The present is in peril.

The Human race has changed. Evolved. Many people now possess powers including telepathy, telekinesis, and of course time travel. And not everyone is happy with the way history turned out. That's where Time Weavers' Inc. comes in.. their mission: To preserve the present. But they're up against those who want to sow chaos or manipulate events to suit their own needs. These Disrupters, as they're known, will do anything to advance their plans. Which means that TWI has to do the same.

Enter Katz Almira. A natural thief, she's one of the best agents TWI has. Even better, she's not the type to let anyone get close... a definite perk when having to travel to the past. But this time, the case hits close to home. When she's dispatched to 1815 to prevent Napoleon from winning the Battle of Waterloo, she's thrust into the heart of a pickpocket gang run by a disabled former soldier, Lord John Byron. No, not that one. But this one is almost as dashing, although not nearly as poetic. Katz finds herself coming to care for her fellow pickpockets -- a motley crew of boys from a varied backgrounds -- and worse falling for the handsome lord.

Can Katz save the future when her heart is becoming inexorably attached to the past?

--
This is the second book in the Time Weavers series and you do not need to read the first book to understand what's going on, although I'm certain it would add to the enjoyment. Firmly set on the sci-fi spectrum of time-travel romance, this story uses both mutation and quantum physics to explain how the universe works. And it's interesting how they're handling the various alternate universes and the repercussions of changing the past. This is not a Peggy-Sue got married type of time travel.

I enjoyed the characters. While at times Katz, our heroine, seemed a little closed off, it made sense in the characterization. She shied away from her own past which meant that we, as readers, were given her history in drips and drabs -- sparing us from both navel-gazing or infodump. She's competent, but not infallible. And she's both hard and soft in the way that only someone who has suffered a lot of childhood trauma can be.

I really liked John, our hero. While he was very rooted in the social mores of his age, he wasn't insufferable. I didn't mind his over-protectiveness towards the heroine because it also extended to the pickpockets in his care. His disability was plot relevant and wasn't ever forgotten and even better, it wasn't magically cured, which as someone who has a disability caused by an injury it was good to see. Both the hero and heroine suffer from PTSD and it does manifest in the story. It's handled well, and I appreciate the inclusion.

The pickpocket gang were for the most part well developed although at least one of them could have been cut entirely with very few repercussions. Pip, Hum, and Covey were my faves and they were definitely the most utilized. The other members of TWI were referenced frequently which helped ground the story and keep the series connected. I don't know who the next book is going to feature, but I am really looking forward to reading about Mouse.

The plot was tight and well woven through the romance. I was kept guessing just like the characters as to who the antagonist was, and I was pleased to note that the thing that identified them was something I myself pinpointed as an anachronism. It was a nice feature for those who know their history, but not so out there to be completely esoteric. I also liked that the majority of the action wasn't set in the glittering ballrooms of the Ton but in the seamy underbelly of London.

Which because it's set there, you should know that there's going to be a lot of topics that may be triggering for some. Trigger warning for those who need it: cw: period appropriate sexism, cw: attempted rape (not by any of the mains), cw: medical trauma (war wounds), cw: PTSD, cw: prior child abuse, cw: prior child neglect, cw: domestic abuse,. All of these are well handled and appropriate both for the story and the characters. But for those who would be triggered, it is good to know this going in.

All in all, I enjoyed this novel,. and I've already gone and checked out the first book from the library. So because of that, I'm going to give this:

Five Stars

I received an ARC via NetGalley. Thank you to Entangled: Amara for letting me read this.

Welcome to Time Weavers This was a fun story. Katz is one of the best agents that they have and her next mission is to travel back to Regency London. While there she meets her new mark Lord John Byron. But the one thing Katz didn’t plan on was falling in love with him. They had a fun, sexy, intriguing relationship. This was a wonderful take on time travel. Enjoy.

My Thoughts:

A Pocket in Time is an enjoyable romp about Katz Almira, the time-traveling woman from the future who is attempting to stop her future from being torn apart by someone who has gone back in time to mess important events up. She is thrown into Lord John Byron's path by her duties and finds his pull quite strong.

I chose this book because I love well written time travel romance novels, and this sounded like it was going to be a really good one, and I wasn't wrong. I also thought (wrongly) that the cover depicted a man wearing a kilt, but I now realize it was just the many buttoned breeches of the past. Let me start off by saying I was lead to believe that even though this was the second book in a series that it was considered to be a stand alone and I could read it without context. Although this might be true, they do make quite a lot of references to the previous book, and I find myself wishing I had read On Highland Time first. I will certainly be going back to read it at some point in time.

