My first time reading a Riley Sager book! I loved the vibe/atmosphere of this book and was totally invested from page 1. Although I didn’t feel particularly passionate about Charlie as a character (seriously WHO accepts a ride from a stranger with a killer on the loose? Girl!) I overall enjoyed the story enough to keep reading. I could see the whole book play out like a movie. I’m excited to get my hands on a physical copy

I must say, I absolutely could not put this one down! I really, really enjoyed our unreliable narrator and I love that Riley Sager always gives us an adventure, no matter how cuckoo they can get. I also always appreciate that Riley Sager doesn’t take himself so seriously and adds pop culture and fun to the suspense. This is definitely a page turning thriller in a way his others aren’t. Definitely higher up there on the list of his books for sure! Last note: Appropriate for older teens, I know some of my high schoolers will eat this one up!

While it took me a moment to get into the story with the cinematic beginning, once I understood what the character was going through, I was locked in and invested in how the plot was going to play out. Just when I thought I'd figured it out, another hairpin turn happened. Great book. Loved it.

The last couple Sager novels have really appealed to me and this one reinforced that. I love a good haunted house trope so I loved his previous one, Home Before Dark. This is quite different--tackling the slasher/80s/90s throwback theme that's so popular right now. (Fear Street, etc). I read it in two nights and didn't see the end coming at all. Fans of thrillers that like a touch of horror mixed in or fans of Sager will enjoy this one. The hold list at the library will be a long one!

Once again, Riley Sager has done a fantastic job of making me think I was going into this book knowing exactly what was happening and coming out with about four whiplash moments and one dropped jaw.
I absolutely adored this book. I was so sure it would be easy to guess the twists and turns Sager would take (I mean they’re in a car…. who else could be the murderer?!) but lo and behold… I was so wrong!

Excellent - couldn't put it down. One of his better novels & will highly recommend to all thriller fans.

Thank you for the free copy of Survive the Night!
Riley Sager is a very popular author that I see all over social media. Sager's books have been highly recommended to me, but I have never gotten around to reading one.. Until Survive the Night. This book lived up to my expectations! I was immediately sucked into it and became invested in the characters. The book kept my attention and made it a quick read for me. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves Thrillers!

Survive the Night is the newest thriller written by Riley Sager. Sager has quickly become the go to author for an intense read. Charlie is a college student who is desperate to get home. However, she doesn't drive and in order to leave campus and make it home she decides to accept a ride with a stranger. Not long into the drive Charlie discovers that all may not go as smoothly as she was anticipating. She even begins to wonder if her life might be in danger. ✨Book Review✨
Survive the Night by Riley Sager
3.5 stars

First off, I will start this by saying that I am a big Riley Sager fan and his last book, Home Before Dark, was my favorite yet. This book, was NOT that. Survive the Night was definitely my least favorite Riley Sager book so far (I've read them all other than Final Girls).
.
While this book did hold my attention and I didn't want to put it down, the plot just really fell flat. There were so many unrealistic (and just weird) twists, SO much gaslighting, and the most unreliable and frustrating narrator ever. I'm also starting to think I'm just really not into books that take place over the span of a few hours.
.
There were definitely parts of this book I really liked, but the twists and turns made me dizzy. Plus, the very very very end was some misogynistic bullshit. One of the characters did fully remind me of the waitress from Emperor's New Groove though, so that was fun. I guess worth reading if you want an unrealistic thriller that will hold your attention.

This book was one of my most anticipated reads all year! I enjoyed it, but wouldn’t say it was my favorite Sager. I wonder if maybe I hyped it up too much in my head. Either way, the ending was jam-packed and so much fun to read!

I had really high hopes for this book based off the blurb and was really let down when the book was over. The story was boring and extremely slow paced. Charlie was mundane and the whole movies in here head didn’t work for me. The ending was lackluster as well. There was only one twist that I really liked and that’s why I gave this story 3 stars.

When I say this was a roller coaster, I don’t even think that describes it properly. I was graciously given access to an arc via Penguin-Dutton Books and NetGalley. This book is an experience. I don’t even know how to describe it; however, I can say I now need to read every book by this author. This is my first Riley Sager, but it will not be my last. I love the twists and turns in this. Just when I was frustrated enough and thought I had it figured out everything changed. The first half was a little slow and I really didn’t care for Charlie, but the second half was nonstop.

"People don't want to admit that there are monsters in their midst, so the monsters continue to roam free and the cycle of violence and blame continues." Charlie is leaving her university after the death of her roommate, and accepts a ride home from a stranger heading in the same direction. When he appears to not be what he seems, Charlie has to decide who she can trust.
I am a fan of Sager's other books, and this does not disappoint. It's twisty and fast paced, and even for someone who reads a lot of thrillers, the surprises (especially the ending!) are genuinely surprising.

Sager is one of my auto by authors. I have to read anything that they write. Survive the Night was definitely a different story line. I was definitely going back and forth trying to decide what was going to happen and the ending threw me for a loop. While unique, it definitely wasn't my favorite of all of the books Sager has written.

