Ok, it does lose a point because the art style is so not my cup of tea, and because the translation from Spanish is a little rough in places (no Mexican person would EVER order a Quesadilla "with cheese", this would be the equivalent of ordering a grilled cheese with cheese!).
But the story is fun - a commercial artist, frustrated with the lack of creativity in his work "accidentally" breaks his arm, gets laid off and spends months and months eating chips and watching TV until he meets a random girl who changes the way he sees life. It's a story revolving around food, with a rogue motorcycle gang of food truck cooks, and even features a gun-toting, tech savvy granny. Super fun!

The art is really unique, but it personally didn’t work for me. The story jumps around a lot and I had a hard time following it. I think this was translated from Spanish into English. Maybe it’ll get cleaned up in the final version but the dialogue is really stiff, and some of the noise sounds like “roooom” and “plock” just made no sense to me. I didn’t feel much for the characters and the art doesn’t support the dialogue very well. There’s a few flashbacks but it’s hard to tell through the art.

Unfortunately this one just didn't click for me. There were interesting pieces here, but it didn't come together, at least in the form I read. The story jumped around and it wasn't done very clearly - not sure if that was intentional or if it will be cleaned up in its final form. Also the dialogue seemed off in places - I believe this is a translated work, so again, I'm not sure if this will eventually be more polished.

Also, on a personal note, I just didn't care for the art. On a glimmer of a positive note, the story and characters were unique.

More of a 3.5 read, but I’m rounding up because it’s hopeful and I’m in the mood for hope right now.

This was a fun slice of life comic featuring a lovable manic pixie dream girl and the down in the dumps dude she ends up inspiring. And food trucks! And food truck turf wars? Anyway, it’s a fun one and the art style was interesting and really enhanced the vibe of the story.

I really wanted to like this graphic novel but I just couldn't. I didn't like the turn it took, the characters, or even the art. None of this graphic novel was for me. I am sure there are those out there who would love this but sadly I am just not one of them.

This is the most thrilling book about food trucks I've ever read. It was like an old school western wrapped in a foodie romcom. The interactions between the characters were really fresh and interesting as a meetcute, and somehow the bewildering decision to team up with a food truck and leave behind their lives makes sense in the context of what we learn about them. The back and forth of the timeline was a little confusing at times, but I was never lost for long.

Natural Born Tortillas, as two lively youths get a fast food van and - well, I'd not even survived to the part where they got the van, for this was just too trashy and quite ugly with it. What's the Mexican Spanish for 'life's too short'?

Onion Skin is the story of two young Mexicans who, after meeting en route to a concert, decide to start a food truck business together and quickly begin targets of a murderous rival food truck company/apparent gang. The story shifts back and forth in time, which is sometimes confusing, with most of the narrative focused on the events immediately preceding and following the conflict with their food truck rivals. I found it hard to identify with main character Rolando, an apparent 20 something graphic designer who decides he hates his job (mostly because he's forced by his boss not to be lazy) and avoids work by intentionally shattering his hand in an "accident." Nera is more sympathetic, although there is something a bit bewildering about her lifelong dream to become a chef....despite never trying to cook. Warnings for violence, death, and mild gore.