The title is a great play on words as she is a pick pocket, from the future, back in time trying to fit in, but also because the story references the fact that a time traveler who visits the same point in time more than one can cause a pocket in time, which of course foreshadows events that will occur.

The future is very intriguing, and I would like to learn more about it. Once again I assume I might learn more from reading the first book. But there is also something thrown in right at the end that was very confusing, and I am guessing will hopefully lead to a third book? I would like to know more about how the time travel works, the genetic mutations that allow for that time travel, and why it's only women (except Go-Lucky). When exactly is this future? I would like to know more about some of the more interesting characters like old Arthur with his grey/silver eyes who is their researcher and has the ability to "download" information to the agent's mind, kind of like in The Matrix, but without technology?

Katz is strong and sassy, and doesn't take any shit. She has been on her own for a very long time, has learned from the streets, and knows how to survive. She also refuses to love again. A woman named Sadie took her in at some point and helped her survive, but not much else is known about her except that she died. I would like to learn more about this Sadie and her time with Katz. Sadly, Katz was left alone again, with promises to herself never to love again, because love causes pain and makes you vulnerable. She doesn't want to be put in that situation ever again. She feels unlovable.

"No. I don't love anyone. Love means you lose perspective, become vulnerable. I refuse to do that."

Lord John Byron is a wonderful man. He used to be a typical rich white man who only cared for himself, but war has changed him. Not only has his leg been damaged, causing him to limp with pain quite often, but his eyes have been opened to the world around him, and all the suffering. Upon his return from war he takes in several homeless pick pockets and lets them stay in a hidden section of his warehouse. He cares for them as much as they will allow. He takes a percentage of their takes from the streets (because they wouldn't have it any other way) and donates it to care for the soldiers on the front lines. He was my favorite character in the story, as well as a few of the boys.

A few minor things bothered me, like the fact that Katz has only been with the agency for a year and is already the best, and can almost defeat her trainer? That seems hard to believe. Also, sometimes the language would throw me out of the story. I loved the general flow of the book, the story-telling and the dialogue of all the characters, but there were a few scenes when things were getting a bit hot and heavy and a word like "cock" was thrown out, and I just didn't feel like it fit in the specific situation. Better choices could have been made to portray the actions but with the more gentle language of the story overall. I hope that makes sense.

Overall I highly enjoyed this story, and the world it exists in. I will be going back to read book one, and I hope to hear updates of a third book in the near future, however with almost 3 years between books one and two, I am not holding my breath.

The Pros:
Wonderfully full and realistic characters like Lord John Byron.
The world building is very well done, both past and present. I would like to know more about the present/future.

The Cons:
Katz is a little too talented and perfect at what she does to be believable at times.
Some awkward word choices took me out of the story at points.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Katz mission is to journey back time to steal a note and then return. What could go wrong. It turns out everything. Katz is starting to have feelings for Lord. Byron who is her target. I enjoyed the chemistry between Lord Byron and Katz.

I received a copy of this book from Net Galley, as always the opinions are mine. Do you like Bridgerton or Outlander? If so, give this book a read, A Pocket in Time is the second book in the Time Weavers, Inc. series. So you can read the first book and then this one or just read the second one, whatever works for you.

In the Author's Note, Lexi Post writes "A Pocket in Time was inspired by Charles Dickens' novel Oliver Twist." I thought that was a unique place to start this book and as a fan of time-travel and romance, I knew this was a book I would have real fun reading. Katz Almira is the heroine of this story, she is going back to Regency England to steal something that can change the course of history. Among her skill set is pickpocketing so she is perfect for this assignment. She only has two weeks to complete this task or it will be too late to fix the timeline in the present day.

The construct of Katz Almira being in a time and place she doesn't belong in and can't stay in without putting the entire world in peril really raises the stakes on the HEA. How are Jack and Katz going to overcome the literal obstacle of time and space? That is the central mystery of this book and I applaud Lexi Post for making it so hard for these two to get together.

If you like me enjoy characters with hard cynical outsides and gooey marshmallow insides, you'll love Katz and Jack. It's nice to read a story where the male lead is more willing to dive off the deep end and profess his love without the certainty that the female protagonist will return his affections.

4.5 stars to this book. Really great read!

This was such a great read and although I've read quite a few time travel romance books, this one was a bit different! Such a perfect title for this story as well!! Between time travel, pickpockets in Regency London, orphans, danger, edge of your seat suspense, a sexy hero and a bad a$$ heroine, you've got one heck of a story:)

I loved Katz and Jack's characters, they are both so different and yet when attraction turns to love, they both strive to do what is right. Katz knows that whatever she does in the past can change the future so she has to be very careful and with her growing feelings for Jack, she's not sure what to do! She's on a mission and falling in love was never supposed to happen.

