What do you do when the last person you expected to see- needless to say one recently tried for the the murder of. your neighbors - is standing at your doorstep immediately after their release pending retrial? That is exactly what happened to Harper when Ruby (her ex-roommate) shows up unexpectedly. We follow Harper's discovery of who killed the Truett's. The once one quaint, picturesque gated community becomes a hot spot of jealousy, mistrust and mystery. Who can you really trust?

I had been recommended books by Megan Miranda by a friend, and was truly happy to receive an ARC of an upcoming release. I had never read any of her works previously, but I definitely will now. Miranda's writing style, her character development and plot line kept me enthralled the entire time. The twist at the end was one that I never saw coming. You won't regret this read!

This book did not hold my attention at all. The characters were non-descript and blended together. The plot was slow and I really didn't care what happened to the characters. The setting wasn't well described. Overall, not worth it.

Thank you so much to for my advanced copy of Such A Quiet Place by Megan Miranda.

I have read all of her books and was so excited to sit down with this one! I am a huge fan and was beyond excited to be approved for this advanced copy.

Living in Hollows Edge is everyone’s dream. A quiet neighbourhood with a community pool where your neighbours are more like family to you, bbq’s and get together’s is a daily occurrence. That is until a couple dies mysteriously by carbon monoxide poisoning. The community quickly checked all of their doorbell cameras and front porch cameras to see who was at fault for the tragic deaths of the neighbors. In this footage they see Ruby running a crossed some cameras and decide that she’s the guilty party.

Everyone turns on Ruby when she is found guilty of the murders of the couple next-door. However not everything is as is seems. Everyone you thought you knew and trusted completely is hiding something. Who can you trust and who has something against you? Will Harper figure it out in time? Will Ruby’s name be cleared?! Find out on July 13 when this thriller is released!

This was my first Megan Miranda book. This was also the first full novel I've read on my phone, so it was a different kind of reading experience than I'm used to. Overall, the story was enjoyable. But I think I would have preferred it as an audiobook.

The plot itself moved along fairly easily. It was a very easy read (other than the fact I was reading from a small screen!). I was instantly hooked from the beginning... it's a good 'start-from-the-middle' kind of story. Where you're inserted into the middle of the plot off the bat. Ruby is back. Who is Ruby and what did she do? Are questions that are eventually answered as you dive into the past (sans flashbacks) while the present continues.

I didn't really connect with the characters, nor did I find it very suspenseful. Even the ending felt a bit... abrupt. It was missing some things. But what WAS done was totally fine. Not every story has to be full of depth.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

I loved this novel, what a great mystery, suspense
Harper lives in a small hamlet called Hollow's Edge. A small cluster of houses and neighbors who are all close and look out for each other. They have a community page where everyone shares and keeps up to date on community events. They all trust one another and look out for each other, Or do they? Ruby shows back up at Harper's house after being released from jail for a murder she says she didn't commit. She is acting strange and the residents of Hollow's Edge decide to ensure their area is patrolled.
This was a great read, suspense filled novel,  it left me guessing until the end as to who the guilty parties were. Characters were introduced in a timely way, not all at once.
I would read more books by Megan Miranda for sure

Such a Quiet Place was a great suspense read! I was hooked from the beginning trying to piece together the story.
Hollows Wdge was a quiet neighborhood community until it was rocked with the murder of the Truett family. Seemingly safe when the culprit, Ruby is sent off to jail, the community is shattered again when less than two years later she is released and quickly moves back in with her roommate, Harper. As everyone struggles to put together the pieces of this murder, Harper races to put together the clues before it is too late.
Definitely recommended.

First Megan Miranda book and won't be my last!
Really nejoyed the writting style and premise of the private idyllic neighborhood of Hoolow's Edge rocked by murder among the community.

This was a really fun who dun it domestic thriller. Creepy vibes with intriguing characters which had me second gussing constantly. The relationship between Harper and Ruby was interesting begging the question; how well do you really know your best friend? And do you trust them?

I'm a fan and look forward to more by author.

