Loved this more then life itself. It was a fresh take on a very popular couple that could have been super boring but was spicy and absolute perfection. Cant wait for book 2.

Robert did a good job of putting her own spin on the Olympus lore and putting it in a modern day setting. It was interesting to see how the personalities she assigned to the various members of the pantheon including the two main ones. I find the spice level to be pretty high but then again I don't know where it is at in comparison to her others. I would want to read more about some of the characters especially her sisters. I even intrigued to hear more of Hermes story.

I feel some of the true motives and by extension redemptive arcs came too late for some of the characters to make me want to give them a chance. To say more would be a spoiler but there were a few that I was left with at the end of story going, I don't hate you as much but I still don't like you.

I feel this was a good place for me to start with this author since while it was still a steamy and dark romance, it wasn't as spicy as she can get. I'm not sure if I would read her spicier stuff because it may be outside my comfort zone but after enjoying this one I'm more inclined to give it a try.

If you're looking for another Hades and Persephone myth remix, this would be a good option.

While I did like this one because of the steam, Hades was a bit too much of a cinnamon roll. It was a super fun twist on Hades & Persephone.

Okay, Okay, I know that this is a smutty book, and the smut was amazing! But what really made me love this book was the fluff between the two characters; I WAS SO INVESTED!

The switch-up of lore and how Zeus, Demeter etc. is a title chosen by the people has more of a political setting than magic; it was an exciting change from the usual retellings.
I enjoyed the swap in gender for Hermes too!

The best Hades & Persephone retelling I have ever read. Their dynamic was so interesting and refreshing. The spice was amazing and the themes of consent throughout the book were nice. Highly recommend!

NEON GODS is my first book from Katee Robert and Iโ€™m already enchanted by her storytelling, and now Iโ€™m on a mission to acquire every book with her name on it. A fantastic Hades and Persephone retelling with lots of steam, and a very modern bent that breathes new life and brings uniqueness into this familiar tale.

Much of the story centers around politics as the gods battle for power in the city of Olympus and vie to become the most powerful of the Thirteen Houses. After a situation where Persephone is promised as a wife to Zeus, she has no other choice but to try and seek freedom by crossing the River Styx and escaping to the Lower City. Hadesโ€™ territory. The god who everyone presumes is dead. Who turns out to be very much alive, very different from what the rumors say, and very much into protecting his hardwood floors. โฃ

Filled with politics and danger, smut and steam, this is definitely a series that has that delightfully addictive quality where you canโ€™t help but devour it in one day. I absolutely loved everything about this book from the super interesting power structure within Olympus to the relationship between Hades and Persephone. Sure, they were steamy as hell, but there was such a beautiful sweetness underneath all that heat. And I love that Persephone is certainly not a damsel in distress, as sheโ€™s willing to fight and protect Hades just as much as heโ€™s willing to do for her. โฃ

All told โ€” a fantastic first entry in a new series, and I will be waiting impatiently for book 2 where spoiled rich-boy Eros will get his chance at love. 4.5 stars. โฃ

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley. All opinions are my own. Neon Gods by Katee Robert is the first book Dark Olympus, her contemporary retelling of Greek Myths series. This super steamy retelling of the story of Hades and Persephone didnโ€™t really work for me I found the characters bland, thought the world-building needed more explanation and the plot stale. I was looking for a fresh take on the characters similar to her delightful Disney Villains series and I didnโ€™t find it in this book. Steam Level: Very Steamy. Publishing Date: June 1. 2021. #NeonGods #KateeRobert #SourceBooksCasablanca #ContemporaryRomance #EroticRomance #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #NetGalley #HadesAndPersephone

This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. She has a lot of books so Iโ€™m definitely going to go through her backlist and read the rest of her books.

