I loved this one, it was a really fun read! I loved that it had two great settings and a great cast of characters. It was a fun summer read filled with friendship, family, love and a little bit of nostalgia.

I am sorry for not reviewing fully but I don’t have the time to read this at the moment. I believe that it wouldn't benefit you as a publisher or your book if I only skimmed it and wrote a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for not fully reviewing!

This is a perfect, feel-good summer read that I couldn't put down and absolutely loved! Featuring three women at different stages of life: Kathleen, an 80 year old woman looking to resolve a broken friendship before it's too late; Liza, Kathleen's daughter, who's feeling unappreciated by her husband and twin teenage daughters, always the helper and never looking out for herself; and Martha, the young woman Kathleen hires to drive her across America on an epic road trip, who is facing a quarter life crisis and also feeling lost, uninspired and less than, in the shadow of her more successful older sister. Over the course of the summer each of these women make brave changes and for Liza and Martha, find a little romance along the way. I loved this on audio and also took it along to the beach on my vacation. Highly recommend for anyone who needs the courage to do what makes them happy (no matter your age) or is simply looking for an enjoyable story with a satisfying ending. Thanks to NetGalley for my advance review copy!

Another great Sarah Morgan book! Women's fiction with a little bit of family mystery and a little bit of romance. The road trip was the perfect scenario for each woman to grow and figure out the part of life they were in. I liked how they were told from different POV and how the women connected and still supported each other. Very cute and perfect to read while on a road trip this summer!

Upbeat, heartwarming and so addictive, Sarah Morgan’s latest novel, The Summer Seekers is sure to keep readers completely glued to their sunloungers!

Eighty year old Kathleen is desperate for adventure. Her daughter might constantly badger her to be sensible and to move to a retirement community, but Kathleen is not having any of it. Kathleen is not ready to spend her days sitting on an armchair knitting with a blanket over her knees. She is going to go throw all caution to the wind and have the time of her life – regardless of what her daughter might say. An epic road trip across America is just what the doctor ordered and spirited Kathleen is not about to let a run-in with an intruder interfere with her traveling plans. Advertising for a driver, Kathleen cannot wait to hit the road, but little does she realize that she is about to go on a journey of a lifetime where she might just end up finding the happiness she been seeking for so long…

Martha never imagined that life would pan out of this way. Unemployed, unloved and still living with her parents, the future is looking rather bleak for her. Maybe answering an advertisement for a driver and companion to an eighty year old woman is just what she needs to shake off the doldrums and help her figure out what she is going to do next. Martha is sure the job will be a breeze – after all, how much trouble could an octogenarian be? Quite a lot as it happens…

Meanwhile, Liza has reached the end of her tether juggling her million and one commitments. Liza yearns for escape and hearing about her mother’s epic journey makes her crave a solo holiday of her own. Will Liza finally get the break she is desperate for? Will some time away help her find the answers to the questions occupying her mind? Or will Liza’s loyalty and insecurities end up holding her hostage?

These three women are at different stages of their lives, but as they find themselves coming together, they soon realize that age is just a number and that it’s never too late for a second chance.

I’ve been a fan of Sarah Morgan’s since her category romance days and she just gets better and better with every book she writes. In The Summer Seekers, she has written a fabulous story about starting over, letting go of the past and taking a chance on yourself that made me laugh and cry and kept me completely and utterly hooked from the first until the last page.

Sarah Morgan’s characters are three strong, flawed, relatable and simply wonderful women readers will fall in love with. Kathleen, Liza and Martha come instantly to life from the moment they appear on the page and readers will thoroughly enjoy the time spent in their company.

Witty, heart-warming and engrossing, Sarah Morgan’s The Summer Seekers is simply outstanding!

Woo hoo! Summer has arrived, my friends! And do I ever have the book rec for you. I’ve been reading Sarah Morgan’s books for a few years now, and they’ve all been winners for me. Her latest, The Summer Seekers just might be my very favorite! The story follows three fantastic women:

KATHLEEN: She’s no longer a spring chicken, but wants one last adventure, and decides to take a road trip down Route 66. The problem? At eighty years old, she can’t do it alone, and needs a driver!

