Thank you so much to Harper Audio and Netgalley for an audio arc of The Rose Code by Kate Quinn.
.
This audiobook is so well narrated. I really enjoyed the narration and story telling, especially with the multiple time lines and points of view.
.
I love Quinn’s writing, she is an auto read author for me! I felt like this novel was a bit long in the middle but I think hybrid teaching this year made it difficult for me to pay attention. I put the book down and then picked it back up again and flew through it. I ended up loving the book and recommend it to fans of historical fiction. Quinn writes and describes characters wonderfully and I really appreciate the care and attention and research she puts into her novels.

I am not usually a huge historical fiction fan, but couldn’t help picking this one up after reading some rave reviews.

First of all, it is a page turner! I couldn’t put it down. Second, I love the way Quinn handled the female characters during the time, the mental health aspects of the story and the growing world of technology.

It was LONG, but didn’t feel it at all. A definite and an enthusiastic recommended reading.

I received an audiobook ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for my review. This was a terrific story of female codebreakers during WWII that were tasked with trying to break the German codes to help put an end to the war. Kate Quinn does such a wonderful job of weaving two time periods: in this case the 1940's and the 1947 wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip with all the drama of the world being at war. I have read all of Kate Quinn's stories and they are all just flawless! I had never heard of the code breaking that went on at Bletchley Park and due to the vows of secrecy I'm afraid so many stories have been lost. This was an amazing story and I found myself just sitting in my car listening to the story because I couldn't bring myself to shut it off!

The Rose Code begins when two friends, Osla and Mab receive an invitation from their friend Beth who is currently locked in an sanitarium. Beth knows that someone betrayed her 7 years ago. This part of the story takes place in 1947. The story flashes back to 1940 and the World War and the time that the three women met and worked together at Bletchley Park. Mab and Osla took a room at Beth's mother's home during the war while they were working at Bletchley Park. They observe Beth and her ability to do crossword puzzles in her head and recommend that she come to work with them at Bletchley Park. Beth is hired to crack codes. The book tells the story of these three women and their friendship and work during the time of World War II. You learn about the code breaking and the romance and secrets these three women have.

This book was very interesting and I was very engrossed in the story. I really liked learning about Bletchley Park and the code breakers in England during the war. I listened to this book and really enjoyed the audiobook version. The narrator did a great job. I received an ARC of this through the publisher. Thank you for the wonderful read.

Yes, I'm obsessed with historical fiction books. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to listen to another Kate Quinn novel. Once again she brought the characters to life for me and kept me wondering who the traitor was. Absolutely a MUST READ if you are into historical fiction.

Thank you to Harper Audio for my audio copy of The Rose Code by Kate Quinn in exchange for my honest review.

I have listened to quite a few books that were narrated by Saskia Maarlaveld and she is a favorite of mine, especailly when it comes to Historial Fiction. She just makes each character come to life and set apart from the others.

I don't read a lot of Historical Fiction, but this one grabbed my attention when I saw that it was about female code breakers in WWII. Each character was unique and held my interest. I was totally hooked with storyline of Beth's hospitalization and being hidden away against her will. And how they all came back toghether to help set her free and show who put her there had me on the edge of my seat.

This one is a must-listen for all Historical Fiction fans!

3.5 stars. A book about code breakers during WWII sounds pretty cool, but I never really connected with any of the 3 main characters. I loved parts of this very long book but found the drama and love stories boring. The current time period storyline was overly drawn out and the resolution of the mystery was unsatisfying. The narration of the audiobook was very good.

I'm sure this book is great if read but I believe it's an even better experience as an audiobook. Saskia Maarleveld, who narrates several of Quinn's novels did an exceptional job bringing the story to life and my interest peaked and has worked its way to my top Kate Quinn book!

The novel revolves around three female narrators, Mab a strong protagonist who doesn't take anything off anyone, setting herself clear goals, Osla a debutante who wants to serve her country to her best and be known for more than her social status, and then Beth the shy, quirky local who can solve a crossword puzzle faster than anyone around, These three form a sisterhood of sorts while working at Bletchley Park and living together in Beth's family home. Because Bletchley Park was so compartmentalized, Quinn is able to give a more rounded picture to the interworking of Britain's code-breaking through the trio's eyes.

I absolutely loved these three distinctly flawed women. Because each is so real, with their own fears, longings and hopes, the reader can attach to them, recognizing their shortcomings while still loving and rooting them on. The reader gets to dive into storylines including code breaking, feminism, royalty, social status, secrecy, sacrifice, sexuality, and sisterhood. At times, I could not cue fast enough because it read like a thriller, other times I was wiping my eyes from raw emotion, Kate Quinn did a phenomenal job with all the right ingredients to make this my favorite historical fiction of the first half of 2021. Will have to see what the next half brings.

PS...if you love a good royal plot, Prince Philip makes several cameos throughout. Who knew he dated a Bletchley Park German translator for 5 years?

Thank you to Harper Audio, Kate Quinn and Netgalley for an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for my honest review.

I listened to this on audio book and really loved it!

4/5 stars simply because it wasn't quite as "gripping" as other books I've read. I was able to put it down and sometimes forget about it because it wasn't consuming my waking mind. But everytime I did pick it up again, I was so happy that I did.

The characters are just so damn lovable! I just had fun following along with them and seeing what they would do next.

Highly recommend if you like historical fiction and character driven novels!

I absolutely loved The Alice Network so I knew I had to have this when it came out this March! It definitely didn’t disappoint! I always love how KQ can capture the essence of WWII and keep me so invested in the characters. This is another great book, bravo Kate!

Absolutely loved this one! I've enjoyed many of Kate Quinn's previous ones, so it was no surprise. I had no idea that this book was based on a significant chunk of history, which I found super interesting. I had no idea about the code breaking women in the war! The characters were real and believable. The plot was fast paced and kept me interested. Looking forward to whatever it is Kate Quinn writes next!!

The Rose Code is a beautiful book. I loved the setting, in England during World War 2. Kate Quinn does an excellent job of painting a vivid picture as she writes.

I enjoyed listening to the narrator. She added extra depth and emotion to the story that kept me invested and hooked.

I definitely recommend this novel.

Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers, and the author for giving me the opportunity to review this book. Kate Quinn has become an automatic buy for me recently. She is so well researched and conveys that in her novels. From the first paragraph she hooks the readers with her charm. I found myself thinking of Osla’s story while I was at work. I couldn’t wait to get back to listening/reading her story. All of the timelines and point of views came together seamlessly. I can’t wait to reread this book time and time again!

This one is a solid read that I did enjoy, but I had some difficulties getting into the story. Perhaps it would have been better for me to read it as a book rather than listening to it on audio as I got a little lost! Definitely do recommend checking it out.

The Rose Code is the story of three women, Osla, Beth. & Mab, who work at Bletchley Park during WWII. Osla is a socialite, Beth is a local girl from a strict family, and Mab is a city girl from the wrong side of the tracks. These three become unlikely friends. Over their time at Bletchley Park the girls go through relationships, bombings, and deaths. Their time there ends with one of them being sent to a mental institution. A few years later the other two girls receive a coded message from the third. They now have just a few days to save their friend and capture a spy.
What I really liked about this story is that so many WWII novels are about characters that are in country working as resistance fighters. This story are about women who worked in various parts of the code breaking process and the book spends as much time on their work as on their lives. I loved each of the women and enjoyed going through this story with them. I definitely recommend this book fans of women's fiction, historical fiction, and mysteries.

It took me almost a month to listen to this book! Not because it wasn't interesting but because I cannot listen to it when I am doing anything else. My brain cannot focus on an English accent while trying to complete housework or while I am at work. So I would turn it on and listen any chance I got but it was never for long.

The narrator was great, she did a great job with changing her voice slightly when she was speaking as one of the other female code breakers. I would listen to another audiobook with Saskia Maarleveld as the narrator.

The story was fantastic! I loved learning more about the code breakers at Bletchley Park and the important work they completed during the war. This book had romance, intrigue, royalty, and heart break. Everything you want from a historical fiction novel.

This would make a great audiobook for a long commute.
