Deep River, Alaska – Present Day

After Caleb West died, friend and co-business owner Zeke Calhoun disappeared shortly after the funeral. His fellow business owners, Silas and Damon, have decided to stay in Deep River and move the business there, but Zeke can’t be found. One day, Zeke shows up, but he doesn’t make his presence known to anyone—except to Caleb’s sister, Morgan, who is a village public safety officer in the small town. He informs her that after Caleb’s death, he received a letter asking him to take care of Morgan. Unfortunately, Zeke has been lax in the job—and he is trying to get over his guilt as he blames himself for Caleb's death. Morgan can pretty much take care of herself, but that doesn’t stop Zeke from starting on repairs to her cabin. What exactly did Caleb mean when he told Zeke to take care of Morgan?

Morgan feels all alone after her brother died since both her parents are gone. Though she has the whole town as her circle of friends, nothing beats having a sexy, hot handyman around. While she insists to Zeke that she doesn’t need his assistance, she doesn’t stop him from repairing her roof—or her baking him cookies. She offers him a place to stay, but he prefers to stay at a remote campsite in his tent. Zeke is like a mountain man—and Morgan wonders if she can tame him. Zeke’s plans are to stay in town long enough to make sure Morgan is taken care of, but will the sparks that fly between them lead to him settling down?

Zeke has a secret. Even Silas and Damon don’t know what it is and he’s afraid that everyone in Deep River will hate him if the information comes out. But he valued his friendship with Caleb and knows that he must honor the man’s request to take care of Morgan. Morgan is used to being independent, but she comes to enjoy what Zeke is doing. Along the way, she learns more about the mountain man, but will he reveal to her what his secret is? How will it play out in THAT DEEP RIVER FEELING?

Morgan and Zeke start out as enemies in this tale, but as she begins to understand him better and he trusts her, they grow closer. Neither has a reason to reveal their secret pain, yet that is exactly what happens in THAT DEEP RIVER FEELING. This is the third (and presumably the final) book in the series about three men who were devastated by the untimely death of Caleb West. Each of the heroines has ties to Deep River, while the men never thought they’d make it their home. What changes? How will Zeke come to grips with the secret that could rock the town and change his relationship with his friends?

THAT DEEP RIVER FEELING is a sizzling and emotional romance of a couple who shouldn’t work together, but they do. Find out how Morgan and Zeke fall in love and how the series ends.

An unusual romance. Couple has issues that are quite diverse yet seem to be similar in their feelings of self worth. It took a little time for me to understand Zeke and his sense of being. He is a functioning adult, but obviously has mental limitations. Probably not the proper terminology. Once I realized his issues I became more empathetic. Something his parents never were able to do as they wanted and expected him to be a normal child. I have not read the previous books in this series. I did skip over the intimate details. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. The blurb mentions a crime that he did not commit and being on the run. Nothing I read said anything about that.

This was good. I like a dark broody hero and this one didnt disappoint. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love a smart, strong female lead. I really like a quiet, alpha male lead that's not intimidated by a strong female.
That Deep River Feeling, is my favorite book in this series.

I absolutely loved this book! This is my first book from this author, and I was amazed. The writing was fluid and dynamic. It kept me so engaged I had to stay until 4 am so I could finish it. The story was beautifully written. *Applause for the author*

I liked both main characters. Though at one point I felt Morgan was a bit clueless about Zeke.

Morgan West first met Zeke Montgomery at her brother Caleb’s funeral. Earlier Zeke had received a letter from Caleb after the reading of Caleb’s will Caleb’s instructing Zeke to take care of Morgan when once Cal’s gone.

But Morgan is adamant and refuses any help from Zeke. Not to mention that she was also a Village Safety Protection Officer, the rural equivalent of an Alaskan State Trooper.

Zeke had arrived in Deep River a tiny, Alaskan town he and his two best friends and ex-army buddies, Silas Quinn and Damon Fitzgerald had inherited after Caleb’s death, a couple of nights earlier.

Oil reserves had been discovered lying beneath the town, oil that now belonged not only to Cal’s three friends who’d inherited the town from him, a fact that Caleb kept from his sister.

