While the premise of the book was promising, the execution left much to be desired. There were many inconsistencies within the plot and the overall character development was lacking.

The accused Ruby returns to town after the trial is thrown out. So, fourteen months after being arrested for killing the neighbors by gas asphyxiation, Ruby walks right into Harper’s home almost like she never left. Harper doesn’t know what to think or how to handle the situation. There’s a neighborhood meeting called, Ruby wasn’t invited, and it’s a reminder to watch for anything or anyone that doesn’t belong. Basically, Ruby. The situation twists and becomes something no one expects. Megan Miranda weaves another mystery worth reading, 5 stars!

Hollow’s Edge was a nice neighborhood, until a murder occurred. Ruby was convicted of killing her neighbors, but her conviction was overturned. Much to the residents of Hollow’s Edge surprise, Ruby returned after her release. She moved back in with her roommate, Harper. Harper is as surprised as everyone else. As suspicions and lies keep all of the neighbors on edge, Harper tries to discover what really happened the night her neighbors died.

Such a Quiet Place is told through Harper point of view. She recalls events that led to Ruby’s conviction, plus the current happenings in the neighborhood. Harper is worried about having Ruby in the house, and most of the neighbors are not happy about Ruby being back. There are a lot of characters, and it seems most people are not entirely truthful.

One my favorite tropes in books is an idyllic neighborhood. So, of course, Such a Quiet Place piqued my interest. I usually find Megan Miranda’s novels to be intriguing reads, and Such a Quiet Place did not disappoint. A slow burning thriller for readers who enjoy female protagonists and neighborhood drama.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was super excited for this book! I've only read one other of Megan Miranda's books and I enjoyed it. I felt pretty much the same about this one. It was a good neighborhood thriller that had a twist ending that I didn't see coming but I didn't feel attached to any of the characters and I kind of was just like "yup, ok" whenever something shocking happened.

Usually I like Megan Miranda's books but this one didn't hit the mark for me. I couldn't get into the story and didn't much like the characters even though I thought the premise would be interesting.

This is a story about the secrets in the silence.

don’t always enjoy domestic thrillers, but this was perfectly balanced with external motivations & character movement. I love stories that peel back the veneer of gentility & composure to look at the darker elements of communities!

Thank you so much Netgalley & Simon & Schuster for the eArc!

Such a Quiet Place

I was really looking forward to this release. Miranda's books are usually quite the pull for me and a fast read besides. Unfortunately, this one did not seem as good to me as her others.
Thanks to Simon & Schuster for the ARC.
The beginning of the book showed lots of promise but I was not satisfied with the second half and conclusion.

Spoken with quiet authority. Harper Nash let’s us into the cloistered world of Hollow’s Edge. We are lulled much like the residents into believing all is well. Until Ruby Fletcher is released into our midsts once again. We the audience flip flop as Harper does as she and the other natives try to piece together the events that led to the deaths of Brandon and Fiona Truett . As pieces fall into place under Ruby’s vengeful eye ,the picture clears to an end I did not expect but gleefully embraced. Happy reading

I loved the idea of this book, but the execution of the storyline fell flat for me. The idea of someone being released from jail to be given the chance to return to the scene of the crime brings with it a load of drama I love in books - uncomfortable and unique. However, I struggled with connecting to the story because I did not like a single character in "Such a Quiet Place". So much so, I didn't care how the story ended, I just wanted it to. I liked it enough to push through, not to mention, I'm a fan of Miranda's but this one just didn't hit the mark for me.

Love everything Megan Miranda puts out and this book did not disappoint. Such a Quiet Place is a wonderfully thrilling tale of a close-knit neighborhood and what happens when neighbors keep secrets. Loved the map and all of the details about the neighborhood itself. The lies and secrets among the neighbors was wonderful and it kept me guessing until the very end!

I found this book to be less of a thriller and more of a mystery. I found it to be a slow read and the ending confused me. I am still a megan miranda fan but this was not my favorite of hers

Megan Miranda is the queen of a slow-burning mystery. She excels in bringing you into her world, completely investing you in the characters, and then absolutely bludgeoning you over the head with her reveal.