Book Review
Such a Quiet Place by Megan Miranda

Thank you to @netgalley and @simonschusterca for my gifted copy in exchange for an honest review

Synopsis
We had no warning that she’d come back.
Hollow’s Edge used to be a quiet place. A private and idyllic neighborhood where neighbors dropped in on neighbors, celebrated graduation and holiday parties together, and looked out for one another. But then came the murder of Brandon and Fiona Truett. A year and a half later, Hollow’s Edge is simmering. The residents are trapped, unable to sell their homes, confronted daily by the empty Truett house, and suffocated by their trial testimonies that implicated one of their own. Ruby Fletcher. And now, Ruby’s back.
With her conviction overturned, Ruby waltzes right back to Hollow’s Edge, and into the home she once shared with Harper Nash. Harper, five years older, has always treated Ruby like a wayward younger sister. But now she’s terrified. What possible good could come of Ruby returning to the scene of the crime? And how can she possibly turn her away, when she knows Ruby has nowhere to go?
Within days, suspicion spreads like a virus across Hollow’s Edge. It’s increasingly clear that not everyone told the truth about the night of the Truett’s murders. And when Harper begins receiving threatening notes, she realizes she has to uncover the truth before someone else becomes the killer’s next victim.

Review
Honestly I was more then a bit confused by the writing style of this book. It took me awhile to wrap my head around what Megan Miranda was trying to do …using a third person point of view to illustrate Ruby.

I did not love Harper…… I found her wanting. She needed to be a little more direct, a little more decisive, a little more robust as a character. I will easily forget her and her part in the Hollows Edge drama.
The Hollows Edge community is driven by gossip and secrets. Who said what to whom and where. The ever watchful eye of the community has its gaze set on you…and inevitably someone in the chat will see you and immediately lay blame, relaying their findings to everyone. I was not a fan, been there, read that, over it.
Ruby is the star in the show. Ruby takes shit from no one. Ruby could care less what others think of her or what she may have done to the Truetts. Ruby is out for revenge… using gossip and secrets as her weapon to bring down Hollows edge. She is manipulative and conniving in all the best ways.

I wonder if I appreciate Ruby more based on how Harper and the others portrayed her…… its possible that Miranda’s writing style gives the reader more substantial insight into the complexity of Ruby’s character? Each person at Hollows Edge saw her differently, shining a spotlight on a variety of personality traits…. Hmmm. Food for thought.

Overall not my favourite from this author. I will still read her books in future but this one fell a bit flat to me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Such A Quiet Place - Megan Miranda (July 13, 2021)

Thank you @simonschusterca & @netgalley for the gifted copy in exchange of an honest review.

When Harper’s former roommate returns from prison after being acquitted of the murder of two neighbours, the entire community is on edge. If it wasn’t Ruby who killed the Truett’s, who did? And if it was Ruby, are they all in danger now?

🌊🌊🌊

The setting of this book was absolute perfection! I absolutely loved the little lakeside community, with a community pool, and I adored that Miranda included a map of the community, it definitely added to the book!

While I enjoyed the overall premise, I felt quite detached from all of the characters and it made it difficult to know them and therefore care about the story. I would have liked more suspense, and felt many parts of the book dragged.

🌊🌊🌊

Around the mid way point of the book I was more invested in the storyline, I would have loved to had some storyline from Ruby’s perspective whether present or past at some point throughout the book. I really enjoyed the ending as well, and didn’t see it coming! Such A Quiet Place has the perfect summer setting to cozy up with this summer at the beach!

This was my first @meganlmiranda read and will definitely not be my last. Hollow’s Edge is simmering a year and a half after the murder of the Truett’s when Ruby’s conviction gets overturned and she moves back into the community. Harper is terrified when Ruby comes back to live with her and is conflicted about whether Ruby is the true killer or not. Suspicion spreads, secrets are shared, nobody knows the full truth, and threatening notes are received. Harper realizes she needs to figure out what happened a year and a half ago before someone else ends up dead. I read this one in one day because I needed to know what happened. Definitely recommend.

And thanks @netgalley & @simonandschuster for the advanced read.

Thank you netgalley for the ARC of Such a Quiet Place. I am always so excited when Megan Miranda has a new book! I find them to be the perfect summer reads. Enter Hollow’s Edge a quiet peaceful community where you really can’t trust you neighbour. I really enjoyed the community board chats at the beginning of every chapter. This is a book that is going to keep you guessing and accusing everyone from page 1! I had fun with this one and did not guess the outcome at all.

I really enjoyed this book! I love when you just cant figure out what's happening until the very end. It's a bit of a slow burn but very well written.

Another great book by Megan Miranda! I love her writing style. This book had me guessing the ending right from the beginning, and I never guessed it right, it was full of surprises. Great read!

I enjoyed this tension-filled thriller. I was genuinely surprised by the twists as I can usually guess due to the number of thrillers I read. The narrator made for an excellent POV. Highly enjoyable and I would recommend!

