This is just an OK read. There was not much to the story but I liked the art. It was a quick read and it was nice to look at

It was okay, but I didn't really connect with the characters and it felt like the story didn't progress much. I also get that there will be another volume, but I felt like some elements should have been tied up in the first volume.

it was a simple fast paced graphic novel. However it could have been developed a bit more. adding maybe 50 more pages would have probably done the trick.
the characters were all fairly relatable.
the art was by far my favourite part of the graphic novel. Stunning art with the perfect 80's vibe.

Unfortunately I couldn't read this book as it is ACSM format and it's not readable on both my phone or computer.

However I will give it 2 stars for the amazing cover.

I will review it again in the future!

'Dry Foot' by Jarred Lujan with art by Orlando Caicedo and Warnia Sahadewa is a graphic novel about four friends who have a bold and stupid plan.

This story is set in Miami in the 1980s and four friends decide to steal from a dangerous drug lord. They each have reasons to do it and secrets that the others don't know. When the day of the heist comes, some have cold feet. What happens next is sudden and violent and changes their lives forever.

It was hard to get the feel that this was really the 1980s except for some Miami Vice sort of styles. The story is also a bit slow to start. The first 2 issues could have been condensed and added to a better afterword. The art is pretty solid.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Mad Cave Studios, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

This surprised me by how much of an easy read it was, and how quickly I got through it. This period is something that I personally do not know a lot about, so I liked how this gave us a little bit of an inside look at how things were during this time. I also liked how complex the relationships between everyone in the friend group was and how they all had their own issues that they were battling during this story; it made it really realistic and something that I could actually really see happening.

If you are looking for a graphic novel to read that follows the drug scene, follows friend groups, or is more on the mature side than the middle grade or YA age range, then I would definitely say to give this one a shot.

In Dry Foot, four teens decide in 1980s Miami to rob their local drug lord to escape the neighborhood they fear.

The art is beautiful and probably worth the price of the book. However, the plot has some serious pacing problems. It started slow as if the author thought he had six issues to fill. Beginning with the third of four issues, the plot speed started flying. As if the writer found out his issue order was cut. Still the artwork kept my interest. 3 stars.

Thanks to Mad Cave Studios, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

actual rating: 3.5

There honestly isn't a lot of substance to this book but if you kind of just turn on your suspension of disbelief and enjoy the excellent art I think it's very enjoyable in the way that a mindless action movie is. It could have probably benefitted from having at least 2 more issues but overall it's a fun idea with just slightly subpar execution but I did still have a lot of fun reading it.

Love the art and the color palate, but the story was a bit too rushed and chock full of "surprise" revelations to be compelling. While the characters were more than their archetypes (although it did feel a bit like John Hughes transplanted into Miami), there are some major plot holes around the climax and epilogue that just didn't make any sense.

Dry Foot by Jarred Lujan was a quick and fast and easy read for me. This is a graphic novel so it was a fast that way. This cast is a latino full cast and the only hard part for me was the spanish words so I don't know any spanish but other than that I really enjoyed it and it wrapped up perfectly. But I do feel like this would be a great first book in a series too.... 4/5 stars

Set in Miami during the 80s this is a heist story about kids just trying to get out. The book was a lot of fun.I was invested in finding out how things were going to play out. I think it will be a big hit with my students because they love stories where kids are trying to outsmart adults. I was super impressed by the letters. Every time a new character spoke the dialogue box changed color. This made it super easy to keep track of who was who when they were all talking on walkie talkies. The colors all line up with the character intros and it was the perfect solution to what could have been a very confusing page. I am super excited to see this book on my local shops shelves.

The story of four Latino teenagers in 80's Miami decide to rob a drug dealer. This had some potential. The pacing was very off though for a 4 issue comic. With 4 issues, the writing needs to be very economical about what it does and doesn't include. The first 2 issues have a lot of standing around and hem-hawing followed by 2 issues that are packed with so much happening that a lot of it doesn't make an impact. It's revelation after revelation with no connective material between them. Orlando Caicedo's art is solid for a first time outing.

By the way, the term Dry Foot refers to America's immigration policy for Cubans from the Clinton to Obama administration. If you were caught in the ocean with "wet feet" you were turned away, but if you made it to the U.S. with "dry feet" you were able to apply for asylum. I had to look it up because I wondered what the title had to do with the story.

Okay, first off: this isn’t a bad story, and I really liked the art style. The problem is just that it’s SO short that I felt absolutely no connection to the characters, the whole planning and execution of the heist feels hella rushed and stuff seems to pop out of nowhere since it moves so fast! I would have loved to get more backstory for the four characters, and a much longer buildup to make us actually care about them and what the heist actually means. Because right now they have like 1-2 convos about it and then they are mid heist basically and I just didn’t really care.

Very interesting. This is a great little graphic novel loaded with beautiful artwork and a full-of-life world. I wish it was longer!

I wish I know Spanish because I couldn’t read like 1/3 of the dialogue. Other than that the book was great.

Fast paced, diverse and deep characters. It was really interesting to see into this world that I had no knowledge of before.

I would love to read more about the characters, the time and the situation in general.

First of all the cover is amazing. As an artist I was really drawn to this amazing art and the illustrations did not disappoint. This book was really interesting and fast paced. There was constant action and really kept me reading. My only complaint was it felt a little rushed. But it left me wanting more

Four teens in 1980s Miami plan to do whatever it takes to escape the city that threatens their lives daily. The plan is simple - steal what they need to get out from the person in town thought to have too much for himself, the leader of the most dangerous gang in the city.

This collection of the Dry Foot comics gives exactly the right amount of information needed to learn about the characters, their goals, and what drives them. Quickly catching my emotions and pulling me in, I couldn't put the story down until I got to see how their plan played out. Through bits of intense storytelling and unexpected events, the story's foundation is deeply-rooted in friendship and Hispanic culture.

The art style fit wonderfully with the story by perfectly accenting the settings and dialogue to allow this journey to fully bloom in 95 pages. This was a great read and I would definitely recommend this story to people who are new to or experienced with comics and graphic novels.

Trigger Warnings : gangs, drug abuse, drug dealing, violence, and murder

Starting off my review, I was very surprised by this book. I did not know what to expect going into the book.Even though the opening sequence was a bit bumpy for me, my views of the book changed as progressed further into the story. This is due to how the plot line is seamlessly done that flowed really well enhancing my intrigue to keep reading the book. I loved how unique all four main characters were and the glimpse we got into their different family situations. I wish there could've been some more exploration, but like I said, there was a limited amount of pages available and the storyline worked well to even have any exploration at all.
I really enjoyed the art style. The art was very clean and colorful. I felt that it immediately grabbed my attention and made me want to continue reading. You don't stumble upon own voices stories that often and I'm glad I found this book.
At the end of the day I really enjoyed this book. The story and the art style was gripping and I truly believe many people will enjoy this story regardless of their reading tastes. Though I wished it could have more depth for its characters.

This was my second graphic novel that I have read and I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. The drawings were beautiful but I didn't really connect to the story at at 95 pages I felt it was too rushed. I never quite understood what was going on and was often confused about the switching between each scene as I didn't feel like it flowed like any story and especially graphic novel should. For me the story could have gone to different places to make the reader connect more. It just wasn't for me unfortunately.
