Katee Robert had me at Hades & Persephone!
Though I feel like there is an abundance of retellings of my favourite Greek Gods, I was so excited to read this one - it was familiar but felt far more clever than ones I have read in a while. I haven’t enjoyed a retelling this much since SJM’s A Court of Mist and Fury!
This twist on my favourite forbidden couple was so thrilling and sexy and I am so in awe of this incredible world Katee has created. I am so keen for book 2!

So I fell in love with Hades and Katee Robert's writing back in the Wicked Villains series. I was so looking forward to this story. I love a good Hades and Persephone retelling and this one didn't disappoint. There was a decent level of steam in this book. The characters were well developed, Katee Robert is one of the few people that can make instalove type things seem believable.

I'm glad that this book is the first in a series and I can't wait to see who else gets a story!

I've long loved Hades and Persephone, but most retellings tend to be hit or miss for me. This, my friends, is a HIT. It was dark, sexy, and enthralling all the way through. I loved Persephone's strength of will and character, as I find retellings can often write her as helpless. In all honesty, this is probably the best written Persephone I've come across. She had drive, dreams, and flaws that all served to make her a well rounded character. Hades was broody and protective, but doting and sweet as well. I loved watching his frozen heart slowly thaw. Their chemistry was off the charts, and their love story a pleasure to read.

Aside from the main love story and spice, the plot in this book was surprisingly intricate and integral to the story. I loved Katee Robert's take on the Greek Gods–it very much reminded me of the tv show The Boys because, let's be honest, if the Gods were real they would be manipulative and power hungry. Additionally, I loved the side characters in this book. Hermes and Dionysus were hilarious additions to the cast and stole every scene they were in, and I genuinely loved Persephone's relationships with her sisters. Their interactions with each other were a highlight of the book. I hope in future books we see more of them or maybe even give each of them a book of their own.

Speaking of, there HAS to be another book. Or at least I hope so. There's still a couple things from Hades' past we never got clarity on. I really enjoyed these characters and would like to see them again even in the peripheral of a different story.

This was my first Katee Robert book, but it definitely won't be my last. The plot, the characters, and the spice were handled wonderfully, and I had a thoroughly good time.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Dark, delicious and so sinful, this retelling of Hades and Persephone is a perfect story to start a new series. I haven’t read many books by the author in the past but the ones that I’ve read, made me crave for more and Neón Gods didn’t disappoint at all. Strong and fearless heroine, dark and dangerous hero with a melting heart for everyone who he really cares about, they crash unexpectedly together into a love story full of suspenseful twists and steamy scenes , a well known mark of the author. I’m looking forward to the next books in this series and many more by a now favourite author for me.

Even if you aren't the most knowledgeable of greek mythology you can still read and love this book! I went for an ARC of this book because I am a big fan of retellings of any kind and I had seen a friend who also got the ARC and they had reviewed it very well which caught my attention. I loved this story from start to finish and was very happy to find that my expectations of what the characters would be like weren't 100% true. Persophone's strength and Hades's inner monologue of his falling love were very fun to read. Katee Robert managed to make me enjoy the switch of perspectives and the balance of plot, smut, and occasional fluff! Overall it was a great fast-paced book and is my favorite Hades and Persephone retelling of the handful of ones I have read. This was my first Katee Robert novel but it definitely won't be my last.

"You're attractive enough in a broody sort of way. Even if I'm not your type, I'm sure you can close your eyes and think of England or whatever it is the boogeyman does when he engages in carnal activities."- Katee Robert, Neon Gods
.
Out today! Thanks to @sourcebookscasa and @netgalley for my review copy. HOLY HOTNESS! 🔥🔥🔥. I knew going into it that it was steamy and it delivered! I don’t think it was overdone and there was a really interesting plot.
.
Persephone & Hades retelling anyone? I loved these two together. The BANTER! Persephone plays the perfect daughter in front of cameras and her mother, Demeter. After her surprised engagement to Zeus she decides to flee the city and finds her way to the under city. There she finds out that Hades is not just a myth and ends up being the person to help her. They come up with plan for her to not marry Zeus and they quickly develop a bond.
.
Hades has become a favorite book boyfriend. He tries to come off as someone who doesn’t care about anyone but he proves that he’s the most decent out of the The Thirteen who rule Olympus. He’s protective but sweet and caring. Ahhh. And Persephone was great throughout the book and together they were HOT HOT! Even when things are about to hot and heavy Hades always makes sure that she is doing ok and that she’s comfortable. I did feel like I was about to finish the book and there was still questions so I felt it wrapped up too quickly. So basically I wanted more of them still because they were so darn amazing together! I’m already waiting to see how other characters develop within the books.
.
Highly recommend this book if you love retellings, steam, protective cinnamon roll book boyfriend! Even if you don’t, give this book a try!

