A quiet neighborhood is turned upside down when two neighbors are found murdered. From there the story starts to take off in a mystery who done it where the MC Ruby needs to find out the truth before the murderer strikes again. As a Megan Miranda fan I was a little underwhelmed by Such a Quiet Place. I found myself skimming a lot and not quite gripped by the story or characters like I have been with her other books.

Thank you to #netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Oh how my eyes rolled at the beginning of "Such a Quiet Place." The foundation of the story is so flimsy and unbelievable that I at first couldn’t help but be annoyed by everything and everyone in the book. But Megan Miranda turned it around, and the novel ends up being an above average thriller.

The silliness comes in right off the bat when Ruby, a convicted murderer whose sentence is overturned on a technicality, waltzes back into the neighborhood of Hollow’s Edge and into the home of her former roommate, Harper, after only serving 14 months in prison. Harper is stunned by Ruby’s appearance and doesn’t want her living in her house, yet she won’t tell Ruby to leave.

What annoys me about this is that Harper acts like she has no choice but to allow Ruby to stay. Throughout her inner dialogue, Harper reiterates the futility of denying Ruby access to the house when, in reality, all she has to do is tell her no. It’s not an impossible feat, and it’s not even all that difficult to do. Harper is the homeowner; Ruby is not.

Once you make it past the initial bumps of the plot, however, you’re rewarded with a propulsive tale of murder and neighborhood secrets. There are twists and red herrings aplenty, and I never felt like I had a good grasp of where the story was headed.

Not a bad first outing with Megan Miranda. I’ll read more of her thrillers for sure.

My sincerest appreciation to Megan Miranda, Simon & Schuster/ Marysue Rucci Books, and NetGalley for the digital review copy. All opinions included herein are my own.

This author is such a hit or miss for me. Unfortunately, this one was not my favorite. I thought the ending was just anticlimactic. I didn't really connect with any of the characters and found it hard to want to pick it up.

When the neighborhood is rocked by the return of a killer to their quiet place, the story will show how one evening, one young woman and the neighborhood's decision to keep her out will bring their lives into question. Did this group of "good" people decide to expel a family and set up one of their own for the blame? The book builds tension in layers, leaving readers unable to break away for fear of missing a clue.

This starts as a slow burn as in a flame that's riding down the wick that's leading to dynamite. As always great care is taken with the characters. You will know these people and it most definitely pays off in the second act with the big event.

I will always recommend this author and I am so glad that a friend did the same for me.

Enjoyable, Unpredictable read that will leave you guessing who is really a "good" person. That sometimes people just put on "faces".

I have always loved Megan Miranda's books. I think he is a very good author of a "Who Done It" mystery thriller. I have read all of Megans adult works and this one is in the top favorite reads of hers.

Even when you know someone for; what seems like your whole life, do you truly Even KNOW them? What if they were accused of something horrific , would you put your beliefs with the accused it the people of the town?

I typically really enjoy Megan Miranda’s books, but this one was so boring. I could connect with the characters at all. Ruby was awful and I do not understand why Harper put up with her, I

Miranda is basically an aut0-buy for me, and I thought this one lived up to my expectations. Her plotting is always taut, and her writing and characters are always sharp. This one was creepy and suspenseful, and I imagine that anyone who has liked her prior books will love this one too.

I have loved a number of Megan Miranda's books, but, Such a Quiet Place was not the book for me. I hope her next is a better fit.

Such a Quiet Place was a slow start that hurt the book momentum. It was hard to get past just a few pages at a time for the first half. It definitely picks up after a certain party event but it almost felt like I hadn't built empathy with the characters so it felt a bit too little too late. This one was ok- just fine but not great for me.

Solid 3.5 rounded up for superb "small town secrets"/Keeping Up With the Joneses vibes. Megan Miranda always nails setting and complex character dynamics, alongside propulsive page-turners. This is no exception. That said, there were some aspects of how it all came together that I found mildly disappointing.

So, seriously, the vibes. A tight-knit subdivision in a college town, where everybody knows everybody's secrets and the neighborhood forum is alive with gossip and speculation. A grisly murder two years ago that one of their own went to prison for. But now her conviction's been overturned and she's BACK... and shit's about to go down.

First, I found the subversion of the genre trope refreshing. Typically the book we'd read in this setting would be all the backstory--the murder, the neighbors piecing it together, catching the killer among them! But this kicks off 14 months later, and they have to go back over how everything went down... and whether or not they think Ruby was let off on a technicality. The tension is immediate and juicy: Ruby simply waltzes into Harper's home and settles back in like they're still roommates. They never discuss what went down. It's eerie. There's complex history amongst neighbors, and I was invested. How everything with down with Harper's ex-Aidan made me hopping mad, as did how they treat her once Ruby's back... really everything about Ruby is infuriating, in the best way.

There are some shocking, big moments and just really lovely "small town secrets"-esque vibes, but then the ending left me... confused? (full spoilers on Goodreads review)

So not an all-time fave, but a solid read and time I enjoyed!

Thanks to Netgalley, Simon & Schuster and Megan Miranda for this ARC. I read this book a while ago, but just realized I never did my feedback. ( sorry, I’m slowly catching up ) I love all books Megan Miranda and this one was no exception, I intend to read it again, actually , something I rarely do unless it’s a series I need to catch up on. A murder occurs and who did it ? Was it Ruby ? Her conviction was overturned so she returns to Hollows Edge to find the real killer before someone else is killed.. always a thrill ride with this author.. 5 stars .

I have always, and will always love the domestic thrillers Megan Miranda writes. This author just knows how to balance the characters, mystery, and twists so perfectly.

A great story that creates a lot of mystery and intrigue. I felt an impending sense of dread as the story built and the the unraveling of the truth behind the “murders” of the Truitts. The story kept me guessing until the end.

I love any kind of thriller. I have loved all of Megan Miranda’s books and this one was no different. Such a good plot and character development.

Megan Miranda can do no wrong, honestly. I'm not a big thriller gal, but I'll devour anything Megan Miranda writes, and I'll do it gleefully. More than just a thriller, it's about friendship and love -- and what you would do to keep those things in your life.

Such a Quiet Place was a decent story but a bit too much of a slow burn and almost too descriptive. However, I thought the mystery of the book all came together nicely at the end.

Such a Quiet Place is about a murder in a seemingly perfect neighborhood. Megan Miranda is one of my go-to thriller authors and this one did not disappoint!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Ruby Fletcher returns to Hollow's Edge after being released from prison 14 months after being convicted of the double murder of 2 neighbors when her conviction is overturned; much to the surprise of her other neighbors. The reason for her return - "to make her neighbors pay" for what they did to her.
I enjoyed the linear nature and pace of the story - it kept me watching all the neighbors for what would happen next.
