An Extraordinary Lord by Anna Harrington is book Three in the Lords of the Armory Series. This is the story of Veronica Chase and Merritt Rivers. While I have read the previous books in the series, I do believe this book is just as enjoyable as a standalone.
Merritt and Veronical were both interesting characters with well developed plots. Highly recommend!

An Extraordinary Lord is book three of the Lords of the Armory series by Anna Harrington and if you haven't started this series, you definitely should. I recommend starting with book one before diving in because there is a storyline that is threaded throughout all of these books and if you pick this one up first, you are going to miss some critical points of the story. With that said, each book focuses on different characters and this one is focused on Lord Merritt Rivers and Veronica Chase who happen to be on different sides of the law.

Veronica is an interesting character. She confessed to a crime to keep her adopted brother out of prison but Merritt doesn't 100% believe she is innocent (at first) and she isn't about to go out of her way to prove herself to him. As they build an alliance to protect the people of London from the rioters, they realize how attracted they are to each other despite their supposed differences.

Definitely consider picking this series up. I look forward to the next book in the series to see what comes next for these Lords and their Ladies.

An Extraordinary Lord by Anna Harrington is book Three in the Lords of the Armory Series. This is the story of Veronica Chase and Merritt Rivers. I have read the previous books which did help my enjoyment of this book but this is a standalone book.
Merritt after losing someone he cared for he took off to get a commission in the army. Now in his present day he is still fighting to keep the law but in a different way back home. With Riots busting out rampantly he has turn his attention to that along with a women he happens to meet during one of them. Veronica has not had a easy time of it but has worked to protect those who are in need of it which has lead her to some interesting situations. I am a fan of this author so for me this was a page turning read just as the books of the past that I have read. I do highly recommend this book and this author's writing.

In the third book in the Lord of Armory series, the men of the Armory continue their battle against Scepter's evil plans. Merritt Rivers, newly appointed Baron and solicitor, spends his nights prowling the streets trying to keep others safe and escape his haunting past. One night while hunting for an escaped convict and clues to the origins of riots that have been breaking out all over the city, Merritt has a run in with mysterious thief-taker Veronica Chase, who also happens to be the convict he was searching for. What follows is an intense battle of both words and swords between the two, where possibly for the first time, each meets their match. I have to say this is one of the best first encounters between main characters that I've read in a while. I liked how balanced the relationship felt in terms of personality and how well their knowledge and experiences complimented each other. I also enjoyed how much depth and thought the author has given to the villainous Scepter organization, as often in romances the bad guy(s) is often not very complex and relatively easily beaten, but for this series it seems as if the good guys truly have a worthy adversary to face off against. I can't wait to see what evil plan they come up with for the heroes to thwart in the next book!

I received a complimentary copy for my honest review from the author and publisher.

London 1816
He was hunting an escaped convict at night. She was on a mission to catch her own criminals and when he came upon her, she had a large man pinned against the wall with a knife at the man's throat.
"Thank you for coming... she called out, but I'm not in need of rescue." "And you are..? he said"
"Rich man, poor man, beggar man.. thief... taker."

He'd never seen a female like her.. magnificent! Wowza, can I say Anna Harrington had me in the palm of her hand with this first meeting and the witty banter zigging back and for between them!

With both having secrets, adventure, suspense, a villian and amazing characters, with a steamy attraction, you will be transported to 1800 London and not come back until the end!

This is a wonderful series! It is so much more than a historical romance. It has intrigue, mystery, class differences, strong female characters and more. I can't say enough good about it. This is a female swordsmith thief-taker from London's slums and a war hero Lord who roams the streets at night looking for justice. Such desperate individuals looking for peace and never finding it until the a forced to work with each other. It is a finely crafted story that gives us more clues as to secret society Scepter trying to bring down England's monarchy it sees as corrupted. I loved every minute of it and can't wait for the next story.

Lord Merritt Rivers is a solicitor by day and because of insomnia he roams the streets by night. He's trying to catch bad guys before they hurt innocents. He's frustrated with his daytime job as it deals with the criminals after the fact. His fiance was murdered in a riot they got caught up in and he's ultimately seeking the man who killed her. Riots have once again hit the London streets and he and his former military brothers are seeking to bring an end to the violence. When Merritt runs across Veronica Chase catching a thief one night they end up crossing swords and he finds someone who is his equal on the streets. When he arrests her he takes her to the Armory where Major Clayton Elliott of the Home Office is waiting and they make a deal. She'll help them find the instigators of the riots and he'll give her a full pardon for the crimes she's been found guilty of. She took the fall for her adopted brother to keep him from prison. He's the leader of an underground gang of Robin Hoods who help support the poor in the slums.