NEON GODS is the first instalment in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult DARK OLYMPUS erotic, romance series -a modern retelling about the gods of Olympus. This is Hades, god of the lower city, and Persephone Dimitriou, daughter of Demeter.

NOTE: NEOD GODS contains scenes of Dom/sub and voyeuristic sexual situations.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Hades and Persephone) NEON GODS follows the modern day romance between Hades, King of the lower city, and Persephone Dimitriou, daughter of Demeter. Persephone has effectively been sold by her mother to Zeus, the self-styled modern day King of Olympus, but Persephone wants nothing to do with Zeus, and crosses the river Styx where she is under the rule of Hades, himself. A bargain for three months of freedom finds Zeus falling for his beautiful prisoner, the woman with whom Hades will fall in love but as Zeus begins to threaten the people she loves, Persephone takes matters into her own hands, as she devises a plan to take down the powerful god. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Hades and Persephone, and the potential fall-out as Hades breaks the rules, and all will suffer the consequences.

NEON GODS introduces the gods of Olympus, the leaders of the Thirteen Houses who rule modern day Olympus and those who are willing to play along. A political power struggle begins to focus on the take down of the man at the top, a man who believes everyone and everything is his for the taking. We are introduced to Persephone’s sisters: Callisto, Psyche, and Eurydice, as well as their mother Demeter, Zeus, Hermes and Dionysus, and a large cast of gods and goddesses, who believe they are in control. A story about the political machine of a modern day Olympus, and the struggle for power and control. A different, engaging and entertaining take on the mythology of the gods.

I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.

I've heard a lot about this author from a couple of the podcasts that I listen to so I was excited to get the chance to read this new release. And not only that but it features stories around modern day Greek gods - which certainly peaks my interest. I thought the plot line was really interesting, especially with it being based on the various gods and their power struggles. The author did a good job of world building without making it overly complicated. I found it interesting that Amazon categorized this one as erotic fantasy - it was certainly steam but there was so much else going on in the book beyond the sex journey of the characters that I wouldn't necessarily agree on it being in the erotica category. While I found the plot interesting, there were a few pieces of it that didn't sit quite right with me. Specifically some pieces of the sexual evolution of the characters, it felt weird to have that as almost a sub plot while there was already so much else going on. And I thought it was weird that there was so much of the lore of Greek gods in there but no one expected that Hades and Persephone might end up together. That one I know I'm just reading too much into it but I couldn't get it to make sense to me. I liked the book a lot and would recommend it, but I think there was some potential for it to be better and it just fell a tad short in certain areas for me personally.

Update: I loved the audiobook! First time listens for narrator's: Zara Hampton-Brown and Alex Moorcock.

Wow! I think this is one of the best Hades and Persephone retellings out there that I have read! Honestly, they're dismal compared to Katee's story. The way how Hades and Persephone met, Katee had it so detailed I felt that I was there! I really also love this cover and it works for this series. I can't wait to see what happens next!

I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This book is scorching hot! The characters are amazing and the world-building so clever and well done. I loved the tension between Hades and Persephone and how even when they were bantering, you could tell they were hot for each other. If you're a fan of Greek mythology retelling with strong kick-ass heroines, this is the book for you.

As a person who read Lothaire on the middle seat of a plane, I thought I was pretty immune to embarrassment of reading a sexy book in a public space like that, but WOW, did Neon Gods test that theory. If you've been looking for a sexy af Hades x Persephone retelling, look no further than Neon Gods.

Persephone thinks Hades is a myth at the beginning of this book, which makes it sort of shocking when she runs away from Zeus's goons and runs right into Hades' arms. Hades' arms that keep picking her up and throwing her over his shoulder because she isn't taking care of herself. It turns out this book worked for me on basically every level as far as the romance is concerned, but here's some things for you to keep in mind about it:

- Hades is a dominant
- Persephone is a bit of a brat
- The two of them are fire together
- Hades is honestly such a cinnamon roll despite his reputation
- There IS public sex for reasons, but oh my God, the ROMANCE in this one section. I died.

The thing that didn't work for me is the world building. Y'all. I am still SO confused. And like, honestly, I don't care if I don't really understand how a world works because I figure I'll eventually figure it out. Only... I read this entire book and still do not understand the 13 or whatever. I don't get Olympus. I don't get how this is a contemporary but there's some sort of wall thing between Olympus and the Lower City. Honestly, just baffled all around regarding world building. But if you, like me, are mostly good at putting that to the side if the romance is good enough, I think this book is definitely worth a shot! You must be okay with explicit content though. That is definitely a must.

Oh! Also, bonus fact, there are puppies!!

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Sourcebooks for the opportunity to read and review this book.

