Gretchen White is both a doctor of psychology and a criminologist, and while she’s an expert on antisocial behavior and violent criminals, she’s also an admitted sociopath, suspected in the death of her aunt. Gretchen has worked closely with detective Patrick Shaughnessy, helping him solve cases and capture dangerous criminals, but deep down inside, the good detective still has his doubts about her. His newest case seems open and shut, a cold and selfish teen, Viola, has been accused of killing her mother. The public has already decided she’s guilty, and Patrick believes their right. Gretchen, however, isn’t so sure. She once found herself in the same position and sets out to uncover the truth. I love the fact that the main character in this book is such an enigma, give me a heroine with a clouded past over a “good” girl any day
