Lord Matthew Lyon is often called upon by the Crown because of his mathematical brilliance, and participating in a high stakes game of chance at the notorious Lyon’s Den should have been the easy part of his assignment...only it goes terribly wrong. He wins the pot, as expected since his probability calculations never fail. But no one calculated on his winning the hand of Lady Danielle Haverfield, daughter of the Earl of Haverfield, the prime suspect in a treason plot against the Crown and the very man he is assigned to bring down. Lady Danielle Haverfield knew she did not belong in the Lyon’s Den, but she had to stop her brother Simon before he gambled away his entire inheritance. Not only did she fail to stop him, but she’s ruined her life as well. Lady Dove-Lyon will not allow her brother to go unpunished, even though the handsome Scottish lord who’s wiped him out is willing to forgive the debt. But the Black Widow of Whitehall has a fearsome reputation to maintain. Someone is going to have to pay for her brother’s inability to pay up, and she’s decided it is to be Danielle.
Another very well written page turning book. I loved Matthew, the large gentle Scot who fell hard & fast for the feisty Danielle. The story flowed effortlessly & I read it in a sitting. The chemistry between the pair was electric but he had kept things from her so their burgeoning relationship hit a rocky patch. A lovely mix of romance & mystery with very strong believable characters. I loved it that Lily Farthingale made a cameo appearance, I’d also love for Simon to find his HEA
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Lady Danielle Haverfield us trying to stop her brother from trouble, only to end up in worse trouble herself. The gambling house known as the Lyon's Den is really no place for a Lady to be found.
Lord Matthew Lyon must find a way into the lives of a certain family to find a traitor. His aunt's gambling house is just the place to do it.
A fun historical romance with lovely characters.
An other good addition to the Lyon's Den series.
Good Fun.

He's not just a professor.

Matthew Lyon (he's one of the Lyon brothers) is in England on a mission for the Crown.
It involves getting close to Simon and Danielle, the children of the earl he suspects for treason. Danielle is served up to him as his fake betrothed in a night of gaming at the Lyon's den. Why is women have no power, but they are the only ones with the power to save the men who gamble and then have to be bailed out by a mere girl?

Matthew, a professor in Edinburgh is smitten with Danielle. but there's a plot to unravel involving her family.
I really enjoyed this quick read, albeit there were two minor infractions the word skimpy was not used in 1817, nor was the king giving his approval for anything (regent). I appreciated what a good man Matthew is crafted to be, what a dream. Fake quickly, simultaneously, turns into a real feels between Danielle and Matthew.

Recommend.

Lyon’s Den shenanigans! ________ 3.5 stars

I really liked the two main proponents in this addition to the Lyon’s Den pantheon. Lord Mathew Lyon (note the surname!) a sometime intelligence operative for the crown and Danielle Haverfield, a young woman intent on saving her brother. Each in their own way gorgeous, loyal and swoon worthy. I must say that Danielle is really quite a bold young thing underneath the biddable young debutante exterior. But then, she has many reasons for her actions—and it seems curiosity is one! Of course they meet at the gambling tables in the Lyon’s Den! Of course things go pear shaped! The storyline demonstrates just how much can be packed into an historical romance; pulling in an arranged marriage, spy craft, an abusive father, and traitors—all in the shadows of high society, and in the blink of an eye.
I guess that’s what spread this story a little thin for me. Although my liking for the lead characters took the story from a 3 to a 3.5 star read.

I haven't read any of the other books in the connected Lyon's Den series. I have, however, read a fair few by Meara Platt. I do enjoy her not too serious or heavy take on regency Britain and knew what I was in for here.
The Lyon in question is Matthew Lyon, a mathematics professor at Edinburgh University, and part-time spy. He's on a mission to get to the bottom of a plot and to do so tries to get close to the children of one of the men suspected. He manages to find himself betrothed to the daughter, Danielle. He soon realises that while this might be all part of a plan to uncover a plot, there is nothing fake about his feelings for the young woman.
This is a fun regency style romance. It isn't heavy on historical fact and contains the kind of Scot's that populate romantic poems about the highlands rather than 'real' ones. But who cares. This was a fun romantic read that I enjoyed thoroughly.

This is such a fun, quick read!

Scotsman Lord Matthew Lyon is a professor of Mathematics in Edinburgh and is occasionally called upon to work for the Crown. He also happens to be distant relative of Lady Dove-Lyon of the Lyon's Den in London. Our heroine, Danielle's father and odious uncle are somehow involved in a plot against the Crown that Matthew is investigating. So when her brother Simon starts behaving erratically, excessive drinking and gambling, she's desperate to keep him from destroying himself and shows up at the Lyon's Den to save him. Enter Lady Dove-Lyon and her scheming to "force" Danielle to become engaged to Matthew to pay off Simon's debt.

There are some plot holes that left me asking some questions but I loved the characters of Danielle and Matthew and how enigmatic they were.

LIES, SPIES AND A HIGHLANDER
Scotsman Lord Matthew Lyon is a professor of Mathematics in Edinburgh and is occasionally called upon to work for the Crown. There is a plot afoot and the father, uncle and brother of Lady Danielle Heverfield are prime suspects. Danielle is caught in the middle. When her brother Simon starts behaving erratically, excessive drinking and gambling, she's desperate to keep him from destroying himself. When Simon plays too deep at the Lyon's Den and can't pay, Lady Dove-Lyon strikes again. Danielle is forced to be engaged to Matthew to pay off Simon's debt. Matthew is up to his eyeballs trying to solve the puzzle of the plot and who is innocent and who is not. One thing he knows for sure is Danielle is innocent and he will protect her at any cost. I really look forward to reading a new book in this series of another couple caught in Mrs. Dove-Lyon's web.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
💋💋

Mathew Lyon is a distant relative of Bessie Dove Lyon, proprietor of the Lyon’s Den.
He’s a smooth, passionate and very satisfying character to read, he full-fills all those needs that you didn’t realise you needed filling.
He’s the owner of one of those romantic, deep and spine tingling brogues.

