"Britannia's Morass: The Dawlish Chronicles September - December 1884" by Antoine Vanner is a gripping historical novel set against the backdrop of 19th-century Britain. The story follows Florence Dawlish, a strong-willed woman who embarks on a quest for justice after the mysterious suicide of a widow she respects. What initially seems like a straightforward investigation into blackmail and fraud in London's high society takes a dark and complex turn, with Florence facing ever-increasing dangers.

Antoine Vanner's meticulous research and attention to historical detail shine throughout the narrative, immersing readers in the world of Victorian England. The author skillfully weaves together a tale of intrigue, espionage, and political machinations, creating a rich and immersive atmosphere.

Florence is a compelling and resilient protagonist, and her determination to uncover the truth is both admirable and relatable. The supporting cast of characters adds depth and complexity to the story, and their evolving relationships with Florence are a highlight of the novel.

The parallel storytelling with "Britannia's Gamble" provides a well-rounded perspective on the Dawlish family's experiences during this period of history. The bonus short story, "Britannia's Collector," is a delightful addition that adds depth to Nicholas Dawlish's character.

While the story is engaging and well-crafted, some readers may find the intricate plot a bit challenging to follow at times. Nevertheless, "Britannia's Morass" is a captivating historical novel that offers suspense, drama, and a strong sense of time and place. It deserves a solid four-star rating for its compelling characters and vivid historical portrayal.

An enjoyable if at times heavy book!

I have quite contradictory feelings about this book, on one hand, I enjoyed it, it's insightful and atmopshearic and remarkably well written and yet on the other hand I found it quick chunky and heavy - like I said contradictory!

I loved the characters, Florence was a well developed and incredibly likable woman, the villains are incredibly villainous and quite pantomine like you can't help but hate them.

I belive that this is a part of a series and becasue of that I did feel a little lost a t times, maybe I shuld have read the first book before this?

It's a good adventure, and some amazing historical details which will draw you into the Victorian age but I did feel alittle muddled at times.

Britannia's Morass is book number 7 in the Dawlish Series by Antoine Vanner. I picked up this book and immediately was engrossed. I enjoyed the characters, and became excited that I had a whole new series to discover. However, as I went on, I was less and less in love with it. I don't enjoy books that repeat themselves too often or when an author writes down to their readers. The book became very tedious for me and I didn't want to bother with picking it back up after life had interrupted me. I did finish it because I did like the characters, and I would have liked to have Nicholas in the story so I could learn more about him. Alas, he was off on assignment in Sudan. The plot is a good one and it's enjoyable, and not everyone is bothered by the issues I raised. It is always my hope that others truly enjoy a book, even if I didn't. Thank you #NetGalley for the opportunity to give my voluntary and honest opinion of #Britannia'sMorass.

I’m sorry, this is book isn’t my cup of tea. I had high expectations and unfortunately they were not met. The main lead goes through a very emotional and stressful time, I could not feel the words transferred well to me to portray her distress. It got a little boring to be frank.

The cover is okay. That’s the only reason I’m giving this a one star.
