OMGoodness! What an exciting, wild ride this was! With non-stop action, engrossing mystery, and fascinating characters you’ll find yourself totally unable to put this book down. Seriously, don’t start reading it in the evening if you need to get up the next morning! While this book can be read as a standalone, to get the full understanding and enjoyment of the overarching story of the series, you’ll want to read them all.

Rioting has become rampant in London and it is getting more and more violent. The Home Office and the men of the Armory are sure that Scepter is behind the riots just as they have been behind all of the plots in London over the last while. As they investigate more, they learn the ultimate goal of the Scepter organization – just not WHO is behind it. The goal is diabolical and if it is successful, it will be the end of everything England is and everything it stands for.

Merritt Rivers had a life-altering tragedy in his life five years ago and it has driven his every move since then. He immediately left London and bought himself a commission in the army where he spent the next several years fighting Napoleon. He used those years to hone his fighting skills and now that he has returned, he prowls the night looking for the man who changed his life. When he finds him …

Merritt is a gifted barrister, and now he has become a blasted baron thanks to Prinny. He is, essentially, two men – one who upholds the law and fights for justice during the day – and another who prowls the lowliest neighborhoods in London by night. He’s also a member of the Armory, a group of returned soldiers who are still fighting for England – just behind the scenes. On one of his nightly prowls, he hears raised voices and heads toward them – only to find a woman, dressed as a man, holding a thief at bay. Not only is she dressed as a man, she is wielding a sword and is armed to the teeth with knives. She asserts she is a thief-taker – which, of course, is ridiculous. Women aren’t thief-takers. Then – shock of all shocks – he discovers she is the escaped convict the Home Office has asked him to find. Uh-Oh! He apprehends her and takes her to the Armory. This woman is all of the things he despises – primarily, a criminal.

Veronica Chase’s life has changed dramatically in the last ten years and she’s escaped from the war-torn continent to London to try to make a life for herself. What she has certainly isn’t anything close to what she had, but it is the best she can do. She does her best to protect the innocents who live at the Court of Miracles with her. She even confessed to a crime she didn’t commit in order to help keep them safe. She managed to escape Newgate after six months imprisonment and she’ll never, ever go back there – even if it means working with the infuriating man who has just apprehended her.

We’ve already met and loved Merritt in previous books in the series and now we get an even better understanding of him and what drives him. Now, we meet Veronica Chase and you will absolutely LOVE her. She’s extremely talented, smart, wise, strong, and resilient – all without any of those TSTL moments we see in most of the female leads we read. I admired her pragmatism and tenacity as well as her fighting prowess and street-smarts. She was definitely as formidable as Merritt and they made a perfect match for each other

I highly recommend this entire series – and definitely this book. It is well-written, excellently plotted, and perfectly paced. Of course, having visits from the characters featured in the first two books was a bonus. I can hardly wait to see what happens next and how the group will finally put an end to Specter.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was an intriguing, passionate historical romance. I liked that Veronica was fierce, playful and kind. She is comfortable in the underworld and guards her secrets. It isn't until she meets Merritt that she's tempted to be more than just an honorable thief. While I admire her resolve and understand the need to rise above her life station so she can be with the man she loves with the stain of her past, I still feel that Veronica gave it up to this man too easily and become too docile the more she became infatuated with him.
Overall, a decent romance, plenty of steam to keep me interested.

Merritt is a solider turned solicitor who does anything to uphold the law.
Veronica is a bastard daughter of a nobleman convicted of a crime she never committed.
Together they form an uneasy alliance working together to protect Londoners during the riots.
This is a poignant story which makes you want to laugh and cry.
Anna Harrington writes a sumptuous romance book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

This was an extremely fun read!

Merritt and Veronica’s chemistry had me hooked from their first duel, and the rest of the book only continued to keep me interested.

The banter was witty and the storyline was interesting, I would recommend this one to friends who are looking for historical romance with action.

Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I like the idea of Veronica being a Thief taker. She's vicious but also has a vulnerable side. Merritt believes her to be guilty of a crime yet he's not constantly throwing it in her face. I really enjoyed reading, An Extraordinary Lord.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Merritt Rivers is a returning soldier that has returned to London as a solicitor. At night he patrols the underworld. Veronica Chase maneuvers between the aristocracy and the rookeries, not belonging anywhere. Together they form an uneasy alliance and a fiery attraction. The connection between the charismatic couple is earth-shattering. Their attraction burns as bright as their mistrust.

The plot married the action, romance, and passion perfectly. Both Merritt and Veronica were tragic, haunted characters driven by ghosts and revenge that almost ruins them. The dialogue was smoldering, sexy, and sizzling! The dynamic between the couple was mesmerizing. The plot went at a lightning pace and kept my rapt attention. From street fighting, riots, and ballrooms, this swoon-worthy story had it all.

Anna Harrington has the brilliant ability to write organic, original characters that sparkle and shine! Veronica is a strong sensual woman that is more than a match to any man when it comes to a battle of wills or fighting. Merritt is flawed and damaged yet vulnerable to Veronica at the same time. I loved everything about the plot, sometimes so much was packed into a chapter, I had a hard time keeping up. The secondary characters and locations helped bring this lush novel to life. It was an exciting, heartbreaking, joyous journey. There are no critiques to a beautifully written romance.

Lots of action, adventure, and steamy romance in Anna Harrington’s third book in the Lords of the Armory series. Both main characters have had a really rough time in the last decade or so (like, really tough - like losing your loved ones tough), so trust comes easy to neither of them. But I appreciate that they don’t play cat and mouse - they work together and respect each other sooner than you’d think. This book is just a lot of fun and I truly enjoyed it.

Anna Harrington has done it again! Honestly, she is the most underrated historical romance writer. She's incredible. I've loved every single book I've ever read by her. I could gush forever.

Now on to the review. Merritt Rivers is a barrister by day, a criminal hunter by night. After failing to protect his fiancé from angry mob five years ago, he roams the streets at night looking for her killer and helping the innocent people of London. Veronica Chase pled guilty to a crime she didn't commit to save her found family. She escaped from Newgate and is now a thief taker. She must survive on the streets of London with her mercenary skills (you learn her background towards the end of the book). Both of the main characters are brought together during a swordfight in a London alley. When Merritt realizes who she is, he has no choice by to arrest her. He offers her a pardon if she will help infiltrate London's underworld and help him stop the riots that are popping up in the city. Together, they make an amazing team. Respect soon follows, then lust, then absolute love. Harrington is the master of character evolution.

Seriously, I don't know where to begin to show my love for this book (and series!) The three men of the series are best friends and served in the army together. While this book--the third one--can definitely be read as a standalone, I would highly recommend the other two books, simply because they're amazing as well.

Merritt stands out for me as a hero. A lawyer by day, masked hero by night. He's lean, strong, smart, sexy, funny, and passionate. His quest to avenge his late fiancé's killer is torturous. It's driving him slowing insane, this need to capture the man responsible. Veronica is GOALS. She is my absolute favorite kind of heroine--tough as nails, intelligent, an actual fighter, independent, loyal, sex-positive--the list goes on and on. We see the sexual tension between the two from the very beginning. Lust eventually turns into respect, and respect eventually turns into an all-consuming love. It's a beautiful thing to watch unfold.

One of my favorite things about this book (and the other ones in the series), is the action-plot element. Whoa, can Anna write an action/romance! All three of these books could easily be a movie. Harrington does a wonderful job balancing action with romance, emotion with lust. I could feel Merritt's pain, and I could feel Veronica's desperation. By the end of the book, I felt like I was actually there. I loved every single page.

I would give this book 5 BIG stars and urge everyone to read her back catalog, as well as this series. Of course, Harrington could write the phone book and I'd read it.

