“An Extraordinary Lord” is the third book in the Lords of Armory series by Anna Harrington.

This book features Veronica Chase and Lord Merritt Rivers. Veronica is a shadowy anonymous figure that has a secretive past. On the flip side, Merritt is a straight laced proper guy trying to figure out his life

The story starts with a murder and continues with twists and turns throughout the book. Sarani showed her strength and resourcefulness while Rhys worked through his own personal demons.

I enjoyed this story and enjoyed a different view of colonized India that isn’t glamorous or perfect.

This was my first book by Amalie Howard and it was a good one. I look forward to future bookstores. 📚

*I received this ARC from NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca in exchange for my honest review.

Can a book be scrumptious? If so, that is the word I would use to describe this book. The relationship between Veronica Chase and Merritt, Lord Rivers, is complex and layered with mistrust, longing, and a sizzling chemistry.
In this third installment of the Lords of the Armory, we finally learn more about Merritt’s past and are further drawn into the sinister web of the Scepter. This series is an amazing mix of mystery, intrigue, and romance and this third installment is no exception. Highly recommend this serious to anyone who needs a little life and death intrigue with those romance.

I really enjoyed Merritt and Veronica's story! I just loved watched these two work together to get to the bottom of the riots!

Merritt's book did not disappoint!

Though he and Victoria definitely started with "lust at first sight" vibes, I really enjoyed their back-and-forth, both in banter and sword fighting. And the original name he gives her--which she continues to call him throughout the book--cracked me up every time. The two of them on the page together were truly something else.

There were times that I wished Merritt and Victoria would have done a better job of communicating, though--as much as I love it, witty banter isn't all you need to sustain a healthy relationship and lasting future. (Sword fighting, though, is a definite step in the right direction ;) ) For all of Victoria's angst over them never being able to be together, that part is resolved rather easily which made it seem a bit anticlimatic. All was forgiven when I got to that epilogue, though--OMG, it was perfect!

The drama of the events they are trying to contain add an extra bit of umph to this story--the perpetrators behind it all are the same bad guys as in the first two book, and we get more details about who they are here and how they might hope to achieve their ultimate goal. They are still at large at the book's end, though, with a potential civil war hanging over England...which can only mean one thing. Bring. On. Book. Four!

An Extraordinary Lord is the third book in Ms Harrington's Lords of the Armory series. It *could* work as a standalone, but since the villainous organization subplot continues through each book, readers who enjoy the suspense portion will get more out of the series by reading them in order. Each book centers on a different hero/heroine duo, though, so if you're just in this for the romance, feel free to pick and choose and/or read them out of order. I mean, I'm pretty sure Ms Harrington's going to let good triumph over evil in the end, so there's not too much suspense there... ;)

Rating: 4 stars / B+

Merritt Rivers is a barrister, former soldier and reluctant Baron. He is haunted by the death of his fiance' at the hands of a rioter. Unable to let go of the fact that he failed to save her life, he roams the streets at night looking for her murderer.

Veronica Chase is a beautiful young woman wanted by the law. When Merritt and Veronica meet, they immediately clash swords (literally) and feel an amazing attraction between them. In order for Veronica to gain a pardon, she agrees to help Merritt and his friends in the Armory find who is behind the recent riots in London.

I love Regency romance and Anna Harrington is one of my favorite Regency authors. Her books are so much more than just fancy balls, beautiful dresses and romance. This book is full of intrigue, action, and emotion. The chemistry between the main characters is great and the steamy scenes will have you longing for a cold shower!

If you enjoy Regency romances with a deeper plot, you will love this book. I highly recommend it!

Anna Harrington’s An Extraordinary Lord has one of the most intriguing openings I’ve read in a long time. We immediately learn that the hero has been made a baron and isn’t happy about it. He does tell us what earned him this honor but not why it’s unwelcome. We also learn he’s a barrister who’s hunting an escaped convict the Home Office believes has information about riots that are causing havoc across the city. That’s only part of his goal, however. This assignment gives him cover for prowling London at night on a mission of his own, a personal one driven by old pain.