Danielle is the lady who lands him, wether she means to or not.
The two are made for each other and set the pages alive with their chemistry and passionate glances.

With tense moments and a satisfying group of characters, a brilliant story unfolds, penned brilliantly as only Myra Platt can.
She brings these characters to life in a way that makes sure you remember them long after the book is done.

Highly recommend reading!

Matthew Lyon is on a mission to find a traitor to the crown. If he has to get engaged to Danielle to do it, well he doesn’t seem to find it a hardship. Danielle will do anything to protect her brother Simon, even marry a man to erase his gambling debts. This is book twelve in The Lyons Den series but can definitely be read as a standalone. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.

This book was a very good, quick read. The characters were well-written and the story held my attention throughout. Matthew, a mathematician and the ultimate Scottish hero, was on a mission for the crown and ends up meeting Danielle, a lady trying to save her brother from ruin. A quick appearance by a previous character made the book even better for me. I do hope Danielle's brother, Simon, gets a book. Meara has quickly become one of my favorite authors and I have read most of her books.

This book is fine as a stand alone.. I have not yet read all of the books in The Lyon's Den, but plan on it.

The story was pretty decent and hooked me in for a while. But there were a lot of plot holes to keep me interested, like why the hero picked as the agent for this mission? His background has nothing to recommend him. Also why did Simon start drinking and gambling? His father's treasonous activities make no sense as an excuse for his behavior. Also what actually happened with the uncle and the father? What was the plot? What hold did the uncle have on the father?? So many unanswered questions.

A quick and captivating read, Kiss of the Lyon is a swoon-worthy historical romance with great characters and a wonderful love story. Danielle and Matthew, the main couple in the novel, fall in love almost at first sight, and their feelings only deepen as the story progresses.

Matthew and Danielle have a fantastic romance! Though riddled with obstacles that include a forced betrothal, betrayal, and secrets, their attraction and connection to each other is strong. I particularly like how deeply Matthew cares for Danielle. His actions and attitude throughout the story show how much he cares for Danielle and that he’ll do whatever he can to protect her.

I also love that Matthew is an intellectual. A professor of mathematics, Matthew proves that intelligence is sexy, and it is beneficial when trying to uncover a secret plot against the government. The mystery surrounding Danielle’s father and his nefarious involvement in a plan to disrupt the government is very intriguing. However, it also makes the relationship between Matthew and Danielle more complicated as she doesn’t know that Matthew is tasked with investigating her father.

In addition to the fantastic romance, the other strength of the novel is the compelling characters. Danielle and Matthew are intriguing and well developed, as is Danielle’s brother Simon. He begins the novel at a low point, torn between his duty to his family and doing what is ethically right. I’m curious to find out what happens to Simon and feel like there was some foreshadowing that suggested his story might be next in The Lyon’s Den series. Now that he is free from his overbearing and abusive father, Simon has the ability to turn himself around, and I’m hoping that we’ll see it as the series continues. There are also hints about Matthew’s younger, single brother, and I suspect his story might be in a future book as well. Here’s hoping!

This is a fun and quick historical romance, and a wonderful addition to The Lyon’s Den series. That being said, you don’t need to read the other books in the series to follow this one. Each book can be read as a standalone. Thanks so much to NetGalley, the author, and Dragonblade Publishing for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

An enjoyable and quick read in the Lyon's Den series, where ladies and gentleman are brought together by the Black Widow for many different reasons, Matthew, a mathematics professor, does work for the crown due to his brilliant mind, but stumbles into a marriage arrangement he did not expect. Danielle is trying to save her brother from his downward spiraled path, but ends up becoming engaged due to her brother's mistakes. Matthew found his way into the family he is investigating for treason, but discovers more than that. While his feelings for Danielle grow, he knows she will not forgive him for ruining her family, but he has his duty and will do whatever it takes to make sure Danielle remains by his side forever.
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lord Matthew Lyon is on a mission to catch a traitor. The clues leader to the Haverfield family and he needs to get close to Simon and Danielle, children of the Earl of Haverfield. All sources point to the earl at the heart of the treasonous plot. When his task takes him to the infamous gambling hell, he has no idea he'd leave betrothed to Danielle. It was the only way that Simon can get his debt to Matthew forgiven. Danielle tells Matthew that Simon has been acting strange and Matthew finds out that Simon suspects his father as well. Can their fledgling love survive secrets and treason?

This was another enjoyable read from Ms. Platt. I enjoy her stories and this one was no different. I especially loved Matthew and his noble intentions toward Danielle. Danielle was a commendable heroine especially the way she tries to protect her brother no matter what the cost for her. Both Matthew and Danielle realized they had feelings for each other as they try to uncover the treasonous plot. Their happily ever after was sweet. My only criticism is the lack of information about why the earl's brother had such a hold over him and why the earl was such a beast of a father to Simon and Danielle. Did something trigger such horrible punishments to children? It might have better explained the earl's personality.

Can their love survive their secrets?
Matthew is an agent agent for the crown. Danielle has secrets of her own not that she is totally aware of.
Can their love survive the real reason that they have come together.
Meara Platt has written an incredible tale full of intrigue and love.