MARTHA: Her relationship has just ended, she’s in between jobs, living with her parents, feeling down, and needs a drastic change. She answers Kathleen’s employment ad, seeking a driver, and thinks that the timing couldn’t be more perfect. Let the fun begin!

LIZA: The constant worrywart is nervous about her mother leaving the country, and traveling with a complete stranger! This is NOT a good idea. She’s also frustrated with her twin teenage daughters, and is convinced that her marriage is in shambles. She needs a break from the daily stress of domestic life.

Take a cruise with these women, and prepare yourself for all of the feels. All three of these charming characters touched my heart in their own unique way. Morgan certainly excels at women’s fiction. There’s a good mix of family drama, marriage issues, complex mother/daughter relationships, and female friendship. It’s the perfect book to kickstart your summer reading!

I’ve read a handful of this author’s books, and each stands out for the clearly defined (and enjoyable) relationships, with dynamics and conversations that work, allowing you to feel a part of the story while wishing that you were there. When you add in family and the long-standing issues, memories, and expectations, and the potential for the dynamics jump to spectacular heights. And I will say that Morgan did not disappoint, allowing us to understand (and empathize with) each character, their concerns, fears, issues and joys.

Liza is married with twins, and a husband that she’s slowly found herself disenchanted with the stress and worry are too much, and when you add in her mother’s run-in with an intruder, she’s determined that a care home is what she needs in her eighties. Kathleen, in her eightieth year has always made her own choices and lived her life on her terms. While her daughter Liza may very well be having a mid-life crisis, she’s certain the time to jump out and have an adventure has just arrived. She’s going to travel the length of Route 66, after hiring a driver as her daughter won’t go, doesn’t approve of the decision and is currently working out her own thing.

Martha is having her own crisis and is stuck where she cannot see a way to extricate herself. Being forced (or trapped) hasn’t helped her self-esteem or confidence, and while she’s intrigued with Kathleen’s advert for a driver, and having only a few reservations about the opportunity, she would love to just disappear to sort herself out – she decides to go for it. Plans are made and the adventure begins on the long and winding road – and as Kathleen and Martha see new things, experience and share the experience and their lives (as well as some advice), Liza has shaken up her family to the core and isn’t quite sure that it will be enough.

Taking the different people at different stages (and places) in their lives, then shaking them up like a snow globe seems to work wonders for everyone. Kathleen gets a chance to do and see things she had yet to see, all while finding a new friend (and potential ‘daughter stand in’) in Martha. Martha has a chance to share (or not) and find advice and conversation about her own situation, worth and options, and as her confidence grows as she tackles little and larger challenges, she’s starting to see options opening for her – ways out to challenge her long held belief that she was simply stuck. With Liza, her family (for sure) took her for granted as always being there – and perhaps the changes are enough to shake up their behavior and appreciation – all after the anger and sadness is done that is. There are moments when each reader will see themselves (past or present) or find the situations and conversations familiar – or ones that have yet to be explored in their own lives. But far from being an internal and highly “look at my depth’ story – each moment, every challenge is handled with a delicacy that doesn’t affect the enjoyment of the story or the characters and leaves you smiling and feeling far lighter than when you started.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

