instant rapport with him but meanwhile the family has some processing to do about past hurts and current hurts. It's a great story and more than just a "romance," it's an in depth study into family dynamics. I loved it!

Thank you NetGalley, Jenny Hale and Forever for the ARC of Summer by the Sea. This is my personal review.
I have read many books by Jenny Hale but this one for me just fell flat. I wanted to connect with the characters in the book and feel like I wanted to know more about them but that never came through for me. I love reading books about sisters but this one did not give me the feeling I was looking for as I read this one.
It was an OK read but it is not one that will stick out as a book I would read again.

Jenny Hale knows how to write sweet, tender stories. Summer by the Sea involves forgiveness, family, and future plans. I suspected the truth about Nan’s cottage from the beginning. I vacillated with Jake, alternating liking and disliking him, especially as his ideas for development came to light. Martha was a peripheral figure. I was neutral about Casey. I liked Faith, but thought she was a little standoffish and self righteous at times. Overall, it’s a sweet story about a family, reuniting at the beach, and finding ways to preserve precious memories,

A family reunion beach trip and an opportunity for two estranged sisters to settle past differences sounds like. the perfect book to prepare for summer reading. Reading this did make me ready for long days spent by the water with its descriptions of North Carolina beaches. Otherwise, I was largely left irritated. A cast of characters that I really did not like who find it impossible to communicate in healthy ways. Faith, our heroine, is quick to judge and is is inexplicably drawn to Jake, despite seemingly disagreeing with everything he believes in and not trusting his feelings for her which I can perhaps understand given their complete lack of chemistry. Another person Faith does not trust is her sister, Casey. after Casey married the boy Faith had feelings for. The two sisters never adequately discuss the past or their feelings. Casey has issues in her own life but is bristly and quick to dismiss Faith's emotions, An easy beach read for sure, but once I was glad to see end.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a great summer read. If you can’t get away this summer, this book is a great escape to the beach. I wasn’t sure how to feel about Faith and Casey and mending their relationship. I know sisters share a special bond, but some things are hard to move on from. Jake was a great character and I loved him and Faith getting to know each other. A very sweet read. I received an ARC from netgalley, and this is my honest review.

Summer by the Sea by Jenny Hale

Thank you to NetGalley & Read Forever Pub for the advanced copy!

I went into Summer by the Sea expecting a sweet romance with lots of beachy feels. This was not the book for that. It did deliver beachy feels and had a wonderful storyline about the importance of family. I truly love the Outer Banks area so definitely giving it more stars for the setting and descriptions of and, of course, Nan. Sweet Nan made the entire book. I love how all she wanted was the family to stick together and spend time together.

I did not care cod or feel a connection between any of the remaining MCs.

The struggle between the two sisters was rough. Casey and Faith were both very selfish and made a lot of excuses for their behaviors. I didn’t care for either of them.

Then we have the “romance” between Jake. Jake was basically a Jekyll and Hide type character. It was not believable to me that someone so sweet and good natured to almost everyone he meets truly was destroying the towns he loved to develop them and be richer and was so hot and cold to Faith it was bordering on cruel. Normally, I would have felt sorry for Faith but she was very judgmental about how he made his living and even made them leave the fancy restaurant they went to on their first date. While I understood her feelings - who does that then pines away and keeps pushing herself on someone whose values so clearly are misaligned?

Spoilers ahead- the ending of course wrapped up in a neat bow and both the sisters got what they wanted and the men had to change for them and they got their beach house.

Sadly, not a hit for me but it was a quick read and had some good moments!

I LOVE anything by Jenny Hale! I just read her newest book The Beach House which releases June 9th 2021!
Its amazing btw. So when I seen Summer by the Sea was on NetGalley by her..... I prayed I would get it!
So thank you! Seriously thank you NG, Forever and Author for this sweet ebook!

This beautiful, heartwarming book was flat out amazing! Two sister Casey & Faith try to rekindle their relationship. After having a strained relationship they agree to meet at their childhood beach house for a family holiday, with their 90 year old grandmother.
Can these two sisters forget about what has happened in the past and move forward?

Jenny has quickly become a favorite of mine. Her characters are so realistic and flawed!.
The story was just beautiful. A story about forgiveness and family.

So after reading book two by her I'm now determined to get my hands on every ebook written by Hale!

I'm sorry. This was not a good fit. It was almost too perfect? If that makes sense? I literally made it to 20% and it was....one page sunshine and roses and the next page....angst. I felt like I had whiplash. You know I love reading my beloved North Carolina and the backdrop was stunning. It unfortunately did not carry the story for me. I really have to wonder if this would come across the screen better? I would watch the Hallmark movie version.