Iโ€™ve never read a Hades and Persephone retelling but this definitely lived up to my expectations from all of the hype surrounding this book. Hades and Persephone are both really enjoyable characters. I was expecting Hades to be colder and harder than he actually was. Iโ€™m not complaining though. I loved that he was so caring and โ€œcinnamon rollโ€ like. One of my favorite things about this book was how gentle, protective, and caring he was with Persephone and that he was always making sure she consented to whatever was going on.

This book had a different kind of spice than what Iโ€™m used to reading. Iโ€™ve never read anything with kink play in it, but I enjoyed it.

I wish there had been some more world building surrounding the Thirteen and Olympus. I was a little confused at first since it appears that people are basically elected to God status but it isnโ€™t really talked about in much detail. Other than that, this was an enjoyable read and Iโ€™m looking forward to reading more of Kateeโ€™s backlist and also the next book in this series thatโ€™s coming out next year!

3.5 stars. This was fun, but I don't think that it quite delivered what I was looking for in a Hades/Persephone retelling. I REALLY loved the dynamic between Hades and Persephone when it was just the two of them together, but I struggled to care about the story as a whole? I never felt truly compelled to believe the stakes of the story so I never really connected to the characters beyond the surface level. With that being said, this book was still HOT AS HECK and a very fun audiobook listen, but I'm not sure if I will carry on with the series beyond this point. We shall see!

I love Greek Mythology and when I heard Katee Robert was writing a romance based around the Hades and Persephone myth I was so excited. This one sadly left me feeling a little disappointed. I was expecting more and found this more erotica rather than a romance. This book is very smutty so if that's what you're looking for you're in the right place.
I am interested to see how Ms Robert is going to do the Psyche/Eros myth seeing as Psyche was introduced in neon Gods and is very different from the mythology. I'll just have to wait and see.

I've read several Katee Roberts novels and this has to be my favorite one. All of my knowledge is comparing this book to her Wicked Villains series. These characters has dimension. There was a complete storyline. The sex scenes were well written. It did not feel formulaic as her other books have felt.

Katee Robert has such a fun imagination. I love how her stories are TWISTS on other stories, the reader already knows. Neon Gods was no exception. Fun, steamy, and so quick to read! I will gobble up anything she writes!

This was a really enjoyable interpretation of the Hades and Persephone myth, and I do look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series. I just don't think it was very memorable in terms of the characters and when the general plot of the story is already so well known, I feel like you really have to stand out with unique or well loved main characters and this book just didn't do that for me.

The sex scenes were good and it all made sense and was fun to read, but while this is a book I'd recommend to people it isn't one that's going to be a favorite.

Thank you Sourcebooks Casablanca for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

I will never get tired of Hades and Persephone retellings. Neon Gods is a great sexy and hot outtake. The story is both character and plot driven.

Demeter's daughter, Persephone was betrothed to Zeus. Such arrangement without her knowledge drives her away because of Zeus' reputation of murdering his partners. The God of Olympus is never satisfied and she's terrified for her life. When she's threatened, she is on survival mode and landed in the lower city.

The lower city is headed by the God of the Underworld, Hades. Everyone considers him as a myth because he never appears in the Upper City for important events. However, Persephone owes Hades for saving her life. Now she's in his possession, he'll use her plotting his revenge against Zeus but he never expected to fall for her.

I love the direction it took and I grew to love the side characters as well. Hades is a grumpy hero but he's a soft dom. He cares for Persephone a lot even if he tries to pretend. Persephone is SO SASSY AND BOLD. She's not a damsel in distress and she acts like regal. Imagine her waving a middle finger to Zeus. Damn, I love it! The best part of this book is its plot twist. I never saw it coming and I'm looking at Demeter. I am excited for the upcoming books for this series. Katee Robert is amazing writing love story retellings like this.