Anna’s writing flows so smoothly and the stories are so riveting that her books are hard to put down. This is my favorite one in the series. The tension (physical, mental and sexual) between Merritt and Veronica is so prevalent in the story you might need a fan or to take a break. Holy cow! The dialog is out of this world with its laugh out loud moments and its devastatingly sad moments. In some stories the characters are not true equals, yes the women are always strong, but in this story I felt they were truly on the same plane. They work together, respect each other (albeit reluctantly) and of course, love each other with all of their hearts. I could go on gushing about how much I loved Merritt and Veronica.

Okay, did I catch a glimpse of a new series? What about Clayton? What about Madame Noir? Inquiring minds need to know.

Readers will fall in love with Anna Harrington. If you are a fan of historical romance, you should have her on your "must read" list. This book is no exception.

While out patrolling the streets one night as luck would have it, Lord Merritt Rivers comes upon a woman who wields a sword as good as he can. Then he finds out her name and knows she is the key to helping him solve the mystery of who is creating riots in London. Their story is one you won't want to miss!

Well, Merritt and Veronica have one of the most exciting how-we-met stories to tell. No arranged marriage or I saw her across the ballroom here. Merritt is patrolling the streets in the middle of the night, looking for an escaped convict for the home office when he runs across Veronica holding a sword to the chin of a miscreant. She is dressed as a man with knives strapped to her arms. They decide to have a sword fight to test each others skills. Merritt Rivers is a new Baron, a Barrister by day, and an agent for the Home Office. Veronica Chase is an escaped convict, mercenary, thief-taker, and by-blow of a Portuguese Count. Mysterious riots are breaking out around London and Veronica will be given a pardon if she performs reconnaissance to track the movements of the criminal organization, Scepter, thought to be the instigator behind the upheaval. Merritt and Veronica join forces to stop a Revolution with help from the men of the Armory. Someone is trying to overthrow the Regent and must be stopped. A King's Counsel falling in love with a criminal? Impossible! Or is it? This exhilarating installment to the mystery of Scepter and the men of the Armory will keep you turning the page.

The Extraordinary Lord
by Anna Harrington

Merritt Rivers had just been told; he was receiving a Barony for an act of heroism. He was not happy.
He was also a Barrister. His nighttime career was trying to protect people. He met Miss Veronica Chase on a night foray. She is a Thief taker. She is also a very dangerous woman with sharp weapons.
I love this story, it is different, action-filled, and full of surprises. He feels he can't trust her and won't share his feelings and what he actually does. There are a lot of twists, betrayals, killings, lies, and incompetent men. Merritt's friends are special. They served during the war and luckily, they all came back. But they kept their fingers on the pulse of government. Roni and Merritt worked together trying to answer the questions they were taxed with. It is an exciting story and with so much happening, it definitely keeps your attention.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

Just who is Miss Veronica Chase? Is she a thief? A thief-taker who supports others with her earnings? Or a well educated well born woman from a foreign country? Merritt Rivers is as much of a conundrum. Is he a barrister? A newly minted baron? Or a night time vigilante who is still mourning his fiance? Of course, they meet at night. From their first meeting this story takes off. The Lords of the Armory are on a mission to find out who is behind the riots that are plaguing London. They know that Specter is involved but who is behind this seditious organization? This series is turning out to be one of my favorite Anna Harrington series, and I have loved them all. The characters are a bit wounded, strong, but really need each other, true friends. This is an exceptional book in an exceptional series.

I love that this book is in the seedier part of London. There are a few ball scenes, but it also showcases the hard life for the underprivileged. Merritt is full of pent up emotions that makes him seek out the more dangerous aspects of London, which is where Veronica lives as a thief taker. When there paths cross.... fireworks! Wonderful book, will not disappoint!