As a flicker of romance lights between Morgan and Zeke, could their circumstances lead to true love?
A cute romance story. Would recommend

Thank you to Jackie Ashenden, NetGalley, and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the ARC of this book.

The rugged and wild men in this book grabbed my heart from the very beginning. I loved the inner relationship between a strong independent woman and a rugged, wild mountain man. I always loved reading romances based in Alaska and this book delivers.

Not your usual love story, but a wonderful one featuring a different, unique hero and an interesting heroine, too, “That Deep River Feeling”, by Jackie Ashenden (SourceBooks Casablanca), takes place in the small town in Alaska, presenting characters from previous books in the series.
Such a tortured Alpha: serious, grumpy Zach is a wild mountain man, too honest, too blunt, incapable of deciphering others’ feelings and reading social clues, wary of human contact.
His loneliness is palpable and depicted well but other issues seen as limitations or weaknesses are told so often that it might become redundant.
His self-awareness of the “defects” – he admits having no sense of humor, disliking flirting or being unable to “do emotion” – is sometimes hard to read.
I liked that Morgan, the “small, tough no-nonsense cop”, was so good reading and dealing with Zach’s idiosyncrasies and helps him overcome the sense of being defective.
Watching him trying to resist Morgan and the monologue going on is so fun.
I’m not sure how I feel about the author’s option of only implying about the hero’s condition; some aspects remain unclear or vague.
But I do love a gruff hero, and Bear is a fantastic and reluctantly romantic male.

I really enjoyed book 3 of Jackie Ashenden's Deep River Alaska Home-coming series. I hadn't read the previous 2 books but feel this one can be read as a stand-alone as even though characters from the earlier books are involved in the oil company Vs town plot, their appearance in book 3 does not take away from the main couple's story. I love stories about small town communities and eccentric characters like "Filthy Phil", who plays an important role in influencing the gruff "man of few words" hero, Zeke Montgomery, to re-examine his attitude about relationships. Morgan West (heroine) and Zeke are kind and honest people who both have insecurities about relationships and intimacy as a result of their painful pasts which in turn causes them to be somewhat awkward and blunt at times. I really liked how their barriers fell down as they gradually revealed and shared their deepest fears to each other. If ever two people deserve a well-deserved HEA, it has to be Morgan and Zeke - sigh! I really rooted for this couple and am happy to recommend this book.

Thanks to SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca and NetGallery for a complimentary copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

I am a fan of this author and read anything she writes. This was the third book of the series and concentrates on Zeke, the wandering, lost soul. This story is focusing on his relationship with Morgan. These stories are short and sweet, which makes sense for the plot lines. The outcome is predictable, but that's really okay because of the characters and the small-town environment; dragging the story out would be uninteresting. Overall, I enjoyed this installment of the series.

This story pulled me in from the very beginning. Sweet and quirky love story with all the feels. Very heartwarming!!

I absolutely hated the first chapter of this book. Both characters attitudes were sooo off putting. Come to find out the girl is a virgin, which I'm not shocked about because of her general demeanor towards Zeke. I also want to know if Zeke has Asperger's and it's just not ever stated? These 2 characters are down right awkward.

3.5 stars but I will give it a 3 based on rating system. The story is just alright. This was not my favorite read. I would not recommend.

Thank you Jackie Ashenden, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Netgalley for this ARC

I received That Deep River Feeling as part of a Goodreads giveaway.

Zeke Calhoun made a promise to his late friend, Caleb West: to take care of his younger sister, Morgan West, the only police officer in the tiny Alaskan village of Deep River. At first, Zeke is a man physically and emotionally apart; wounded by rejections and wrongs in his past, he lives off the land and refuses to engage with the community. Something about Morgan, though, is different, and as they send more time together, they identify a kindred spirit in one another. However, when a threat with ties to Zeke casts a shadow over the Deep River community, he will have to

This was a sweet romance. I'm a sucker for an emotionally-constipated hero being brought back to life. The story progressed at a nice pace, and I appreciated that when something in his life went wrong, Zeke went to Morgan when rather than letting it blow up in some dramatic fashion. It speaks to a maturity between the two characters that's often lacking in romance novels. Deep River is a cute little world that I wouldn't' mind revisiting again.
