This book is populated by horrible people. Honestly, I can’t imagine living in an atmosphere where everyone is so filled with hate and malice! In the beginning it seemed that there were just a few hate-filled people, but that no one really had any gentleness nor genteelness – just a lack of what we old timers call “social grace”. All the characters were doing their best to take offense and snipe at every other character. And how in the world was [almost] the entire population of this town aware of and complicit in the prevalent illegal activities?

I kept thinking that surely something good would emerge, but by 35%, I gave up hope.

I can’t imagine that anyone would enjoy reading about such goings-on, but I’m sure there are those out there who will enjoy this book. I received it as an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, Compathy Press, in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley, Amy Rivers and Compathy Press for this ARC.

The beginning of this book was good, but started to get a bit boring about 45% of the way through. It's a quick read, and deals with sensitive subjects but it wasn't that interesting to me. I probably won't read book 2.

I’m so sad to say I was not a fan of this book not enough action or suspense, I just wasn’t interested in at all.

Complicit was extremely hard to put down. Pretty fast paced thriller. The title perfectly fits this book. I’m really looking forward to the next one and I’m hoping it picks up where this left off

Loved the characters, topics, style of writing. It addresses heavy subjects with a grace and respect that often difficult to find.

This book was great. I really enjoyed her writing style. Easy and fast to read. I will definitely be checking out more books by this author. This book has some sensitive subjects so it’s not for everyone but they are subjects that need to be addressed anyhow. The twists and turns where great in this one too. Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. I will definitely recommend this one.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Trigger warning: rape, attempted suicide, assault. This story follows Kate, who came back home to help her father after running from her demons. Kate works as a high school psychologist in her hometown when there is a murder of a girl that goes to the school she works at. She has to deal with her estranged relationship with her high school best friend. Through this, she learns a lot about her town, her father and her sister. I was hooked from the very beginning of this. I could not put this down. I read it in a less than a day. This deals with a lot of heavy topics and was really well written.

This book was perfectly titled! It was a very quick read, that hooked me from the start. The book had great build up, but the ending was rushed. I wanted more details and more closure than a few pages worth. Heads up: sexual assault, abuse and similar triggers. Thanks to NetGalley for advanced copy,

A fast read. The main characters Kate and Tilly have interesting specialties in forensic psychology and forensic nursing which made the plot interesting. The book is entirely about sexual assault, underaged rape and human trafficking so definitely be aware of that going in. The ending was quick and a slight cliffhanger but it’s book one in a new series called the Legacy of Silence. I will definitely rejoin these characters when book two comes out.

Trigger warning - sexual assault and attempted suicide.
I was captured by the blurb, describing a girl’s being body found in a burned out car on a creek bed twenty years ago before an another girl is found dead in the modern day.
I didn’t expect to be haunted by the cases and the story of the town.
When Kate, working as a school counsellor, hears about the latest case she is reminded of one of the reasons why she left the town in the first place. Finding the body of the teenage girl in the car pushed Kate to make the decision to leave town almost immediately, not returning until after her mother dies and she finds excuses to stay. When another teenage girl from Kate’s school is found dead in eerily similar circumstances, it is time for Kate to start to look more closely at her home and her community.
The first book about Kate Medina left me wanting to know more. Thank you NetGalley for my review copy,

Kate Medina had been working as a forensic psychologist and loving every minute until a violent attack left her shaken to the core. Retreating to her hometown where it’s safe, she accepts a job where the prospect of violence is slim to none.

Ok so this wasn't really what I was expecting at all! The story is good! I actually enjoyed it..... But as I kept reading it started to fall a bit flat! The main character was hard to like at times! This could have been great it just wasn't what I was hoping for I guess!

NOTE 1: Huge thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

NOTE 2: Contains a spoiler (?)

TW: The book revolves around themes of sexual assault and trafficking of minors.

Complicit is set in a town in New Mexico, where the protagonist, Kate Medina, is employed as a high-school counsellor. The story starts off with the disappearance of a student, Gabby Greene. What follows is a dark, complicated web that reveals troubling truths about the community and the trafficking ring at the heart of it.

The set-up was well done; it established several important plot points regarding Kate's family dynamic, her relationship with her best-friend-turned-stranger-turned-love-interest Roman and the fishy circumstances surrounding the disappearances of girls in the town.

However as the book progressed, it started falling flat. Firstly, I couldn't buy why Kate was so heavily involved in the investigation, especially in the early parts when she wasn't contributing much. It felt a little unrealistic for Roman to confide in her this much about confidential matters.

Secondly, I didn't really care about the characters. Sure, I got to know what they went through but that never translated into me getting to know who they were. They were just means to further the plot and there was never a point when I was rooting for them or their relationships. The love triangle felt like it had just been written in for the heck of it.

Towards the end, a lot was thrown at the reader but never addressed comprehensively. It was too much to process at once and left me with a lot of unanswered questions. But seeing that this is the first book in the series, I hope that the second one gives the reader better answers.

