I am a huge fan of true crime, but for some reason, this one was just dragging on and on for me, and I, eventually, just decided to not even finish it.

Troubling And Disturbing…
Behind the scenes of a gruesome crime in this well written, comprehensive account of the Coronado Mansion Case. Both troubling and disturbing, yet thought provoking and fascinating. Packed with clear and vividly painted descriptions, the reader must decide for themselves the conclusions to be drawn.

I was fascinated with the case but it really never gave an answer as to what happened to the son or the girlfriend. I was sort of disappointed.

A really good true crime book! I was hooked from the first line. It was a book that I was able to finish in one sitting!

This case has really stuck with me. I have seen several tv specials on it and still feel like I just need more information. This book did a pretty decent just of presenting all the information. However, I did feel that it was presented with a slight bias, but let's be honest that's how most true crime goes.

This book took me a bit to get into but definitely recommend reading it. Love the characters and story line:

The story of Rebecca Zahau's death is definitely an interesting and curious story. When this was discovered, it was certainly huge news and many theories were put to the test. The author certainly did their due diligence and included a LOT of information into the book, however I felt at times it was almost too much information. I think the main story was lost because of this.

This was such a well researched book. I was gripped from the beginning and had to remind myself this was a true story throughout as it read like a real thriller! A fantastic true crime book!

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an Advance Reader Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. As a True Crime buff, I am surprised that I had not heard of this story.
It's got everything - racial stereotyping, blended families, jealousy, sex and strange deaths. It's also incredibly sad and told with empathy.
Fans of the genre will enjoy this book and want more from this author.

The Rebecca Zahau case is one that I’ve followed for years and have always been interested in, so I jumped at the chance to read this book, especially in advance. What I liked about the book is that Rother clearly invested a lot of time and effort into researching and compiling her work. I felt the writing was approachable and easy to read.

Oppositely, the organization and presentation of her research was what was lacking for me. The book feels very scattered and jumps around in the narrative as well as repeating established facts throughout. I feel the book could have been edited to be smoother and shorter than it is at present.

⭐⭐⭐⭐Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. What a great true crime read. I have listened to a couple of podcasts about the Rebecca's death but this book took the details to a whole other level. The amount of research and details the author was able to put into this book made it an addictive read. I hope one day this case is resolved. I don't think Rebecca committed suicide. #deathonoceanboulevard #caitlinrother #netgalley #tea_sipping_bookworm #goodreads #litsy #thestorygraph #truecrime #bookqueen #bookstagram #amazonkindle

Death on Ocean Boulevard by Caitlin Rother was a very detailed and well written account of a true crime case. Very bizarre case that is still a mystery. #DeathonOceanBoulevard #NetGalley

Overall, I felt kinda meh about this book. Not necessarily bad, but not particularly memorable either. Giving it 2.5/5 Stars.

I am fascinated by true crime and this story in particular. You can tell the author has done her research. Very detailed. We may never have all the answers but I feel Rother did a wonderful job of telling the story.

trigger warning
<spoiler> miscarriage, domestic abuse, child molestation, kidnapping, trauma, frequent mention of suicide, child death, grief, drug abuse </spoiler>

Two days after a tragic accident that send a child to intensive care, the adult who was supervising is found hanged.

We have two events that are investigated in this book. The author, who is an investigative journalist, followed the news from the beginning because they thought this could potentially make a good book. Since they have their own experience with being related to a person who died by suicide, there are a few instances in this book in which parallels are drawn between personal recollections and the researched events.

I found the way the facts are presented easily comprehensible. It was a huge mess, but that was due to what happened - life <i>is</i> messy. And unsatisfying, this true crime book does not come with a neat solution wrapped with a bow, which frustrates me, but as it depicts true happenings, I can not fault the book, the autor, or anyone else.

This was a hard read. While nobody can exactly say at this point what really happened, some of the people mentioned in this went through a lot of stuff, and I hope that those who are still alive now have had their share of traumatic events and will have the chance to recover and heal.

If you're into true crime, give it a go. If you need trigger warnings, really make sure to look them up before picking up this book.
The arc was provided by the publisher.

There are so many twists and turns in this sad story that it's hard to believe that it is true. The book is a comprehensive review of the case in so far as I couldn't find much else about the case online.

I found the book to be oddly racist. In chapter 17, the author describes Rebecca in a very stereotypical way— as having “traditional Asian qualities and values” and that as such, she “didn’t try to act or look like a man” and enjoyed cooking and scrubbing the floor on her hands and knees.

What? Even if this was the personal opinion of her boyfriend, it was not presented in that way. There is also a bizarre passage about how the boyfriend’s interest in “Asia” (he knew karate) must have been genetic because he took a DNA test and was found to have Asian ancestors he never knew about??

I have watched I think every show made about this case. It is SO bizarre and I doubt the truth will ever be known.

This book really delved into it and I felt the author put a ton of time and effort into speaking to anyone and everyone. There were things in this book that I don't recall seeing in any of the shows.

This just confirmed to me that, much like the JonBenet Ramsey case, the police really dropped the ball on this case and I believe that is why it will never be solved.

If you like true crime, you will devour this one. I will be looking into more by this author.

Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