I'm a pretty avid thriller reader and have come to the conclusion that I like my thrillers fast paced. This was the opposite. Quite a slow-burn. I definitely continued to read it but I wasn't particularly attached to the characters or story. I thought the reveal was under-whelming and while I think it is possible to suspend belief in order to reach an effective conclusion - I just didn't buy in to the ending or the motives behind the story.

The groupthink phenomenon at play here was definitely unsettling and added to the suspense of the novel so points to that. This is my second novel by Megan Miranda (The Girl from Widow Hills being the first) and I felt ambivalent about that one as well.

Likely just a case of it's not you, it's me.

I love crime/suspense fiction and I really enjoyed this one from Megan Miranda. It was the 4th book I read from this author and I love her writing and how she brings pieces of evidences gradually. It's a good read!

A great beach read! Megan Miranda offers another suspenseful page-turner in which a small, idyllic neighbourhood is shook up by the return of Ruby who, 14 months prior, was arrested for the murders of the next door couple. She shows up, unexpectedly, at Harper’s doorstep and resumes her life as her roommate, leaving all wondering what her intentions may be and if their quiet existence may be endangered. With twists and turns along the way, and an unexpected ending, Megan Miranda delivers another satisfying read.

“Do any of us ever see each other here for what we truly are?”

How well do you know your neighbours? How would you feel if a convicted killer returned to live in your neighbourhood as if nothing had ever happened?

Known for her smart, twisty thrillers, Megan Miranda’s ‘Such A Quiet Place,’ is a murder mystery set in an idyllic and close-knit neighbourhood. To a visitor, Hollow’s Edge seems like such a beautiful spot on the edge of a picturesque lake. A little digging, however, will reveal that it’s really a toxic neighbourhood. In an attempt to become something bigger than themselves, they succumbed to their love of true crime, gossip and voyeurism.

Brandon and Fiona Truett were murdered while sleeping and their dog-walker, Ruby, served time for the murder. As this story opens, Ruby returns to Hollow’s Edge and back to live with her friend, Harper. You can imagine the gossip when a convicted killer returns. It won’t only be Hollow’s Edge that’s gripped by paranoia. You, too, will start to question what really went down that fateful night. Is it going to happen again? Was Ruby wrongfully convicted? Are the neighbours hiding something? Who is next?

You’ll love how the author introduces the neighbours’ voices through the group discussion board online. Being a character-driven story, the focus is on the secret lives of the ordinary residents on the block.

A quick, easy, beach read with enough suspense to keep you flipping pages, Miranda explores mob mentality and the wake of destruction it leaves.

“We became the very thing we feared.”

Thanks to NetGalley, Simon and Schuster, and the author Megan Miranda for this ARC copy of Such a Quiet Place.

This book was very well written, easy to read and follow and had very good atmosphere that I felt I could really imagine the neighbourhood. The characters were well developed, and the story was well detailed. Unfortunately I am giving this book 2/5 stars, it just wasn’t the book for me, it didn’t quite keep my attention. I am sure others will enjoy this book it just isn’t my style, I thought it would be more of a thriller and I just wasn’t in love with the way it ended. I love the cover of the book, I am always drawn to a really nice cover and this one definitely grabbed my attention. Despite this book not being for me, the author is definitely very well written and I will definitely try more of her books in the future.

Brief Synopsis:
Hollow’s Edge was a quiet and picture perfect town. Everyone knew each other and looked out for one another. Until a couple is found murdered in their house. Trial testimonies from everyone showed fingers pointing to one of their own, Ruby Fletcher. A year and a half later and Ruby is let out early and she’s coming back to Hollow’s Edge. Does she truly have no where else to go or is she back looking for revenge?

My thoughts/opinions:

I have only read one other Megan Miranda book but I hear she has some good ones out there! I’m going to be honest & say this one was just ‘good’. Unfortunately, it didn’t amaze me but it wasn’t dull either. There were definitely suspenseful moments & you really wanted to figure out how it was all going to tie together. The author made you suspicious of everyone, which I loved!
It was a bit of a slow burn & the characters were decently likeable. I didn’t truly love anyone or relate to them though. However, I would say it’s a good quick thriller to read while camping or at the beach maybe?!

Thank you to Simon & Schuster, Net Gallery and the author for an advanced copy to review.
3.5/5 (or slightly higher…just not quite 4 for me!)
