“Outrageous” is the second book in the Rebels of the Ton series by Minerva Spencer.

This book features Eva de Courtney and the Godric Fleming. Eva is my spirit animal. Yas, Girl! Godric, similarly, is cynical but clever as well.

These two! I have how spirited Eva is and how much she was able to get under Godric’s skin. He thinks all he is doing is the right think but in actuality he is just following his hear.

I loved this story and can’t wait to read the rest of this series! Minerva Spencer knows how to do historical romance right.

I've read book one but I have to admit the plot didn't stick with me because I don't remember Visel and what made him evil. Something about plotting to kidnap Eva's best friend. In this book Eva kidnaps him to make him stop harassing her brother. (The best friend and brother were forced to marry in book one.) Now, since Eva has been compromised by being alone with Visel during the kidnapping, he insists they marry. What follows is a road trip to the Scottish border involving two unlikable people. I couldn't bring myself to appreciate either character. Eva at a childish 19 is two decades younger than the dissolute Visel which didn't help. Maybe if I had re-read book one I would have enjoyed it more?

This was a fun story with witty banter. The characters had great chemistry and the plot was propulsive. Minerva Spencer is writes such fun and romantic stories.

I love this book! It will definitely be added to my reread pile! The chemistry between Eva and Godric is intense and the dialogue was great! I love that Eva is getting her own story. A must read!!

After reading Notorious, Eva was by far my favorite character. I was beyond excited to read a book where she is the lead, and I was not disappointed. The chemistry between her and Godric is palpable and the trouble they got into the road made it such an entertaining read.

LOVE Minerva Spencer books and this one hits it out of the park! I started reading Notorious and have been hooked in this series ever since. Eva is not your typical regency romance novel protagonist- she's loud, she's lively, and she does whatever she wants. She's so loyal to her friends and family that she jumps in head first to save them from her brother's dastardly rival herself. Shockingly, things don't go according to plan and it turns out that maybe there is a heart underneath Godric's scheming ways.

This was a fun read and the series is a must have for a light-hearted romance full of thrilling plot twists and happy endings. 9/10- would recommend!

I absolutely loved the premise of this book! The heroine kidnapping an earl. SIGN ME UP! I love historical romances for the fact that it has strong heroines. I love how women push the boundaries and are unapologetic for it. This felt like a more modern take on historical romances.

I picked this book up once and never ended up finishing it. I did like the writing style but I was not in the mood for this story. If I ever end up picking it up again, I will edit my review. I heard really great things about it like the banter. I think I need to read this series in order.

I was looking forward to reading this book but I found the story to be disappointing. I found the idea of Eva kidnapping Godric to be ridiculous. This was so over the top that I couldn't take the book seriously.

I definitely enjoyed the fast pace of the action and the book kept me engaged. Unfortunately some of the kidnapping plot became confusing. Eva is a lovely character and quite brave for a young woman of her time. I enjoyed it, but due to some of the confusion I wouldn't consider it a top patron recommendation in the genre.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in return for an honest review. I was not a fan of this book, but the covers are beautiful!

I enjoyed the banter between characters in this romance. All the misshapes that happened sometimes we're a little over the top but still okay. It seems the author was trying for soy whimsy but she just doesn't know how to write it yet e.g. Dare or MacLean.

Outrageous is the second book in the Rebels of the Ton series by Minerva Spencer. I was absolutely salivating at the thought of reading Eva's story. I mean, that girl is cray-cray, spitfire level a thousand in Notorious and I loved every second of it. But, ya'll, I really struggled with this book.

At the end of Notorious, we are left with the teaser that Eva has captured the evil Godric and was traveling to Gretna Green with him. Outrageous opens with that last night of on-page action between Godric and Eva. Eva and her trusty manservant extraordinaire have bonked Lord Visel over the head, hogtied him, and are whisking him off to Gretna Green, Lord Visel has been suffering from a not too well-explained war hysteria fugue state sort of thingy but he had just come out of the I'm a super crazy lunatic fog when he was bonked on the noggin. The forced proximity troupe, which is one of my favs, ensues.

I had a really hard time finishing this book. I HATED Godric for the vast majority of the book. He alternated between treating her like a child, putting her down, and being a gigantic bully. Eva is such a spirited spitfire, that it hurt to see her dismissed, belittled, and ignored. Yes, she may have been a bit impulsive and didn't think things through, way a bit spoiled, but what do you really expect from a 19-20 years old sheltered girl-woman? I also had a problem that Godric often treated her and thought of her as a child or being childish but then saw her feminine curves and wanted to do the bedroom things with her. (Gross.) And somehow, I'm supposed to believe that despite being treated horribly that her nethers and her silly female brain fell in love with the man who treated her this way?!? I'm sorry, I know I am a salty old (not really) broad that values when a partner actually treats their respective other with, at the very least, respect.

The adventure, the inns, the robbers, the coach incidents, the drama, the realizations were good. I did enjoy the story overall, but everything was quite a bit tainted by Godric and my want to kick his testicles up through his nose multiple times.

There were some oppressive attitudes towards females in Notorious but I'm blaming that on Gabe being brought up in a vastly different area of the world that still holds some of those values today. Plus, you know, women weren't anything but property back then and couldn't vote or own land or even have an actual bank account without a man authorizing it first or holding the account. So, I am going to chalk Outrageous up to being a fluke. I am still invested in the series and I do see that Infamous is soon to be released.

Maybe 3.5 stars

In an effort to save her brother and sister-in-law from torment a the hands of Godric Fleming, the Earl of Visel, Lady Eva de Courtney hatches a plan, she will kidnap the earl and whisk him to Scotland, leave him there, giving Gabriel and Dru time to get out of London. She is sure she has everything under control and her plan will go off without a hitch, too bad she didn’t anticipate her reaction to Godric!

World-weary and heavy-hearted, Godric has come to realize the error of his ways, but before he can make amends, he is kidnapped by Eva. It doesn’t take long for Godric to turn the tables on Eva and take charge. He demands that they marry, despite having no desire to wed or have children, but to his surprise, Eva refuses, leaving him even more determined to do the right thing.

This was a good story, but the constant age-gap reminders and Eva’s childish behavior got tiresome. The age difference didn’t bother me, it was not uncommon for the man to be much older than the woman in this era, but Godric calling her an infant and a child over and over and her immaturity, did lend a creep factor to their physical attraction. I also found Godric’s personality about-face to be a bit unbelievable – if you read the previous book, you know he was the villain and deserved that title. But on the plus side, the book did have some exceptionally good witty banter, the angst was not overwhelming, and the love scenes were steamy, so while I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped, I did like it better than the previous book. This is the second book in the series but could be read as a standalone title, but to really understand the backstory I would recommend reading the books in order.