The Summer Seekers
Sarah Morgan

Sarah Morgan hits another home run with her latest stand-alone novel, The Summer Seekers, a romping fun summer read mixed with some serious family drama-thons that will take readers on the armchair adventure of their life from the English countryside to travel along The Mother Road, Route 66. The storyline is ingenious, the dialogue flows beautifully and the sights and sounds of the road will resonate with all of us who are familiar with the historic highway and will make those who don’t know it want to travel it too. As she weaves through the small towns and big cities in the USA she gives readers insights into her character’s insecurities and how through friendship and a nevere-give-up spirit has them grow into the best of themselves. All her star characters are wonderful but it’s Liza who really stands out because she has the most to lose and Sarah’s brilliant at making her see the right path to follow. Martha and Kathleen both come in a close second as they both effectively clean the skeletons out of their closets too. Fans of Susan Elizabeth Phillips and those who like a rip-roaring chick-lit as a side dish to their serious women’s fiction will find this impossible to put down.
At eighty Kathleen Harrison gets a wake- up call when an intruder breaks into her home and she’s injured. A wake up call that maybe she’s due one last epic road trip, her cat will be fine, her garden will grow in her absence and her rock-star neighbor will have to fend off his own fans because she’s packing her bags and heading for the Mother Road, she’s driving the 2400 plus miles of Route 66. Now to convince her overprotective daughter that she’s got all her marbles and oh maybe she should hire a driver too.
Lisa Lewis has her own problems, her twin teenaged daughters and her husband only think of her as a housekeeper, cook, chauffeur and a fixer. In other words the world she always considered perfect is shattering, so the last thing she needs is to deal with her eighty year old mother’s desire to go half way around the world on an epic road trip. But when her mother asks her to look in on the cat it also gives Liza the perfect opportunity to be alone at her mother’s cottage and do some soul searching. What she didn’t know was that her mother’s sexy rock-star neighbor would play a role.
Martha’s life is literally in the toilet, she’s divorced with no job while living at home with her parents sister. She can never seem to anything right and she can’t seem to make her sleezy ex-husband go away or block him from her phone. Then she reads a help wanted ad to be a driver for an elderly lady who wants to travel across America, the bad thing is that Martha is a terrible driver, but she bucks up and applies for the job. You never know, maybe the old lady won’t notice her inaptitude when it comes to operating an automobile, or maybe Martha will be fired before she ever sees a strip of Route 66.

Received a copy of this book for review. Overall it is a good read for me. Love the chemistry between the main characters. Love all the characters. What I love is that each of them does make a difference to the story as it developed. Like to read how the characters In the story are interrelated to each other. It make the story more exciting to read. The setting of the story is nice and is fit nicely to the story.Story plot are well penned out, with a slight twist to it in the end

The road trip across the US on Route 66 was a big part of this story, but I don't think it was the biggest part. These three women all had to find themselves after being overwhelmed and unappreciated for far too long. I especially felt connected to Liza who was mother/wife to a very busy family: she in particular felt overlooked and invisible, and she'd had enough of it. I have also felt this way at times in my own life (haven't we all!?) and I appreciated the journey Liza took to take back her own life.

I love the way Sarah Morgan writes women and relationships. I always, always, always look forward to whatever she has coming up next. She's just a solid favorite of mine whether she is writing romance or women's fiction.

One of the best books I have read in a long, long time. And that included yesterday’s book The Stepsisters by Susan Mallery. I loved, loved reading and listening to every single word of this beautiful, awe-inspiring, emotional story.

Kathleen, an octogenarian, wanted her adventure. A road trip on Route 66 in California. And she needed a driver. Entered Martha who hated driving, yet wanted to escape her life.

Kathleen’s daughter Liza was the more cautious one, ready to wrap her mom in cotton wool. This story was the journey of their lives and forming a close bond with each other. A little matchmaking on the road trip wouldn’t go amiss, of course.

Relationships were what the story was all about. The complexities of them were explored in minute details. I loved seeing the twisted knots opening up, and love bubbling in their hearts. So many times tears welled up in my eyes on seeing these women take the brave steps to live life on their terms.

A human being is designed to live life, no matter how hard it seems at times.

Author Sarah Morgan
This was so true. The lines from this book inspired me. They helped me see how I had been living my life away from life itself. I might not know what would happen tomorrow but I did understand the steps I would have to take to make it happen.

Some of the lines were epic

Why hadn’t she gone to self-defense classes instead of senior yoga? What use was the downward dog when what you needed was a guard dog?

The author’s writing was as fabulous as ever, seeped in different emotions and colors, showing me life as never before.

Truly, one of the best by author Sarah Morgan

I love road trip novels! Here’s one that puts an unlikely pair in a convertible Ford Mustang on Route 66. What’s not to like, right? Eighty-year-old Kathleen has just had a scare that helped her prioritize her dream of the Mother Road. Up late at night, she hears an intruder in her Cornwall cottage, and wallops him over the head with the cast iron frying pan she’d used for her bacon sandwich supper. The result – daughter Liza doubles down on her demands for the carefree Kathleen to go into a safe retirement home. Instead, Kathleen books flights, a car and hotels, hires 25-year-old Martha as a driver, and the two fly off to Chicago to start the trip. Kathleen quickly realizes Martha truly hates driving, but figures if she is willing to take this job, she must have a good to flee England. And indeed she does. In addition to mourning her grandmother’s recent death, Martha is licking her wounds from a philandering husband – she caught him in flagrante delicto just days after their wedding. While there are important male characters, these three women are at the core of this novel. Each woman’s story contributes to this romance, as Kathleen finally accepts why she has protected her heart for decades, Liza learns to love herself first, and Martha discovers how to love again. So definitely a romance, but also a story of female strength, community, and sharing. Heartwarming and satisfying, though the ending is arguably too neat. Some days, that’s just what you want. Some great description of the road trip, though I think it would have been even better with more detail and interaction with locals. My thanks to HQN (Harlequin) for the digital reading copy provided in exchange for my honest review.