In short order, he meets the heroine, a female thief-taker, a person who nabs criminals and brings them in for rewards. He first sees her when she’s holding a thief at knife-point. She’s also dressed in trousers and wearing a sword. The attraction between them is immediate and sets up engaging banter that lasts through the book. Both the banter and the attraction continue as they literally fence in a dark alley.

Unfortunately, she reveals her identity, and he arrests her. He offers her a bargain. If she’ll help him uncover those behind the riots, he’ll see that she receives a pardon. If she won’t, she goes back to Newgate. Her situation is more complex than he knows, but she withholds the truth to protect someone important to her.

As they talk, Veronica learns the riots are not merely unhappy people expressing their anger but may have a darker purpose. She agrees to work with Merritt, intending to earn her pardon, keep her secrets, and fade back into the life she knows.

As they work together, the attraction between them deepens into respect, affection, and finally love. The emotional scars that keep them apart are strong and credible, and the story forces them to confront those issues in ways that fit with their established characters. When they finally open up to each other, they begin to grow past their barriers instead of vaulting them immediately after their revelations. They were easy to root for.

Veronica and Merritt work together with his friends as the plot about the riots comes to its head. They thwart the plotters in a clever way that works well within the story.

The tale moves between the London rookeries and the ballrooms of the ton, with information on how London’s poor lived that adds depth and texture to the world. The supporting characters, ranging from Filipe, who offers shelter for those in need in the rookeries and Madame Noir, a brothel keeper, to Merritt’s former army comrades, his friends in the ton, and his barrister father, are well rounded and interesting.

One thing I always consider when I pick up a book that’s part of a series but not the first volume is whether the book is a good jumping-on point. An Extraordinary Lord works well for a new reader, primarily because Harrington offers enough information about Merritt’s friends and their base, The Armory, to make them interesting and sympathetic without bogging down the story with introductions.

I did have some problems with the story. Veronica introduces Merritt to Felipe as someone who needs shelter for his family and can help with the criminal enterprises that fund his sanctuary. Merritt says he’ll move his wife and children in the next day. He never does, and no one ever calls him or Veronica on that. Much is made of how slow Filipe is to trust, but he never questions her on why this supposed new person doesn’t go return to the haven or move his family into it. I would’ve liked to see that addressed in some way, even if it was as simple as Veronica telling Filipe Merritt got a better offer.

I also had difficulty accepting that Merritt, who is obviously well connected in society, needs the unknown Veronica to question a woman about who was using her coach at an important point in the story.

About a quarter of the way through the story, there’s a heavy makeout session in a small boat crossing the Thames even though Merritt and Veronica don’t yet trust each other. Reader preferences vary, but for me, that’s early to be so hot and handsy. Especially since they’re groping each other with the boatman a few feet away.

At one point, Veronica refuses to do what Merritt wants, so he hauls her over his shoulder and spanks her twice. Heroes hauling heroines around physically when they’re not in danger bother me, and I really don’t like heroes spanking heroines who don’t do what the heroes want.

At the end of the book, when the confrontation with the rioters occurs, we’re told the military barricade intended to stop them is placed where certain streets come together. But we’re told nothing about what else is at that intersection, and a reader unfamiliar with London in 1816 has no mental image of the surroundings.

Despite my quibbles, however, I liked the characters a lot and found their story and the series premise engaging. I enjoyed the book overall and recommend it highly.

I received an advance review copy of Anna Harrington’s latest, the third installment of the Lords of the Armory series. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, which focuses on the exploits of Merritt Rivers and Veronica Chase. I found their characters to be engaging, and I enjoyed following their lively banter and the breaking down of their respective barriers over the course of the novel. They were evenly matched on so many levels, which I loved, and I enjoyed the continuation of the plot of the previous two novels in the series. I look forward to Anna Harrington’s novels so much, her writing is vivid and helps to transform me directly into regency-era London, which is a welcome distraction, now more than ever.

I loved this story so much. Unexpected witty and quirky heroine , a hero that has to decide what’s more important for him; his heart or his principles, a sizzling chemistry and a romance that fulfils my heart overall.

Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy

I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me through NetGalley. This book was just absolutely wonderful. It was just so easy to get lost in and I just couldn’t put it down. I just lost myself within this amazing story. I most definitely will read more by this author.

I wish I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoyed the other books in the series. The love story between Merritt and Veronica was one that I thought I would enjoy. There were aspects that I enjoyed in their love story and they worked good together but I guess I was looking for something more. I just did not see the deep connection between them. The writing and the storytelling was great.

This is the third book in the series about the Armory, set up by a group of friends and returning veteran officers to aid their men in returning to life in London. It is a sanctuary for the men who the government has abandoned. They also have the mission to find and destroy Scepter, a criminal organization, whose goal is to take over the government.

This book focuses on Merritt Rivers, barrister and Baron by day and a city guardian at night. His fiancée had been murdered by a rioter, shortly before their wedding. That is what then drove him to the Army and now keeps him on the streets at night, to protect the innocent but also to look for her murderer. It is on one of these nights that he comes upon Veronica Chase, falsely accused and sentenced to prison, from which she escaped. She is a thief taker and skilled with sword, knives and recon among others, skilled honed in her native Portugal, before she became a refugee. Merritt blackmails her into helping him find the people behind the resent riots, but working together their feelings for each other grow, because this is a romance story after all.

This book as the previous ones has vivid descriptions, intriguing characters and wonderful historic background exploring the social issues of the day, how the poor and especially women fared in society and the corruption of the government (which seems to be timeless). I read an ARC provided by NetGally.com. this is my unbiased and voluntary review.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book. This book ended up not being for me. I found it hard to connect with the war elements in this book. But I know many other will enjoy book 3 in this series.

Two people who are considerably more than they appear each fight in their own way for what they believe in. When they join forces, the sky is the limit in love, life and uncovering plots within the criminal underbelly. Anna Harrington’s “An Extraordinary Lord” is the third exciting installment in her Lords of the Armory Series. Loving this series and highly recommend for those readers looking for more than just another ballroom scene.

I have mixed feelings with Anna's works, I really wanted to like this one, but It wasn't for me. I don't like war- themed stories, and this was full of mysteries and suspense and emotional baggage.

I liked the developed romance between main characters but this was a slow read for me.

This is an amazing book. It’s full of non-stop action and richly written characters that jump off the page. The descriptions of London, from the back streets and alleys of the rookeries, to the salons and ballrooms of the ton are full and life-like, making me feel as if I was living in this story, not just reading it. I loved the bantering and word play between Merritt and Veronica, and the way neither gave nor took any leeway to the other. From their initial swordfight to the final page, they were equally matched and worked that way. It was refreshing and entertaining. This was a delightful book that was both fast moving and highly entertaining. Definitely a five-start read.

I've read all of the books in the Lords of the Armory series. I can recommend them all. My favorite so far has been An Extraordinary Lord which is Merritt and Veronica's story. The storyline and the main characters are the reason I enjoyed this particular title the best. A former soldier and a brave woman with a secret past find love while trying to quell rioting mobs. I received a copy of the book provided by the author via NetGalley and chose to leave a review.

This was such a great read. I started it on the beach and got such a sunburn because I couldn't put it down. It is THAT kind of book. The story starts with Merritt, the hero, who is a barrister of some renown and a newly minted Baron, because he saved the Prince Regent's mistress. Our hero spends his nights haunting the streets for rioters. He is also looking for something from his past that he needs to take care of before he can move on. This night, however, he meets her, Veronica, a thief taker. Who fights almost better, no she fights better than he does. After he hears her full name, he has to arrest her because she is an escaped prisoner from Newgate. He works with a secret agent group and he promises her redemption in the form of a pardon if she helps him find and stop the riots. She doesn't hesitate and takes him up on it.
This story is based on the mean streets of London, about 1816. It also moves over into ballrooms and soirees. What made this book stand out was the gritty realness of the story and setting. There was a lot of intrigue and a mystery to solve. I believe this was part of a series, but I haven't read any others, that I recognized, and it was a darn good story. I liked the style and development of the plot and characters. The supporting characters made sense and weren't just plunked in to make the story longer. This was a strong story that really met my expectations. 5 stars all day long and I recommend reading.
