This was a fun and light read I really enjoyed.

Even though it's theoretically the second in a series, I've read it as a first and had no problem finding my bearings.
Part fantasy, part romance and part mystery, this book has a bit of everything, topped with a large measure of humour. And yet, it didn't really work for me. The humour felt off at times and the suspension of disbelief required for certain scenes and character motivations was just too much for comfort.

The characters were likable and the mystery intriguing, but I am not sure I'll be continuing with the series.

Even though I happened upon this book and it's the second in the series. I still felt like I knew pretty much what was going on. It's a sweet romance with mystery and intrigue and as you continue to the book there's lots of twists, turns and things are revealed that makes you realize that things are more related than you may realize.

The thread of mystery in Ghost of an Enchantment kept me reading well into the dark, well after I should have turned off the lights and gone to be. The details were fantastic and well-woven together, resulting in a satisfying ending. Ghost of an Enchantment was a satisfying, magical read and a true romance. If you love witch books or paranormal romance like I do, then pick up this book, you won't be disappointed.

This book features a small-town witch named Stella who is caring for her Grandmother with dementia. With that comes a lot of financial responsibilities and woe, but Stella is such a feisty but compassionate character, she's able to navigate her way around to make the best of things. I found Stella to be a very lovable character and I liked seeing the budding romance between her and Lucas come to life. Lucas - Stella's love interest- however, was actually one of the reasons I couldn't give a full 5 stars. I felt like he did not take things as seriously in the book. He would just accept things as is which I found odd and would wonder how he wasn't a bit more concerned about some of the things he would see. But Lucas was a very protective love interest for Stella - especially against his boss - who harbors some animosity towards Stella for a few reasons I will leave out due to spoilers. Because I had never read book one I put this book off for a while because it's the second installment. However, I decided to start it on a whim because I was looking for a witchy read and this delivered. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves witches and a fast-paced read as well.

"Ghost of an Enchantment" is a nice story, mixing supernatural, tension, a sweet love story and some surprising twists. This book is definitely an entertaining read.

I realized when I started reading Ghost of an Enchantment that I have a thing for characters that are clueless. Actually beyond clueless when it comes to the existence of the unexplained. To be honest, I probably realized it before I read Ghost of an Enchantment, but Lucas and his adamance against anything that couldn’t be explained by anything outside the norm reinforced it.

Lucas and Stella are drawn together regardless of how hard they try to deny it – and they tried really hard. Fate had different plans for them and it became to hard to fight the inevitable. It also became harder for Lucas to explain the strange things that were happening without admitting that there were things beyond the normal world that he thought he lived in.

As for Stella, she’d been brought up to not trust the police. Those warnings were centered around secrets- some that she was purposely keeping from Lucas and some that had been kept from her all her life. There were a lot of strange things happening in Wickwood and as the secrets were revealed, the more those strange things seemed to be totally related.

Ghost of an Enchantment was full of twists, turns, mystery, magic and danger. It also included a sweet romance and a strong sense of family. Everything I like in a new series.

Even though this is the second book in the Wickwood Chronicles, it’s the first book that I’ve read in the series. I wasn’t confused at all, but there are definitely some characters that I now want to get to know better. I’m pretty sure that I’ll be catching up with the rest of the series soon. 😉

Ghost of an Enchantment, Wickwood Chronicles Book 2, J. E. McDonald

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Sci-fi and fantasy, Mystery and Thrillers, Romance

This was a fun read but for me a light one. It lacked the depth to really keep me engrossed.
I did like the characters, and the attraction between Lucas and Stella, but felt he was very ready to accept the explainable.
“She's a witch, OK, my friend is a paranormal investigator even though I don't really know what he does. The books are floating? Oh well...There's weird burn marks on the floor and ceiling? Oh, I wonder what did that? Still, they want us to leave so I can't ask more questions.
Even seeing it for himself I thought he'd be more shocked, more full of questions and doubts.

Its one of those reads that has so much packed, in but each bit felt almost superficial. The portal, the connections between the families from the past, the creatures that appeared, the police and their actions and comments, Stella's gran and her issues, and then neighbour's reaction to floating books. That last bit felt it was added for humour when the story didn't need it, and for a serious book just felt wrong, though works in a comedy. I felt its a story that doesn't really know what it wants to be. Is it a romance? A mystery, a book with humour and fun? A serious Sci-fi? Stories can be more than one but this has bits of all in, that would work in a series or trilogy, but for me in just one book it was a muddle and detracted from the story.
I just got the sense it was a story full of events, characters and creatures, connections from past to present and maybe just a little too much packed in a shortish read.
For me I'd rather less events and more detail. As ever though, we're all different and this is perfect as it is for others. Horses for courses...

Stars: Three, a lightweight mystery, a little too packed with different things for me.

I mostly enjoyed this book. It's middle is slow and ambles a bit but the ending is fast and furious. I was definitely surprised by it. #Ghost of an Enchantment #NetGalley

I’m not sure what I was expecting when I requested an ARC of this book. It certainly wasn’t what I got. I was blown away by this story. Stella is a witch who can sense and feel energy. Lucas is a policeman who has always discounted the unusual until he meets Stella and sees some floating books.
Lucas’ energy draws Stella to him from the beginning.
Stella has some big problems she is facing and I couldn’t really relax into the story until she starts to share the burden. The last 1/3 was very intense.
There are some sexual encounters between Stella and Lucas. I wasn’t expecting that. I think that comes from the idea I had that I was reading a mystery not a paranormal romance. The emotions were there adding to the story rather than subtracting.
I would be interested in seeing what else the author has to offer. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

A charming couple with some supernatural thrills and chills to keep you on the edge of your seat, this is a winner. Though the second in a series, there is no need to read the first one to understand this one—I didn’t—and there is a satisfying amount of world building to get a glimpse of the paranormal world that exist parallel and with our world.

I received a copy of Ghost of an Enchantment (Wickwood Chronicles, Book 2) by J. E. McDonald from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Overall, this novel missed the mark for me. I felt that the plot should have been interesting given the story's summary, but the plot wasn't evenly paced. Also, I wasn't keen on the main characters - found them to be very one dimensional and not very engaging.

i really enjoyed this book. the characters were people i would like to know in real life. it was nice to read a book where profanity is not the leading character. this was a nice change.

It took a little time for me to get really into this book. I felt the story was somewhat dragged out in the beginning. A lot of repeating about energies. Once you get past that the story picks up and gets more interesting. I mean who doesn't like reading about witches, Fey, and the FBI? Overall a good read.

Although I hadn't read Ghost of a Gamble, #1 in the series, I slipped right into this great series.

Small town Witch Stella has a lot on her plate. Her Grandmother's dementia, looking after her home, the business she runs with her bestie and now the financial mess she seems to have found herself in. Things are going a bit..weird, even by Stella's standards. The bank have somehow managed to get their hands on her Grandmothers house and are threatening to sell it! Why did her Grandmother take out a mortgage on a home that she owned free and clear? Did her dementia have something to do with it? or more likely, has someone used magic to disrupt their lives?

But there are further mysteries to be solved. There has been a rash of burglaries in Wickwood but nothing seems to be taken. Teenagers up to no good or magical mayhem? Lucas is determined to find out one way or the other. He can't understand the animosity towards Stella from his boss, who is also his uncle. He drafts in Stella when he becomes aware of her magical roots and together they are resolved to root out the rot in Wickwood.

Stella is a mix of sassy, feisty and lovable. Family is everything to her - whether blood related or found family. Lucas is protective, accepting and willing to trust that he may not have all the answers.
