This is a baby/children's book that I read with my twin boys. One of my seven year old twin boys is still working on talking do to some of his special needs, so I use books like this to read with him. I love that the book has simple words, so if you have pre-k or k kids they can read some of the sight words with you. I love the story and all the bright pictures in this book. I think that big cities can be scary for young kids, so this book makes it feel fun. The pictures can allow the kids to look at the pictures and know what the story is telling them. Great book to read to babies or to read with early learners. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Orca Book Publishers) or author (Laurie Elmquist) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Such a cute board book illustrating what it's like for a little baby to live in the city. This is part of a small series that illustrates where other little ones live too. When read together they show how different places offer different things, but they all have adventure and fun.

This rhyming board book is perfect for the targeted age group, 0-2 years. Little ones are introduced to an Asian mom and her beloved baby as they explore the city where they live. The vocabulary is simple and the paper collage style illustrations celebrate their city adventure. The colours are vibrant, the characters are expressive and are very baby-friendly inviting the readers to join in the fun.

Together mommy and baby visit a park where they blow bubbles and chase pigeons, see big beautiful murals on walls that tell stories and visit the festival square where the music and activity make their hearts dance too, just to cite a few.

The city folk are a diverse group which I love and the whole vibe of the book is happy and upbeat. Early learners, PK or K aged kids, can use the book to read and learn sight words. I highly recommend this book.

This is a cute and simple board book that is geared towards ages 0-2. We follow a mom and her baby as they spend their day in the city.

Since this is a board book it is on the shorter side, we really only see our characters go to about 3 places. They visit the park, a café, and a festival in the square as well as little stops they make on the way to look at something like a mural or window. The book didn’t really give me the “city” vibes that I immediately think of when someone says the city, it just reminded me of a town but that’s not really a huge deal.

I liked seeing a diverse group of people as we explored the city in addition to our mom and baby who are Asian.

Because this book is aimed at those 2 and under, the writing is incredibly simple. I think it would be a nice book to use as a practice for vocabulary words. There are some longer words, long for a 2-year-old, that can be used to help increase their knowledge on vocab.

I think my favorite thing about the book though is the illustrations. Barron creates the images using paper-collage and it makes the pictures really unique. I thought all the pages were really well done with my favorite being the one with the mural.

This would be a nice addition to a littles classroom or daycare as well as a baby shower present.

City Baby's story and language are simple, clear, and effective, but it's the illustrations that really sing in this board book celebrating a baby-eye view of city life. The paper collage style is strong and clean but richly textured, the colors are bold and vibrant, and the characters' faces are especially expressive. I particularly enjoyed the variety of angles - the pictures aren't all viewed straight on, but some from above or below, some are closer or further away. It's a beautifully illustrated board book that I can see making a lovely baby shower gift.

Thank you to NetGalley and Orca Book Publishers for the advance review copy!

I like how the illustrations are simple and the words are nice and big in Times New Roman font so that kids can easily learn how to read words. This is a cute little beginner book for kids.

Beautifully illustrated book for babies and toddlers. Young readers see a baby and its mom as they explore their city. The brightly colored pages will stimulate readers and draw their eyes to the action on each page. The simple text complements the pictures and tells the story in language they will understand.
Terrific gift book for young families to celebrate the many cultures surrounding them in such a setting.

A mom and her baby spend a day visiting the familiar places in their city in this beautifully illustrated picture book. City Baby brings back memories of my son’s first year of life. Seeing the world through fresh child eyes is refreshing and hopeful.

This is a short and sweet story of a Mom and her sweet baby. She wants her baby to see everything that there is in the big city. She takes the baby all over and they have a very nice day together. I would recommend this for a bedtime story or just a quick read aloud in a young classroom.

An adorable board book with sweet illustrations and a simple story. I appreciate that it is meant to just be any city, but I almost wish the city was more clearly defined to add more wonder and depth. We could learn more about X city after looking at the book perhaps. Still lovely though and beautiful artwork!

This is a cute adventure board book for youngsters. It has great illustrations to find items and practice vocabulary. It would correlate with any city and have experiences most toddlers could relate to.
