I loved this book! It's well-written, enjoyable, and a great read. Viola Shipman did a great job of writing in a way that captures the readers attention, and makes you not want to put it down until you're finished! I would highly recommend it!

3.5 stars.

I used to eat up stories about groups of women jetting off to a place where childhood memories abound to repair broken relationships, but I think I'm finding that is just not my jam anymore.

This was my first Viola Shipman and I will say, the writing was good, the story was intricately interwoven, and the setting of a childhood summer camp was divine. But unfortunately, the plot was tired. I've read this story before in so many variations. Childhood friends have a falling out, someone's marriage is in trouble, someone falls in love with someone new, there's a saving grace, and everything gets tied up in a bow again.

If you love women's fiction and heartwarming stories, this will definitely be for you.

I am a big fan of viola shipman and this book was so much fun to read. A little mysterious at times, but mostly focused on female friendships before and after betrayal and loss. I genuinely loved both parts of the story, the flashbacks from their youth at camp and the current events happening during their reunion.

There is a lot of emotional turmoil in The Clover Girls but it was beautifully done. It feels like we are, as a society, becoming more comfortable with the idea that events from our childhoods can have lasting impacts. The phrase, "it happened years ago," doesn't quite mean what it used to. Just because something happened a long time ago doesn't mean that we've dealt with or that it didn't shape the person we are today.

Young friendships are valid, foundational relationships that might have a more lasting impact than many of our transient adult friendships.

Anyway, the story is well written and paced. I enjoyed reading it so much, as I have with other Viola Shipman books, but I am admittedly a big fan of their writing. I have already bought my mother a copy for mother's day. This one is a perfect gift.

I have collected Viola Shipman's books for years, But this is the first one I have read (Thanks to netgally for the ARC copy). However, I can not say this book warrents me to want to read anything else by Viola Shipman. It was actually a DNF at 40%. I did not find the plot interesting. Which is a bummer.

My first by this author and I quite enjoyed it. Slightly predictable but decent character arcs. Will recommend.

This book spoke to me as a girl who attended summer Bible camps. Each year I'd look forward to making new friends and all the camp rituals. The name of my camp was Camp Pin Oak and I loved the whole experience. I was only able to go a couple of times, once by myself and once when my sister came along. I experienced a few troublesome moments in this book. These girls became "friends" in camp, yet did some horrible things to each other. In my book, this would not constitute me being a friend to this group at all. My friendships do not work like that. I have had lifelong friends, who have treated me with love and respect my entire life. Sure, if there was a slip up at this stage of my life, I would probably forgive and forget, but at the age of those girls at camp, not so much. Not enough history to prove this would be a friendship worth nurturing. Even with this, I did enjoy the book and looked forward to seeing how this would play out. I am glad that they were able to reconnect, hopefully on a more secure foundation. I would recommend this book for a summer read.

This was my first book by Viola Shipman but it will not be my last. It brought back so many memories of childhood friends and experiences. I loved it.

I enjoyed reading this book, it was a great beach read, and I enjoyed going through this journey. The author had a great style and it was a great read.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

I couldn't really get into this book. The synopsis drew me in as I love all things 80s but I found all the characters unlikeable and tedious. All they did was whine about how their lives turned out, taking no responsibility for their actions. Maybe they do something down the line but I didn't feel like sticking around to find out.

Elizabeth, Veronica, Rachel and Emily met at Camp Birchwood as girls in 1985, where they became the Clover Girls for four summers. They always thought that they would be friends forEVER, until the ultimate betrayal against one broke them apart. Now in their middle ages, the women each have their own challenges in life. When the mother hen of the group - Emily - writes to each woman with a story to tell, will the women come back together at the place where their friendship began?

Having read the previous novels by Viola Shipman, I was expecting a well imagined story with women facing hardships or relationship challenges. Honestly, I did not like The Clover Girls as much as I was hoping. Although the camp aspects of the story took me back to my own childhood, the plot and the characters were not as richly developed as the setting itself. As the author takes the reader from present to past and back again, I did not get the connection that I usually feel to Shipman's characters.

Ultimately, I was disappointed in the sluggish nature of the plot and the characters. The Clover Girls was not as good as I was expecting from this veteran author, with its lackluster story and two dimensional characters. A beach read at best, I would be hesitant to recommend the novel to other readers.

First book that I have read by this author and I absolutely loved it.
Elizabeth, V, Rach and Emily become best of friends when they meet at Camp Birchwood. They clone themselves The Clover Girls.
Something happened that pulled them apart and they haven’t spoken in years. The three girls get a letter from Emily saying she has died and her wish is to have them spread her ashes at the camp and so they all go back to the camp.
Once there, they find that Emily, who has never married or had kids has purchased the Camp and want the three of them to decide what to do with it. The three women try to work out their past grievances with each other and realize that their friendships meant more to them then what they thought and are heartbroken that they lost touch for so long.

This book started off with potential, but seemed to go on way too long. It lost my interest, even though I did finish it. Not my favorite

Elizabeth, Veronica, Rachel, and Emily become best friends at summer camp in 1985 but as time passes, they lose touch with one another and it's not until Liz, V, and Rachel receive a letter about Emily's death that they return to the camp to re-establish their relationships which in retrospective were not as ideal as they I gained they were. As each woman confronts her past, they need to decide to forgive one another.
A good story about the importance of friendship and the struggles that women often face before they become the best versions of themselves,
Recommended for readers who like strong women characters.

DNF - Did not finish. I decided not to keep reading this title because I’d did not connect with the writing or plot. Thank you, NetGalley and publisher for the early copy!

The Clover Girls by Viola Shipman brings back a lot of summer memories. It delves into "girl" issues that don't seem to have changed through the years.

This book was an easy read although I thought it got bogged down in the middle; just seemed to go on a little too long. I loved other books by this author but didn't think this one was as good a read as others.

This was a sweet tale of four best friends who had a falling out. Then a call for help from one of them, had them meeting each other, a reunion. This showed all facets of friendship. I liked how emotions were in the words that had me reading the book a bit more quickly. I liked the 80s backdrop too.T

What a positively lovely book. I’ve loved everything Viola Shipman has written and the books just keep getting better and better. I went into this one fully expecting that there would be tears - because pretty much every one of Viola’s books has made me big ugly cry. I cried reading this one too, but not because I was sad. For those of us who were teenagers in the ‘80s, the nostalgia and sentiment is strong here. My friends and I could have been Em, V, Liz and Rachel. This book brought back so many memories of my teenage years. It made me want to call each and every one of my high school girlfriends. If you’re looking for a read that will make your heart feel full, The Clover Girls fits the bill.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

I love a book that reminds me of lazy summer days as a kid, and The Clover Girls was exactly that. Four girls enjoy summer overnight camp together and then grow apart. When one of them dies many years later, the grown women are reunited at their old sleepaway camp to face memories and betrayals and to work through their issues and relationships.

Such a fun read! Thank you for making me part of the tour and for my copy!

What a great story of childhood friends meeting again as adults. Jealousy, betrayal, and hurt feelings all enter into the picture.
Elizabeth, Veronica, Rachel and Emily met at Camp Birchwood as girls in 1985, where over four summers they were the Clover Girls—inseparable for those magical few weeks of freedom—until the last summer . Now Emily has summoned them all back with a proposition. Stay a week and she gives them the camp. If they don’t the state gets the land. I loved the 4 girls and how some stayed in touch ..it amazes me that a male writer can develop this story so well. I received a copy of this arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.