I loved the scenes with the young pickpockets, each had such sweet characters and I especially fell in love with little Pip:) All in all, a wonderful story with a few twists and turns that will keep you reading until the end!!

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I almost lost interest in the book. I say almost because after picking it up again the third time to finish what I started, I found myself embroiled in everything that was happening in the book. I enjoyed the characters so much. i could be friends with. This was a very enjoyable read!

A Pocket in Time is a good representation of Regency London. It centres around a group of children who are pickpockets with Jack as their protector.

Katz is sent to London to stop a disruptor from changing history. To be able to accomplish her mission, she has to get close to Jack. Their first encounter is well thought through by Katz. Very cunning. When Jack realises that he has been conned, he sets out to confront her, only to find out that the children have befriended her. As the story develops, they become a family and Katz is now in a dilemma. She never gets close to anyone, but she finds herself caring deeply for the children and more and more attracted to Jack. Since she can’t stay away from her present time for too long, she won't have any choice but to return or else the knock on effects could be disastrous. She has a difficult decision to make.

It's very well portrayed. The solidarity amongst the children is impressive. The romance looks impossible, but where there is a will, there is a way. I like the time travelling theme and it's a fascinating storyline. Great addition to the series.

I received a complimentary eARC from Netgalley and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

A Pocket In Time is a fabulous time travel romance by Lexi Post. Ms. Post has produced a well-written book populated with a spectacular cast that makes this book a delight to read. Katz is a time traveler, going to different times to adjust changes made by disrupters and keep history unaltered. Katz travels to 1815 London, England and bonds with a ragtag group (I love Pip!) of pickpockets and Jack, the man that tries to care for them. Katz and Jack's story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I loved every page of this book and look forward to my next book by Lexi Post. A Pocket In Time is book 2 of the Time Weavers, Inc. Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a romance with a found family twist.
Katz's mission is to make sure a note gets to the war office so that Napoleon is defeated. Jack is the man who is supposed to find the note. Their first meet is cute, she steals his keys and waits for him in his warehouse where he protects a small group of pickpockets.
I think I enjoyed her relationships with the boys, especially the young ones almost more than the romance.
The romance is extremely slow burn, but the power dynamics are a bit different than I've usually seen, she's the aggressor, but won't force him into anything, which in 1815 is unusual. Our heroine has never had a family or a home, our hero has PTSD and a damaged leg, watching them give each other feelings was very sweet.
While I liked book 1 just a bit more this is a solid follow up.

I loved this story! It was extremely hard to put down, in fact. I haven't read Oliver Twist but finally saw the musical this past year so I understood the gist of the story itself. Lord John "Jack" Byron is a nobleman who was injured in the war and now has a rag-tag group of pickpockets that he has taken under his wing. Katz is the best pickpocket at Time Weavers, Inc. who grew up on the streets of modern North America and is sent back to Regency England to intercept a note that needs to get to the right person so Napoleon can be defeated, otherwise chaos prevails and the world is drastically changed. Katz, Jack and all of the gang of young pickpockets were well written and loveable. The warehouse district of London is a tough place to live and everyone appears to have adapted well to their time on the streets.

I have read the first book in this series, Time Weavers, Inc., and loved it, but I definitely think that this is a stand-alone story as stated as it gives enough background to get you involved in the storyline without you thinking you've totally missed the whole premise of the story itself. I would recommend reading book 1 in the Time Weavers, Inc. books (On Highland Time), especially if you like time travel stories, because this series has an interesting idea of time travel and changing of history with the "disruptors" that the TWI agents are up against.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Katz Almira was a TWI agent and had lived most of her life on the streets. TWI was for Time Weavers, Inc. They had to be very careful not to disturb the timeline. She had to go back to be sure Lord John "Jack" Bryon took a note to the war office. If she could not do that then the country would cease to exist. She had two weeks to figure out who the Disruptor was and get the note to the war office.
Jack was a tall, handsome man, who had fought against Napolean and was wounded. He walked with a limp. He loved England and would do anything for it. He also was a Lord, War Hero, and leader of a prosperous pickpocketing gang.
This was a lovely story. The children didn't have parents. He was trying to find homes for them. There was a lot going on, The boys went out to do their thing and he had to go home and she had to leave hopefully, soon with the disruptor. I thought it was well written and I loved the boys being so protective of each other. Giles was supposed to be one of the boys but he beat his girlfriend and then he would disappear. Not a nice guy. The characters are wonderful. The tale was very engaging, also exciting. I highly recommend it for the older crowd.

Katz Almira is the best pickpocket at Time Weaver, Inc. Her mission is to travel back in time (to Regency London) and steal a note that ruined the world. While she's there she meets Lord John “Jack” Byron and a group of pickpockets. The longer she spends time with them the harder it is for her to leave and accomplish her mission.