Kathleen is 80 years old and gets a wake up call when a drunk breaks into her home. She has always traveled and been a journalist with a tv show SUMMER SEEKERS. now she want to leave England and travel Route 66 to California. Her daughter, Lisa is having a fit but agrees if she takes a companion. Martha lives with her parents and need a boost to her self esteem. A great story of friends reunited and forgiven, love and finding one’s self. I received a copy of this arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Really fun summer road trip story. I didn’t want it to end. I wished the ending was a bit more wrapped up (would have loved an epilogue), but hoping for a sequel 🤞.

During a year (plus) when travel is not a thing we Canadians can safely do, reading about a couple of characters taking a roadtrip across America was a delight. Sarah Morgan's The Summer Seekers is full of characters who will stick with you - all of whom are struggling with finding their place in life. The fun is reading as they find that place in the most unlikely of ways.

Here's the book's description:
Kathleen is eighty years old. After she has a run-in with an intruder, her daughter wants her to move into a residential home. But she’s not having any of it. What she craves—what she needs—is adventure.
Liza is drowning in the daily stress of family life. The last thing she needs is her mother jetting off on a wild holiday, making Liza long for a solo summer of her own.
Martha is having a quarter-life crisis. Unemployed, unloved and uninspired, she just can’t get her life together. But she knows something has to change.
When Martha sees Kathleen’s advertisement for a driver and companion to share an epic road trip across America with, she decides this job might be the answer to her prayers. She's not the world's best driver, but anything has to be better than living with her parents. And traveling with a stranger? No problem. Anyway, how much trouble can one eighty-year-old woman be?
As these women embark on the journey of a lifetime, they all discover it's never too late to start over…
Each woman in the story was struggling with their current life situation for various reasons. Kathleen is getting older and a recent break in to her house has her a bit rattled. Liza is worried about her mom (no matter that she fended off the intruder with a skillet. Frying pans, who knew?) and her family, her mom excluded, is taking her for granted. Martha is stuck living at home and is feeling unmoored and not sure what she should be doing with her life. The three come together, Martha being a total stranger but totally right for what Kathleen needed, and they help each other get to where they need to be. Literally, in the case of Martha driving Kathleen along Route 66!

I absolutely loved that Kathleen had been a presenter for a travel show in her youth. And not even her youth as you'd typically expect - she was still jetting off for the show when Liza was young and Kathleen was well into her 40s. She seemed to be so great and so magnetic and it would have been really cool to watch her show. It was also so unique and I definitely have not read about a former travel show presenter before!

I think this book was a wee bit too long. There were some repetitious scenes and phrases and I found myself just wishing they'd get on with it. I know I was reading an egalley but those types of things aren't normally changed in the final edition. It might be different if there was a ton of action but this was a very character driven (ha...no pun intended) story so reading the same type of scenes over and over again got kinda boring.

I always have such a fun time reading Morgan's novels but I've found that since she's moved from romance to contemporary fiction, a lot of her stories feel...the same. So many focus on mothers and daughters along with multiple viewpoints and I think I'm kind of over that. I don't want to be reading the same thing over and over again. There can only be so many family problems in this format and I feel like Morgan's written them all a couple of times over. It doesn't mean this story is bad. It's not. It's fun and the relationships are so lovely and you can't help but fall in love with everyone. But I expect more from Morgan and if her next Christmas read doesn't thrill me? I might need to take a break.

The Summer Seekers was a lovely read featuring three engaging characters on emotional journeys, even while two of them are on physical journeys across America. Relationships of all manners are explored in Sarah Morgan's latest novel and you can't help but root for everyone throughout the story.