When Ruby Fletcher returns to Hollow's Edge after being released from prison when her conviction for murder is overturned, the entire neighborhood spirals into suspicion. What does Ruby know? Why has she come back? What could she possibly want after ruining the lives of the entire neighborhood and murdering two of their neighbors?

Haper Nash, Ruby's former roommate and the only member of Hollow's Edge to testify in her defense finds herself wondering as well. She never quite believed that Ruby was actually guilty. But as her behavior after her release becomes more erratic, Harper is forced to wonder if she knows Ruby, or her motivations for returning, at all. As she begins receiving threatening notes, she realizes that Harper may not be the most dangerous person in Hollow's Edge after all, and if she can't find the source of the threats, she may just be the next one to die.

Special thanks to NetGalley and to Simon & Schuster for providing a free copy of this title in return for an honest review.

This book was…. Ok

I love mysteries with a big cast of characters because it SHOULD leave you jumping from suspect to suspect as the book makes its way to the big reveal.

This one missed the mark some. It started with intrigue but about halfway I found myself not really caring about any of the characters or even the “truth”. And the reveal was kind of… meh.

Thanks netgalley for the eARC!

Who did it? Who did it? Who did it? Who killed the Truetts in the Hollow’s Edge neighborhood?

Ruby Fletcher was convicted of the murders but her conviction was overturned on a technicality after serving 14 months in prison. She returned to the house she shared with Harper Nash. Why would she return to the neighbors that convicted her based on their evidence and statements? To prove her innocence? Was she innocent?

The story was a slow buildup whodunit that had me questioning each character (the neighbors of Hollow Edge) and their possible involvement in the murders of Mr. & Mrs. Truett. Oh such a picturesque neighborhood that borders a lake and surrounded by trees. And such a quiet place too. Sounds nice doesn’t it? Except there is more than meets the eyes at Hollow’s Edge!

Thank you to #NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for my complimentary advanced digital copy of #SuchAQuietPlace. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was such a letdown. I kept thinking it just had to get better, and then it was over and no such luck.

This is a typical neighborhood drama gone “thriller”, though none of it was very thrilling. The characters were all pretty one demential and self entitled.

While the writing itself was solid, the plot and ending were just boring. Overdone who-done-it story.

It was okay. I didn't read it right away because I was burnt out on domestic thrillers the. I realized it was a little more of a whodunnit so I gave it a chance, but I just wasn't that impressed. The writing seemed mundane, I figured out the original crime right away, I wasn't feeling like "anyone of these people could have done it" I do think it was a pretty accurate interpretation of a community system but just fairly uninspired.

Thank you Simon Audio for the gifted audiobook.

I loved the last two Megan Miranda books I have read, but this one missed the mark for me. This one felt much less thrillery than her other books or even how this one was marketed. It is more of a slow burn mystery. Maybe if I had gone in expecting more drama and less heart racing, I would have had different feelings about it. I did like how entranced I was in the setting. I could totally place myself inside the neighborhood, inside these houses, and inside these social relationships. The characters were multi-faceted and dynamic. The mystery is compelling and revealed in the perfect little crumb droppings. Writing this review makes me appreciate the writing so much more than how I experienced it. Publishers have to stop saying things are thrillers when they are not.

Content Warning: Murder

Genuinely creepy thriller?
Insular community?
Unreliable narrator?!

Only three of my favourite tropes... sign me the hell up.

14 months after being sent to prison for the murder of two of her neighbours in a sleepy lakeside community, Ruby Fletcher returns to the neighbourhood. What does she want? Is she after revenge for the people who testified against her, or does she want something deeper than that?

The writing of this story is so clever. As a reader, you have a couple of smug moments where you've seen a twist coming for a few chapters, and then WHAM, you're hit with the whiplash of a new one that completely and utterly changes things.

I'd decided to give this 5 stars by about halfway through, and spent the rest of the book desperately hoping that the ending wouldn't let it down. And I'm glad to say, it did not.

Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a dark and creepy thriller read!

This was a well-paced thriller, entertaining from beginning to end. I only wish it could have gone deeper into it’s themes and we’d gotten to know more of the characters in the neighborhood. Then the plot would have felt more impactful. It was still an easy and fun thriller.