I could not put this book down! Absolutely loved it. The chemistry between Jack and Katz was amazing. The ending was great and somewhat unexpected.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Oh my gosh how did I miss the first book in this series?!?

This is the second book in this time travel series, and it was amazing! I loved Katz, she is a strong and yet caring heroine, that can hold her own. Jack is amazing, and how they do their fight around the attraction between them...sigh. I will be going back to read the first one, and wait for the next in the series. I am not a big time travel fan in my books, but this is so well done. I felt like I was watching the Timeless tv show, it was that action packed with twist and turns. I loved the history added in, and just how the story flowed.

Katz Almira is sent to Regency England to stop an event that has present-day ramifications. She needs to find a certain Lord John “Jack” Byron who fought against Napoleon, was injured, and currently walks with a limp. She also needs to discover who the Disruptor is; he or she happens to be making changes in the past that effect the present day. Katz was abandoned as a child, and learned how to survive by learning how to steal. As such, she’s an excellent pickpocket. She will need those skills and more in this assignment, as Lord Jack feels responsible for a group of pickpockets who have been living on the streets of London. He provides them with a safe and warm place to stay, and he makes sure they have food to eat. This band of pickpockets immediately takes to Katz, as she accomplishes something that none of them have been able to do. She enjoys her time with these young men, and she really enjoys bantering with Lord Jack. She knows her time in England is limited, so what is the harm in a little fun while she is there?

Lexi Post loves to take a piece of classic literature, turn it around and change things, and create an entirely new story around the basic premise. This story happens to be based on Oliver Twist, as readers may have already surmised. She does an amazing job with this plot device! Her stories always reflect a thorough understanding of the themes present in the original piece of literature; however, Ms. Post puts her own spin on things. It makes for intriguing reading. Her characters in this story are complex at times, yet they yearn for basics like love and acceptance and family. It’s easy to tell who the good characters are and it’s easy to spot the bad ones. Her vivid descriptions and the smells associated with one particular character will be remembered by this reader for quite a while! Nevertheless, this story flows effortlessly, with appropriate tension and some angst thrown in. The ending is nice and somewhat unexpected; as readers aren’t entirely sure there will be a happily-ever-after ending.

“Love is the only reason to be alive. To die with never knowing what it’s like to love and be loved is the cruelest sentence.”

Welcome to Time Weavers, Inc. (TWI), where the agents have the power to travel in time to fix ripples caused by the Disruptors.

Katz Almira grew up on the streets and is now using her street smarts to be one of the best agents TWI employs…one of the best agents to bend the rules just a wee bit to make sure the job gets done. Her newest mission is to travel back to Regency London and intercept a note that was placed in the wrong hands causing a disruption to the time line in the future. Posing as a fellow pickpocket, Katz befriends a group of lost boys to get in good with their benefactor Lord John Byron. But the one thing Katz didn’t plan on was falling in love with her mark. With the future of the world at stake, Katz must decide if creating a pocket in time is worth saving her love…

LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT! Oh, did I mention I LOVED IT! Regency romances are a fav, and add the time travel “Quantum Leap” scenario, and this chick is one happy reader! Katz is as strong a heroine you could ask for that falls for a hero that manages to melt the ice she’s built around her heart. Impossible to put down and one of my fav reads of the year!

While this is the second in the Time Weavers, Inc. series, the author has written it to be stand alone. Loved and highly recommend!!

Here’s a cheat sheet of the Rules for Time Weavers, Inc., (TWI) Agents:

Rule One: Don’t change history; only change it back.
Rule Two: Never travel back to a period and place already visited.
Rule Three: Travel no more than once a day.
Rule Four: Do not hint at anything in the future.
Rule Five: Do not make friends.

A Pocket in Time is the second book in Post’s Time Weaver series and it is even better than the first. Post does an awesome job of world-building and creating a great read full of fascinating, delightful characters as well as providing vivid details and characterizations that help to bring the story to life. The ragtag band of pickpockets will charm you while the sizzling chemistry and interactions between Katz and Lord John Byron will keep you on your toes. I loved all the characters and storyline and I am definitely looking forward to the next book!

I'm doing Booklist Queen's Reading Challenge this year and I chose this book for the "Time Travel Novel" category. A Pocket In Time is a sexy, time-travel romance novel. Lexi Post, did fantastic world building in this novel. This is the second book in the series but it works great as a standalone novel as well.. The heroine, Katz Almira, is an agent for Time Weavers, Inc. and the hero Lord John Byron is sexy, smart, and sensitive. I loved both lead characters. The supporting characters were strong as well. I'm so glad I picked this book up!