I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. If you are like me and judge a book by its cover, take heart. This book was wonderful even though the cover is a bit meh. This is the story of three women all at different stages of life. Kathleen is 80 years old and not ready to move into a care home. She wants one last adventure and decides to head to the USA and drive Route 66. Of course, her daughter Liza is totally against this. Liza is as uptight as Kathleen is a free spirit. Her life is taking care of her husband and twin teenage daughters as well as teaching. She has stopped painting which was the one thing she did for herself. Martha has just left a relationship that did nothing for her and is unemployed. When Kathleen places an advertisement for a driver for her trip, Martha responds and even though she is not a good driver, she wants a new opportunity and to get away from her ex. These women are all at a crossroads in their life and this summer adventure will change all three of them.

This woman’s fiction read is full of fun, family, travel and a bit of romance on the open road. I quickly fell in love with the three main characters and enjoyed watching them grow. The story was told from all three POVs, but it was not disjointed at all. I enjoyed learning their stories as they opened up to each other and some of the secondary characters, often sharing information and feelings that they has not shared with anyone. Liza's family made me so angry at times. They treated her like a servant and were selfish, but I liked that Liza was able to see her part in this and make changes. Each of these women came to some conclusions about their lives and made decisions that helped them move forward in the directions they chose. I enjoyed every minute of their journeys not only on the road but emotionally as well. This is one I recommend to those who enjoy stories of self-reflection and discovery, family, love and caring. The audiobook was narrated by Georgina Sutton. She is a new narrator to me and I enjoyed her performance of this book. She gave each of the main characters their own voice and her expression and emotion were spot on. I did a read/listen with this one, flipping back and forth depending upon what I was doing. Both the ebook and the audiobook were a great way to enjoy this story.

THE SUMMER SEEKERS by Sarah Morgan is an epic road trip of discovery all wrapped up in this women’s fiction novel for the summer. The adventure, heartbreak, joy and love intertwines between these three protagonists in Ms. Morgan’s enchanting story.

Kathleen is eighty years old and wants one more grand adventure. The original “Summer Seeker” knows she will need help with her planned journey across America on the original Route 66.

Martha is twenty-five, unemployed and living at home with her parents who continually compare her to her successful sister. She is ready for a change and what could be more of a change than crossing the ocean for a road trip driving and being the companion of an octogenarian.

Liza is Kathleen’s daughter and have a personal crisis of her own. Having believed she would be a better wife and mother than her own, she discovers she has become unappreciated and taken for granted. She decides to take her mother’s advice and begin to put herself first.

These three women embark on journeys that will make them all realize it is never too late to start over.
I loved this book so much! The three women, in the three main stages of life are unhappy and this book takes them on a beautiful emotional and enlightening journey of self-discovery. This is a character driven story with a great road trip that is the perfect summer get away read.

I highly recommend The Summer Seekers!

Mother and daughter relationship can be the most important yet difficult relationship to maintain. I am not saying that it cannot be managed but it is tricky to maintain over the years especially in Kathleen and Liza's case. Kathleen and Liza have maintained a frosty mother-daughter relationship since forever. Kathleen has always been an adventure traveler that she made it as her career. She has gone to different places throughout the years that made her independent and fierce, but yet it left her with a troubling relationship with her daughter, Liza. It makes you wonder if Liza has ever resented her mother leaving throughout the years all the times. And it's something Kathleen has wondered when she starts a brand new adventure. Liza may not have said it but she does regret her cold relationship with her mother. And she definitely needs her mother even more when she is having doubts in her marriage. It is okay to have doubts in your marriage. No marriage is ever perfect. Sometimes, you just need space to think. And that's what Liza is going to do. It may not have been planned but it was much needed. She will discover what is missing in her life and her marriage as well. Life can be uncertain at times but it does provide surprises especially in Kathleen and Liza's case.

I adored The Summer Seekers. Kathleen is a hoot and my heart ached for her. Liza had my sympathy and I loved following her growth. And Martha? What an adorable addition to the story. She was written perfectly and exactly who Kathleen needed (And Kathleen knew exactly what Martha needed, winkwink).

This is a fantastic summer read that covers love and heartache of all kinds, strength, friendship, and much needed self care.

I received an advanced copy of this book, all opinions are my own.
