I’d like to thank Hera Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Housewife’ by Alex Kane in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Terry Reid is the head of Glasgow’s most notorious gangsters. When he meets Annie there’s an instant attraction but she’s keeping secrets that Terry knows nothing about. Leah is mum to ten-year-old Samuel and loving wife to Thomas but events in her past are catching up with her putting at risk her life and those of her family. As these three characters meet head-on there can only be disaster.

‘The Housewife’ is a gritty and compelling thriller featuring the Reid gang and the inhabitants of the Mainhill Estate, the most run-down and undesirable area of Glasgow. From the start there’s crime that’s gruesome and bloodthirsty, drama, suspense and intrigue, but it’s the ending that I found most surprising and completely amazed me with the turn of events. This is a thoroughly enjoyable thriller, the first I’ve read by this author, that I can definitely recommend.

Very sorry to say I couldn't get into this book and had to give up reading 20 something percent in.
This book has so many great reviews that I guess the fact that I gave up is due to a wrong choice I made in requesting it and false expectations I got reading the blurb.
I love psychological thriller, but I didn't expect to be immersed in "gangland scenario", surrounded by thugs, lowlives, drug dealers and users. That was not for me at all.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

It was my first book by Kane and definitely not the last...
This is a "gangland "thriller set in a Mainland Glasgow.. where Reid is the king and anyone who tries to mess with him or his business will never see the light of day....
Maisie the young 16 year old daughter of heroine addict parents got pregnant and was afraid for her child..
Annie Wicks end up in a bar where she met the life she didn't know and was exciting for it..
Leah Martin a perfect mother and Housewife spill some of her secrets to her friends about the robbery she did a long time ago..
With lots of characters and lots of twist the book is engaging and interesting...
I love the fact how every character is connected in some way...

This is a fabulous crime thriller story that involves three main characters as well as a handful of secondary ones. The story revolves around the gangland scene in an area in Glasgow. An area where drugs are rife and lives are not lived, people just exist.

The author has woven such a brilliant story that focuses on Leah, a mother who has a secret that she is desperate to keep hidden from her son and husband. Annie has stepped away from her life and into that of the girlfriend of gangland crime boss Terry. Terry is the third main character, the boss who is not averse to breaking the law to maintain control of his area.

This is such an addictive read as I was drawn further into the three storylines. Throughout the story, I was taken into the murk and grime of an inner-city housing estate. The author built a picture of deprivation and drug addiction. There is one however who has seen what drugs do and steers clear of using and wants a better life.

Using to of the characters, the author has injected a secretive edge, it is one that kept me so intrigued as I desperately wanted to work out the connection. When that was eventually dropped I was shocked. Definitely a "I never saw that coming" moment.

I really enjoyed how quickly I was taken into the lives and the story. It is gritty as I was taken into the drug world from both the user and the dealer. As well as those who are involved through association. The stories are brilliantly worked and had a tense3 filled edge to them. A fabulous story from start to finish and it is one for those who love their crime thrillers on the dark and gritty side. I would definitely recommend it.

Can a sordid past ruin a perfectly good present? The answer is yes, according to this excellent crime thriller. The sins of the past definitely come to haunt the protagonist...

A classic ‘gangland’ tale, I have never read any of the authors previous books so was unsure as to what to expect but wasn’t disappointed
Set in the fictional Mainshill Estate in Glasgow this is a story that started fast and kept you in the thick of the action all the way through
The characters were for me easy to visualise and so the film in my head of the book never stopped as I was taken page by page into a world of crime, families, drugs, poverty and desperation.....alongside this runs another story of revenge and the past catching you up and it all ties in together making for a tense and dramatic ending
If you love this genre you will devour this book as quick as you can and if you haven’t read any ‘gangland’ before this is a great book to get you started

Talk about not knowing what is coming around the bend of a book? That's what happened in this suspense filled book by Alex Kane. The Whiteclaw family, a family of druggies living among the lost with no way out except for drugs. Sister Maisie a sixteen year old drug addict having a baby with a man who cares for no one but himself and the next fix.. Maisie lives a life of doom even if her brother Lee tries to help her for the better. Then there is Annie Wicks running from and old life and right into the arms of gangster Terry Reid. The life she enters is one of surprise, and wonderment. Author Alex Kane writes a story that grabs you and doesn't let you go until the end. An end you do not see coming.. I couldn't put it down, I needed to know what happened to these characters. Which truly surprised me. The story of love, betrayal, survival and murder will keep you transfixed and guessing. Thank your Alex Kane and Hera Books for a great read. Would highly recommend it to all. I do not give five star ratings, but for this one I will.

This book deserves a lot more than 5 stars.... I was gripped from the start and really didn’t want this book to end. If you enjoy gangland and psychological thrillers then this book is for you. Alex kane this is one of my favourite books and your stories just get better and better. This book is so fast pasted and gritty I really struggled to put it down... even though I didn’t want it to end... can’t wait for your next book. Your characters come alive in my head and I just wanted to know what was coming next.

Terry Reid and his right hand man Richie Jackson dabble in all things wrong; drugs, money lending amongst others. A story about Terry and his menace which creates havoc in the lives of Kora, Annie, Leah and Maisie. But one woman is harbouring secrets that would put her life alongwith the lives of her husband and child in danger.
A gritty, gripping story.

Thank you Netgalley and Hera books for the ARC

What a fantastic book! 😱

Such an intense, fast paced read from the first page right the way through to the last. I got so lost in this book I felt as though I was caught up amidst the gangland watching the story play out rather than reading about it. A great selection of characters who were so very believable.

This is the first book I've read by Alex Kane and honestly, I can't wait to read more!

What can I say apart from wow 🤩. First book I have read by this author and I was totally enthralled and hooked from page one - it was fast moving, gritty and I just raced through it - so much so I am disappointed and wondering what I could possibly read next. I do not like to give the story away as the synopsis is sufficient but just to say loved the way in which the characters were woven together and how you were kept in suspense right through and I had no idea it would end as it did!! Highly recommended for a gripping read! (In fact my husband is going to read it now).
