High Impact Life is not a self-help book, it's more of a your life is important and here are some reminders of why that is book.

Kelli Masters has spent the last few decades making a place for herself in a male-dominated industry. She's a sports agent, helping young athletes navigate the hiring process and finding the best fit for their skills amongst all the professional teams. But in reality, she helps atheletes become the people that they've always desired to be for their entire lives, not just the few years they play professional football. And she's taken some of the insights and encouragements and questions that she walks through with her clients and offered them to you in this book. It's encouraging, thought provoking, and ultimately, up to you whether or not this is a book worth reading.

Masters shares her personal stories of becoming a sports agent as well as stories of her clients, some good, some difficult. Masters sums up the hope of this book in this line "Nothing you go through-not even your own self-sabotage, missteps, and mistakes-will go to waste. When you trust God, everything is redeemable and every experience will move you one step closer to your calling."

And what is your calling? To use your special gifts, quirks, yourself to help serve others.

I received a digital copy of this book for purpose of review from NetGalley, I'm never required to share a positive review but always thankful when I can.

Kelli Masters has many different identities, but most have heard of her because she became the first female sports agent to represent a top-5 pick in the NFL Draft (Gerald McCoy, third overall). Masters is very open about her faith and how it plays an essential role in everything in her life. Additionally, Tyndale is well-known for being a publisher of Christian titles, so I wasn’t at all surprised at how she incorporated faith into the meat of the book (although some reviewers did seem surprised). I also appreciated that Masters stated that regardless of the reader’s faith, she hopes to inspire them. As someone who follows a different spiritual path, I can say she definitely did inspire me.

One of the things that shines through in this book is the genuine nature of Masters. She admits that faith guides every one of her decisions. She admits that becoming a sports agent was a difficult road because of financial sacrifices, because of sacrifices of time, and because of entering a male-dominated world. However, she feels that being an agent is more rewarding for her than her legal work, that being an agent is her calling. In a field filled with slick salesmen offering the world on a platter, it’s refreshing to hear the perspective of Masters who wants her clients to think about life after football—many of them haven’t and, as she points out, many of them will spend the majority of their careers after football.

I really appreciate her perspective. She lays out sound advice—noting the road to finding a calling requires putting in a lot of hard work and careful discernment. But when one finds what they have been called to do, it no longer feels like work. She deciphers the difference as ‘get to’ instead of ‘have to,’ and I think that is a good one to enunciate the difference.

All in all, I most enjoyed her perspective as a woman in a male-dominated field. What she has done took courage and tenacity, but it is easy to see she is a strong, tough woman, and we need more women like that sharing their stories. I also appreciated the fact that she admitted to being a natural introvert in a field that requires extensive networking and social presence—in short, a field much better suited to extroverts. Often, the challenges faced by introverts aren’t explored, so I appreciated that she was willing to share this aspect. Masters is a skilled storyteller but also a skilled counselor, too. An excellent book for anyone seeking greater direction in their life.

I thought this book was going to focus more on Kelli Masters' experience as a female sports agent, and it seemed to be more about how faith drives her work. Although this was unexpected, the book was well written, seamlessly combining her experience as a female sports agent with her faith journey and biblical stories. Each chapter ends with questions for the reader to ponder as they find their calling and pursue their life goals.

With at least half of each chapter devoted to her faith or literal Bible stories, I think this book has a niche audience - but that's okay! As a Christian who is trying to figure out what I want to do in life, it actually found me at the right time. Overall, I recommend this book.

This is a really well written book. Everyone loves a good underdog story - even more so when it's a woman shattering a glass ceiling. The author's anecdotes and stories were great, but I felt myself wanting more. I am a believer, so always love when God is wrapped in to something but I wasn't prepared for how prominent a role belief would play in this book. Perhaps the description could more adequately include this.
Great book, but over I just wanted more.....and less.

I’ll preface my review by saying that I don’t watch football much. It’s not that I’m not a fan, but football just doesn’t hold my attention. However, this book definitely held my attention. I love how the author shared her story, her mistakes, struggles, and learning experiences. I also love how she included biblical stories to help inspire and teach her audience. However, if you don’t like the biblical aspect of the book, she makes it easy to skip (I didn’t want to, but you don’t have to be a Christian to enjoy this book, and neither do you have to be a sports fan). Each chapter ends with pertinent questions you can journal or ask yourself when it comes to going after your big dreams and goals. The author is a great writer and has a lot of inspiration and motivation, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