Fans of Katee Robert won't be disappointed. It very much reads like most of Robert's novels: dripping in sex to the point of exhaustion. In a good way.
But there was a ton of hype around this book and I think I may have gone in expecting something different, or more. And that wasn't the case.
The series is slickly advertised as a retelling of the Persephone x Hades myth, and Robert builds this strange world with corporate bigwigs playing the roles of gods in a semi-magical world that is equal parts big, bad city and magical fight scenes.. Persephone is the daughter of a bigwig wannabe who basically sells her daughter out to marry Zeus, who is known for stacking up a pile of dead wives. Persephone flees to an off-limits part of the city only to find it is ruled by Hades, who is long thought to be gone or dead. But he's very much alive and exchanges Persephone's safety for a chance to piss off Zeus. Sexy escapades ensue as they often do in Robert's books.
I enjoyed the premise but think Robert too often sets her world building and plots around corporate business dealings and honestly, in 2021, there is nothing less sexy than hearing a powerful billionaire whine about sex, god or not. .

โ€œOnly you could manage to run away and fall into bed with a sexy man determined to do anything to protect you. Youโ€™re truly gods-blessed, Persephone.โ€

Summary
Olympus is a modern day city, divided in half by the River Styx. The Thirteen rule over the city, which are the titles of the Greek gods, passed down from generation to generation. Persephone, the daughter of Demeter, is saving up to escape the city when her mother springs a surprise engagement to Zeus upon her. Desperate to escape her fate, she runs across the River Styx to the lower city. There, she encounters Hades who she has only believed to be a myth.

Review
AHHHH I loved this so much, I read it in one day!!! I couldn't put it down. I am a big fan of Katee Robert's work so this is not much of a surprise :p

Hades and Persephone is a myth that is often retold these days, but I love it every single time. They are the original grumpy x sunshine couple. This romance was set up with lots of intrigue and kept me turning page after page. And of course, Katee Robert delivers on the spice with every novel. There was so much tension between Hades and Persephone and it was delicious. I also enjoyed seeing all of the politics of the Greek gods and their myths play out in a modern setting.

This series is going to focus on Demeter's four daughters, and I'm also excited for the next few novels retelling Greek myths that I am less familiar with! At this point I will read anything Katee Robert releases!

I did not expect this book. I didn't know that my reading life needed a book like this. I am very glad that I read this book and will be pushing it into the hands of romance readers for the entire summer!

I love a good spin on mythology, and especially if the myth is the story of Hades and Persephone like it is in Neon Gods.
This is a contemporary spin on Greek mythology, where the gods of Olympus are not gods at all but rather heads of their family. Turning this book more into a story about crime families. This particular book focuses on Persephone and Hades. Both of these characters were amazing. I liked how the story differed from the myth and had Persephone seek refuge from Hades instead of being kidnapped by him. Hades was absolutely swoon-worthy! Tough with a heart of gold!
Because of the mafia-esque atmosphere, this book had a lot of action. It also had a lot of sex, which should surprise anyone who has read Katee Roberts before. Though there was a lot, it made sense for the story and was handled well.
I enjoyed this book and canโ€™t wait to read the next books in this series.

This was the perfect read for the mood I was in when I finally started it (Massive TBR pile). A modern day, alternative universe re-telling of the Hades and Persephone

Persephone, one of the four daughters of Demeter, has a flashy it girl faรงade, to hide her true self from the toxic modern city of Olympus and it's slyly evil, wife murdering leader, Zeus. The minute she hits her majority she is planning to run away, her calculating mother puts paid to that plan when she surprises her by publicly announcing her engagement to Zeus. Desperate and on the run, she finds herself at the river Styx, entrance to the off limits undercity. She meets Hades, who she believed just a myth, and makes a devil's bargain. Keep her safe until she has the means to leave, and he can have some revenge on his nemesis Zeus. As they explore this dark bargain they have hatched, can they execute the plan without both getting burned.

This was such a great read, a dark and smouldering romance, with a touch of kink, but no toxic relationship dynamics, lots of sexy times, and two engaging and interesting leads. Looking forward to the next instalment very much.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book and all opinions are my own.