A hotter-than-sin mythology retelling! Neon Gods is filled with drama, angst, romance, intrigue, and enough heat that it should light the pages of your book on fire. Persephone will win you from the first moment, with her innocence and love for her sisters, she's torn between her freedom and family obligations. She has the biggest heart and is the perfect person to challenge Hades.

Hades...dear sweet heavens, that man is the epitome of everything I want in a book boyfriend: tough as nails, a born leader, protective of those he cares about, but as gentle as a teddy bear when it counts. I've never been drawn into a world as deeply as this one, and I never wanted this story to end. Katee Robert is a magical storyteller and is a one-click author for me every time!

Neon Gods by Katee Robert is the best Hades and Persephone retelling I’ve ever read. I loved both characters equally and was rooting for them the entire time.

Persephone has been dreaming of the day when she can escape society life and the politicking of Olympus to live a life of freedom. When she is ambushed by a surprise engagement to Zeus, she flees the city and crosses the River Styx to Hades’ domain. Anything to escape the trapped life of a wife of Zeus.

I loved that Persephone was cunning, bold, and independent. I loved how caring, devoted, and good Hades was. They brought out the best in each other and their characters were able to grow and open up more with each other. Their chemistry was believable and it was hot! The sex was kinky, but there was always importance placed on it being consensual and consent could be withdrawn at any time and respected. It’s honestly so refreshing to read sex scenes with such care given.

I loved this book and I hope Robert plans on continuing with more Greek retellings because I will read them all!

Thank you NetGalley for sharing the digital review copy with me in exchange for my honest opinions.

If you love Hades and Persephone retelling. You need to read Neon Gods by Katee Robert! This is a modern retelling where Persephone escapes a marriage from Zeus and finds refuge and help of the god of death, Hades. It is sexy, steamy, emotional, so good! The fact that Persephone is a strong and smart girl that knows what she wants and isn’t shy of saying it or getting it, she’s no damsel in distress. She is an absolute goddess and the equal to hades. I love how hades is seen as evil and sinister and yet he’s absolute soft for Persephone, protective and would go on his knees for her and goes to the extra length for her. They are so perfect and I loved this book so much. 10/10. 5 stars for m

Readers, i loved this book🥰 y’all know I’m a total SIMP for Katee’s books, and while I knew I would enjoy this Hades & Persephone retelling, I had no idea how damn SOFT this book is!!! While it has some darker themes & some ~decidedly~ sexy scenes, the heart of this story is just sugary goodness💙 lol I may or may not have already put the audiobook on hold at my library…

there’s so much that i loved here— the opening scene in the throne room, Persephone’s relationship with her sisters, the exploration of lower Olympus, Hermes & Dionysus’ antics at Hades apartment, the VERY steamy sex scenes, Katee’s deft hand at balancing a sense of atmospheric foreboding with comedy & wit. But for me, what really sang in Neon Gods were (unsurprisingly) Hades & Persephone

HADES!!! Oh my gods, I’m obsessed💜 He has the toughest, darkest exterior hiding ooey goodness at the core!! I loved the way Katee slowly peeled back the layers to show just how much of a secret softie he is🙌🏻 Hades spends the entire book putting Persephone’s needs & desires first, often in a way that made him vulnerable. He was such a thoughtful, loving partner and we really need more heroes like him

And Persephone🌻 the sunshine to his grumpy, but with a delicious edge! I loved that while she was in an impossible situation, she was never helpless— very much the “I’m a damsel, I’m in distress, I can handle it” energy and it was amazing. She was driven, determined, and fiercely protective of the ones she loves (my kind of heroine!)

I’m so delighted that this book is out in the world today, go read it right now!!! Thank you so much to Netgalley and Sourcebooks for my advanced copy, and thanks to Katee for writing
another (literal) banger, your books are so special and we are unworthy😭💔❤️

I enjoyed the modern and erotic spin on the Greek myth of Hades and Persephone. This was always one of the Greek myths that I found most fascinating. I like this authors writing and will definitely be reading more of her books.

Big thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the eARC!

Yes, yes, YES.

This did EVERYTHING right that most hades & persephone retellings fall short on.

Persephone was so funny (and not whiny in the slightest, which usually always happens) and I loved her perspective. Hades was grumpy but soft, and yes I’m a little in love with him. (Also queer hades & persephone? Yes please and thank you)

I actually really loved the fresh take on the gods and how they were more ‘roles’ passed down a line, and the worldbuilding did exactly what it needed to do in my opinion, considering this is mostly a romance book.

There was a great ratio of romance to spice to plot, and I read this super quick. Such a fun read that I’d highly reccomended to everyone!

I thoroughly enjoyed this fun and gritty Hades/Persephone retelling. Katee Roberts always brings tons of spice but never for the sake of the plot.

Fun, very sexy re-telling of Persephone and Hades. It's a Katee Robert book so you you know the steam factor will be very high. The book also has a high degree of exhibitionism.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC
