I saw a part of Cape Cod once so it was fun to visit through Mac’s eyes in Murder at the Taffy Shop. There are good descriptions of the area and they make a nice escape.
This is the 2nd book in the Cozy Capers Book Group series.
Mac and Gin find a dead woman one morning before their walk. Beverly wasn’t well liked and there are several suspects.
The Cozy Caper Book Group gets to work gathering information but things get dicey fast.
Mac is loving her work in her bike shop but faces some personal dilemmas with Tim.
The story is engaging and I like it better than the first. I enjoyed this well crafted mystery. The author did a good job of disguising the murderer.

I was thrilled to return to Westham, Cape Cod, MA, and visit with Mac Almeida and her thriving bicycle shop business in the second book of Maddie Day’s Cozy Capers Mysteries. This book is set in summer and it was welcome respite now in March with winter on it’s last limbs here where I live ... the weather was good, the beach is right there as is the coastal trail, it was just wonderful for travel by book !
Mac’s friend, Gin Malloy, owns Salty Taffy Candy Shop and they power walk together every morning before work. When Gin discovers the lifeless body of a wealthy neighbour, just like in any good mystery a whole bunch of potential suspects make their appearance.
One of the stars of this series is Mac’s African Gray parrot, Belle, and Her talking abilities but after googling the subject it seems entirely within reason for an African Gray and definitely provides some of the best lines ! All characters are interesting and written so you can identify with them, and I definitely like the series regulars. The mystery is complex enough to be so absorbing I wanted to get back to my book but it was a hard week work wise and this book provided excellent entertainment and escape something I love about cozy mysteries. This is a wonderful cozy mystery and I highly recommend it to cozy fans.

This book is published March 30th and I thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for providing me with the opportunity to read it sooner in exchange for an honest review !

This is the second book in the Cozy Capers Book Group mystery series by Maddie Day.

It didn’t really hit me until now what an interesting dynamic Mac’s life must have had growing up with a mother who did astrology and a dad who was a minister. Makes you wonder how the two of them ever hooked up. I have book one of this series in my Kindle but haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. This gives me incentive to do just that.

Great mystery. Lots suspects to keep Mac busy and her mind off her relationship with her boyfriend, Tim, which seems a bit rocky, if I’m honest. And that bird, dang, what a scene stealer! This was quite the page turner!

Just so much to love about this series I can’t get enough.

Highly recommended.

If you like cozy mysteries, definitely check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

Another wonderful book from Maddie Day. When Mac's friend Gin finds a dead woman next to her taffy shop and becomes a suspect in the murder Mac and the whole book club sets out to solve the crime. When it turnes out the deceased had more enemies than friends the group has there work cut out for them. With many twists and turns as well as lovable characters this is a must read book for any cosy mystery lover.

Beverly was a real pest while she was alive and now someone has killed her but it wasn't Gin, who found her body. Mac, our intrepid cozy heroine, sets out to figure out the identity of the villain because she knows her friend didn't do it. Together with Belle, her gray parrot and the members of her book club, she discovers all the reasons why someone wanted to do away with Beverly. Mac owns a book shop and Gin a candy store (recipes!) so there are some, but not too many, details about running a business. Mac has an interesting family (mom, especially); her love interest Tim is turning out to be a dud but what about Lincoln, a detective? There are enough twists to keep you guessing and the storytelling is good. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. I missed the first one and was fine with this as a standalone. For cozy fans.

When a not so kind person is poisoned, it's up to Mac to help clear her best friend Gin of the crime. Likeable characters and a well written plot that keeps you guessing until the ending. And Belle the African Grey parrot is a hoot! Thanks #netgalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

A charming and delightful cozy mystery. As I have an African Grey parrot and know how much fun and entertaining they can be I am probably a tad prejudiced about this book. Cats and dogs are fun additions to cozies, but it is nice to have a bird co-starring for a change. A little rocky romance. Several possible culprits and some exciting moments.

I enjoyed this book. I liked the characters, especially Mac. It's a good mystery and I did not have a clue who the killer was. I liked the ending very much. #MurderattheTaffyShop #NetGalley

I really wondered about the collective intelligence of the local law enforcement officers when Gin becomes the prime suspect when her first meeting was the night before. Yes, Gin did bring the woman a hostess gift, but doesn't have a motive to commit the murder. At the dinner party, there are two other suspects with a motive to kill to kill the woman. And the motive is money. Mac and her book club join forces to find the real murderer. Plus I love how the Amazon Alexa is used in this book. Looking forward to the next in the series.

This is one of those mistakes. I never read out of order but I did on this one, haven't read the first in the series, so I'll have to go back and pick it up. Apologies to all and it cost the book a star, I'm sure.

This isn't the first thing I've read by Maddie Day. Bike Shop, an African Grey named Belle, what else can we have.

Many thanks to Kensington and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

I have never read this series before. This is my first read of this series.

We do get a lot of characters, but the important characters stand out. I did have a harder time tracking all the suspects early on, and especially their connections to each other. Could be the book could have been a distraction in my real life, I don't know. The plot gives us plenty of twists to keep us engaged. The ending was a little abrupt but logical.

I'm normally a fan of Maddie Day, but this A Cozy Capers Book Group Mystery series just missed with me. The plot and characters are just all over the place, and the cultural aspects just confused me. I never thought I'd say this about a Maddie Day book, but I think I'll just pass in the future.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Such a strong second addition to a fabulous series! Quirky characters, a sticky mystery, and a plot that is as well greased as a bike wheel this is a book a reader cannot put down. Definitely a book worth reading!

I enjoyed this book. I love the setting and learning about Cape Verdean traditions and the culture. I also liked the concept of the cozy mystery book club - I'd love to join one! The mystery was well presented and I didn't guess who the killer was. I will definitely continue with the series.

Murder at the Taffy Shop, #2 in the Cozy Capers Book Group series by Maddie Day.
The setting is Westham, a small town on Cape Cod where the tourist season in full swing, with two friends who are business owners--a bike shop and a candy shop--and a shocking murder. The murder is a hot topic for the local book discussion group, which I loved. Mac, the bike store owner, has a home behind her shop,. and a cute gray African parrot. She has some obsessive traits-- which I identified with. Gin, the taffy shop owner is her friend and it is she who discovers the body and becomes the number one suspect.
The writing style easy and moves the story at a good pace. The mystery was well plotted and I didn't guess the murderer until it was revealed . All together, this is a very satisfying read. I am looking forward to the next installment in this series.
Thank to Kensington Publishing and NetGalley for giving me an ARC--which I requested---to read. The opinions expressed are my own. I review books I enjoy so that others can enjoy them, too.

Murder at the Taffy Shop is the second book in Maddie Day's Cozy Capers Book Group Mystery series. What a fun series! It has all of the elements of a good cozy mystery series.

Our amateur sleuth, Mac, owns a bike shop in the small Cape Cod town where she grew up. Her astrologer mother and pastor father live in town as does her half brother who also works in her bike shop. We also get Mac's unstoppable grandmother and her adorable niece, Cokey.

Mac's boyfriend, Tim, owns a nearby bakery. And her friend, Gin, owns a candy shop. Plus Mac and Gin belong to a book group that reads and discusses a new cozy every week. I love that Maddie Day gives shoutouts to real books and authors.

Instead of a dog or a cat, Mac owns the hilarious Belle, a very chatty and smart parrot.

Mac and Gin walk on the beach every weekday before opening their businesses. Until Gin discovers a dead body near her store. The corpse is Beverly Ruchart, wealthy genealogist, bike enthusiast, and disliker of puppies (I knew she was getting murdered when she complained about Cokey's puppy ruining her expensive landscaping).

Unfortunately, Gin is a suspect so it's up to Mac and the other members of the book group to find the real killer.

Maddie Day's created a charming tourist town and peopled it with interesting, likable characters. I enjoyed that Mac and Tim had real-world relationship issues. I loved Mac's family and look forward to seeing more of them in future books. Especially Mac's spunky grandmother.

The mystery of who the killer was kept me engaged. It's always a letdown when I figure it out long before the ending of the book.

Even if you haven't read the first book, this is a great entry point into the series. Murder at the Taffy Shop is a fast-paced cozy with a determined amateur sleuth supported by a quirky group of secondary characters as they solve a puzzler of a murder.