An Extraordinary Lord is the third instalment in the Lords of the Armoury series and I think it may be the best book yet. This series just keeps getting better and better. Lord Merritt Rivers is a former soldier who patrols the streets at night seeking vigilante justice. One night he meets Veronica Chase, a thief taker in the process of apprehending a criminal. The tables end up being turned and Merritt arrests Veronica, in exchange for her help with the latest scheme by Scepter Veronica will receive a pardon for her criminal record.
There is a lot of action and humour in this book, it draws you in from the very beginning. Both Merritt and Veronica are such amazing characters. Veronica is a really strong heroine, she has serious fighting skills and takes care of all the people in her life. One of the best things about this series are the strong female characters.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Lord Merrit Rivers is a complicated character--a former soldier, distinguished barrister and a vigilante patrolling the streets of London trying to stop crime before it happens. The night he runs into thief-taker, Veronica Chase, he has no idea his life is going to change forever. Veronica Chase does whatever she could to help those who depend on her, but when she's caught by Merrit Rivers, she has no choice but to cooperate with his investigation of the recent London riots or face going back to prison.

This book starts off with an exciting dance of swords between Merritt and Veronica and their sexual tension keeps heating up throughout the book. I really loved both characters, flawed though they may be. It makes them more relatable. Ms. Harrington crafts an exciting mystery surrounding the London riot plot. There are many twists and turns in the book and some that totally surprised me. I love this series!

I have read the other two books in this series but for some reason this one felt a little flat. It still had a great plot and action but it just didn't make me want to stay up late to finish reading in one sitting.

Lord Merrit Rivers is a distinguished barrister by day and vigilante by night, prowling the streets of London to protect the innocent citizens. Veronica Chase is a woman with many secrets she is running from who is currently a thief taker by night, also trying to rid the streets of criminals. Veronica and Merrit meet one night completely by chance when Merrit realizes she is the criminal he's been looking for.

They work out a deal, if she helps him bring down the group of people responsible for the riots that are threatening all of London he will clear her name and give her freedom from the law. They fight a powerful attraction for each other while trying to stop the violence tearing their city apart while also trying to keep a few jaw dropping secrets from each other.

I really enjoyed this book, it had one of the most exciting and intriguing opening chapters that I've read in a historical in a long time. The sexual tension between Merrit and Veronica was scorching, and the vulnerabilities they allowed each other to see was deeply emotional.

I do think the plot overtook the romance a bit during the last 20% of the book but other than that this was nearly perfect.

Steamy, mysterious, swoony. A delightful historical romance!

This is the third book in the Lords of the Armory Series. This is a fun, adventurous read with characters that are adversaries who become lovers. I have enjoyed this series of books as each take you on a different couples story while searching for the evil group that is behind bad things happening in London. It is fun to see the characters from the former books make an apperance in the new story lines and to see the development of the overall story of the series. In this story we follow Lord Merrit Rivers, a barrister and new baron, who encounters Veronica Chase, an escaped convict who didn't commit the crime for which she was accused, in the streets of London. As the story unfolds we learn what is driving both of the characters and what finally draws them together in the end. I like that the female characters in these books are all strong women and stand up for themselves and the things they believe in and that they find men who support those beliefs and only wish to help them achieve their goals. I look forward to reading more books in this series and also more of the books by Anna Harrington.

Thank you for the Advance Reader Copy. All of the above is my own feedback about this book.

This book was such a different type of historical romance. Here we have Lotd Merrit Rivers, who wants to uphold the law, getting involved with Veronica Chase, who is living in London’s underworld after taking the blame for her brothers crime. She agrees to a pardon in exchange for helping Merrit find the leaders of dangerous attacks against the city.
This is the third book in the Lords of Armory series. I have not read the previous books and still enjoyed this book immensely. I will go back to read the previous books because I really enjoyed Anna Harrington’s storytelling style. The characters are complex and the story moves at a brisk pace.
Merrit and Veronica have an immediate attraction that only increases as they work together to find the ringleaders. The delving into both their backgrounds helps you understand their present day actions and feelings. Th elope story was well done and I really enjoyed the mystery of finding the villains.
This was an entertaining book and I will definitely be reading more Anna Harrington stories.