However, I must appreciate that despite its flaws, Complicit handles these sensitive topics and I liked how Kate strictly kept the details about Mandy's assault private when she did not want to talk about it or file a complaint. I also thought that the writing itself was engaging and made me want to read on despite me not buying certain aspects of the plot.

Of those who survived to tell the tale ....or keep the secret

The story takes place in AlamoGordo in New Mexico
We follow Kate and her colleagues in their quest to uncover a long standing crime
Kate is a good listener and so is employed as a counsellor for the local High school
She hears the facts behind the stories she is told but who will listen to her?
Follow along as she endevours to uncover the truth and in doing so, uncovers more about herself and her loved ones than she ever bargained for.

This is very much a tale of
Victims and predators
Traumatised adults
Pressurised and stressed out girls

Many of the side conversations involve conflict and argument

One has to wonder whether Kate is the female student's counsellor only, given that male students never get a mention
and do the perpetrators get what is coming to them?
You'll have to read on to find the answers.

Content Warning: Sex Trafficking, Rape

Complicit is a quick read, however it also reads like a bad fanfic of Law and Order SVU. The characters are flat and undeveloped. All that I really garnered from Kate and Tilly, was that they both suffered extreme trauma and brutality. Roman was one dimensional at best. Many scenes could have been expounded upon, however the author chose to tell and not show, as if she was bored with scene and wanted to hurry it along to the next.

Possible spoilers

This book is fairly brutal in parts, yet before the rape and abuse was mentioned,I didnt feel the book set that tone.
It felt lighter.
I must admit,I rolled my eyes once or twice at the reconnecting with old friend.
I rolled them again for the draught relationship with sister...
It was engaging enough for me to read, quite quickly I might add,to the abrupt end,but I'm not sure I'll be looking for book 2.

her previous life, to moving back to her old town to help with an investigation – this is the starting point, to what I’m sure will a great series. This is the sort of story that could be on Netflix!

The good
Each if the main characters in this book has been through so much, and it is well highlighted in the book. I liked the way the story highlighted several key issues that are relevant in todays society and would look forward to reading more about Kate and her story. Amy Rivers, is an author I will be keeping an eye on

The not so good
As mentioned the characters have been through hell in their previous lives, but I would of like it if their were more characters and to get some background on the “the bad guys”. POTENTIAL SPOLIER (So don’t read on) – the ending was very abrupt – i.e it happened so quick and everything wrapped up, which kind of give me a sour taste at the end.

My final thoughts on this book; I did like the book, and I am glad I read through it, but for me the style did get repetitive throughout i.e Kate goes out and does x comes home to find Y, and this goes on for too many chapters. On the flip side, the chapters are short , so it make this manageable. As I said, I would welcome future books from this series, and would probably read them. ( if it would let me I would give this 3.5 stars)

Let me start by saying that if you can think of a trigger warning, this book should probably have it. It deals with Rape, Abuse, Sex with a minor, sex trafficking, murder.
The book started out with great potential. It started off strong, I didn’t want to put the book down. I was ready for them to catch whoever was doing this to these girls, but as I kept reading -- it got more and more boring and I started to really hate the main character and the ending was just flat.
The book was good but not great. The first third of the book had so much potential. The first few chapters kept the readers at the edge of their seats, wondering what was going to happen next. But it is hard to put into words how I felt about the book a whole, mainly just meh.
I didn’t like the main character, through the whole book people were trying to help her, but she just kept pushing them off and making it about her and how she wanted to solve the issue. I also did not like the ending, mainly because it was absent? There really wasn’t any ending, it was just kind of over. The potential was there for an amazing ending that could leave your mouth dropped open, but it just fell short.
I liked how fast paced the story was. Something was happening at every turn of the page. I also really enjoyed the family aspect, how even though families can seem distant, but there is always something that brings them back together. I felt the love that she had for her father in the beginning of the book, but his character was just left where he died and they moved on.
Overall the book was good and then meh. I wanted so much more from the book, the premise gave so much potential for a kick ass ending with girl power and craziness, but there wasn’t any of it. The romance even fell so flat at the end. It felt like the author just wanted to finish the book quickly and move on.

Kate was focus on her career. Getting into the minds of high school students and helping them if they let her. But her focus was suddenly fazed when things got a little complicated as one of her clients suffers from the divorce of her parents and was traumatized from what happened to her friend. Young girls were disappearing and it seems that no one bats an eye. One girl named Gaddy was burned after she was raped and brutally abused. Is it to destroy evidence or some people are just pure evil. Kate was intimidated but willing to move forward and help to solve the case with her ex-best friend and a policeman named Roman.

Looking for answers that got them into the eyes of the culprit. This is a well-
written story even though some part of It was a bit dark as some of its topics includes rape and
terminal disease. Nevertheless, you won't be bothered by it as they are tackle carefully, just
enough to make the readers thrilled.

I would say this was a delight but it would make me sound a bit gore. Instead, I would like to say
that I enjoy reading it and definitely going to recommend it to Mystery & Thriller story seekers.
