The premise of this app that controls everything was giving me 'Smart House' vibes, but ultimately the writing felt lacking, and I wasn't able to really get into the story.

the cover was really trippy and worked really well together, I had a lot of fun reading this. It was an enjoyable young adult novel and I look forward to more in this series.

I just think I need to stop with sci fi. This wasn't for me and I didn't enjoy it one bit. The premise was interesting, but the execution fell short.

Cyber Spy is a gripping read that keeps you hooked as it explores the darker side of social media. The side we all know exists but don't really want to talk about it. The app in the book is one you could imagine actually being real which is what gives the story a very powerful sense of realism.

I wanted to love this book so much but the plot was so convoluted and the art style didn't help at all to make this a clear book.

Certainly showed what social media is capable of.
Very interesting concept, showing how social media is changing not just technology but us along with it. The characters were enjoyable to read.
I'm looking forward to what more the author brings to us with this as a series.

Cyber Spy centers on an app that is developed and how it makes a person's life be on display all the time.. It was an interesting read, and I enjoyed it even though I am an adult. Saying that I would think this title would be better suited for middle grade or juvenile/young teen, rather than YA.
This was such a splendid book to read. I could read it in one sitting and I enjoyed the suspense and how the author kept you guessing throughout the book. I am a fan of suspense and mystery novels, and I felt the author did a good job at how she wrote it. I am looking forward to seeing how the rest of the series goes.

The synopsis sounds really good. The idea of the Lifeview app is terrifying, so the idea is there, but the writing is not good.

The author seems to have a big problem with tense, as it constantly changes within the one sentence or paragraph. Just one example; "I lay on my bed staring up at the ceiling. That smile wouldn't leave my thoughts." The tense is lost and these sentences do not make sense together. This is a consistent problem throughout the book and it is very frustrating.

For a book that took so long to finally be published, you would think the final published copy would be much cleaner. There are so many issues with the writing itself. There are typos, missing words, and there is extremely poor sentence structure.. Not to mention the formatting and changes in font during the flashbacks is - bizarre.

As for the story itself, again, I thought the idea was there, but the execution let it down. The protag is incredibly immature and should be written as 16, not 21.

Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy it and I don't recommend it.

Though I love the techno-noir idea around the app, the characters and dialogue were forced. I connected to none of them, and Chord was creepy.

Cyber Spy tells the story of Rebekkah and her ex-best friend Chord. Chord left Rebekkah to further his music career and her life has been kind of boring since. When the app "Lifeview" becomes active, her entire world changes. Rebekkah has to stop Grey, some mysterious cyber spy who terrorizes young people through the app.

I don't really know how to feel about this book. It definetely tried to talk about a lot of actual things, like the dangers that can lie in using apps/internet and a lot of mental health issues like PTSD , panic attacks, schizophrenia.
The world building was okay, the characters were pretty good. But when the author made the antagonist being driven by a mental health issue, that was kind of a no go for me.

1.5⭐

Where to start, this book is the first I read by the author and the last, the synopsis and the cover caught my attention and it sounded like a good juvenile crime book, what a great disappointment when I realized that it was not at all what I expected and that the plot, in the end, did not have a specific purpose.

The book is about Rebekkah Rye, a young woman with a terrible past who has faced many things that have left her traumatized, for which she suffers from panic attacks and PTSD. The attacks are basically flashbacks from the past but they are very abrupt that even at certain points you can get lost, I can assure you that 40% of the book are at least flashbacks, which is annoying. Returning to the plot, she and her former best friend Chord Price, now a superstar, must meet again to catch a cyber-criminal who is responsible for causing terror to young people through an App; Lifeview. Here intimate content is shared because the application is responsible for live streaming everything a person does while their phone is close.
"Everyone is downloading this app. It's a continuous live stream on your phone. It watches you through the camera on the front or through the one on the back.”

The plot sounds very good and more because it talks about the dangers of the internet, as well as how fragile our privacy is as users, but unfortunately, it had many terrible points. The plot touches many points that end up causing its objective to be lost, it's very rushed and I laughed when they discovered who the "bad guys" were, it was obvious but how "smart" they are, it was really very bad, I would say that the book is for children and even teenagers because of how dramatic the story was handled but because of the issues it deals with, I can't really recommend it to children. One point to emphasize is the format, it may be because it's an ARC but it has many errors and the structure is terrible.

What I hated the most was the protagonist Rye, her friend Chord described it perfectly:
"She is being so immature about this."

Immature, silly, dense, dramatic, violent. Her mother has depression and a terrible trauma but why she makes her the bad one, I don't understand, how is she 21 years old and can't think and decides to act like she was 15. I don't even want to remember how she attacked and abused Chord for nothing and of course it doesn't matter because she is a woman, her hatred towards "plastic" women and not only hers but everyone's was annoying, I won't even say more. The way she acts without thinking and without a plan and in the end everything works out, yes, no thanks.
“How could you guys be so stupid to just walk up to this warehouse without a single plan? I mean heck. It was way too easy to trap you”

Luna, I will not say anything about her, she is Rye's best friend but her story did not make sense, Carson hated him since he appeared and it was obvious what his role would be. Rye's mother deserves better than her daughter, period.

In general, the book can improve because the story has a lot of potential for its current relevance. Reminder to stop choosing books by the cover, I'll give it points for that cover.

I really liked this book, up until the point that the discussion of mental health being a driver of the supposed antagonist. I understand that it probably wasn't intentional but the schizophrenia plot point really drives the negative stigma on mental illness. Not only that, but it is also very rare for female teenagers to be diagnosed with schizophrenia as women usually demonstrate symptoms of schizophrenia in their late twenties/thirties whereas men usually showcase symptoms earlier. Anti-psychotics are also rarely prescribed to 13-year-olds as there are issues with the development of their minds. I like that the book touches on depression, PTSD, anxiety, etc but I wish there had been more consideration regarding the negative stigma that can come as a result of utilising mental illness in this way. Before that, the plot had a few issues, like unlocking phones in different areas of the country and installing an app that cannot be removed, but I do not expect that the author has particular knowledge of the access limitations/privileges of applications on different phones/operating systems.

A sci-fi story surrounding the development of an app called Lifeview where a person’s life is on display all the time and how this effects our two MCs. Dark pasts come to the forefront as our characters interact and find ways to deal with this new technological threat.
I liked the premise and concept of this book. The writing was easy to read and flowed naturally.
However, this book feels like it was written for a much younger audience - closer to teen or juvenile fiction rather than YA. The book did feel a little rushed and while the author does intend to write further on this story, perhaps this book may have benefited from slower pacing and more time focusing on the characters and themes developing throughout the book.

This is another reviewers post, but it’s everything I thought!

This book was creepy, but it seemed forced and dull. It was entertaining, and it gave me chills, but it isn't a book that I have love reading. Overall, this is a decent book if you enjoy creepy social media stories and short stories, but otherwise, it's not that great

Lifeview is a popular app that records you 24/7 for followers to see. It is your life unfiltered. When an interviewer asked Chord about Lifeview, he decided to check it out even though he found it sketchy. When he opened the app, he saw his ex-best friend, Rye. When he went to visit her, they both found out something shocking!

This book was amazing! It is probably one of my favorite thriller books. The author was spreading awareness about the dark side of social media. Another thing I really enjoyed was the perspective of Chord and Rye.
