Sweet story on childhood love.

When Alex decides to speak up when the priest asks if anyone was opposed at his best friend's wedding, he never thought he'd be able to go through with it. Only now, Ellie hates his guts. But then again, why would she have sex with him the night before her wedding if she truly loved the guy?

Alex has loved Ellie since he was 6 years old. Now he needs to finally man up and show her. The whole town knows how he feels, with the help of Ellie's brothers, her dad, his mom, his grandfather, and his 8 year old son, something has to convince her. Right?

While this book had a lot of potential and it does devolve into a family and relationship-centric tale somewhere along the way, the way it started just left a weird taste and it felt rather hard to get over - the whole thing about sleeping with a woman who thinks she's sleeping with her fiancé, and the 'hero' does not correct her, because he totally digs her? The issue of consent rankled a bell here, which then just killed the vibe of rooting for Alex throughout

[Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the ebook. This review is my honest opinion but just another opinion, you should read this book and judge it by yourself]

//REVIEW IN ENGLISH SOON//

I'm a bit behind on reviewing this, but since I just finally read it, here goes nothing! I enjoyed this story a lot! For those of you that have an issue with the opening premise (that the main characters have sex when the heroine is drunk and thinks that the hero is someone else), stick with it anyway. It's worth it!

It was just ok and I much preferred the other book in the series (The Best Man) that I read earlier this year. The writing seems overly simple and there’s not a lot of depth to the characters or plot.

A bit too long but oh, so much fun.
I am not the biggest fan of romantic comedies in book form, but The Best Man is the one I enjoyed.
The characters are fun. The situations are tricky. The setting is just right for romantic comedy full of comedy of errors.

If you have time and so inclined, The Best Man will bring you lots of joy, giggle and... yeah, swearing and rooting moments (for your favourite characters).

I feel bad because this is just a matter of personal preference but the first person present tense ruined any interest I may have had in this book. I couldn’t do it. I’m going to say 3 stars and give the author the benefit of the doubt that I might have liked it had that stylistic choice been different.

I just couldn't get into the book. I only read about 20% in and it just kept getting worse. The characters were annoying and the book just really felt slow to me.

This story had a lot of potential, but for me, the pacing was extremely laboured and rambling. It took seven chapters even to get to know anything even remotely personal about the male protagonist, Alex. Even then, most of it was about how 'inadequate and useless' he felt about himself. Listen, I love an underdog, and i'm all for self-effacing characters, but Alex constantly calling himself a loser makes him sound like he'd do better seeking out some therapy to help with his complete lack of esteem, rather than focusing on romance. And certainly doing all that before breaking up a wedding.

Which leads us to the bizarre events that cause the drama... **spoilers** The woman of his dreams (and bride-to-be) climbs drunkenly into bed with him on the eve of her wedding, proceeds to have sex with him, and - wait for it - thinks she's having sex with her husband-to-be... Just how drunk have you got to be not to notice it's a completely different person than the one you supposedly love (and have been with for SIX years? Alex, has already told us (repeatedly) that he doesn't measure up to the groom-to-be in several physical ways (minds out of the gutter, please!)

All of that aside, it still takes us a 5th of the book to get another interaction between the two lead characters. There is some amusing banter between Ellie's brothers and a couple of sweet moments, but to be honest, I was skipping through a lot of the text towards the end because I was bored. Needs some series editing.

This push and pull romance pulled me out of the romantic mood real quick. The beginning of this book just put me off, I couldn't pull off reading more. While I accidentally read The First Man before this one, I'm glad I didn't read this one first, I would have hated that book.

A huge thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for providing me a copy of the ebook in exchange for an honest review.

The books premise sounded great, and I finished the story, but felt like it was a little all over. There were sometimes i felt that it dragged, and other times, I couldn't put it down. Overall, it was a fun read.

thank you to Netgalley and those associated with this book for the copy of it to read and review!

Sorry for the short and sweet review but I've just been released from the hospital so here goes. I think overall the book had the right elements but we're not done is a smooth manner. While it's not horrible it's not exactly a page turner.

i enjoyed the story but over all felt like it could've been much shorter than it is. the characters got on my nerves a few times, but i appreciate that it touches on some heavier topics and not just the rom-com surface level.

Thank you to the author and NetGalley for a free copy of this book, in exchange for an honest opinion.

When I requested this, I misread and thought it was an ARC - in writing this review, I finally realized that this book actually came out a year ago. I seem to be an outlier, but I wish this had passed me by. The only reason I read the whole thing was my feeling of responsibility having been granted an ARC - had I but known at the time.... Although I applaud the idea of giving the male perspective, this dragged on much too long, with way too much wallowing and second-guessing and lack of editing involved.

I expected this to be a romance, and while there were romantic elements, it was more a story of growth. A story of family. A story of hope. This was exactly what I needed to read to get me out of my reading slump.

This was enjoyable but nothing special. I didn't particularly like the switching between characters and felt like they were a bit flat at times. I did not like the few instances in which the reader was addressed.
Didn't hate this but didn't love it either.

This was a book with a quite confusing premise. Confusing in how the hero acts, how the heroine acts, and to be frank I didn't root for them together which is a problem when it is a love story. The pacing and writing also made it hard for me to be engaged and eventually I ended up skimming through.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC

I enjoyed it for the most part. It was the first half that I enjoyed the most, the second half was ok. I liked about the hero of the novel was just a normal guy with flaws and not with a macho man attitude. I feel like people go in romance thinking the hero has to be "strong" and mysterious, but that shouldn't be the case. The hero in this novel was down to earth, easy to relate to and seemed real to me. Story was entertaining, second half to be honest lost me but again, it wasn't bad. I just preferred the first half

I'm a fan of best friends to lovers romance stories, so I was looking forward to reading this. The blurb really caught my eye because I'm a sucker for the underdog in a story and Alex Brennan certainly painted himself as such.

I admit that it took me a while to get into the story and that whole "mistaken identity" sex scene 🙄. The first few chapters dragged a bit for me, but I understood that the author was trying to give us a broader sense of the town and the people that comprised Alex and Ellie's friends and family. As the story progressed and I got more familiar with the characters and the author's writing style, I started to enjoy myself more and more.

That's not to say that every element brought to the page worked for me, but ultimately the romance aspect won me over, simply because of Alex. He was sweet and caring and he loved big. I loved how he related with the other characters and what those exchanges revealed about his personality and his feelings.

As the first book in a series, The Best Man worked well. I enjoyed the small town setting and the secondary characters that made up Alex and Ellie's friends and family.

All in all, a sweet friends to lovers romance.
