This is the first book I have read from this author although I have seen the Devil Wears Prada movie so I am a little familiar with an example of storyline. There was just something so alive and pulsating about this book. I definitely did not relate to the social class in any manner, however really enjoyed the dialogue and the wit of the book in general. I liked that it ended up being somewhat of a comeback story and about strength in the face of adversity. I will definitely read more from this author and was really impressed in the character development and the relationship between sisters. Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley.

I love all of Lauren Weisberger's books and find them to be quite funny. This book had some relatable characters and a fun setting. (I am a sucker for NYC and then a summer destination house nearby). The only real issue I had that took some pleasure out of the read for me was the topic of the plot. I have overdosed on parents behaving badly in order to get their perfectly capable children into an elite college. This seems to be the plot of the day with so many new books that I have read. I must gravitate toward them with HS teens of my own, but this topic is now on my DNR list along with WWII books. Just a personal preference. If you like this author and find the topic intriguing, this is a fun book!

This book was a fun look at sisters, Peyton and Skye, and how they react and rely on each other when life takes difficult turns. They each look perfect on the outside but Peyton finds herself in the middle of the news surrounding the college admissions scandal instead of on tv reporting it like usual, and Skye is hiding tens of thousands of dollars of debt from her husband. They spend the summer in Paradise, a Stepford-like town, waiting for their rosy fears to come true.

Like her other books, Weisberger uses sharp humor and keen observation to bring her cast of characters alive in their “perfect” environments. It was a fun beach read and relatable.

Thank you to NetGalley for the free advanced copy.

I enjoyed the back and forth of the two sisters and their dueling storylines. I didn’t find either of them particularly likable personally - especially Skye. Very much enjoyed Max and her spunky personality. Easy read, fast read.

This book was slightly cheesy, fast moving enough to keep your attention and the characters were fascinating, easy to get to know, but also complex - a rare combination. This is a great summer read for sitting on your patio and relaxing - it was exactly what I was looking for!

I normally love Lauren Wiesberger but this book was not my cup of tea. This book so closely followed to college admissions scandal, down to the daughter being a vlogger. Hello Olivia Jade!

I think this could have been such a good read, had it taken a detour from the truth. If it was boys, or maybe had a crazy twist, I would have been more into the story.

Overall, I think art imitates reality a little too closely for my liking, so this was a no go for me.

DNF 33% of the way.

This book was interesting, because it reminded me of the college admissions scandals that have been going on in the news recently. It held my attention, but was slower moving at times. Despite the slow moving details, the book ended well in my opinion!

This review is quite challenging to give. When looking to review Payton, I feel like she is quite insufferable. I found her to be quite annoying, whiny, and out of touch with reality…but maybe that was the point.
Looking at the other characters, I was hooked! I loved Skye & Max. I wish there was more from their perspective.
I found it difficult to get interested in the book until I was about 55% through…after that, I was really enjoying it. Although, the college admissions scandal seems a little played out.
The author’s references to modern day things, like television shows, celebrities, fads, etc. brought a smile to my face because it was relatable and something that, if read in the future, will bring me back to these times.

Lauren Weisberger is the queen of name dropping (Is that a Saint Laurent? No, just Urban Outfitters. HA!) and I love her label whore references, as well as as her witty and self deprecating characters. However, the story of a college admissions scandal was #toosoon. If I wanted to read this story, I could have easily picked up People Magazine and read it half the time instead.

Ripped from the headlines, this novel focuses on Peyton, a wealthy morning news anchor who learns mid broadcast that her husband is suspected of bribery for college admissions for their daughter, Max.

Skype, is the exact opposite of her wealthy, high-strung sister. She’s a stay at home-mom, on the PTA and super involved in the neighborhood.

The summer the two sisters share during this college admissions scandal, brings many things to light, including the sisters shared past.

Literally the perfect summer read. Some funny, some serious. I wouldn’t have expected anything less from LW ❤️

I didn’t enjoy this book at all. It was a slog to get through and I found the characters unlikable. It took me such a long time to become interested in the story that I nearly DNFd. I only finished it because it was an ARC. I appreciate the chance to review. I will not be posting my comments to other sites.

Where the Grass is Green and the Girls Are Pretty is a book ripped from the headlines of the college admissions scandals that have played out in the news over the past couple of years. Peyton is a national news anchor whose husband is suddenly on the news as someone who bribed a school to get his daughter admitted. There’s more to the story than meets the eye, however. Read and enjoy!

This is a great book to throw in your beach bag this summer and read while your kids are swimming. It doesn't need 100% concentration to get the point, and will definitely hold your attention.

This book was a good entertaining read but I felt like I couldn’t fully understand any of the characters. Like none of the characters were relatable. There also seemed to be a lot of scenes that were superfluous to the story.

Where the Grass Is Green and the Girls Are Pretty by Lauren Weisberger is a story that centers itself on a ripped-from-the headlines scandal - college admissions. And, then, there's the inevitable fallout on the lives of Peyton (phenom journalist), Skye (hippie, unfulfilled sister), and Max (innocent daughter).

This is a book that had a lot of potential, and Weisberger devotees will certainly enjoy this one. It's a fast read that would certainly be a good beach read. There's a bit of flatness to the story and a large focus on superficial elements with one character, which just wasn't enjoyable.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me. All thoughts are my own.

The story line was pulled straight from the headlines- overbearing mom donates to a “charity” in an effort to help her daughter get into an Ivy League college. I almost gave up after the first few chapters, since I watched the exact plot play out in the news and in a Netflix documentary.
I’m glad I kept reading, because the story developed and took an unexpected turn- showing the ugly underbelly of success and the fault lines that run through every marriage and familial relationship. After the initial chapters, I enjoyed reading about how the fractured family broke apart and slowly came back together. An engaging story and enjoyable read.

Where the Grass is Green and the Girls Are Pretty by Lauren Weisberger features a cringe title (sorry, it’s true) with a solid beach read story.

I’m sure as soon as you read the title, the song is now officially in your head! Maybe I’m missing something but I have no idea why they named the book after that song. I guess because there’s a town called Paradise in the novel? Titles aren’t everything, or really that important in the grand scheme of things, but I think they could have done better than that. You have no idea what the story is about and it might make you wonder if there some music element to this story. There’s not. Anyway, bizarre choices there!

That said, I fairly enjoyed the story! It took inspiration from the real-life Varsity Blues college admissions scandal and tried to put a face to it and an explanation of why someone would pursue that illegal path.

Lauren Weisberger is one of the queens of the genre. Devil Wears Prada is still a huge sensation and she’s been steadily writing novels since then. I think her novels are all decent but do feature similar topics about wealth, greed, redemption and remembering what’s really important in life.

I wouldn’t say there’s a ton of depth. There just isn’t—it truly is a story meant to read on a lazy Saturday afternoon by the pool. And that’s totally fine. I overall liked this one. 3 1/2 stars rounded up to 4.

2.5 rounded up.

Ugh, I hate to say that I didn't enjoy a book by Lauren Weisberger after loving so many, but unfortunately this book just didn't work for me. The premise sounded intriguing, but fell flat for me, and I couldn't connect with any of the characters. They were not relatable, likable, or entertaining, and the story left me wanting...

I've seen other wonderful reviews and agree this could be a fun summer read for many. I remain a big fan of Lauren Weisberger and look forward to reading future books.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