I loved watching these two work together. She's so intelligent and quick while he's so passionate about stopping evil doers. Together they are a force to be reckoned with whether in the dockside pubs or the grand balls of the ton. It was a delight to watch Merritt puzzle out who she was in her heart and how she came about her unique skills. He can't help himself in falling in love with this woman who was in every way his equal. Just delightful! The next story seems to be Major Clayton Elliott's chance for love and she appears to be a high end brothel madam!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I REALLY WANTED TO LOVE THIS BUT THE AWFUL FACT IS THAT I JUST DIDN'T

The first book in this series was SO amazing! One of my favourite historical romance reads ever. So perhaps I had too high hopes for the rest of the series. But the fact remains that since that first book, none of the rest have impressed me. And this one, the 3rd in the series, least of all.

👎 What I Disliked 👎

Lust: Our two MCs, Merrit and Veronica, have an instant attraction but as far as I am concerned, it never moved past lust. I didn't feel any romance between the two, only raw attraction.

Repetition: This story repeated itself time and time again. Either there was fighting or there was sex. Very little else happened.

No depth: This felt like a smoke and mirrors situation. There's a lot going on all the time - with the sex and the action - but underneath that there really isn't all that much to get into. There's hardly any emotions or plot at all, so it just felt slightly shallow.

Characters: Shallow is, coincidentally, also the word I would use to describe the characters. At least in the sense that didn't feel that fleshed out. They felt glossed over and without any content.

The moment Merritt and Veronica clash swords, I was hooked. This is an exciting action-packed story with some very interesting characters. Merritt and Veronica don’t admit it at first, but they are a match. Both are courageous, street smart, and skilled fighters. The chemistry between them is hot. They both have secrets and pain from the past. It’s possible they can help each other heal. For now, they work together with Clayton Elliot to gain information about the riots, who is financing them, and of course, Scepter. Their search takes them to taverns, a brothel, and the Regent’s ball. All the while, they are falling for each other. By the end of the story, the Lords of the Armory still have not discovered the mastermind of Scepter, but they have taken some of the operatives, and they know what the ultimate goal is. This one is definitely hard to put down. I highly recommend it and the series.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

This was a fun and sweet continuation of this series. I’m really enjoying the military heroes and their bada** women! Veronica might be my favorite heroine of this series so far. I loved her background story and how hard she worked to take care of the people her and her brother protected.

One of the most fun parts was right in the beginning when the hero (Merritt) arrests the heroine (Veronica). Then, he blackmails her into helping him take down a very bad group of aristocrats. Since I don’t think the series is over, I’m not sure they succeeded in taking down Scepter, but we shall see. 😈

I will admit it felt a bit too insta-love, but not everyone is bothered by that. I just wish the timeline had been longer to make it feel more realistic that they were truly in love by the end.

As far as steaminess, I would give it a solid🔥 🔥 🔥 out of five. Not smoldering hot, but there were still some great steamy scenes!

All-in-all, I definitely plan to continue this series and make my way through the author’s backlist.

True enemies-to-lovers romances are both less plentiful than many readers would like and extremely hard to execute. Too much hostility and things can get ugly; too little tension and the whole thing fizzles. Demand for this popular trope tends to outstrip supply. But where others falter, An Extraordinary Lord handily succeeds, in large part because of its original premise. Its leads are natural enemies with real skin in the game and the stakes are sky-high.

Wow, this was another great adventure in this series of finding the group Scepter. Even if you haven’t read the first 2 books in the series you will love this one. It is filled with surprise, action suspense, humor and romance. This couple were just perfect for each other as neither fitted in with the Ton. Ms Harrington knows how to tell a tale and make you feel like you are there. I would love to see this in a movie. There was of course a few sex scenes which this reviewer skipped as usual but it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the story. I received this as an ARC and freely give my review.

Thief?

Merritt (of course he's named Merritt) is a newly minted baron, though he's more of a regency batman. of a sorts.
When he first meets Veronica Chase, he arrests her after engaging in a fencing match. He's a law and order kind of guy, though he takes the law into his own hands.

Veronica Chase is a dichotomy. She's nobility, but took the fall for someone, now, she's making her own way in the world by her wits and fists. Thief? She's a conundrum Merritt is fascinated by. Don't worry, she can hold her own. She has her own code and is sort of a regency Robin Hood.

Snappy dialog, matches their physical interactions. I can make a pun about thrusts and parry, but I'll refrain.
Recommend.

I liked Merritt and Veronica and I really enjoyed reading their story. This is the third book in this fun series while I think you could enjoy this book quite easily on its own, personally, I recommend you read the full series and in order because there is an overarching story unfolding throughout. Action, excitement, intensity and intrigue give the storyline a sharp edge that dazzles as it captures and keeps your attention. On the romance side of things, I felt this couple worked very well together. I felt that their differences were offset nicely by the surprising similarities they shared and I found it easy to feel for them both. You can expect plenty of emotions, inner turmoil, humor, drama, heat and heart as this couple strives to work through their baggage, let go of their pasts and find the courage to open their hearts to love. I am electing to post a forthright review.

