This book just didn’t do it for me. I didn’t like the wealthy characters and just couldn’t quite get into the plot.

Every time I read the title of this song, my mind goes straight to the song. The title was the hook for me, by the story, and mainly its characters left me wanting. They were impossible to like, just as the real life people who cheated and used their influence to get their kids into college. Perhaps too soon?

I loved The Devil Wears Prada so was looking forward to picking up this book - despite the title (even though I love the song - I felt the title is way too long and actually misleading based on what the book is about). This book just did not do it for me. I felt like it dragged on way too much and was mostly filler. The characters - except for the daughter - were really boring and one dimensional. I struggled to get through it.

It is interesting to read about the privileged class, such as rich people behaving badly. Even thought the characters were flawed they were still likable and it was an enjoyable book with a good ending.

I have been a huge fan of Lauren Weisberger's ever since reading The Devil Wears Prada and have enjoyed most of her books immensely. This one unfortunately fell flat for me. First thing I want to say is the cover did not intrigue me to this book at all, it feels very lackluster and I don't care for it. The second thing I didn't like was the media aspect it had to it, I'm known to not enjoy books about media "stars" and this book solidified my opinion on that. As far as the two sister main characters, I honestly didn't care for either of them. The only thing I enjoyed about this book was the writing style, it's fast and held my attention throughout the whole book. The plot didn't intrigue me, I didn't enjoy the characters, and there were times I was bored reading and had to force myself to pick it back up.

Where the Grass Is Green and the Girls Are Pretty is an engaging and fast-paced novel that explores the complexities of sisterhood, addiction, and the pursuit of happiness. Weisberger's writing style is witty and engaging, and she creates well-developed characters that feel both relatable and flawed.

One of the strengths of the novel is the way Weisberger explores the theme of addiction. Through Peyton's struggles with alcoholism, the novel shows the devastating impact addiction can have on individuals and their families. However, the book also emphasizes the importance of seeking help and the potential for redemption.

The relationship between Peyton and Skye is another highlight of the novel. Weisberger does an excellent job of depicting the complexities of sibling relationships, particularly the dynamic between sisters who have grown up with different levels of privilege and expectations. The novel shows how jealousy and competition can strain even the closest of bonds, but also how forgiveness and understanding can ultimately bring people together.

On the downside, the novel occasionally feels predictable, and some of the plot twists feel a bit contrived. Additionally, while the novel explores important themes, it occasionally feels like it's trying to tackle too many issues at once, which can make the pacing feel uneven.

Overall, Where the Grass Is Green and the Girls Are Pretty is an enjoyable read that will appeal to fans of women's fiction. While it has its flaws, it's a well-written and engaging novel that offers insightful commentary on addiction, sisterhood, and the pursuit of happiness.

It’s always fun to read about the privileged class…rich people behaving badly. But the author made these characters so likable and their motives were actually good under the surface. I appreciated the realistic family relationships and I thought the ending was perfect.

"A seat at the anchor desk of the most-watched morning show. Recognized by millions across the country, thanks in part to her flawless blond highlights and Botox-smoothed skin. An adoring husband and a Princeton-bound daughter. Peyton is that woman. She has it all.

Until . . .

Skye, her sister, is a stay-at-home mom living in a glitzy suburb of New York. She has degrees from all the right schools and can helicopter-parent with the best of them. But Skye is different from the rest. She’s looking for something real and dreams of a life beyond the PTA and pickup.

Until . . .

Max, Peyton’s bright and quirky seventeen-year-old daughter, is poised to kiss her fancy private school goodbye and head off to pursue her dreams in film. She’s waited her entire life for this opportunity.

Until . . .

One little lie. That’s all it takes. For the illusions to crack. For resentments to surface. Suddenly the grass doesn’t look so green. And they’re left wondering: will they have what it takes to survive the truth?"

The title is deceiving. I was prepared for a lighthearted read (I did not read the blurb beforehand, this was a cover/title decision read). Well, I was wrong.

Can two sisters be more of a lying, deceitful train wreck? Probably, but this book ranks among some of the worst. I wasn't surprised but much but that did not take away from the entertainment value of this book.

Where the Grass is Green and the Girls are Pretty takes us on a wild ride on the Upper East Side, getting a glimpse into the lives of New Yorkers and how they think. The amount of pretentious characters in this book is nauseating, which I think is the point. Someone like me could never imagine writing a check to bribe anyone for anything, so the author sets you up to see into the mind of someone who would. After finishing the book and getting to know the characters I still feel a bit disconnected, but I can have empathy for someone just making a mistake. I actually found Peyton to be very lovable, pretentious until she gets a reality check, but still lovable.

The characters in this book struggle with real problems that are relatable to a lot of people (college bribing aside!) and how if you open yourself to forgiving the ones who hurt you the most, you can find healing and a better family on the other side. I was surprised but pleased by the ending.

Thanks for the review copy. I think I enjoyed this one even more than The Devil Wears Prada. I cheered for Max. I enjoyed reading the different pov’s. Looking forward to more books from Weisberger,

This was a fun follow up to The Devil Wears Prada. I laughed and related all too well to the suburban life stories.

This was a page turner with an intriguing hook and a deft touch with the characters. However, the resolution was too tidy for my taste, and I found Max to be a bit of a Mary Sue. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the e-galley.

I received a reviewer copy of Where the Grass is Green and the Girls are Pretty by Lauren Weisberger from the publisher Random House publishing from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

What It’s About: Peyton is a famous journalist (think Katie Couric) who seems to have it all devoted husband, daughter who is Princeton bound, and is best friends with her sister who is a stay at home mom raising her daughter in a suburb. Then one day her husband is arrested for making a donation to attempt to get their daughter into college. Suddenly their family is melting down and things are in the air, but things are not as they seem.

What I Loved: I really loved the relationships between the women in this story. I loved a lot of the secondary stories. I was interested in Skye's, Peyton's sister, struggle between her past life of service and current life in an affluent suburbs. I loved the feel of their small town summer. I really liked Max and was cheering for her cute little romance.

What I didn’t like so much: There is a big hidden secret in this story and it just makes reading this book uncomfortable the whole time because you know the secret and you want to yell at the character about what is going on. It also makes a lot of the relationship/character growth seem inauthentic which is upsetting.

Who Should Read It: People who want a college admissions scandal book with a twist.

Summary: A simple donation leads to the fall of several dominoes

I grew up on Gossip Girl and the Devi Wears Prada and as a over of those two this is a must read. This books combines the enticing lives of moms in suburbia with the suspense of a page-turning novel. A must read!

I tried to read this book multiple times without luck. If it wasn’t for finally finding the audiobook, it would have been a DNF. The storyline was very underwhelming as it’s been quite overused and honestly a bit boring. The writing and the narration of the audiobook were good but overall this one fell flat for me.

Like everything written by Lauren Weisberger, this book is just fun! Consider this The Devil Wears Prada's older sister. A little bit more sophisticated and tackling issues that are extremely current. Parts are laugh out loud funny, while balanced with moments of poignancy and commentary on modern suburban life.

Absolutely an entertaining read!