Holy crap what a ride! I mean that literally & figuratively. This book did not stop. The twists. The turns. But it all made sense to me.
While The Last Time I Lied is still my favorite book of Sager‘s, this one is a close second. Read it. Now. Because I want to talk about it.
And I need to see this movie made.
Unputdownable.

Title: Survive The Night
Author: Riley Sager
Publisher: Dutton Books
@duttonbooks
Genre: Thriller
Survive The Night is the fifth book by popular author Riley Sager. And for this book it’s either going to be you’re #teamsager or not. This one is getting VERY mixed reviews! It’s one of those books you have to overlook a lot of things and decide if you can like a book for pure entertainment. It’s a highly binge-able book! I haven’t been reading a lot of thrillers lately because I’m over the unreliable narrator and bad endings, so I probably shouldn’t of liked this one so much; But I loved it!
It’s November of 1991 and Nirvana plays in the tape deck . . . Come as you are . . .
Charlie needs a ride home from college to Ohio pronto. Her roommate was murdered and she can’t deal with things. And the murderer is still on the loose!!! Like what!?!? So, she meets Josh at the ride share board and as luck would have it he’s headed home too to care for his sick father. Or so he says . . . 😳
Charlie is a film major and is obsessed with movies. She has been since her parent’s died when she was younger. It was a way for her to deal with grief. She finds herself falling back into these habits and as she journeys home Josh. She starts hallucinating in movies scenes in the car and suddenly thinks she remembers seeing the murderer who killed her roommate. She becomes paranoid that she is driving with a serial killer. 🤯
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ok, so yeah, who gets in a car with a stranger!? All of Sager’s lead female characters are classic movie characters similar to those in a horror movie. The ones you’re screaming at the tv “why would you do something so stupid!?” However, I still read this book in less than 24 hours, loved the 90s nostalgia, movie references, the crazy journey, and even the ending! Especially the ending! #sorrynotsorry

I have to start off this review by saying that I am a huge fan of Riley Sager. I've enjoyed every single one of his books. While I enjoyed this one, I have to be honest in saying that it wasn't my favorite. I am used to his books keeping me on the edge of my seat, and I usually find myself racing through the pages to find out what was going to happen next. This book seemed somewhat anti-climactic. I did keep reading because I wanted to see how it ended, but compared to his others, I thought this one was pretty average. Charlie, the main character, is a college student whose parents have died in a car accident, and most recently, her roommate is killed. It seems like there is a Campus Killer on the loose, but that really isn't even the main focus of the story. Charlie embarks on a road trip back home, and it seems like there is one goal: to survive the night. This book reminded me of Samantha Downing's He Started It, which I also found to be average. I was also somewhat disappointed to see Sager use the unreliable female narrator, which I think is overdone in the thriller genre. I think I am still going to talk to others about this book, just to see what they thought of it. Thank you to the publisher for giving me the chance to read this book.

I have read each of Sager's books and always look forward to his new releases each summer! But, I felt as though this book pales in comparison to the rest of Riley Sager's books. Despite this, it is still a very creepy read and had some great twists and turns. It kept me on my toes until the end, I just had a hard time separating this one from the rest of his books. It could be a great book to introduce Sager's writing and the way he writes such creepy and thrilling books!
I did enjoy the use of an unreliable narrator. However, some of the twists were predictable and even if they weren't, I couldn't help but go "really?".
I would still recommend this to people who would like to try Riley Sager, but I will always recommend some of his other books first!

Holy crap this was good. Let me explain that I didn’t know exactly how the story would pan out, I just wanted to tag along for the ride. I dove right in while sitting passenger on a family road trip at NIGHT, and quickly realized I made a mistake.
(For those that have read out, you’ll understand…)
I was literally having heart palpitations, and let me tell you, the first half will suck you in! During our road trip, we were driving around midnight to the next rest stop, on roads with no streetlights and traveling through very rural areas. When they book started getting suspenseful, and there is a particular scene at a rest stop, I was so freaking scared that I think I chewed my lip apart. I wish someone had warned me!
Also, I loved the movie aspect. Charlie is obsessed with movies and all the references were so entertaining. I could tell the author spent a lot of time making this book amazing and I’m so glad I picked it up. I just, wish I would’ve done in the safety of my bed during the day, y’know?? lol
Lastly, can this become a movie please? It deserves it!
Thank you to #netgalley and @Duttonbooks for an advanced e-galley in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a fun book. If you love horror/thriller movies AND books, Survive the Night rolls them both into one in this newest release from Riley Sager.
It reminded me of Scary Movie but in a way to spoof thriller/horror books. I loved the imagery that the main character’s brain functioning turning life and situations into movie scenes and acts played in the storytelling of Charlie trying to move on after her roommate and best friend ends up the most recent victim of The Campus Killer.
If you adore scary stories, you’ll love the way Sager pays homage to the genres tropes and stereotypes in this fun, fast-paced format.