OMG I absolutely adored this book! Anna Harrington is one of my favorites romance writers and she never disappoints!! I read almost all of her books and this one is in my top three.
Soldier turned solicitor Lord Merritt Rivers has dedicated his life to upholding the law. He patrols the streets faithfully, hoping to stop crimes before they can happen. While hunting an escaped convict, he encounters a woman also hunting thieves. She's a delicious distraction, until he discovers that she is the criminal he's after. She's smart, challenging, and everything he finds attractive, but he cannot trust her.
Veronica Chase has hidden her past as a nobleman's daughter. She confesses to a crime to keep her adopted brother out of prison. She now lives in London's underworld, trapped between worlds, belonging nowhere.
Forming an uneasy alliance, Veronica and Merritt work together to protect innocent Londoners during the city's riots. Moving between her world and his, they grow closer to each other and to the mob's dangerous leaders. But their newfound trust won't be enough, until each face their demons and ask what's worth saving—the lives they've chosen to lead or the love that leaves them yearning for more.

I was not sure about Veronica, “Roni”, at the beginning of the book. I don´t usually enjoy stubborn characters, but she was an amazing surprise. She is fierce and brave, but also so human, so real. Merritt´s past broke my heart. Together they were just marvelous. This story is compelling, emotional, sweet, hot all al the same time. So so good!!

Anna Harrington's Lords of the Armory series just keeps getting better and that is no easy feat!

In An Extraordinary Lord Ms. Harrington takes readers further into the intrigue of a treasonous secret society called Scepter leaving the saving of England in the hands of a few brave men and women. From the start of this story there was little rest for readers as clues and action mixed with heated attraction. Setting off a series of events, an unexpected encounter between Lord Merritt Rivers and Veronica Chase drove this story and sealed their fate.

Well matched, this couple kept up their interest in each other and their audience as their interactions required them to traverse places ranging from rookeries to the ballrooms of Regency England. Merritt was a man carrying tremendous guilt and lack of closure from a horrific past event. Veronica was a fighter and fought with her demons from her past. As this couple navigated their personal issues and their attraction this work moved quickly. The wit and verbal foreplay in this story was rapier sharp!

Anna Harrington’s stories always have thoughtful exchanges that move her plots like the pieces of a chessboard, she is always one step ahead of her audience building up the suspense and anticipation. In true Anna Harrington fashion her research was impeccable as it seamlessly blended into a captivating story. Period appropriate issues involving women and the showcasing of strong women continue to take a prominent role in this writer's work. Don’t expect a tame walk in the park with the Lords of the Armory in An Extraordinary Lord, there is danger lurking behind every chapter and a kiss to make it better, well done Anna Harrington, a recommended Jenerated Review read!

The third book of the series continues with the tale of another member of the Lords of Armory, a spy intelligence in service to King and country and it's brimming with action and passion.

Merritt Rivers a former soldier, a Baron, a solicitor, a spy and a man on a mission. He upholds the law and keeps watch over London streets at night.

Veronica Chase, a thief-taker, an escaped convict from Newgate, is also on a mission, to avoid the gallows, for the crime she didn't commit.

Anna Harrington gave us a glimpse of Regency London -the factual and fictional - the Gordon Riots; the Corn Laws; Scepter, a criminal organization; Armory, a spy organization, among others. With the protagonists navigating between the underbelly and the ballrooms of London.

A deal to benefit one another was struck. But visceral attraction to each other made the alliance fraught. This makes this narrative so deliciously exciting.

The back stories of Merritt and Veronica are harrowing. These make them endearing.

I can highly recommend every single book written by Anna Harrington. This narrative is one of my favourites.

This can be enjoyed as a standalone. A five star read.

An Extraordinary Lord by Anna Harrington

I thoroughly enjoyed this romance novel. Veronica and Merritt start off as enemies but turn into steamy lovers. Their story is full of action, adventure, and romance. I can see myself reading this one again.

I received an e-ARC of this book and this in no way affected my opinion of it.

My first time reading this author, and I loved the way this book is written! It was a really good book, the sexual tension between our couple was amazing and the only really issue I see with it, is that the outside plot (the strikes and such) took too much of the story towards the end. But I still loved it and I'm curious to read the other books in the series! The hero was amazing and the heroine was lovely, and they balanced each other well.

Moving between her world and his, they grow closer to each other and to the mob's dangerous leaders.
The third book in this page turning series, it’s easily read on its own. I’ve liked Merritt in the earlier books & quickly grew to love him in this book, he’s a man of many parts, barrister, night time vigilante & member of the Armoury, he's also still carrying the guilt of not saving his fiancée from an attack. Veronica is strong, feisty, intelligent & has secrets. I loved how their relationship developed & the formidable team they made. The pace is fast & I found the pages flew by. A very well written engrossing read & now eagerly await the next book
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
